Debelli 04-21-2003, 07:24 AM GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!
Will post my usual morning post sometime later, but wanted to make sure I got our
MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY done early in the morning, so here's my contribution for MM, there's 2 of them to read today, I REALLY like the first one in particular:

ALL IN GOOD TIME
Time is the canvas upon which the great experience of life is rendered. Too often we look at time as if it were an enemy, but it is certainly not.
If your dreams were to be instantly fulfilled they would not be worth attaining, for it is through time that their value is created and lived. If your troubles were to be instantly erased, they would serve no positive purpose.
Think for a moment of what a blessing it is that the experiences in your life are laid out over time. Each experience takes time to complete, and because of that you're able to savor its richness more fully.
Certainly it can be frustrating when the fulfillment of your dream seems a long way off. But imagine how much more terribly frustrating it would be if your whole life happened at once, with no time to separate the experiences from one another.
The things you sincerely and earnestly seek will come to you, all in good time. And as they come with the passage of time, you'll have the time to fully live and delight in each one.
-- Ralph Marston

YOUR OWN PATH
There are countless pathways that lead to success and fulfillment. So it makes very little sense to try and squeeze yourself onto the same pathway as everyone else.
There is virtually no limit to the number of ways in which your dream can be reached. And there's certainly no reason to give up on that dream if just one of the most obvious ways is blocked. By using the slightest amount of creativity and imagination, you can get around just about any obstacle. You can fashion your own special, one-of-a-kind pathway to success.
There is much that you can learn from the achievements of others. However, you cannot count on being able to simply imitate the success of someone else. Instead, learn from the success of others and integrate it into your life in your own unique way. There's no need to push and shove your way onto the most obvious and most crowded roads that lead to success.
Always, there is another way, a creative, innovative way that's just right for you. Figure out what it is, follow it with all you have, and enjoy the success that will surely come as a result.

The Quilter 04-21-2003, 09:19 AM Monday Morning
Hello, y'all!!! Hey sorry to be AWOL this weekend and most of last week. We were out of town for the holiday weekend and just got back last night. My eating was pretty good over the weekend. I discovered how much I really enjoy oats. Yum!!! I sure hope they are legal. Says 100%ww on the label and the word instant is not where around. Is that the right kind?
Gotta head out for work. I hope we all have a GREAT week and that we can feel really good about our efforts. I have something for motivation, but will have to post it later.
Hugs to you all!!!
Kim
Ellen 04-21-2003, 09:47 AM Morning!
I slept like a rock last night, and did not even hear the alarm. I am planning on going on a treasure hunt today for whole wheat matzos. There are two Kosher grocery stores a bit a drive from here, and they both have them, I am told. If I can't find them around here, I will drive there. I am determined to make the Matzo ball soup legally. Everyone here loves it!
QUILTER: I am so glad to see your post! I was beginning to worry about you, since you had not been on in a while. I missed you!
I have been playing on here, and have not had breakfast yet, so guess I will go find some.... later!
Rosalie 04-21-2003, 10:09 AM Good Morning All
Hope everyone had a good weekend. I had a good day yesterday at my dd's. I thought I did fairly well eating. I had turkey, green peas, cole slaw, green salad. I had no bread and no scolloped potatoes although I did have some of the homemade turkey dressing and a little trifle for dessert. Also had fresh fruit for dessert. Oh, I almost forgot I did have two small oatmeal cookies that my dil had made. I just had to sample them. They were nice and crunchie so will be trying out the recipe soon. If mine turn out crunchie I will post the recipe.
Deb - Sorry to hear about your Dad having to go back to the hospital. Hope he is o.k.
Have to nip out to the store for a few things. I'll be off to badminton this afternoon - missed going Friday because of the holiday. This evening I am going to my dil's Mom's for another turkey dinner. Hope I can resist the bread and potatoes again. I haven't been on the scale for a few days, trying to resist until WIW, maybe longer, see how I feel on Wednesday. I've been eating well the past week and am feeling good but am afraid to weigh in case there is no change, then I would feel pissed and may start stuffing again.
Bye for now.
Marie.
Debelli 04-21-2003, 10:37 AM Good Monday Morning All:wave:
Whew! Just got in from my walk/jog and I'm sweating and stinking up a storm! Was a good one though, did my 4.5 miles in 51:02, haven't seen a time like that in a while.
