Debelli 05-26-2003, 07:49 AM GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!
Will post my usual morning post sometime later, but wanted to make sure I got our
MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY done early in the morning, so here's my contribution for MM, there's 2 of them to read today:

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
Although life is far from perfect, it is completely abundant and very much worth every moment of living. Yes, there are always things that could be improved, and that is a blessing in itself. For it means that you are alive and able to make things happen. It means that there is always the option of reaching ever higher.
There is always room for improvement, and that means there is always room to grow. Weaknesses can be transformed into strengths, and liabilities can be changed into assets.
Where there is room for improvement, there are also the seeds of opportunity and accomplishment. Businesses, careers and entire industries are built on the need and desire for continuing, expanding improvement.
When there is something that needs to be improved, learn to see it not as a deficiency. See it for what it is, which is a magnificent opportunity. If there is room for improvement, there is the real possibility of greatness.

HEALTHY BALANCE
If you've been putting forth effort for a while, take a rest. When you've been resting for a while, get up and get going again. Life is a cycle of effort and rest. Everywhere you look in nature, you can clearly see how a healthy balance between effort and rest is essential to all living things.
By working ever harder and ever longer, you eventually reach a point of diminishing return. Sooner or later, you get to the place where, in order to continue moving forward, you must first stop for a while.
The same kind of situation occurs when you go too far in the other direction. When you spend a long period never making any effort, it ceases to become relaxing or pleasurable and simply becomes unbearably monotonous.
Give all you have to the effort, and then give it a rest for a while. Both effort and rest will serve to energize you, as long as you keep them in balance. Pay heed to the cycle that pervades all of life, and life will work great for you.

Debelli 05-26-2003, 07:56 AM Good Monday Morning Everyone:wave:
Yes, I'm alive, TRANQUIL hasn't kidnapped me but we've been quite busy and having a nice time:D She is leaving today, this afternoon:( I've so enjoyed this time with her and once again find my wishing she lived closer and I do with everyone.
I'm sorry I wasn't on the board much last week and not on really since she arrived. Not only have we been running but she can now really understand when I complain on the board about having to run the kids all over the place non-stop in the car, she's seen it just about every day!
ZACH is a cutie and a good kid and it's been a pleasure to get to meet him. I'm sure my kids think the same-ELI, you'd think these two were lifelong friends, they were sitting together in the rear of the van yesterday conspiring:s:
Not sure what our plans for the day, or at least for the part of it that she'll be here are going to be. It's still very early and I'm going to hop back in bed to see if I can possibly get a little more shut eye.
MICHAEL and LAUREN both have homework so I'm not sure if I'll be able to get on the board later today or not, but come tomorrow, the house is back to being all mine, kids are back to school:D Will definitely get in a post by then, if not before. I'll try to skim the boards from last week if I have the time.
Have absolutely missed you guys, you have no idea!!!!:)

Chinese Jews
Sid and Al, both Jews, were dining in a Chinese restaurant.
During their conversation Sid asked Al. "Are there any Jews in China ?"
"I don't know" replied Al. "Why don't we ask our Chinese waiter?"
When the waiter came by, Al asked him, "Are there Chinese Jews ?"
The waiter said : "I don't know sir, let me ask" and went into the kitchen. He returned in a few minutes later and said, "No sir. No, Chinese Jews."
"Are you sure?" Al asked.
"I check again, sir", replied the waiter and went back to the kitchen.
While he was gone, Sid said to Al : "I cannot believe there are no Jews in China, Our people are scattered everywhere."
At this point the waiter returned : "Sir, no Chinese Jews."
"Are you really sure, man ?" Al asked again. "I cannot believe there are no Chinese Jews."
Exasperated, the waiter frantically said : "Sir, I ask everyone ! "We have Apple Jews, Orange Jews, Tomato Jews and Grape Jews. But no one hear of Chinese
Jews!"
Zanne 05-26-2003, 08:16 AM Hi Everyone
Wow! I'm first on the new board! It's like writing on the first page of a new notebook! Ok, Deb beat me! That's ok!
I'm still here, even tho I haven't popped in too much to the board.
I am happy to report that I have done my Power 90 workout for 5 days in a row now! I can't remember the last time I exercised 5 days in a week (or even in a month!), let alone 5 days in a row. I would have done more, but I didn't get the DVDs till Tuesday and started Wednesday.
My water intake has been excellent! And my eating has been good. I still have to make sure I get in enough fruits and veggies. I haven't been eating after dinner.
Why is it that I forget how good I feel when I eat properly and exercise???:dizzy: Oh well, at least I'm doing it now!
I had DH take "before" pics. I took my measurements and weight on day one. Now I've put away the scale until day 30. That's right, scale is outta sight!
We've been a little busy. DS started soccer and we've been signing papers for our investment house. We actually got an offer for MORE than asking price! and then the buyers decided they wanted the closing date moved up! So we're happy about that.
DEB/TRANQUIL--Glad you two are having such a good time together.
Ok, gotta go get the munchkin ready for school.
I wish all my American SB buddies a wonderful Memorial Day!
Jenn in MN 05-26-2003, 09:03 AM So, after layoffs, meeting our new boss, etc... I had a hectic week. Stayed OP all week, too. I was so proud of myself.
THEN... realized my TOM was late. Figured it was stress. Well, it wasn't. I'm pregnant again!!!  :dizzy: :dizzy: :spin: :fr:
So I'm thrilled, scared, nervous - you name it! I feel good, if a little tired. I think this WOE is good for me and the baby, so I plan to follow SB! the whole time. Not to lose weight, now, of course. But I don't need or want to stuff myself with empty carbs.
I have my first OB appt. on 6/24 to ensure everything's going well. Of course, it's very early days yet, and I obviously am concerned about having another miscarriage, but I am trying to relax and leave it in God's hands.
Thanks for listening - we aren't telling anyone until after my 12-week exam this time so you guys are the first to know! ;)
ttfn,
Jenn
ldblond 05-26-2003, 11:46 AM Today's thought is:
To live in dialogue with another is to live twice. Joys are doubled by
exchange and burdens are cut in half.
-- Wishart
We live in one another's company for a reason. The talents any one of
us is gifted with are most pleasurable when used to benefit many. And
each of us is talented in ways unique and yet burdensome if not shared.
Our personal growth and development are dependent in part on the
contributions made by those we're in company with. We live better
because of others' presence and talented contributions to situations
affecting us all. Likewise, others are equally benefited by our positive
involvement in their lives.
We need one another to diffuse the pain and sorrow in our lives.
Sharing lessens the weight on a single pair of shoulders. Sharing also
reminds us that none of us is burdened in ways unfamiliar to others.
Laughing together multiplies our appreciation of someone else's
involvement in our lives. Every aspect of life promises more meaning
when shared openly with another. We could even say that no event is
really integrated into a life if experienced in isolation.
I'll find meaning today in the company of others.

Grin + Share it 05-26-2003, 12:58 PM Jenn...congratulations!!!:bravo: :cp: :bravo: :cb: How wonderful to have a child on the way. I can't even imagine how you feel. Nothing blesses the world more than a new babe...Lori
The Quilter 05-26-2003, 06:00 PM Monday Evening (already????)
Hello, everyone. Well, I fizzled out last week on my getting on the board, and for that I truly apologize. We just got so busy, that I couldn't keep up. Not a very good excuse, but I'll try better this week.
My eating during the week last week was awesome! By the weekend, I was wavering, but will just keep trying my best every day.
DEB----Glad to hear you and TRANQ are having a swell time. How much fun to spend a long weekend together. You guys should tape record some of your talks that might be good for the rest of us. Ha! TRANQ has been doing so well that she doesn't have to spend time in the dungeon. So at least she didn't have that hanging over her head. LOL.
JENN---What great news you have for us today!!! Congrats!!! Take it easy. I'll be praying for you and the little one. You are right to try and not stress and leave it in God's hands.
LD----loved the meditation you shared. Very, very wonderful. I think I'll have to pass that one on to some of my good friends.
ZANNE---Way to go on your Power 90 regime! You are doing so EXCELLENT!!!!! You are right, the exercise really does make us feel better. Next time I get the urge to blow off a day, I'll remember what you said.
Speaking of exercise, I didn't do the treadmill all weekend, but I've done more yard work that imaginable. So I know I've burned off a few calories. Friday and Saturday I worked on my annuals, putting marigolds into my perennial border. And also got my dirt ready for the annuals on the deck. It takes me a long while to "design" where everything is going to look it's best. This year I did something new. I picked two colors (red and white) for all my annuals. And I have to say, the way I have it now looks GREAT! Then today we went and got mulch. I wanted to try something new. Had heard that pine straw makes excellent mulch and it's much lighter than those huge bags of mulch. So we went and bought 7 bales of it and spred it. We also had to weed the front beds before putting the mulch down. Paul decided it was time to clean out the gutters. So he got up there and did that. Not his favorite job because of the heights factor. Anyways, we finished that and are really tired. I just showered and wanted to get on here quick to report that I haven't fallen away.
I hope you all got to enjoy a long weekend. And are ready to tackle another week of healthy living.
Take care.
Kim
heartmom 05-26-2003, 06:54 PM Jenn- That's great! Congratulations!:bravo: :cp: :cb:
Okay, I made it through day 1 without cheating although, I had a huge craving for ice cream. It wouldn't go away so I ended up eating 4, yes I said 4, NSA yogurts! But I did exercise and drank well over a gallon of water so the scale is back in the 192-193 range. I've been legal today as well although, I've ate too many starchy carbs. I had oatmeal for breakfast(1 servings counts as 2 starches) and I had a tuna fish salad sandwich for lunch. But I wonder if that should only count as 1 starch since I used the Nature's Own reduced carb wheat bread?? Anyway, tonight I'm cooking chicken breasts and green beans and baby lima beans. There goes another starch or 2 with the beans. Oh,well. At least I'm eating alot healthier than last week and exercising(today was my 3rd day in a row on the exercise!) and getting in 2 servings of fruit daily. So what's our weekly challenge? Did I skim over it?
Arcayne 05-26-2003, 07:22 PM JENN: Congratulations!!!! Babies are wonderful things.. and I'm thankful to both my sisters for having them so I can spoil them!! :cb:
HELP!!! I want to eat EVERYTHING!! I bought SF jello pudding, and the ingredients to make ww oatmeal cookies.. and now I don't dare because i want them so BAD!! :yikes:
Any of you ever get this urge, to just chuck it all and hoover up all the groceries in sight? I'm motivated, I want to fly out to Michigan in late July and my butt needs to fit in the seat. I'm motivated....but I may need to ...exercise. I could exercise, and then I wouldn't want to spoil all that effort. AND I'm chewing my minty gum. But I WANT chocolate!! :dizzy:
CountryMom4Him 05-26-2003, 08:23 PM I am not eating right...not exercising enough...but having a really good time with family and friends. I really need to get back on track.
Congratulations Jenn!!!
Love,
Crystle
I'm proud to say that I have lost 5 lbs since last Sunday, that I have been 100% OP everyday since then & that I even got exercise in twice this week as well as drank my 64 oz most everyday. My clothes is starting to fit better again. From my weight commander I see that I'm still 6 lbs heavier today than I was a year ago, & 10 lbs above my lowest weight.
I went to a church function yesterday afternoon & they had finger foods. I ate my grapefruit before I got there, turned down everything including cake! All I had was some celery sticks with a little spinach dip. Not much at that. I came home & had a fourth of a canteloupe for supper. I have really toned down my eating alot this week.