Here's the latest on my Dad. For those of you who are newer to the board, my Dad had blood clots in his leg last summer and was in the hospital for weeks. Due to his surgery he just had for colon cancer he was off the cumadin to thin his blood. Yesterday, it seemed out of the blue that it happened, his leg started to swell up and he was in excruciating pain. Well, blood clots seemed to had formed again like last summer and my Mom knew what was going on and called 911. They transported him back to the hospital he just go out of last Thursday. Just was on an I/M with my Mom and she said that they didn't get him in a semi-private room until 2am and that the Dr. was very worried about the leg because they didn't get that strong a pulse. That he'd be in there for 3 or 4 days. I'll go up there after my yoga class and before I have to p/u MICHAEL at school today (LAUREN has to stay til 9pm).
This weekend there weren't a ton of garage sales but I managed to do quite well at the few I was able to hit. I got a 19" Phillips color TV with remote for $5. I works but I think the tube may be going due to it taking a little time to get a picture, but the girl says this is how it always was, though I doubt it, but for $5, I bought it. Best thing was a cordless mouse and cordless Logitech keyboard, brand new in the box for $5-MICHAEL is in absolute heaven with it! Got an antenna for outside for LAUREN'S room, she has the worst reception and all the rabbit ears I've bought don't help a bit. It will cost more than the $2 I paid for it to have it installed properly! Couple cookbooks, a few odds and ends, nothing else exciting.
Want to get in a few replies before I have to take off for my yoga class today...
MONET, LOL! I didn't get to read the FF you posted til just now. They were really good and cute! THANKS! I needed to laugh this morning! Sounds like you had a wonderful Seder! Better than mine! LOL! Did you recite the prayers in Hebrew as they have them printed phonetically in the booklets? Did you use a real Seder plate? Did Elijah come and visit? Seriously, it sounds like a great experience! When my Uncle Joe was alive many, many years ago it would go on for hours and hours, we hated it! Hopefully next year we'll have our act together. I love matzah balls soup. Did you make it from a mix or from scratch? Did anyone make the egg soup? Every loves it but it's just eggs, water and salt! Why did you sit on the floor? We never did that! And, not only do they make ww matzah, BUT, I have a recipe for matzah as well and in fact, just told MICHAEL that I would make some!!!! It seems easy enough that even I can do it!
BOB, old girl, so how was your Easter birthday yesterday? How are you feeling? Hope better! Give us the lowdown!!!! Hey, don't EVER underestimate the bargain queen of Miami!!!!
TRANQUIL, thought about you yesterday as I was wolfing down falafel. When you and ZACH come down we will have to hit El Salam one of the days!!!! Hope this week is less stressful for you!
TEENSY, my condolences to your family on their loss and to your Dad with his partner. Hope DH continues to improve. I think my DM can sympathize with you as she just had my Dad home a few days out of the hospital. Bad way to get a break from him again, but he'll be back to irk the crap out of her again in a few days! ;)
LIN, how did STEVEN like his Easter basket goodies? Def. does sound like an interesting variety of items there! Fast? Oh gosh, no! I walk and jog. I think one of my fastest times was just under 45 minutes. Today wasn't bad, but I've definitely gotten slower, esp. when it's hot. Hope you were able to get some shut eye finally!
ROSALIE, how'd the bagels turn out??? Which recipe did you end up using?
Have you ever tried to make pretzels??? Looking forward to hearing about your oatmeal cookies. I love them crisp OR soft but haven't made them but maybe once since I started SB. Enjoy your day playing badminton, hope you win!:D
ZANNE, you like FA too? We remember when you couldn't find it here in the States. When we went to Europe we brought home a bunch of stuff. Was happy when we were finally able to find some of the stuff here, though it's still hard to find some of their items. Have you ever tried to make a legal carrot cake? I like carrot cake too and hope to one day try my hand at making a legal one as I have many recipes for them.
JANE, good going with no beer! Tell is about the pizza you made? How'd the dough taste? Was that your intention to make pizza when you whipped up the dough? Would it be a good dough to do pretzels with? I think it's wonderful that you go to the BM to cheer on the runners. I know it means a lot to them!!!!!!:D
SEF, vacuuming and make the beds?? Girl, you're the bomb. Thanks for reminding me what I have to put on my to do list today. Not that I'll do them, just said I had to put them on my list;)
FILLISE, hope you enjoy your last couple days with your family. I think it's wonderful how you are holding steadfast to this WOE and not giving in to eating off plan for anyone, even DM. Why she would be so gung-ho for you to eat a piece of cake just doesn't make sense with knowing you are on this WOE. ELI does the same all the time but I don't give in, that is, unless I've already given in and am so off plan already, then, he doesn't have to prod me hard at all! I haven't eaten off plan in almost 4 weeks now, not a single thing of any kind, not even legal stuff! Let me know if you think about it next year when that film festival rolls around again, he'd love to submit a piece anywhere he could.:D
COUNTRY, congrats to DS for his "big catch!" Did you take a pic of him with JAWS?? Congrats to the little one as well for snagging his first bass. But, fish for Easter breakfast? What the heck, or should I say, how the heck did you serve that for breakfast????:?:
SHEANNE, wow, I think that is so cool that you pick a country and make foods for the holiday from that country!!! How'd it all turn out?
JACKK, here's hoping your sister finds the success you have with SB. Girl, you are sounding like you're a mess with all these burns and cuts! Be careful!!!!
QUILTER, what brand of oats did you get? I'm sure if they weren't instant they are the rolled oats which are fine. Just remember portion control. Did you put anything in with them?
Well, I'm outta here. I do believe I've caught up now. It helped with not having too many Easter day posts to get the job done. If I did miss anyone, it wasn't intentional, I promise.
Have a wonderful week everyone!!!

Fillise 04-21-2003, 10:44 AM Hello all from sunny NC!
I did ok for Easter, but not perfect. I had a roll with lunch and some potato chips with dinner (in the spirit that I had to break the lenten fast somehow). I DID NOT have any of the cake! So far this morning, I'm back on track.
Over the next six weeks, I'm going to show gratitude for all my blessings by only feeding my body what is good for it--with one exception--Derby Day! That's my next challenge. This weekend will be tough as I have a retreat with my SR. High youth Friday night. I will have to be sure to take some legal snacks for me!
Marie--Please don't let the scale throw you off! You know you are doing ok with your eating--so let that be your guide, not the numbers on the scale!
Monet--When you get the WW matzos, please post the recipe, I'm curious now!
Kim--Oats are fine as long as they are not the instant! Good to hear from you!
I have no idea what we are planning to do today. We all sort of collapsed after the nieces left yesterday. I head for home tomorrow--I need to get there because I'm really missing Belle!
Have a great Op day everyone!
Susan
Fillise 04-21-2003, 10:48 AM Hey Deb--we were posting at the same time! I hope your DD is doing better this morning--he's really had a right time of it lately! I'll let you know about the film festival next fall.
Susan
Tranquil 04-21-2003, 11:05 AM Good Morning Everyone!
Today will be a stressful one and then the rest of the week should be a breeze, boss going out of town. Weather is wonderful here, DS is home with his dad today since there is no school....I am glad - they can have some fun together.
Meanwhile, I must get going - just wanted to check in - trying to keep online and on program....
Did you see that Hershey's Reeses come in Sugar Free now? They were part of the Easter Basket given to me by my Gram...
Take care all! Have an OP Monday if I don't get a chance to stop back in though I will do my best to keep current.
Sabrina
Debelli 04-21-2003, 11:21 AM THIS WEEKS CHALLENGE:
Just for one day, journal EVERYTHING (food wise) that enter's your mouth. Weigh, measure and write. I know, many of you don't like doing it, but just one day won't kill you!!!
Anyone game?
If you need help in finding info on a certain food I recommend www.CALORIEKING.COM as one of my choices (I do have others though if needed).
So, pick a day, any day this week - it may be an eye-opener for many:eek:
music teach 04-21-2003, 11:53 AM Nobody faint! I know I've been AWOL for quite a while but here I am again. I've been extremely bad and managed to gain quite a bit of weight back. :( I have discovered, like many of you, that this WOE is the only way to manage my weight. I don't really know what got me off track in the first place, but I'm determined to get back on the wagon and stay there. I also plan on spending more time here with all of you. I've been away so long that I'm really behing on what's been going on in all your lives. All my crew is doing well. Dennis is still able to work. His diabetes is really affecting him tho and he's finally decided he needs to see a specialist. I've been telling him that for a while now. Now I have to find one that's on our insurance. The kids are well too. I hope I can catch up with all of you. Missed you and I'm glad to be back.
BOBatwork 04-21-2003, 11:58 AM Morning Every Buddy,
Wanted to share the following with you...Trust you all had a Happy Easter and enjoyed your families..
WHERE GOD WANTS ME
>One day I happened to call a man on business whom I
>didn't know, have not - nor will probably ever talk to
>again. But this day, he felt like talking. He was
>head of security at a company that had invited the
>remaining members of a company who had been decimated
>by the attack on the Twin Towers to share their office
>space. With his voice full of awe, he told me stories
>of why these people were alive and their counterparts
>were dead. All the stories were just little things.
>You might know about the head of the company who got
>in late that day because his son started kindergarten.
>Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to
>bring donuts. There were other stories that I hope and
>pray will someday be gathered and put in a book.