Debbie, good to see your post. Thought maybe you had Tranquil tied up in the dugeon, or worse yet, that Eli had YOU in the dungeon! Glad to hear that you & Tranquil had a good week end together. Sure do miss you on the board though! Oh, the Chinese Jews!
Zanne, I am so very proud of you for sticking with the Power program. 5 days is great. I know you will do well with this. Keep up the great work.
Jenn, :cp:  so very happy for you. Praying that all will be well for you & baby. SB IS good for you both!
ldblond, what a great Thought for the day! Thanks. They were words that I really needed to hear today.
Grin + Share it, you're right, Babies are blessings! Can't wait for our grandchild to be born in September. I miss having a baby to spoil. LOL
Kim, our best is all we can expect of each other, & if we've done our best, that that is sufficent. Sounds like you've been really getting into that yard work. Dh was off today & finally got around to chopping down a tree that had been damaged by the hurricane. I got home to find logs all over the yard. He got carried away with the chain saw
Heartmom, sounds like you're really trying hard to get back OP. Keep up the good work. 3 days in a row of exercise is fabulous!
Arcayne, yes, I'm afraid sometimes the urge to eat everything in sight is over whelmingly strong. I'm thankful that my mindset this week has been stronger than the urges :) Try to avoid the temptations. I know, easier to say than do. But give it your best!
Serene, great to talk with you yesterday! Can't wait for the week end to get here to see you!
Well it's been a long day & tomorrow will be longer, so I'm turning in early tonight. See ya!
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 05-26-2003, 08:59 PM You would think that after 3 days of doing NOTHING, that I would feel better! :nono: Kate has almost used a whole jar of BLUE ICE to keep me comfortable...I've watched the food channel
all day. They had a marathon of food festivals...really enjoyed them.
I'm climbing up in the four poster and signing off for tonight..
CONGRATS JENN....
BOB
Ellen 05-26-2003, 10:22 PM Fillise just left. We had a wonderful time...at least I did..I think she did too! We went to the Dekalb Farmer's Market, Harry's, and Publix. We both spent more $$ than we wanted to, but got some great stuff! I hope she comes back again soon. We had a blast sitting around talking.
Here is a picture Tom took of the two of us just before she left. It was getting dark, so you can't see the pool behind us. We should have gotten the pitures this afternoon when we were out in the sunshine, enjoying the pool. Yes, it was COLD. I was so proud of Fillise, though. She got it, even though she really did not want to. Once you get in, its not so bad!
Anyway, I am beat, and have some things to do before bed time. I will check in tomorrow and try and address everyone individually then!
Sweet dreams!
JENN: Congratulations! What exciting news!
Fillise is on the left, Monet on the right.
Talitha 05-26-2003, 11:36 PM I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend. We got back from camping all weekend, and I feel great!! I got some sun, and hiked a few miles, but mostly we just relaxed and hung out. Travis is in a band, se we went with the other bandmembers and their wives. It was great, except that I ate some smores and drank 2 cokes, because we ran out of water. Ahhhh...
I also planted some flowers in the front flower beds, and that was fun. I dug out 2 old azalea bushes that were absolutely pathetic, and replaced them with purple grass and hostas. It really opened up the area. I planted a bunch over other stuff, too
Jenn-congratulation!!! I am so happy for you! SO this is nomber 3?
sheanne 05-27-2003, 12:27 AM Hi,
Sounds like everyone had a marvelous weekend. I just took it easy. Mowed the lawn today. Did some studying. That's about it. Tomorrow I'm up and out early. I have to get my second series of Hepatitis shots. Then I think I'll come back home and take a nap before I have to go to class.
Have a great day tomorrow.
Sheanne
ldblond 05-27-2003, 12:36 AM It's been a tough day, but I've been resting and on meds, so I thought I catch up with you all. Eating hasn't been 100% this weekend, so I've been aim at takling it one meal at a time. Temptations will be dramatically decreased, now that the weekend is over and I will be eating from my kitchen. It's when we go out to the restaurants that it's hard to refrain.
Deb: Glad to have you back with us. It sounds like you ladies had a wonderful time!
Zanne: Sounds like the Power 90 system really seems to be working for you. I'm so glad. Is your DH still continuing to do it with you?
Jenn: Congratulations on your pregnancy!
HeartMom: Don't beat yourself up for healthy carbs. It's just my opinion, but it seems to take about 2 weeks for me to get the carb reduction going, certainly eating on plan is my 1st goal.
Arcayne: Hang in there! We all get the urge to eat everything in site from time to time. Just keep chewing that gum and reminding yourself exactly why you're doing this. I want to lose weight because.....
Melf: Way to go! I'm going to have to re-order my Weight Commander because I can't find my old files :( It certainly seems to help me watch for the days I seem to be more challenged.
BOB: I realize my condition is not the same as yours, but as they are both nerve related I thought I would share this thought: with RSD one of the worst things I can do is use cold therapy, it actually causes the RSD to worsen. Does heat help?
To everyone else, a big hello. Has anyone heard from Sef?
Rosalie 05-27-2003, 12:45 AM Hi Everyone
My eating has been good this week but still only 6 days 100% op - I just can't make it the whole seven days. Wasn't so good on the water this past week either so will have to concentrate on that more this week. Even though I haven't been down any pounds this week my clothes are feeling a little loser and I have worn a couple of things that had been a little too snug before.
Deb - I liked your MM's to-day, particularly the one on Healthy Balance. I think that can be applied to this woe. Even though this needs to be a life-long eating plan we need to sometimes relax a little from the strict adherence to the plan. I don't mean to go off plan completely and gorge but we do need a little relaxation at times and be able to have something off plan without feeling guilty.
Deb/Tranquil - Glad you had a good time together.
Zanne - WTG on the five day workout. I know what you mean about forgetting about how you feel better when eating properly.
Jenn in MN - Congrats on your good news. Here's hoping everything goes well for you.
Kim - Sounds like you had an energetic weekend. I find gardening to be much harder work than exercising.
Heartmom - Good for you getting through the day op. I wouldn't worry too much about the beans. The green beans are quite low carb and the lima beans, even though they have more carbs, have a gi of only 32 and a Glycemic LOAD of only 5.4 according to the Aussie GI Database. (I believe any GL below 10 is considered low).
Monet/Fillise - Sounds like you had some fun time together. That's a nice pic of you both.
Arcayne - Hope you have gotten over that craving. Think what you would like most - the :nono: foods or to lose the weight so that you could do the things that you want to do. Just think of that trip to Michigan next time you want those goodies. Don't think you are alone though - we all get those urges to eat the junk food or to just over stuff on the legal goodies.
Melf - WTG - that's great that you are down 5 pounds and congratulations on staying op all week and for exercising too. :jig:
BOB - Hope this will be a good week for you and you will get some answers when you see the doctor.
Nite all.
Marie.
The Quilter 05-27-2003, 08:07 AM Quick Tuesday Morning
LDBLOND---I heard from SEF a little over a week ago. I had sent her some embroidery floss and she emailed a thanks. Said she'd been busy and had gone to NO and fallen. She made it sound like it was nothing major, but I'm starting to worry that perhaps it was more than that. I'll try to email her today. Thanks for the reminder.
Everybody have a great day. Let's be 100% today. Don't give the external sitiuations all your power. Do what you truly want and that is to eat right and get healthy.
Kim
Solly 05-27-2003, 10:09 AM Good Tuesday Morning.
I feel like an alcholic trying to get to an AA meeting. Horrible eating for the last 3 days and way too much drinking. So many graduation parties and too much food calling my name. I could not wait for today to get here. I am thankful I know where to come back to. I don't think I will ever go off plan again. I feel miserable. I know that forever won't hold, but I hold, but at elast for a long while. Didn't get ont he scale today, but will face the music tomorrow. Plus I feel like I need to spend a couple of hours in the bathroom if you know what I mean.
Hope everyone had a great long weekend and we are ready to start this week with one day already behind us.
A good friend ws in a bad car accident over the weekend. Luckily he will be ok after a long period of recuperating. My mamogram report came back with a "recall" notice. I knew it would. Just had that feeling that's why I waited until after the wedding to have it done. Not going to worry about it. What will be will be. Can't change it. So we didn't have a lot of good news this weekend.
Zanne, Wow you are doing great in all areas. Keep up the good work.
Deb, welcome back. Yes we missed you. Glad you and Tranquil had such a good time. Really liked the MM about giving it a rest. But I really need to get back at it.
Jenn, congrats on the great news. I will keep you in m prayers that all goes well this time.
Idblond, thanks for the MM. So very true.
Kim, we have missed you. Yard work can really wear you out. I ususally just watch DH do it. I can be great exercise.
Heartmom, Sounds like you are back on track. Hang in there.
Arcayne, Exercise can be good. It will make you feel better and help you lose quicker.
Country, I'm riht there with you. Let's get back on track together.
Melf, 5 lbs is awesome. You are doing great. That 6 lbs willb e gone soon at this rate.
Bob, I can't beleive you aren't any better. You need to start complaining loudly to that Dr.
Monet, glad youand Susan had such a good time. Thanks for the pic. They are lovely.
Talitha, glad you had such a relaxing weekend.
Sheanne, glad you had a nice weekend too.
Idblond, hope you are feeling better today and got your rest.
Rosalie, loose clothes is a great sign. Much better than that scale. Keep up the good work. 7 days will happen. Just keep trying.
Have a great day. So glad to be back on here.
Jackie
jane8760 05-27-2003, 10:16 AM Good morning everyone.
This weekend in our Sunday paper there was a two page spread on Montignac so I read it thinking I would get some great information but instead much to my surprise he is now touting diet pills. The article went on and on about his diet plan (which was the same as he usually speaks of) then at the end there it was....for 3 easy payments of 29.95 you can order his pills to help in weight loss......I found this very upsetting. I know you all speak of him with such high regard but now to me he is just another diet pill pushers. It makes me wonder about this whole WOE. I know it shouldn't but I can't help but feel this way.
My understanding of the Sugar Busters plan is that it is based on the findings of Montignac. If that is truely the case then I am really dissapointed.
I don't know if any of you already knew about this article or not. I am sorry if my comments about it offend anyone.
I will check in later with you all....I took Friday off from work so my desk is piled high with calls I need to make.
Jenn in MN 05-27-2003, 11:39 AM Hi everyone, thanks for the well-wishes. I'm still a little worried, but trying to take it one day at a time. :)
I made this wonderful batch of chicken wings last night, coated in Parmesan cheese, parsley, oregano, paprika, and a little salt & pepper. Yum! We're using them for lunches this week.
Also cooked up a few extra plain ones to coat with Franks' Red Hot sauce & butter. Also YUM!
Tonight is hamburgers & broccoli (can you tell those days my stepson is with us? ), tomorrow is zucchini lasagna, and Thursday is chicken wings/nuggets and green beans.
I haven't been very hungry - is that a sign of impending morning sickness?
Kim - sounds to me like you got plenty of exercise without the treadmill!
Heartmom - YAY on the exercise! Do you have Blue Bunny NSA ice cream out your way? It works for my cravings, if I'm careful to have only 1 serving.
Arcayne - I know what you mean. Try a little bit of SF pudding - that tends to help me when I get those chocolate cravings!
Crystle - hang in there!
Melf - congrats on the 5 lbs!!!
BOB - sorry you're still hurting. :(
Monet & Fillise - nice picture... thanks for sharing!