>The one that struck me was the man who put on a new
>pair of shoes that morning. He took the various means
>to get to work, but before he got there, he developed
>a blister on his foot. He stopped at a drugstore to
>buy a Band-Aid. That is why he is alive.
>Now when I am stuck in traffic, miss an elevator,
>turn back to answer a ringing telephone ... all the
>little things that annoy me ... I think to myself,
>this is exactly where God wants me to be at this
>very moment.
>May God continue to bless you with all those annoying
>little things.
BOB
Rosalie 04-21-2003, 12:07 PM Deb - I used your recipe for the bagels, same one as before, except I used spelt flour and added some flax seeds. They came out much the same as the last ones although I preferred the ones with the whole wheat. Even though I used the regular yeast this time and gave them two risings they were still very flat. I took them out when I thought they were done, they were brown and crispy on top and passed the 'done' test - hollow sound when tapped on the bottom - but when I cut into them they were still a little doughy inside so put them back in the oven for another 10 minutes. I think I will forget about making bagels. I did make some nice peanut butter oatmeal cookies a couple of days ago which were good, except they got a bit too dark on the bottom. I only ate a couple of those and the rest are in the freezer. I'll probably post that recipe later but I want to make them again first (without burning the bottoms). I'm so good at burning the bottom of my cookies, even when I am sitting there watching them. One minute they look like they are not done and 30 seconds later the darn things are burnt. Maybe I will be successful one day! I'll take you up on that challenge. I'm going to try it to-day. Maybe that will help to keep me in line this evening at my dil's Mom's where I am going for another turkey dinner. If I do screw up too bad I'll just do it tomorrow instead.
Fillise - Good for you not giving in to that cake.
Gotta go and get an early lunch as I have to be out before noon.
Marie.
Solly 04-21-2003, 12:09 PM Good Monday Morning.
Hope everyone is ready to jump back on track today (if you ventured off over the holiday). It's a new week, a new beginning to a nice result. A healthy, thinner you!
Sat up with DD's last night picking out songs for the Dj. It was a hoot. DD was singing all the songs and they sounded all alike. She likes strange music. The other one wouldn't let her have half the songs she wanted. It was so funny b/c I didn't know hardly any of them. I guess you had to be there, but I think it was a Kodak moment. We don't have too many moments with them together that they are not fighting.
So I went to bed around 11:30 wound up of course and didn't fall asleep until after 1:30. So I'm dragging today.
Kim, we missed you last week. Glad you are back. Yes oats are legal, 1/2 cup uncooked. Just not instant.
Monet, I'm sure you will be able to adapt the matzos ball soup if anyone can. Hope your journey to find them is short.
Rosalie, Have fun at badminton. Don't worry about that scale.
Deb, You must have been joggign this morning. That is a great time. Hope your dad will be ok. Man that is scarry. My DH has huge varicose veins on his one leg. I mean they hang in clumps. It really worries me that he will have a blood clot or stroke from them. Of course he doesn't want to go see about them. As ususal you got some great bargains this weekend. I bet Michael is exctied with that keyboard and mouse. OK I'll do the challenge, but can't do it until tomorrow cause I have eaten already today (cashews that I didn't measure). I'm even gonna count calories too.
Fillise, Good for you doing so well at Easter dinner. You're not alone, I had a handful of chips too. They are my downfall. There is half a bag left. I may just have to pitch them so I'm not tempted. I know you can make it fine to Derby Day. Even though you plan to splurge, I bet it's not too bad. Other than those mint juleps!
Tranquil, Get through today and then we will be with you more the remainder of the week.
Bob, Hope you had a nice birthday.
Have a great day. Be back later.
Jackie

TVthatsME 04-21-2003, 12:12 PM Good morning everyone!
Had a good weekend here in N. AL. Weather was perfect. My oldest DS caught 2 fly balls in his ballgame on Sat (first time ever catching even 1) and the little DS won his ballgame on Sat, 20-2.
I'm working on choking down the last little bit of water in my 32 oz cup. Not bad, seeing as it is only 10ish this morning.
Didn't do to well on eating at our Easter lunch at Mom's yesterday, but didn't really overdo. I made a corn casserole per a special request from my nephew. It was really good so it was hard not to eat too much. I also made him a cherry cobbler, but didn't have a problem with leaving it off because I don't like it. Back on track this morning…
DH seems to be much better after the shot. He is really tickled and holding out hope that this will do the trick.
Jack K - You sound like me in the kitchen yesterday. I burned my hand, caught potholders on fire and cut my finger too.
Deb - sure hope they are able to dissolve that clot before too long. Be sure to keep us updated.
Bob - Glad to see you feeling better.
No time for more now - gotta get to work.