Talitha - this is my first baby (I had a miscarriage in Feb.). I have a 9-year old stepson, and an almost 1 year old puppy, and my DH acts like a child sometimes. Does that count??? :D
Sheanne - Shots??? :o Ouch! Good luck.
ldblond - One meal at a time is good. Whatever works for you! I can relate to the restaurants. That dessert menu gets me every time. :)
Marie - 6 days out of 7 is a wonderful accomplishment!
Jack-K - sorry about all the bad news this weekend. Hang in there.
Jane - I don't think the fact that he's selling diet pills invalidates the previous work or the premise of SB! I think he's just trying to make some $$ on those that want quick, easy results. Heck, don't we all want to slim down fast? The truth is SB works, and is a safe, healthy way to lose weight and eat right. Look at Deb, or Jack-K, or any number of others here... :D
ttfn,
Jenn
CountryMom4Him 05-27-2003, 11:46 AM Jessie and I just got in from a walk. It was nice to get outside. For some reason its easier to walk farther in the same amount of time. So we were able to get in about 2 miles in 30 minutes. My house is at the top of a hill so we took a shorter route and walked the hill three times.
Jack-K...praying that even though you have a recall it's nothing serious. I'm glad you enjoyed the parties and are ready to get back on track. It's good sometimes to take a break. Of course I say this because I had a nice glass of Kalua and milk last night. :)
Jane...I don't know about this fella because I got on this plan from the Sugar Buster book. As for the plan working, I've had great results. Not only in weight but with swelling and indigestion being gone now. Sometimes people just get greedy. He took a good thing and has just taken it too far probably.
Howdy Kim! Love you little saying about not letting external things taking our power....it's so easy to do.
Rosalie...6 days is GREAT! You'll hit that 7 day mark.
Talitha....sounds like a fun weekend. We are going camping in Sept. when bow season opens. It's still so hot and muggy here then. We tried camping in winter but were not prepared and froze our little tushies..*smile* Live and learn.
Monet...thanks for sharing the picture. You both look marvelous and so relaxed. I love putting a face with a name.
Gotta scoot and feed the youngins...we are a tad behind this morning. Hope everyone has a SUPER day!!
Love,
Crystle
Ellen 05-27-2003, 12:57 PM It feels like Monday....I have to keep telling myself its Tuesday!
This morning had a few surprises. I was sitting at the computer checking email, when I heard what sounded like someone walking up the stairs. I thought I was home alone and was a bit edgy about it. A few seconds later, a big, dark, handsome, tall man walked into my bedroom. Thankfully, it was my son. He had been sleeping downstairs and I did not know he was here. His roommate often drops him off on her way to work at 4am, then he sleeps here for a few hours and has me drop him off at work. He needs to get his car fixed.... anyway, I drove him to work, and when I came home, and opened the garage door, it was not looking very good. We have been researching replacements. Well, it fell totally apart! I called and ordered the new doors, but they are telling me it may be two weeks before they can install them. :yikes: I called my son in law and he is supposed to come over and help me get the door at least closed. I will probably have to leave my car on the driveway for a few days. What a bummer!
JACK: I hope your recall is nothing. Nothing like a binge to get us back on the straight and narrow! I always feel lousy when I eat things I shouldn't. And I am so happy that the Blue Bunny ice cream does a number on my lower GI track.... :)
JENN: I don't remember losing my appetite when I was expecting. I do remember being very tired, and the morning sickness started almost exactly at six weeks. I sure hope you don't do like I did, and stay sick for the rest of the nine months! I was always eating something to try and settle my stomach. It never worked!
COUNTRY: Its good to see you back! Are you done with homeschooling for the summer yet, or do you all do school year round? Here, you have to keep records of attendance, which I always thought was kind of silly, but I did it to comply with the law...
JANE: I agree with Country... Montignac may have gotten greedy, but it does not change the fact that the program does work that way he said it would. He is French, and may just be trying to make some $$ off gullible Americans. You know people are so desperate to lose weight with no effort they will try anything. I loved the one pill they were advertising with the warning that you should be careful not to lose too fast, or too much! I bet they made a bundle on those!
HEART: That is great you are back down to your low. Time to forge ahead into new territory! You can do it!
QUILTER: Hey, when are you taking your turn at SpaMonet? Hopefully, Fillise will give it a good rating.... :) Are you treadmilling? I have not been on for over a week! I need you to come down here and kick my butt for me!
BOB: We may head down to Sarasota or Naples for vacation this year. Tom and Laura want to surf, and have heard you can surf near Venice. I think they are nuts wanting to spend time in Florida in June or July, but at least whereever we stay will be air conditioned.... I will let you know for sure once the plans are finalized. Do you think you could spare some time to meet? Susan mentioned a surfing school in Wilmington, so once they get all the info, they are supposed to make a decision. I voted for Maine, but no one wanted to listen to me.....
ROSALIE: Hey, six days OP is good! It helps to set the habits. Glad to hear you are seeing some results in how your clothes fit.
MELF: Congrats on the five pounds! You are going to back down to your low in no time!
LDBLOND: I know what you mean about eating out! Its just so hard to resist, and easy to justify when you are paying money for something. Hope you are feeling better.
I will be back later! Have a great day everyone!
Fillise 05-27-2003, 01:09 PM Is it Tuesday already?
I got back from Spa Monet about 10:00 last night and I must say it was a delightful trip. Monet and her hubby (she is married to--and I am NOT kidding--Mr. Rogers) are wonderful! I felt so welcome and enjoyed spending time with them so much. The water in the pool may have been cold, but the warm atmosphere more than made up for it (and Monet was right, the water was very cold at first, but felt great once my extremities went numb  ). As you all have guessed--Monet is a great cook. last night she made chicken satay for dinner that was out of this world!
Yesterday morning we went to the Dekalb Farmer's market where we stocked up on good SB legal food. Let's just say I'm not going to run out of cheese for a VERY long time! I also picked up some Ak-Mak crackers and some spelt chips (haven't tasted them, will let you know when I do). Then we zipped over to Harry's Market for 5 bottles of Agave (there were 7 on the shelf, but two women were looking at it and we graciously "let" them have a bottle after Monet conviced them that it was good stuff, and then I let Monet buy a bottle). But it was 2.59 a bottle--and I paid $5.00 a bottle in St. Pete in March, so you better believe I was going to stock up! I also got some of the "grind your own" Wheat Montana Monet is always raving about. Well, her homemade bread was certainly wonderful. So when I got home last night I put some in the bread machine and set the timer so I would have some warm bread when I got up this morning. The texture is much better than the regular WW flour. I had some toast with SF apple butter (Debalb market) for breakfast this am! YUM!
All of which is to say that getting all that great OP food has inspired me to be good!
Then we headed back to the house where we lounged by the pool. Monet's roses are magnificant! I highly recommend a trip to Spa Monet for anyone passing through Atlanta!
Deb--I remember someone used to post on this board by the name of Deb.:s: It sounds like you and Tranquil had a good time this weekend too!
Crystle--It sounds like you have been having a good time! Haven't we all!
JenninMN--CONGRATULATIONS! I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Babies are such a blessing! SB should be an excellent WOE for pregnancy!
Jane--Hang in there--even though Mont. is pushing pills, that doesn't mean that the principles of SB eating are unsound. Once you have followed this WOE for several weeks you feel so good that you know your body is better is better off.
Jackie--Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers about your "recall." Been through that a couple of times myself. Let us know. In the meantime--there's a bunch of us getting back to the program so we'll all ride that wagon together!
Kim--Thanks for the inspiration!
Marie--you can make that 7th day--I know you can!
Ld--You can hope back on the wagon with us!
BOB--Monet was very suspicious of all the notes I was taking. I hope you get news from the MRI ASAP!
Monet--Thanks for a wonderful weekend!
Got to get to work!
Have a great Op day everyone!
Fillise 05-27-2003, 01:12 PM Monet--We were posting at the same time! Sorry to hear about the garage door. That stuff always happens when you REALLY dont' want it too! If you head to Sarasota, you need to make BOB take you to the restaurant we went to--it was yummy!
Susan
CountryMom4Him 05-27-2003, 01:56 PM We home school year round but we follow a different schedule in the summer. We've been on half days all of May but we are thinking of doing school 3 days a week and taking 4 off. That way they will have more of a vacation this year. Probably Mon., Wed, and Fri. Except for spelling..they will have it five days a week. We'll see...if they can't stay focused we will go back to five half days.
Love,
Crystle
jane8760 05-27-2003, 02:14 PM I forgot to tell you............my local Bread & Circus (Whole Foods market) stopped stocking Agave because of an ingredient in it. Has anyone heard anything about this?
What are the ingredients?
Grin + Share it 05-27-2003, 03:19 PM Hi everyone...I'm off to a cancer conference today and I'm a bit nervous about speaking there. My topic is about how areas of the system didn't work for me. There will be several Dr's and research scientists. I was not thrilled when the Cancer Society asked me to speak on this topic. I realize that Drs do need to hear from real patients with real stories..please send a little prayer out my way.
I was intrigued by Jane's comments on the Montignac program. I wonder if his pills were herbal supplements?? or perhaps different vitamins. It doesn't surprize me that he is looking to increase his market base. Have you ever checked out his website?? there he has a services that you can buy from him as well. However which plan developer isn't marketing products?? Atkins had supplements to sell as do the Protein power docs. It goes on and on. I really think the Montignac program is fantastic. I do use herbal supplements mainly to boost my immune system which my cancer treatments did a number on. I agree with country mom that you should judge any program based on how it works for you. I tired Atkins and found it didn't suit me. It's ok to look around until you find a program that works for you.
There will always be a magic pill or potion around that makes absurd promises...oops time to get off the soapbox:soap: :soap: I guess I needed to vent a bit....have a lovely day everyone..Lori
Ellen 05-27-2003, 05:00 PM JANE: I can't imagine what they mean about an ingredient in Agave...its just ...agave syrup! The juice is extracted and reduced to the syrup, which is all fructose, instead of 50% fructose and 50% sucrose like honey. I believe the only ingredient listed on mine is agave. Check on line. You can get it at Golden Tropical, and several other low carb places as well. Unfortunately, you have to pay more for it online. I am keeping my fingers crossed that my Whole Foods will continue to carry it, and at the cheap price.
FILLISE: I got new garage doors ordered. Now I am waiting for the installer to call and tell me how soon they can get out here. I won't show Tom that bit about Mr. Rogers... but you are gonna owe me! :s: I am going to post the satay recipe on the board. I believe my bread recipe is already on there, but here are the proportions in case you can't find it: 2.5# recipe- 2 cups warm water, 4.5 cups Wheat Montana, 4.5 T wheat gluten, 1 t salt, 3 T agave, 1/3 cup oil, 2 t yeast. Put the stuff in the pan in that order, and set it on dough. When its done, punch it down and divide in half and put in 8" loaf pans. Let rise until doubled, bake at 375 for about 25 to 30 minutes. I am glad that you can tell a difference in texture. If you couldn't, everyone would have thought I was nuts....
COUNTRY: How many of your kids are you homeschooling? I had two, and one toddler and it was a challenge...I think year round school is a good idea, but I really wanted the break! :) I am not very structured, so it was always a challenge keeping everyone on task, and focused. Its hard when you have to struggle to stay focused yourself!
I am so tired today...I feel like I am dragging. I think I need to take a dip in the pool. Later all!
Solly 05-27-2003, 05:46 PM Gee on a day I really need to be on here, I can't get here.
Had a OP day and will continue tonight. Had 50+ oz of water and will have more tonight. Plan on walking and working out tonight. Jumping right back Op and going forward. Have a Dr appt in the morning. I have to learn to give myself shots for the RA. Hope I am a fast learner.
Jane, there are so many metabolism boosters out there, I'm sure everyone is on the bandwagon. You aren't taking any pills with SB and it works fine. I wouldn't give it another thought.
Jenn, those chicken wings sound good. Make sure you eat enough for 2.
Crystle, glad you got out there and walked today. I'm gonna do the same thing tonight.
Monet, I can relate on the vacation thing. I always wanted to go to Boston, Maine. The kids always said they didn't want to take an educational vacation. Hope to get there sometime before I die. Just think, tomorrow is already hump day! Bummer on the garage door, they can be expensive.
Susan, So glad you had a great time at Monet's. What a way to stay motivated with all the good cooking and great buys. Did she give you her recipes?
Grin, good luck with your talk today. I'm sure you will do great. Yes, Doctors need to hear that stuff from real patients. Good for you.
Have a great night. Hope to make it to chat tonight.
Good luck to everyone on WIW. I'm not looking forward to it.
Jackie
CountryMom4Him 05-27-2003, 06:19 PM Today was a great day. Not only did we walk I was able to get out and weed eat and mow for about an hour and a half. Will try to do some more tomorrow.
Jack-K...hope your appointment goes well in the morning. You are doing so good getting right back OP. You are such an encouragment.
Monet...I am teaching 4 out of the 5 children now. My oldest is out of the house. I would like to say he got with the program but he never did. He is suppose to be getting his GED at his dad's house. But that's yet to be seen. My children are 15, 10, 8 and 6. Next month the two girls will be 16, and 9. Brittany (16) is going to take her first SAT in two weeks. She is such a bright child. I can't take any credit other than genetics..:D My dad was one smart cookie. My ten year old is gonna be my toughie. Learning is hard for him. Every thing is a challenge. But I have seen great progress this year. My worse thing is grading papers. I grade the little ones right away but my daughter has some stuff...well I won't say when I should have graded it...LOL She is a straight A student so I get lazy.
Lori...praying you are a blessing and are blessed by this converence. ((hugzz))
Off to make dinner.
Love,
Crystle
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 05-27-2003, 07:07 PM WHEW!!!! AM I GLAD TO BE HOME!!!
I gues it's true what they say..."the more you sleep, the more you want to sleep!" I did me some sleeping this weekend! Slept late each day, then took a nap every afternoon  I didn't get to work this morning until almost 9a.m.! I have been so stressed lately that I stay tired! Better get that blood check I guess.
SUSAN & MONET...so glad you two had a good time this weekend.
Monet...you gotta watch SUSAN...no wonder you're tired....she kept me out all night drinking when she was down here!:s:
I'll have to check on that surfing business...I have NEVER known anyone to be able to surf around here except when there's a big storm brewing, or after we have one..The water is pretty calm all the way down past Naples...BUT if you come, OF COURSE I would love to see you...just let me know in enough time to get off at least one day...
JACKIE...so sorry about the RA...hope the shots are not too painful. Good for you though getting right back on program...
JENN..I watched the 1st INTERNATIONAL CHICKEN WING FESTIVAL yesterday on THE FOOD NETWORK...I absolutely love them. I buy the ones at SUPER WALMART under the GREAT VALUE label...they are GREAT!!!
GALS...I'm hurting today...already got Kate to rub me down..got to take my drugs and get relaxed..
SORRY I can't get to all of you...I'm sure you understand..

BOB
punkin7518 05-27-2003, 07:13 PM Hi, I'm new to the board and new to SB. I have read the book and done some internet research, but I still have questions.
1. There are some sugar-free items (like ice-cream) that have tons of carbs. Are these bad?
2. Where can I find food suggestions for different restaurants?
Thanks for your help. I have heard that this is the place to get answers, so I may have tons of questions.
Katie
Debelli 05-27-2003, 07:34 PM Hey All:wave:
Thought I'd be able to get in a post earlier today but unfortunately, I was wrong:nono: Had to go to Mom's, she got a new computer and had to figure out how to get the old stuff off of it to transfer to the new one BEFORE she opens the box. Have to go back on Friday morning.
MICHAEL is in need of the computer in a few, but will type on until I am booted.
Had a great time with TRANQUIL and so wished she lived closer, or at the very least, could of stayed longer. We went to see BRUCE ALMIGHTY yesterday and though it got awful reviews and only 1 star from the critique at the Miami Herald, it was funny. At one point I had tears running down my face from laughing!
I started reading a book I got from the library. I had actually seen it at a garage sale but didn't buy it because it had mildew on it. I would like to recommend that everyone try to get a copy of this book if they can, I've only gotten to page 36 and I can tell you it's already a great read. It's called THIN TASTES BETTER by Stephen P. Gullo, PH.D. If you can't find it at the library you may want to check out HALF.COM, they have many copies for just .75 cents plus the shipping. THIN TASTES BETTER AT HALF.COM (http://half.ebay.com/search/search.jsp?nthTime=1&product=books&query=thin+tastes+better)
I have not exercised in a long time:^: Didn't have time when TRANQUIL was here, didn't have time before and didn't feel like it today. Having that weird sharp pain that I've had before bothering me. Hopefully it will disappear as mysteriously as it re-appears soon.
NEWBIES so sorry I haven't been on here to give you an official SB WELCOME, so here you go!:D http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign4.jpg I'm hoping to get back on track to get in some regular posting to welcome you all as well as get back with my posting to the regular gals. I hope they have been taking good care in answering your questions and making you feel welcomed:)
Tomorrow ELI is off from work so you know what that means - BROWARD! I will try to get on the board before we head out to do some kind of a post!
I am hoping to try and see if I can get on here for chat tonight but since I didn't highten the awareness of it, not sure if anyone will show, much less will I even be able to get near the computer with the kids. School is over in 3 weeks so things will be winding down really soon with the computer-or at least I hope. At least they won't be able to use homework as an excuse to hog the computer!!!
I wish you all good luck with WIW tomorrow!!!!
Okay, I've been forewarned and it's time for me to skiddadle.
{{{{HUGS}}}}
Debbie
Ellen 05-28-2003, 12:32 AM Quick evening check in.
Tomorrow is the last day of school here. I have a 9am appointment for preorientation for work. Already they are asking me to work on a Saturday to help with the 17 wedding cakes they have week after next...and I have not even started working yet! :o
I got a new computer game today, and it is addicting. When I should have been napping, I was playing it!
No word from the installer for the garage door. Hopefully, they will not call tomorrow morning when I am at preorientation....
I found out something kind of sad today. I have poison ivy! I know that doesn't sound so sad to a lot of you, but I had reached the ripe old age of 50 never having had it before! I thought I was immune to it. I still can't figure out where I got it from! I decided it was all Tom's fault though!
BOB: I did post the satay recipe on the board, if you are interested. Its pretty easy. I think you could microwave it if you did not want to grill it.
PUNKIN: Go by the sugar grams and the ingredients, and don't worry about the carbs. You don't need to count carbs on this program. If the product has illegal things in it, then don't eat it.
As for lists of recommended items at restaurants, I have not seen anything like that. I am sure people will be happy to share suggestions, though. For instance, when I go to a Mexican restaurant, I ask them not to put chips on the table. I usually order Poblano Chili Rellenos, and ask for double beans instead of rice. The Chili Rellenos are just stuffed Poblano peppers, and are delish! If I go to a steak place, I will either get steamed veggies, or if I have a starch serving left, I might ask for a sweet potato with no toppings, just butter on the side. Most steak places have sweet potatoes now. Just remember that most restaurants that have wheat bread don't have 100% whole wheat bread....
I am heading off to bed! Sweet dreams everyone!
Teensybean 05-28-2003, 01:10 AM Good evening, another beautiful day here, so worked out in the yard all day!! Got my petunia's all planted. Tomorrow I will work on getting the Zinnia's in. Our garden is growing!! Everything that we planted has come up. I planted 5 hills of cucumbers, and have lost one plant, with another one looking iffy!! So may end up with only 4 hills. Squash is starting to poke through the soil now too.
I hope eveyone is doing great, haven't had time to do much reading. Dh is leaving for an overnight trip, so maybe Thursday night while he is gone I will have time to get caught up and get some replies in. Take care all of you, and know that you are still in my thoughts even if I am not posting much!!
PS-- I am still OP and hoping for a loss this week. I think I have sweat enough to lose a few!!
Zanne 05-28-2003, 08:30 AM Just checkin in
I'm NOT doing WIW for the next few weeks. I took my weight and measurements when I started my Power 90 program and I've put the scale in a closet till day 30. With the program, you get an "off" day with no exercise. I was going to keep on exercising anyway, but I got a migraine yesterday, so I was forced to take an off day. Today I'm ready to get right back into it even tho I'm a bit sluggish due to the meds I took for the headache. I'm even thinking of adding in a bit of cardio on my weight days!!!
I guess I had a totally "off" day yesterday. It was our anniversary and I got a little cake and had 2 pieces. Oh well, got that out of my system and actually am craving GOOD food. I had the cake after the headache, so I know that the headache wasn't caused by sugar.
Time to get the little guy ready for school.
I hope everyone has a good day!
Talitha 05-28-2003, 09:12 AM Well, I'm down 1 lb this week. That is something anyway, especially since I was so bad to eat smores and doritos while camping. I'm pushing for an all OP week and am doing well sofar. Yesterday I bought a 32 oz water bottle and drained it 4 times! I really need to get my behind exercising. YEsterday I planted some more flowers and I did some in-home exercises last night. My abs and legs are sore, so I know it did something. It's just hard trying to work and keep the baby, and cook healthy meals, exercise, etc.
Selah has finally grown out of her 0-3 month clothes. How did I get such a tiny baby? She's 5 months old and she weighs 13lb 4oz. Maybe she found some hidden skinny gene between me and her dad.
Trav actually told me yesterday that he feels healthier than he ever had and that he has no interest in changing from this WOE for the rest of his life. Very different from the grease monger I married :)
Debbie - That book sounds good. I'm going to go check it out from the library here. I need something to read.
Jane - I would feel a little leary after reading that about the pills, too. But it doesn't negate the proof that this WOE is healthy and it works.
Country - My husband and I were both homeschooled, and we hope to homeschool our own children if it's in God's big plan for us. I know it will be much more work for me, but we are both proof that it pays off. My younger sister, Hannah, is 21 and has not taken her GED yet anyway. She is dyslecsic and very afraid of failure. RIght now she is finishing an apprenticeship as a master beautician in ATlanta. The owner of the salon passed away in January, and her family has decided that Hannah should have the salon! They are litterally going to give her all of the shares!! Anyway, you will see me talking about her all of the time, because we are working on her wedding, and she and her fiance are buying a house 2 miles from us.
Monet- That bread recipie looks awesome. I do not have a bread maker, but I am going to try it by hand. Did you guys go to Harry's or to Whole foods for the agave? I have checked at the Harry's on 120loop and didn't see any. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place? The poison ivy stinks! I have never been allergic to it either,. I am always afraid that I will get it on me while I work in the yard, and transfer it to Selah without knowing. So far she hasn't had any.
Jack- Ouch.. Shots aren't fun at all. So sorry that you have to deal with that!