Cya,
Teresa
jecrites 04-21-2003, 12:29 PM Good morning everyone!
Well my parents have left, hubby is back at work, but the kids are still here. They had a 4 day weekend that the school is calling their "spring break." Kind of strange to me since they normally have a whole week out, oh well, they are supposed to get out earlier than they would have if we hadn't moved.
Had a pretty good weekend with my parents. We were gone all day Friday, stayed home half of Saturday and then was gone the rest of the day, went to church yesterday and was home the rest of the day. Everyone was really tired yesterday.
I haven't had a chance to read the posts from last week that I missed, but I'll get to it sometime. I can tell already that these kids are gonna make me pull out my hair today. I'll be glad when they go back to school tomorrow.
Ok, just wanted to pop my head in and say hello to everyone so you all would know I survived the weekend. Now off to eat some breakfast and catch up on what I've missed. See y'all later.
Jenn
BOBatwork 04-21-2003, 12:30 PM WORK QUICKIE.....
JACKIE.....OMG.....Cathy, Greg and little Jay go to SouthEast Christian...they went Saturday night and then Greg went Sunday Morning to help with the parking...Is that where you go?
BOB
Tranquil 04-21-2003, 03:35 PM Well Deb I will try to take your challenge today:
I had a sourdough english muffin with a T. of sf peanut butter for breakfast...toasted to a charred crisp :) Lunch, I had a greek salad - which consisted of lettuce (spring greens only) my guess would be 2 cups, probably 5 olives, 2 very small peppers, 4 thin slices of roma tomatoes, a little tiny plastic serving of balsamic vinaigrette (3 T tops), and two rings of red onion slices....with a diet coke.....(32 oz diet coke)....I also had an unsweet tea with breakfast....(6 oz)....and then I popped a piece of sf reeses peanut butter cup in my mouth from Easter basket....
Such a pretty day out, wish I was off today with my ds! Wish he and I were having a playdate!!!! Oh well, wishes, wishes!
Hope everyone is having a good day!
Sabrina

Ellen 04-21-2003, 04:25 PM I am happy to report I found the whole wheat matzos at the Kroger near me. It looks like a regular item for them, but I got two boxes anyway. I made matzo ball soup for my daughter for lunch, and ate some. I did not use the ww ones, but the mix. Bad Monet! They are made with regular white flour matzos. I put in a lot of veggies to make it healthy.
I am still feeling a bit yucky. Not sure if I should blame it on my medication, or a bug. Wish it would clear up though.
My son is still waiting to hear about the job he interviewed for. I wish they would hurry up and decide. The man he interviewed with on Thursday said he was definitely going to get one of the two jobs open. Guess they are just taking their time about making up their minds.
I need to take a nap, so I better get to it. I will check in later!

sheanne 04-21-2003, 04:28 PM Hi everone,
Today is cold and overcast here (50s it think). I feel like crawling back under the covers :)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY HEARTMOM!!!
Deb: I hope all is going ok with your Dad. If it's not one thing it's another to worry about. The Easter Dinner turned out well. I prepared most of what I could and had the meat marinating the day before. The only thing is I ate too much and am retaining fluid from the sauces (way to much sodium). I wanted to get your opinion on something. The nutritionist has only given me 6 oz of protein a day. Now it seems like way to little to me. If I have a boiled egg, then that's 1oz of protein or 2 teaspoons of peanut butter, that's an ounce there too. If I have 4 oz for dinner, then that's it. It has been difficult. I'm trying not to have but 1 or 2 starcy carbs and combined with the 6oz of protein, that leaves me only vegetables and fruit. I love veggies and fruit but .. it feels like the balance is not quite right to me. I would appreciate your input before I call and ask her about it. I'll take the challenge and record what goes into my mouth. I have to do it everyday anyway.
Quilter: I love oats too, but only with sliced apple and a tsp of nuts in it.
Rosalie: It sounds like you had a great weekend. Keep up the good work and enjoy your badminton today.
Fillise: Glad to hear that you had a wonderful Easter and that you pretty much ate OP. I know that you will do fine with your next challenge too.
Tranquil: Wish I had some of your great weather. It's cold and rainy here.
Music Teach: Glad to have you back. I did the same thing and gained back 20 pounds. But everyone here is so motivating that it helps me keep on the straight and narrow.
Bob: Thank you for the narrative. It is so true. We all sometimes forget in the everyday rush of our lives. Hope that you feel better today and hope your birthday was awsome.
Jack-K: Memories are made from those "Kodak Moments". You'll hold it close to you always. Sorry about the lack of sleep though.