Jenn- Your wings sound really good. I am going to try them this week, and I am sure that my DH will thank you!!! did you just coat them and bake them? I've never tried to make wings before, but I thought they were fried.
well, I have to go drop Selah off at Gma's house s o that I can work today. I have a really bad feeling that she is going to end up on formula in the next month or 2. I just can't keep up with trying to work 2 PT jobs and keep her fed. I'm just going to go as long as I can, but at least we will make it to 6 months!
Talk to you all soon,
Talitha 05-28-2003, 09:14 AM Zanne
What is the power 90? I need some type of routine, or something. I have some weights at home, but I think I should buy more, or get some sort of video to work our to.
Solly 05-28-2003, 09:57 AM Happy WIW.
Hope the scale is good to everyone today.
Sorry I missed chat last night. I fell asleep at 8:30 on the couch. Got up at 10:00 and went to bed.
We did get oiur 3 mile walk and workout completed. Felt good to get out there again.
WIW was a shocker today. I was up 5 lbs. Can't say I don't deserve it. It really makes me see how stupid it is to go completely crazy for 3 days.
Dr.'s appt was quick. She decided she didn't want me to take the shots, but increased one of the meds. We will see how it goes. The only bad thing is it gives me diaherea (sp). Oh well.Sometimes that can be good. :o
Crystle, Glad you had such a great day yesterday. Hope todayis just as good. I admire you for teaching your kids. I sure wouldn't have the smarts or patience/
Bob, any results from the MRI yet? If I took a nap during the day I would be up all night. Now I did fall asleep at 8:30last night and when I went to bed at 10:00 I was worried I wouldn't fall asleep, but I did.
Punkin, Welcome to our board. You are right, you can get lots of help and info here. Such a great group. As far as restaurants go, stick with the meat, veggies and salad. Skip the breads. I eat the NSA ice cream. Don't worry about the amount of carbs in them. Sugar is the thing you are watching here. The only carbs we count are starchy carbs 2-3 a day.
Deb, sounds like you and Tranquil had a great time. Have fun with Eli today.
Monet, I just heard something for poison ivy on Paul Harvey's show this weekend. It's called Zanfeld. It is supposed to relieve and heal the itch in 30 seconds. I think you can get it over the counter. I have never gotten p.i. before either. Now maybe I need to watch a little closer since I have hit the big 50. Don't let those people at the bakery take advantage of you.
Tennsy, you are going to be eating good when the garden comes in. Good luck on your WIW.
Zanne, you re doing so great with your exercise program. I'm glad you really like it and are so motivated.
Talitha, Congrats on the 1 lb loss. Keep up the good work.
Have a great day.
Jackie
257/152/145 I'm not chaning my stats until I get rid of those 5 lbs.
10-10-01
WIW... I was down anothe lb yesterday, but back to 143 today which is ok. Still 100% OP. Just had an extra scoop of NAS Blue Bunny Ice Cream last night. I knew I shouldn't have .... oh well.
This will be short. I'm off today, but have lots & lots to do. Have an interview at a Home Health Nursing Agency that does private duty work & I've been in touch with them over the last few months thinking about taking the job. We'll know today.
Then I'm off to see my Mom at the nursing home, then to see my baby girl & take her to the doctor for her monthly visit & they will be doing her ultrasound today! We're hoping to find out that she will be having a girl. We have put in a special order :D
I also need to get to the bank & do some last minute things to prepare for vacation. We leave Frid morning early for New Smyrna Beach, FL for a week at the condo on the beach. Hoping to see Serene & Tranquil there for a visit.
Have to work another 12 hour shift tomorrow & I'm not packed. Do have the suitcase open on the bed though  I always say that I will do it ahead of time, but it always ends up to be the last thing I do before we leave. Well, got to go!
Oh BTW, Kim & Chris... was soooo nice to get to chat with the 2 of you on the SB Chat last night. I was late, but glad to have found you there :)
Have a great day everyone! BOB, hope you are feeling better!
Tranquil 05-28-2003, 10:19 AM Hi All:
WIW here and not a good one for me, but what the heck - will survive and will lose again!!!! Start walking tonight with hounds and Gram - will become the habit from tonight forward and this Saturday will get lots of exercise helping Gram move into her cute new little home!
I had a fantastic short vacation staying with Deb! Zachary loved it - he asked when he could go back. We shopped till I dropped!!!! Zach was the winner in shopping with new shirts, shorts, shoes, collectors cards - and I bought him tons of Annie's All Natural Mac & Cheese to bring back...I wish I lived closer to Miami!!!!! Missing Deb already!!!!! But very motivated!!!!!!
Work has been very busy and that is why I have not been able to post like I would like to - and it does not look like I will be able to have quality time this week as well....but I am going to try!!!!
I have challenged Serene - we are going to eat a bowl of Fiber One in the a.m.'s with Soy Milk and Rasberries (Oh I wonder who gave me this idea? hahaha DEB!!!) starting tomorrow and we have to drink a minimum of four 12 oz cups of water..... the challenge is from tomorrow until next WIW...and see if it helps us :)
Hi Everyone - Hi Newbies!!!! And I am so jealous Fillise - I am ready for my trip to Spa Monet too!!!!!! Loved the picture!!!!!
Congrats Jenn!!!!!
Got to get back to work and get project finished before Bossman gets back into office.

Zanne 05-28-2003, 10:48 AM Talitha and any one else wondering:
Power 90 is a set of exercise vidoes or DVDs. One day is "sculpt" with weights, the second day is cardio and ab work. You alternate the routines. DH and I caught the infomercial on it and it looked interesting. The do not make false claims. They tell you, you have to work hard. DH said that if I ordered it he would do it with me--he still has to do a workout.
You can find more info at: www.power90.com The parent company is Beachbody (www.beachbody.com) and they have more workout programs too.
If you want another good place to check out workout videos, try: www.collagevideo.com I believe you can even preview snip-its of the videos on line here.
Hope that helps.
Debelli 05-28-2003, 11:04 AM Good Wednesday Morning Everyone:wave:
Hoping you are all starting this WIW out well:) Me, I'm pooped. I slept awful last night, sweated like a pig with night sweats, which haven't happened for a while and wasn't what I was hoping to have last night for sure.
Wasn't able to get on the computer to see if anyone was at chat last night, not because of either kid but we had to shut the computer down due to some awful weather we had last night, we lost electricty 4 times but only for a second (my appliances just LOVE that!), they had bad flooding up in Broward and we are all on a flood watch (doesn't mean much to me here though) til 5pm as we are expecting more rain - it's looking a bit nasty out there.
ELI is just getting up and we'll be heading out after showers. Okay, now I'm out of the shower, got sidetracked and now we are getting ready to leave as soon as the coffee guy gets his butt out of the shower.
Okay, I can't make any promised anymore about posting, I think I'll be able to get on and something or someone hinders my plans, so as of now, I just have to say I'll get on here as soon as I can. I'm thinking about not going to the ministry to volunteer tomorrow so I can get in a post, but then, I haven't been there in almost a month and I know they can use the help, decisions, decisions:?: Friday I have to go back to Mom's to help hook up the new computer, or that's the plans. Not sure if I'll even have time to get to the Friday yoga class.
Will try to get on when we get home, once again, depends on the kids and if they are needing it.
Oh, and the book, I'm still putting a high recommendation on it. I think it has a food plan to follow in it, but I haven't gotten that far, but the info in it is wonderful as far as our eating behaviors! I'm on page 68 I think.

The Quilter 05-28-2003, 01:33 PM Hello Y'all!
Well, it's WIW and I have to tell you that I was up one pound this week. Not so bad considering my focus has been so blurry lately. I hope you all did better than me.
Last night I bit the bullet and went to my old weight watchers meeting. I had been thinking about doing that for a while. I felt like I needed to be in that conversation as well as on this board and talking to other friends. The more support the better. I was glad to see it was the same leader as last time. She's great. Even remembered my name and I haven't been there for well over 20 years. So my scales pretty much agree with theirs. That's always a sigh of relief that I've been accurate this whole time. LOL!!!
Managed to get on the chat last night. Talked brieflly with BKM and MELF. What a couple of wonderful people! BKM sounded good. Still getting adjusted to her new single life. She's a strong person, she'll make it.
My eating has been good the past two days. Still trying to journal everything. That's my downfall. During the day I'm good, but only tempted to eat past the portion size at home. Got up early and did the TM on Tues and today. That really helps. For those of you who aren't exercising regularly, I'd really like to encourage you to start and keep going. It truly makes me feel so much better. Getting that good sweat so early in the morning sets the day on a positive mark.
DEB---Just read your above post. Sorry your life is so hectic right now. We all go through those times when we feel like we're spinning in circles or running a long, long race. So hang in there. You know we'll all be here when you get the time. Just don't stress out about it. Go and volunteer. They need you. Didn't you know I would say that?????
Okay, I'm at work and trying to fit this in to lunch time. So I'd better go. Sorry I can't respond to everyone right now. Just need to get back to my desk stuff.
Take care.
Kim
jecrites 05-28-2003, 01:41 PM Hello everyone.
I haven't had time to sit and read all the posts, but I did read a few of them. I'll have to come back later to get to the rest of them.
I think my 4 yr. old is going through some weird hormonal changes or something. She is being so bad here lately and I have no idea what to do about it. She won't stay out of her sister's room and leave her stuff alone. She gets in trouble for it, but it's like talking to a brick wall.
I saw that everyone had a good weekend. Mine was pretty boring. Didn't do much of anything. We did go to this furniture store that's having a remodeling sale, and geez, if those were the sale prices on their stuff, I'd hate to see the regular prices. We are in need of a new computer desk and living room furniture, but it sure won't be coming from them.
I also saw that Jenn is expecting her first baby. Congratulations! :balloons: :hat: :bb: :cp: :cb: Babies are wonderful, and they smell so good. I'll be praying for you and the baby that everything goes great.
Ok, I'm off to see what my kids are into. I'll talk to y'all later.
Jenn
ldblond 05-28-2003, 01:57 PM I am up one half pound from last Wednesday. No wonder still having trouble sticking too 100% for all three meals. Seems like the days I hurt the most. I just don't care about what I eat. Then I go to school today and find out my daughter is making excuses for how I look. It's not that I look bad, in fact, some people wonder why am trying to lose weight; it's that in the past year I dress more sloppy, because I have to wear layers, and I don't always get my hair and makeup done. My daughter doesn't know that she is done anything wrong. She is just at an age where there has to be a reason for everything. I received a motivational thought I would share midweek. I'm going to post it on a refrigerator. I know it's about working in the family; when I first read it I could more identify with changing family to self.
Today's thought is:
A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.
--Chinese proverb
Even the strongest, most loving families always have room for
growth. There is no such thing as a "perfect" family. If our
family is far from perfect, that's okay. It only matters that we
are working at getting better. Often, runners will say they can
remember many days when they just did not feel like running;
however, once they started, they felt more energy and were easily
able to run the distance they had set for that day.
Whatever we need to do, we can do in small acts--a chore done
without being asked, a helping hand with the dishes, a soft word,
a surprise gift for no reason. These are small things, easily
done. Love is made of small things; what is large is the love
with which they are accomplished.
When we begin to work on our relationship with our family, we
will feel the new energy, and quickly we will find ourselves
making progress.
What is the first thing I can do today to improve my relationship
with my family?

Sorry no replies today, pretty uncomfortable and need to go rest.
CountryMom4Him 05-28-2003, 03:05 PM Howdy all! Still up that one pound from a couple of weeks ago. But I'll take it with my lack of motivation lately.:)
Talitha...How neat that you both were home schooled. I think it's so neat that your sister is going to get the shop. It's amazing the things that God puts in place for us.
Jack-K.....the scales are just being onery...it's probably water and it will be gone in a couple of days of good eating. Except for the chips I am doing pretty good. I was holding my own with the chips for about a month and the last few days I've lost my mind.:D
Jecrites..I think it's just an age thing. Kids like to constantly change just to keep us on our toes. :)
Idblond..I liked your chinese proverb.
Kim.....you are such a treasure I am not surprised she remember you! ((hugzz))
Sabrina!!! Welcome back. It sounds like you and Deb had a super time. I love hearing about what a blessing your trips are. It's almost like being there.
Zanne...thanks for sharing the info on the tapes. Your hubby sounds like mine. Though Robert did walk on the treadmill once...hehehe
Melf...those pounds are just melting off. You are doing GREAT!
Love,
Crystle
Rosalie 05-28-2003, 03:26 PM Hi Everyone
No changes for me to-day. I am the same as last week at 197 but still happy to be below the 200 mark. Still eating good and journalling on FitDay. Had oatbran for breakfast this morning and liver and onions and kale for lunch. Plan on having chicken in parmesan coating for dinner with coleslaw and turkey soup. Have a turkey carcas to boil up.
Jane - I would be interested to read the article by Montignac about the diet pills. Can you tell me what newspaper it was in. Maybe they will have it on-line. I guess he just wants to make some more money like everybody else in the diet business. Before the SB book came out the authors had been talking about collaborating with him to publish his book in the US but the plans didn't materialize for whatever reason and before he new it the SB authors had come out with their own book. So maybe this is now a way for him to try and make some money off of the American people to make up for his losses from his book not doing so well in the US due to the SB book. But the SB authors definitely got the idea for this woe from him and it is still an excellent eating plan.
Jack-K - Hope the recall for the mamogram doesn't turn out to be anything serious. Glad you don't have to give yourself those shots.
Jenn in MN - Those chicken wings sound yummy. I'm going to try some chicken breast and thighs in the parmesan coating tonite. Hope they turn out as good as the wings.
Grin - Hope the cancer conference went well for you yesterday.
Jane - The only ingredient listed in Agave is 100% Organic Agave Nectar. The bottle I am using now says it has a "90% fruit sugar and 10% glucose content" and it's gi is very low - I think it is about 11. This is an old supply that I am using as I had bought several boxes when I was in Florida last year and still using them up. But another box I had (from a different store but still Sweet Cactus Farms) had a lower fruit sugar content and higher glucose content so the gi was quite a bit higher on that one. Apparently a year or two ago they had been having trouble getting a supply of the blue agave and were using an agave plant with a lower fruit sugar content. But even if this is what they are producing now shouldn't be any reason for the store to discontinue it unless it is another brand with some other ingredient in it. Do you know what brand it was?
Sorry I can't reply to you all. I am running out of time and have to get in the shower and fix my hair. Had a busy morning with laundry, tidying up, usual kitchen chores as well as trying to catch up on some reading. Even got on the stationery bike and did two miles. I'm always telling myself that it's good for my knees to ride the bike but usually forget to do it. Yesterday I was on the run all day. Put in some more plants in the morning then had line dancing and badminton in the evening. As well as going to my dd's to fix her kids dinner. Have to get out this afternoon to pick up a few things at the grocery store. Congrats to all the losers this week. And everyone else just hang in there.
Marie.
Ellen 05-28-2003, 05:13 PM Still no word from the garage door installer....sigh.
WIW was not pleasant. I was up ten pounds from last Thursday. I am sure it is water weight, so I took one of my diuretics. I do feel bloated. I am eating only legal stuff, just too many starches, in my bid to get back on program. I figure once I get back under control, I can start working on the portions.
I had a pre-orientation meeting with the store HR lady today. I got uniforms and paperwork. I also got my schedule. I work 6am to 1pm three days next week. I am going to have to talk to the manager and get that changed to four days from 6am to 11!
TRANQUIL: Don't you take Thyroid meds? If so, you may want to skip the soy milk....soy binds with thyroid hormones making them unusable to the body.
Pancho 05-28-2003, 05:25 PM Well WIW was good to me (but for all the wrong reasons). I have been fluctuating between 135-136 lately, and this morning, I was down to 132. BUT, that was because I was up all night with some type of bug (throwing up & diarrhea). I am drinking lots of fluids and know that I will be up a few pounds in the next few days. Timing really stinks too because Wed. mornings are the days that I go to the gym at 6:a.m. and my husband stays home with the kids. So, I didn't get my workout in, and will miss working out the rest of the week; we have company coming in tomorrow.
I am going to be skipping around a lot, but here goes:
Rosalie: Keep up the good attitude; you are still under 200 pounds....take those mini-steps. Keep up the great work with the journaling; that always seems to help me out.
Idblond: So sorry to hear the today has been kind of a downer; it will get better. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and move on. You seem to have a positive attitude and will do just that.
Jecrites: Boy, can I relate. I have a five year old daughter and I think they are hormonal from birth. My poor husband has to deal with me and two girls...what a lucky man! Hopefully for his sake, in the future, we will all have that TOM at the same time, and he can just go fishing or something (ha). Hope you will be able to find the furniture you are looking for. Furniture shopping can be difficult.
Kim: 1 pound is nothing to sweat. I find that I am so good during the day too, when I am busy. I seem to get the munchies between lunch and dinner. I've never been much of a late night snacker, unless it is an occasional bowl of popcorn or something, but those afternoon hours are the toughest. I totally agree with exercise, especially if you can get it in early. It really sets the tone for the entire day and keep me so much more on track.
Deb: We love to hear fro you and read your posts. BUT, you have the ministry, your family and your self. Do what you have to do, and we will look forward to more posts when your life settles down a bit.
Jackie: I hope your doctor's appt. went well.
Bob: I am jealous. I wish I could take a 20-30 minute catnap during the day. Hopefully this summer, I will be able to when I have the kids take some quiet time.
Punkin: Get the carbs out of your head! It's very difficult, I know. I did Atkins from 2/24 - 4/30, and then started Sugar Busters. It was hard to train myself away from the carbs. Just watch those starchy carbs and you will be fine! Welcome! Also, when you order out at Mexican food (which is one of my favs), order the beef or chicken fajitas and eat them with the "fixins" and don't eat the tortillas or any of the rice.
Monet: So sorry to hear about the poison ivy. I've never had it, but my aunt did and was miserable for quite some time. I hope you are able to get your garage doors fixed soon.
Zanne: Great job on working out; I can't wait to hear the 30 day results. I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised. More power to you staying motivated to work out at home; that's difficult for most of us.
Talitha: Wow, a pound down after such indulgences. Good for you!!! Good job on the water intake.
Tranquil: Do glad to hear you and Deb had so much fun.
Jenn in MN: CONGRATULATIONS!!! What an awesome event in your life. I had a miscarriage once as well, but now have two beautiful babies. I will continue to pray for a healthy pregnancy for you and for that little one. Just take good care of yourself, and place the rest in God's hands.
Well, gotta go wake up the baby to take my oldest to get her hair cut.
I hope to check in later. Have a good rest of the week!
Solly 05-28-2003, 05:41 PM Whew, what a crazy day. Glad it is over.
Got to run to get my nails done, but wanted to make a quick post.
Melf, that pound will be gone by tomorrow. Hope you get what you ordered at the ultra sound. Your vacation sounds nice. And you get to meet SErene and Tranquil. How fun.
Tranquil, I'm glad to see Deb got you motivated and you are getting back into your walking. Sounds like a good challenge you and Serene have going. Good luck.
Deb, Hope you all don't float away. It ahs rained here almost everyday. I'm really tired of that and the cool weather. Send me some of your hot weather. You better try that cohash that Monet talks about for those hot flashes.
Kim, don't worry about that pound. It will disappear quickly. Glad to hear you re back on the TM. We do feel better when we exercise and eat right. You would think we would learn that.
Jecrites, that 4 year old is just trying you on. Show her who's boss.
Country, don't worry about that pound. it will go quickly.
Idblond, it is hard to fix yourself up when you feel bad. Hopefully your DD will understand that.
Rosalie, My DH wants to come to your house. He loves liver and onions. I won't fix it. Glad you are riding your bike.
Monet, 10 lbs? You know that is not fat. You will be ok. How is your poison ivy?
Panco, sorry to hear you were sick, but sometimes we take a loss anyway we can get it.
have a great evening.
Jackie
Jenn in MN 05-28-2003, 06:17 PM Hi everyone, just a quick check-in. Sorry to have missed chat last night. I got settled in bed and realized it was probably over. :(
SPLAT! That's my fat, PG butt falling OFF of the wagon. A co-worker is getting married on Sunday, and picked Italian as her farewell lunch. There was nothing, and I mean NOTHING I could eat there that wasn't OP (except maybe a plain salad). Ugh! Then to add insult to injury, I just *had* to have a Hostess cupcake when I got back to work. Why? Why? Why?
So I feel sick from the sugar and carbs. Ugh. Oh well, back on the wagon. It's more important than ever, with Peanut on board.
ttfn,
Jenn
Teensybean 05-28-2003, 08:24 PM WIW-- Well, those dear old scales have me weighing the same as last week. Darn, I was hoping all that sweating out in the yard was doing something for me. (Well, my old faithful scale has me down 1 pound, but the new digital one has me at the same.) So we will wait and see what happens.
Today is my dh birthday, and since he is doing SB with me now, I couldn't make his favorite brownies for him. But I found a reicpe in the paper for Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp. I did some adjustments to make it legal, and here it is if anyone is interested.
Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp
Topping:
3/4 c WW flour
3/4 c Splenda (I don't have the Agave Nectar yet)
1 tsp Nutmeg
dash salt
6 TBl butter
3/4 c rolled oats
Filling:
2 pints strawberries, stemmed and halved
3 cups rhubarb slices, 1/3 inch thick
2/3 c Splenda
2 TBl ww flour
Heat oven to 400*
In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, nutmeg and salt; blend thoroughly. With pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Mix in oats; set aside.
In another large bowl, mix 4 cups of the strawberries (reserve remaining berries), the rhubarb, sugar and flour to blend thoroughly. Spoon into shallow 2-quart baking dish. Cover evenly with topping.
Bake in center of oven about 40 minutes until filling is bubbly and topping is lightly browned. Cool slightly. Serve warm or at room temperature with reserved strawberries. Top with whipped cream, or ice cream if desired.
Yield: 8 servings.

We will be having this for dessert tonight, so will let you know how it tastes. I will probably even let dh have FF NSA Ice Cream with his, since he has been doing so well, and it is his Birthday!!
Hope everyone has a great night, and will be alone tomorrow since hubby is leaving at 5 am.
Hi everyone, just checking in to give you all a quick report about the ultrasound. DD & I were very anxious to find out that it would be a girl, but alas, it is not meant to be. God's plan is bigger than ours & we both know that this 5th grandson of mine will be a blessing. Guess I'll put away that pink baby crochet blanket I was about finished with & go trade in the rest of the pink yard for some blue one :( But as I told Jodi, hey, look at the bright side...there are plenty of hand me downs coming your way from all those other boys in the family
Jackie, if Serene & Tranquil do make it down to New Smyrna Beach, it will actually be the 3rd time we spend some time together. :) Looking forward to it.
Got to go! Not sure if I'll get back to the board before we leave, but will try. If not, will be checking in next week from the Public Library. :D Night all!
The Quilter 05-28-2003, 10:43 PM Hello all you busters of sugar!!!! Hope this evening finds you well.