TV: Great news about your DS winning his game and his part in it all by cathcing 2 fly balls. I'll bet you were so proud. Glad your DH is doing better after the shot. Be sure to hold onto something so you don't float away after drinking all that water before 10 :)
Jecrites: Sounds like you had a really busy weekend and that you'll have one today as well.
Well, I'll be back later. Hope everyone has a great day.
Sheanne
slimkat 04-21-2003, 04:32 PM Hello everyone, I would like to join your support group. My husband recently lost 25 lbs. on Atkins, I have lost 10 lbs. on WW, and my teen daughter is a vegetarian. Planning meals has become a nightmare...in fact, I shut down and it has been a free-for all around here. My husband picked up the Sugar-Busters book last week and said he would like to make the switch. My daughter also said she is interested in the SB way of eating. I read the first book a few years ago, but it was too hard to follow with the family eating all kinds of foods. So, I am jumping on the SB bandwagon! I am looking forward to sanity in the kitchen and cooking the same meal for all. So out goes the Easter candy and hear come the Triscuits. I know that in the beginning it will be a process of what works for us, at least we are all on the same page. Well, first I am going for my walk, then off to the store. By the way, I am planning on losing another 12 lbs. before I switch to a maintenance mode. Kathy P.S. Where is the post reply button?
jeshinn 04-21-2003, 05:04 PM Hi Everyone....I'm new here and hope I'm doing this right. I just started SB two weeks ago and have been successful thus far. I've been wondering about malitol. Is this ok to have? I've been eating sugar free products with it and am not 100% it's ok. I have a killer sweet tooth and everything "sweet" seems to have malitol in it. Thanks for your help and best of luck to everybody!
Julie
Solly 04-21-2003, 05:38 PM Whew! what a day. Busy, busy, crazy.
Glad it's over. Heading home to do whatever. Run errands, cook, tan, workout etc.
TV, sounds like you have some little athletes coming up. Oh I also caught my oven on fire when I tried to self-clean it. I'm dangerous in the kitchen.
Jecrites, hang in there tomorrow will come soon and they will be back in school.
Bob, No I go to a catholic church not far from SEC's old church. That place is so big. I love it when people call it 6 flags over Jesus.
Tranquil, man you jumped right on in there with the challenge. Good for you.
Monet, Hope you shake whatever that has a hold on you. Feel better.
Music, you were posting as I was and I missed your post. I’m so glad you are back with us. We have missed you. Will SB help your DH with his diabetes? Hope you stay with us now.
Slimcat, Welcome to our group. It is a great one. It will be nice that your whole family is on the WOE. It is easy and so easy to cook for too.
Jeshinn, Welcome to you also. Malitol is something you should avoid until you are way under way with the WOE. It will only cause cravings and you need to rid your system of all sugar. Also it can keep you close to the potty if you get my drift.
You all have a great night.

Greetings Ladies
Hi..said I'd be back and here I am. Looks like todays the day for making changes!
Hope you all had a nice Easter..4 day break here with Fri and Mon as holidays too. School holidays here again and my brother and family are visiting from out of town so that's a nice change for us all.
I've been thinking over the weekend about Motivational Monday and what motivates me. I think that my too big motivators are my family in particular my 3 children and you guys! That's why I need to refocus and keep coming back here to share the ups and downs. Thank you and :hugs:
I know what doesn't motivate me at the moment and that's the scales! I'm going to hide them for a while until I feel I'm ready to deal with them.
DEB I love your Motivational Monday items..I've saved them.
Sorry to hear about your Dad. My Mum had a problem with clots some years ago after a minor op and ended up with one in her lung..we are lucky to still have her. Thru that we have discovered a family genetic trait that makes us prone to clots so major panics when I've been pregnant! Mum made a full recovery after a prolonged time on wharferin. I'll take up the journal challenge..not today cos I've got behind already but I will for the rest of the week..I hate to think what that will show up!
MUSIC TEACH You and I are both returning to the fold! Welcome back to you and let's both get stuck in and get on with it!
SLIMCAT..JESHINN Welcome.. you couldn't meet a lovlier bunch of ladies anywhere!
Hope everyone has a super day. The sun is shinning here and I'm feeling up and ready to attack the day I even had washing on the line before 8am today!
Catch you all later
Anna
The Quilter 04-21-2003, 06:30 PM Hello everybody!
Well, I made it through most of Monday. That's got to stand for something. I have an Altrusa board meeting tonight. (Did I tell you all they want me to be Recording Secretary?) It's a dinner meeting. I heard through the grapevine that we're having pizza, so I'm taking my leftover lunch. I hate to be rude, but no telling what that pizza will be like.
DEB---So sorry to hear that your dad had to be rushed back in to the hospital. I sure am hoping and praying that they get him all fixed up. Was he doing pretty well until the clotting started? Thank goodness your mom was one smart cookie and realized what was going on. Be sure and keep us posted. Thanks for the motivations. They are great! As usual, Ralphie baby doesn't let us down. I think the oats are from Quaker. I checked the entire box and no where on it did it say instant and it did say 100% whole. They sure are yummy. Paul even ate them both days this weekend. That surprised the heck out of me. Be assured that I took my food scale with me this weekend and weighed out the correct portion of oats. You know I'm already doing your challenge. No problem there for me. In fact, I just had to start a new notebook, because I've already filled one up. That was fun looking back and then transferring things over.
MONET----Hi! Thanks for missing me. I feel so bad when I can't get on and talk to everybody. It's good to get back with you all even if it was just for a couple of days. WTG on finding the matzos. You know Kroger is BOB's favorite store and she's very jealous of those of us who have them at our disposal. A couple of years ago, I was going to try and get her a Kroger Plus card, but I didn't want to get in trouble for forgery.
FILLISE---I love your idea of feeding your body healthily in honor of all your blessings. I think life works so much better when we focus on all the things that are going well and how good we have it. How's your mom feeling? I missed out on any reports you may have given last week.
BOB---I loved your post so much this morning that I printed it off for everybody in our office. That's such a beautiful mindset. Thanks for getting us on the right foot on a Monday morning. BTW, I know that church you are talking about. I've been there before. It's monstrously huge. The minister who does the preaching is really great.
JACKK---Boy, I'll bet your new skinny hiney was dragging today. That's late to be up on a Sunday night. I have nights like that too where I am so keyed up. Can't get my brain to stop working and start sleeping. I hope you can relax tonight, but I'm afraid that's probably not a possibility for "mother of the bride." Let's face it, my friend, your life is not your own until after this big shindig!!!
SHEANN---I know what you mean about crawling back under the covers when it's cold and icky. I spent most of the winter fighting that urge in the mornings. LOL. Your oats idea sounds good. I'll have to try it. I put some berries in mine over the weekend. That was good too. But I like the idea of nuts adding more protein.
SLIMKAT & JESHINN----Welcome, welcome, welcome!!! You will get a lot of help and support here. So many people on this board really know the program and do so well with it. If you have questions, feel free to ask. Just think that many other people want to know the answer to the question you ask and are too hesitant to ask. On this board, all questions are okay!
Okay, I think I'm caught up. Here's my motivational thought for today. I read an article in Good Housekeeping. It was spotlighting a book called Flip the Switch by Jim Karas. Here's how the article started. First with an anonymous quote and them some thoughts from the author.
"THOUGH NO ONE CAN GO BACK IN TIME AND MAKE A BRAND NEW START, ANYONE CAN START FROM NOW AND MAKE A BRAND-NEW ENDING."
I've always liked this quote. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I stop and realize that although there is nothing I can do to erase the past, I can start at this point and lay groundwork for the future. You can do the same.
End of quote
Kim talking again now. I know we've all heard this, but I think it bears repeating. Especially on a Monday. The rest of the article talked about 9 tenets he thinks all people trying to lose weight and get healthy should take on. If you want I will add them later. The magazine wasn't mine so I could just take notes. It's the January 2003 issue of GH if anybody's interested. Also I'd like to check out the book. I think it's about getting to that place where we choose to flip a switch and really have our efforts work this time.
Okay, off to my meeting. Take care. I'll check in tomorrow.
Kim
Jenn in MN 04-21-2003, 06:36 PM Hi everyone, thank you for the kind replies and welcome-backs. I had forgotten how friendly and supportive everyone is here! (Bad me!)
I did well this weekend up until Easter dinner at my in-law's house. Dan's aunt makes this killer "apple salad". I don't know all of what's in it, but it's sure not legal. Then came the desserts. Worst of all, they gave us a "doggie bag". When I got home and unpacked it, there was beef and pork (ok), mashed potatoes and gravy (not ok), and someone had put a whole, unopened 1/2 gallon of Rocky Road ice cream in there!!!! AAAARGH! So needless to say I'm not too thrilled to have bad stuff in the house, especially when I'm just starting back on this WOE and am still struggling. *sigh*
Anyhow, to answer Deb's question, I am enjoying married life. It is really nice and comforting to snuggle to sleep every night with my DH. Life isn't a bed of roses, but it's easier when the burden is shared.
Deb - sorry about your Dad and the blood clots. I'll be thinking good thoughts for him!
Welcome jeshinn and slimkat!