I just got home from my Altrusa meeting. Was installed as secretary for this next year. I think it will be fun. But I'll need to wear my Miss Organization Hat all the time, and we all know that hat can get pretty heavy at times. Especially for me! LOL!!!!
Here are a few quick replies:
PANCHO---That's a rough way to lose a couple of pounds. Hope that nastiness hits the road soon. No fun indeed. I am right there with you about the late afternoon snacking thing. That's so HARD to fight. If I make it through the afternoon at work, then I'm ravenous when I get home. The key for me is to get busy right away (like mowing or doing something productive) to keep from grazing. Hang in there. We'll get this right yet! LOL
JENN---You are looking at this eating project in the right mind set. Little Peanut needs a healthy, happy mommy. Keep up the work. There will be setbacks, just remember to jump back on the wagon. And try to make the setbacks further apart than before,
TEENSY---Your rhubarb recipe sounds wonderful! WTG!!! You are super woman and super wife all rolled up into one magnificent package. Nice going!!!
MONET----Honey, read my lips . . . GET BACK ON THAT TREADMILL. That's a response from the other day when you said you needed me to come kick your butt about it. Consider this a kinder gentler way of nudging your booty back on there. Honestly, I'm telling you, I've done it two days in a row and feel good. In the afternoon when everybody else in the office is needing caffeine, I'm cool. I know it's from the exercise in the morning. Come on girlfriend, don't make me call down there to SpaMonet at 6 a.m. and get you up!!!LOL
MARIE---So glad to hear that you are keeping it steadily below the 200 mark. That's great!!! I remember when you were trying to just get there and now you are passed it. Remember, slow and steady wins the race. Keep it up, girlfriend!
COUNTRY----You are so sweet, what a nice thing to say to me. I'm sure my DH could tell you stories. Ha!!! Hey, what's with this lack of motivation, girl. I swear there must be something in the air. I've been struggling for 6 weeks. Come on, just shake it off and get back into the groove. Last night at the WW meeting, the leader asked us to visualize where we would be by Labor Day. She said that Monday was the beginning of summer and LD was the unofficial end of summer. And that we have three big months to accomplish something. So I sat there and tried to picture myself with 17-20 more pounds off. If I lose one a week, I can be almost to the 160's. For now, that's what's keeping me focused. Find out what it will take to get you motivated. You know you are worth this, and you can do it. Any past attempts or failures have absolutely nothing to do with right here and right now. Keep going!!! You know what to do. HUGS back at ya'!!!
LDBLOND---Thanks for the meditation. Feel better soon!!!
BOB---I firmly believe what you said about getting tooooo much sleep. I think it happens to me a lot on the weekend. I know I sleep better on the week nights. Hope you are feeling better! Would a massage help your pain? I'll bet it would help your stress. Do you do anything to those super WalMart chicken wings or are they ready to heat and eat???
DEB---Thanks for the book recommendation. Sounds like a great concept!!! Doesn't that go along with the old "nothing tastes as good as losing weight feels."
ZANNE---Good idea to wait 30 days before weighing. I am so excited to hear what that result is going to be. How are you feeling? Hope that migraine doesn't show its ugly face around anymore. How's dh doing with the power 90? Is he able to keep up with you?????
TALITHA---Congrats on the 1 pound loss. GREATTTTT!!!! That's the way to do it, a pound at a time. BTW, your avatar is precious. There's a lot of love in that picture. Thanks for sharing with us.
JACKK---Sorry to hear about your gain. It could have something to do with this medicine you are taking. Just don't get discouraged at this small setback. You'll get those pesky 5 off in no time. Side effects from meds are the worst!!!! Weren't you blaming your frequent bathroom trips on your food choices from the weekend? I guess it's stuck around too long to be that. Take care.
MELF---I, too, enjoyed the chat. You are so great! Good for you on the pound loss. Are you still at your goal weight? I can't remember what it was. How tall are you? I think from your pictures that you look like Skinny Minny. What was your all-time lowest? I can't decide what my goal weight should be. For now, My goal weight is to get into the 160's. I'll take it from there after Labor Day. I think the top of my goal range (according to WW) is 155. But I think I'll need to go below that. How did you decide what your weight should be? How was your meeting this morning? How about DD's appointment??? Good news on both I hope.
Okay, loved ones. I need to hit the sack. 5:30 is coming around awfully early. Need to get my snooze-fest in before then. One more day til Friday. Yippee!!!!!
Kim
Ellen 05-29-2003, 12:37 AM Just got in a few minutes ago from small group meeting. We had Boston Market and I stayed pretty well on program with the chicken and veggies. Passed on the corn muffin and only had a taste of the sweet potatoes. I feel rather edgy tonight...not sure why.
Nothing from the garage door installers. grrr....
JACK: We have Zanfel, and it works pretty well! It did not work the first time I tried it, and I thought that what was on my leg was not poison ivy, but Tom convinced me to try again...and the second time it worked well. It still seems to be spreading a bit though. Its a pain!
JENN: You need to get back on the wagon, dear. It is doubly important now that you are eating for two! Lets sit together...I need to hop on the old wagon too!
TEENSY: Happy birthday to your hubby! The recipe sounds great! Are you going to post it on the recipe board?
PANCHO: Ew! Not a fun way to lose weight! But hey, take it anyway you can get it! ;)
ROSALIE: How do you fix your liver? I used to like it fried with onions in bacon grease...have not had it for years. My mother in law country fries it. Once she made it that way, and my sister in law came in from work for lunch. She was about 12, and a bit greedy. She thought it was steak, and no one clued her in. We all laughed when she took the biggest piece, before anyone else got to the table, and we fell out of our chairs when she bit into it and found it was liver!
QUILTER: Ok, tomorrow I will get on the treadmill. Just don't call at 6! I am going to have to start work at 6 am next week! shudder!
I know I have missed some..and I apologize. I just need to go fall in bed! Good night! Sweet dreams!
Teensybean 05-29-2003, 01:33 AM Wednesday night-- just had a minute before going to bed. Thought I would check in, and let you know that the Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp was delicious! Dh had his with ice cream, but I ate mine plain, and it was sooo good! Sweet, tart!! Yummy!!
Melf-- Sorry that you aren't going to get that darling little girl, but baby boys are just as sweet. But with 4 other grandsons you already know that. Just pray for a healthy one, and know that it is all in God's hands.
Quilter-- Congrats on the new job. You are braver than I am....hope you have lots of fun being secretary!! Super who??? lol.
Monet-- Dinner form Boston Market sounds delish..... our here in town all closed down a few years ago! What is keeping that installer guy?? I will post the recipe on the recipe board as soon as I am done here. Thanks for the reminder!!
Grin + Share it 05-29-2003, 03:25 AM Hi Sugar Busters... I am just back from the cancer conference. It was such a learning experience and I even found out my public speaking fears were unecessary. I had no problem and received many ?? and positive comments.
I did learn about a new study just in on HRT ( hormone replacement therapy ) in a study of 5000 women over the age of 50 that had been on long term HRT, the incidence of developing senility and alzheimer's disease increases by 50%. Thats one scary statistic. I was on HRT for several years and will defintiely advise my girlfreinds considering HRT to really examine the risk factors before going on this therapy.
But we can't fret about every study...there were also many stats linking obesity to increased cancer rates. The dietition's talk could have come out of the Sugar Buster's book. So I'm even more convinced this is a great eating plan.
Must get to bed now since I have many last minute things to do before the Cancer Relay... Life is good... have a great day everyone... Lori
Solly 05-29-2003, 09:39 AM Good Thursday Morning.
It is cold and rainy here yet again today. I am so sick of this cold weather.
We are supposed to hav bunco on a friend's house boat on the river tonight. That would be fun if it weren't for the nasty weather.
It did stop long enough last night to get in my 3 mile walk.
My sister called last night and they had to take my dad to the hospital by ambulance. They couldn't even get him to the car. He is in ICU with pneumonia (sp) in both lungs. He has a bad heart and all he wants to do is die. I really don't think he will come through this one. He is the last of 13 siblings last and my mom has been gone for 5 years. He has lived with my DS for the last 3 years but is just miserable. I guess we will wait and see.
Jenn, just put that lunch behind you and move ahead.
Teensy, Happy Birthday to your D. You should make Deb's cheesecake for him. It's to die for.
Melf, I firmly believe God gives you what you can handle (that's why I have 2 girls). Everything happens for a reason. If it were a girl, she probably would be spoiled rotten.
Kim, Congrats on the new office. I'm sure you will do a great job. Heck, if you can journal everyday, that says organized to me. No the meds aren't making me gain. Wish I could blame it on that but I know better. It was my lack of bathroom trips that was bothering me.
Monet, Hope your poison ivy is better. I have read the pi doesn't really spread, that it just takes longer to show up in places. Now ask anyone that has it will tell you it spreads.
Grin, Glad the talk did good. I knew you would be fine and do a great job. Glad you got a little reinforcement on the WOE.
Have a great day.
Jackie
Talitha 05-29-2003, 09:39 AM I am SOOOOO BAD!!! We started a small group at our house last week wed. We ended up with 10 people, and I made SB legal snacks, that everyone loved. So last night was out second night and I had worked all day, so someone else brought some snacks. She brought spinach dip with fritos and tons of cookies!! I WAS SUCH A PIG! I ate 2 cookies and God know's how many fritos before I suddenly realized that I could put the spinach dip on melba toast. I just had '0' self control. I'm so disappointed in myself.
Anyway now I'm feeling frantic, like maybe I should fast all day to punish myself. Is that stupid, or what?
Up to that last evening, I was OP all day and drained my 32oz water bottle 4 times. I can't do the math. Blame it on the homeschooling:dizzy:
Teensy - Your dessert sounds great. Maybe I will try that next week for small group! ANd I'm going to check out Fitday. I think I would do better if I was journaling, but I am aweful at it.
Pancho - I hope you are feeling better today.
Ok. I'm off to walk and then go to Harry's farmers marked for groceries. I'm going to look for the agave again. Maybe I looked in the wrong place last time? I hava a million and one things to do today, so I hope selah will cooperate. HOw can I attach a picture of Selah? I tried and it didn't work :?:
Talitha 05-29-2003, 09:41 AM Ummmmmm ...... I guess the picture worked, but that wasn't the one I was going to send. She doesn't look very happy
jane8760 05-29-2003, 09:44 AM Sorry I haven't posted much lately....I have been so busy at work.
ok here goes.......I am beside myself this morning. My weight is out of control! I am really upset about it today so I apologize for being such a downer. I just don't know what to do next. I have no problem with this WOE in that I know it is such a healthy way to eat but it is not helping me lose weight. I have tried only having 1500 calories a day and that doesn't work, I try cutting out wine during the week and that doesn't work, I try following my points in Weight Watchers and that doesn't work.
Everyone tells me I just don't want it bad enough but as I grow out of all the clothes in my closet I wonder just how big will I get before I want it bad enough!
I am considering calling a nutritionist but I don't know if that is the secret either. I would go to the doctors but they always tell me to just eat less and exercise more. Sure....this coming from a skinny doctor!
The last doctor I saw told me that as long as I was taking Celexa I would never lose the weight. Coming off that medication at this point is not an option. My anxiety and panic attacks have never been more under control. I feel better emotionally than I ever have. So is this a trade off? Well I don't like it!
I wish that I could wave a magic wand and make it all go away but I know that I can't and that in itself is suffocating.
I'm in a big dark hole today I guess.....I will come out soon I know, I always do.
I am off tonight to find a dress for a wedding we have to go to this weekend. I tried on everyone in my closet last night an none of them fit. I just wanted to cry. My husband is sick of me crying about my weight. He is naturally skinny so that doesn't help. He just thinks you should "just do it" as he says.
Well, that is my story for today......
I am off to work. Today is not going to be as busy so I should be able to post more later.
Here's hoping you are all feeling better than me today:mad:
Debelli 05-29-2003, 10:31 AM Good Thursday Morning Everyone:wave:
Yes, it's me, yes, I'm posting and yes, it's raining here again!!!!!!!! It's terrible out there, it's been non-stop raining here since TRANQUIL arrived last week. Not a day passed while she was here that we didn't get some rain, but the last 3 days we've had a lot and today isn't looking good, it seemed to rain all night and it's raining now. Still a flood watch til tonight. On a better note, I have time to post!!!!
Went up to Broward yesterday and didn't do all that much. We went to see "A MIGHTY WIND" and QUILTER, I know you loved it, but I hated it! I should of known when I saw BEST IN SHOW and wasn't crazy about that and saw the reviews saying it wasn't as good as BIS. We almost went to see BRUCE ALMIGHTY again but got there about 10 minutes in to the movie and I wanted ELI to see it from the start, so we went to AMW instead:(
Anyhow, I'm not going to babble on, I'm going to try to get in some posts while I can...
ZANNE, I'm going to have to look in to this info you posted about the POWER 90, I haven't a clue what you are referring to. Serves me right for being away!;) Sounds like you are doing well in every dept, keep up the great work!!!
JENN, CONGRATULATIONS first of all, that's wonderful news to hear! :cp: I hope all goes well with your pregnancy. This WOE is definitely good to follow while being preg. unless your Dr. thinks otherwise for some reason. Do you have an idea when your DD will be? Thanks for spilling the beans to all of us on the board - it makes us feel extra special:D Just make sure, even though you don't seem to be hungry, that you eat enough!!! Those chicken wings sounded divine!
QUILTER, sounds like you are doing well, esp. with all that planting you've been doing. Oh how I wish I was a plant person! Even so, plants in Miami are sorta boring-I love flowering plants and up north they are so much nicer, nothing much wants to grow down in this heat but green plants:shrug: What's this about SEF and her falling? Have you heard from her since? Have you ever thought about going to a TOPS meeting, there you can be on any WOE, and it's a lot cheaper than WW. Hey, I found a freeware program for the palm for water intake-let me know if you are interested!
HEART, so sorry, I didn't post a weekly challenge this week, just didn't have time to get in more stuff while TRANQUIL was here. I'll double up next week. Any ideas??
ARCAYNE, okay, with me you're going to be reduced to ARC, less typing, call me lazy! Hope you are doing well with SB.
MELF, 5lbs since Sunday? Geez, if that's what being OP 100% will do for a gal, I'm all for it! CONGRATS! I like the way you look at having another boy. It's what we will have to tell my DS if she has another girl, though I know she has a ton of boys stuff that she's bought in the past, hoping one of the girls would be a boy. Do remember though, ultrasounds have been wrong in the past! I hope you get to see TRANQUIL & SERENE, geez, I'm so mad at myself now, I should of sent TRANQUIL home with an extra bag of SB COFFEE for you! Darn! Have a wonderful time!
MONET, LOVED seeing all the pics. I may have not been able to post but I scanned the board when I could. Sounds like you had a great time with ROSE and with FILLISE-don't you just LOVE meeting the board members in person! Poison ivy? Hope you are feeling better! What game are you so addicted to??
TALITHA, sounds like you had a nice weekend. Gosh, I haven't had smores since I was little. I highly doubt (at this point) that I could/would of resisted! Purple grass? CONGRATS on your 1lb loss this week!!! Keep up the great work. Oh girl, before you turn around, you'll be wondering where all the years have gone and how your "baby" is leaving for college in a year-just how I feel about MICHAEL! Hard to believe he's going to be a Senior this year and going to college next year. They grow up so/too quickly! I LOVED seeing the picture of you and SELAH, she is precious! Oye, you just want to eat those cheeks! You are so cute! You look like a teenager!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing that great picture with all of us - I love putting a name with a face!!!:D
LDBLOND, always have a wonderful time when I'm with any of the gals from the board - I remember our time together fondly:)
ROSALIE, glad to hear you're doing well:) The MM I posted, liked them too! Just found a good one for this Monday! You HAVE to see if you can find the book I recommended, it's one I have to say I may end up buying it's so good!
JACKK, I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad! I hope and pray he makes a speedy recovery. Please keep us informed on what is happening. I don't think I will ever go off plan again. Unfortunately, we both know that this will happen again but we have to figure out what is the best way to deal with it when it does. What's this about the recall notice? Sounds like you're a car! Hope everything goes well with that. I was suppose to get a mam oh, about a year ago. Need to get that taken care of, esp. just in case we lose the insurance for some reason! Hope your friend will be okay! Geez, do you have to rub it in that you still have cool weather? Okay, so where are those darn pictures already???
JANE, wow, that's surprising info on Montignac! Can you e-mail me the paper's website so I can read the article? Yes, SB was taken from his book. As for the agave, there was something a long time ago that I can't remember exactly, but it was about agave and something in it that they didn't recommend to women who may be pregnant, but I think it was for the herb. Will have to look and see if I can find more info. Sorry to hear you are having a hard time today. You know, you CAN call me if you ever want to chat!!!
FILLSE, sounds like you had a nice time at Spa Monet! Lounging around the pool, eating good food, good company-I think we should all make a date to go there!:D Lucky you who got to go to Harrys and the Dekalb market - great places! Good going on the agave!!!! Geez, I just saw a site charging $16 for an 8oz bottle!:fr:
GRIN, glad to hear all went well at the conference and I'm sure what you had to say was well received.
BOB, sorry we missed you at home the other day. How are you feeling and what's going to be done for you to get over this crap already?
PUNKIN, don't even think about these SF foods just now, think about healthy foods and try to allow yourself to detox from all sugars and desires for them-it helps! We have another board member from AUSTIN, TRISH!
TEENSY, what do you do with all this produce when it comes due to pick? Do you freeze, pickle, etc? How'd the rhubarb crisp come out? Hope DH had a nice bday!
TRANQUIL, girl, miss you already - will call you this weekend! I'm eating raspberries and Fiber One with some soy milk today!!!;) Has ZACH been sleeping late???
JEC, hey, ever thought that DD is doubling up on the terribe two's? My sister has the same problem. Her daughter will go get in to trouble full knowing that she's going to get in to more trouble from my sister. I think she does it for attention, granted, there are 3 other sisters in the house and she does want her attention, positive or negative! GOOD LUCK! Had to laugh at your comment Babies are wonderful, and they smell so good. Not when you are changing a poopy diaper, they're not!!! Or when they've spit up!!!!
PANCHO, hope you are feeling better today! Not the way to lose some pounds, but hey, I'd surely take it! Problem is, those pounds always return!
Well, I seem to have caught up, or at least I think I have. If I missed anyone, please forgive me, it's not intentional.
This weekend is the MIAMI CHILDRENS MUSEUM FILM FESTIVAL where MICHAEL has two pieces he's entered. The one documentary he's hoping to win an award. TRANQUIL & ZACH got to see a pre-screening of it:) I'll let you know how that goes!
I will try to get on here this evening. It's going to be hard these next 2 weeks as the kids are preparing for finals and have been working a lot on the computer. Thank goodness we have the laptop, otherwise there would be bigger fights than there already are. If I can't make it on tonight, tomorrow before I go to my Mom's hopefully. I'll do what I can, that's all I can promise. School is over on June 11th. Lots going on between now and then. LAUREN has a banquet, I have a board dinner Tuesday, she has a theater thing sometime next week - Dr. appts, it never ends. TRANQUIL can attest to how I run around and all over town!!!!
Okay, I do have to run - will check in when I can!
Oh, on page 80+ in the book! Has anyone tried to get it yet???

punkin7518 05-29-2003, 11:11 AM Thanks for all the great suggestions. Any tips for detoxing? I would really like to get rid of my cravings for sugar (especially ice cream).
Fillise 05-29-2003, 11:37 AM I have a meeting in a few minutes so this will be quick.
Talitha--um, if you are going to the Harry's at Gwinnett, Monet and I bought all the agave they had on Monday. Sorry. Monet can explain better than I where it is in the store (just past the produce). Maybe they will have put some more out by now--if not be sure to ask for it so they they know there is a demand. I loved the picture of your and the baby--she's so sweet!
I couldn't get on the board yesterday and will try to get on for a longer chat today--but it is a pretty full day, so it may be tomorrow before I see you again. Spa Monet was good for getting me back OP--so hopefully that will stick!
I hope everyone has a good op day!
Susan
jecrites 05-29-2003, 12:08 PM Hello everyone.
I can tell that today is going to be a very trying day. First, when I got up all 3 kids were outside, not a one of them dressed and the 4 yr. old in nothing but her panties and wrapped up in a blanket. One of them had let the cat out. Then my stupid coffee pot is about to break down. The darn thing made my coffee extra slow this morning, actually it didn't even finish making what I had put in there. Hubby has my car (again), and I was going to call him and tell him to bring it to me, but my phone's battery is low, and I thought I had it on the charger all night. I put it back on the charger, and hopefully in a few hours it will be ready to go. Maybe a hot shower will help get things going better.
Melf, I know how it feels to want a baby of the opposite sex. I have 3 girls and was hoping one of the last 2 would have been a boy. I didn't have an ultrasound with the last one, and I wanted so much to hear "it's a boy" when she was born, it was kind of a let down when they told me she was a girl. I got over it though. Hubby just doesn't know how to put the stem on the apple. Just because there will be another boy in the family doesn't mean that you have to do everything in blue too. There's yellow and green and all those "neutral" colors out there. Ask the mom to be what color she would like for the baby. I was so sick of pink by the time the 3rd one came around, I did everything in yellow, and it's one of her favorite colors now!
Deb, Never thought of that. You are probaby right about the doubling up on the terrible twos, it makes sense. I swear all 3 of them do things sometimes just for the attention be it positive or negative. I thought about that baby smelling good thing after I had already posted. What I meant to say was that they smell good after a bath and all that good stuff, the poopy diapers and spit up isn't such a nice thing. My SIL's youngest son spit up a whole 8 oz. bottle, I swear it was at least that much, of breast milk on her when he was 3 months old. It was her hubby's fault, he didn't know how to feed the baby and burp him, so he kept crying and dad kept poking the bottle down him, and you know babies, once too full and need to burp it all comes right back up. Needless to say she was beyond mad .
Ok, I'm off to see if the hot shower will help me any. Talk to y'all later.
Jenn
Ellen 05-29-2003, 02:22 PM Hello everybody!
I slept late, after getting up and getting Tom's stuff ready for him to take to work. Poor dear is going to have to get himself ready for work next week! He leaves at 7am, and I am going to have to leave at 5:45!
Laura and I are heading out to the church office to do some office work in a few. Then I have to stop at the library and the store. Tomorrow, Tom is going to put his truck in the shop, and I will be stranded at home here.
Out of curiousity, I hopped on the scale this morning. I was down six pounds from yesterday! Amazing! Only four more to go! haha!
TALITHA: The agave is over near the honey in Gwinnett's Harry's so I imagine the others put it in the same place. If you don't see it, ask. They can get it for you. Loved the pictures!