Oh, one last question... Is SB safe during pregnancy? I may need that information soon. :o
ttfn,
Jenn
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 04-21-2003, 07:13 PM Jenn,
Yes it's safe for "Mommy's TO BE" Are you trying to tell us something?
So glad you're back...
I'll check in later..
BOB
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 04-21-2003, 07:49 PM It's official...SKEETER doesn't feel good...I took a tissue to clean ou his eyes, and the little $h:eek:t bit me! He punctured my index finger....
BOB
heartmom 04-21-2003, 09:09 PM My eating has been so horrible!! I haven't ever ate as much as I have since Saturday- even during the holidays. Saturday was Boogie's party. I was doing okay with the sf buns and using triscuits instead of chips- but I ended up eating 3 pieces of cake!! So I was up 2 pounds Sunday morning. Then we ate Easter dinner(and supper)- everything was a big NO-NO! Well, I don't know what happened to me- I just went crazy and pigged out on homemade macaroni, ham, candied yams, banana pudding, cheesecake, potato salad, etc.... I woke up today the big puff marshmellow woman. My eyes are puffy slits, my fingers, ankles, feet and tummy are swollen. Did I get back on the wagon today- NOOOOO! I ended up eating chips and cookies and easter candy. Help!!! I don't think I've ever binged like this. I'm up so many pounds. I know some is fluid but the majority isn't. And just when I hit a new low of 192.5! Now it will probably take me 2 weeks to see that # again. I feel so bad. Okay, I'm thru ranting and venting. Tomorrow is a new day and I WILL BE 100% back OP!! I just know that now I have to go through a sugar detox again and the next 3 days are going to be hard. Anyway- Boogie had a wonderful bday party. I've never seen a kid get so much stuff! I'll post some bday photos when they come back. Tomorrow is my bday and that always puts me in a bad mood. There's several reasons why- being older, it brings back memories of Boogie almost not making it,etc and I've had alot of crap happen on my bday like chicken pox, flu, even my parents forget my bday! Man, am I b*tchy today, lol. Just overlook me guys- I'll be better in a couple of days- see what sugar does to ya?
JENN- glad to hear from you(it's about time, lol)
BOB- Happy belated Birthday wishes!
TVthatsME 04-21-2003, 09:14 PM Wow - can you believe that I'm logging in from home?!?!?
Just wanted to catch up. Fixing a kinda late supper, been busy doing laundry...
DH says his knee hasn't hurt at all today... I'm so glad:)
However, I've just now got that little feeling that one of those headaches is coming on. Feeling a little pulsating in that same spot on the right side of my forehead. I'm going to give it a little more time and if it still feels like its coming or getting worse, I guess I'll try the new meds. Its been 1 week today since my last one :^:
Gotta run and get DS's pizza out of the oven.
Cya,
Teresa

Is SugarBusters for me?
Hi all:
I am brand new to the forum, and have been reading posts for awhile (very impressed with the board and members).
I had a baby last year, and finally decided to drop this post-pregnancy weight. I have been on Atkins for 2 months, and have lost 11 pounds, but cannot eat like this another day. I ordered the SugarBusters book, and am anxiously waiting for it. My question is: if I am going from such a strict regimen to a more lenient way of eating...do you think I will actually gain weight or can I successfully lose? I love the idea of more vegetables and fruit as well as the whole grain idea. I have 10 more pounds to lose to reach my very realistic weight goal (130 lbs).
Any/all info. any of you can provide will be wonderful. I think I already understand the basics, but am waiting for the book so I can read it.
Do I understand that you can eat as many veggies as you want? I know fruit and carbs are limited, and that's fine. Some is more than none, which is what I am getting now.
What about sugar-free candies (when you just have to have something), as well as sugar-free drinks and protein drinks. I have Keto protein mix here, and drink that for breakfast sometimes. Is that legal on SugarBusters?
I know...I'm probably premature asking all these questions, and the book will probably answer a lot of these questions, but I figured, you can't know too much!
Thanks to all, and I look forward to posting more when I start this woe.
Debelli 04-21-2003, 09:19 PM QUICKIE, don't have time to post, but will have all the time tomorrow morning, at least that I know of. Don't think ELI is off tomorrow, if he isn't you'll be hearing from me in the AM hours.
Night!
Deb
Ellen 04-21-2003, 11:06 PM Hey, Heartmom, I can relate. I got a box of whole wheat matzos and ate half of them this afternoon! I did well at supper, but had some Carr's whole wheat crackers after dinner with peanut butter. I definitely ate too many starchy carbs today. I feel rather bloated and kind of depressed. Someone gave me a handful of pictures from my birthday party and I look so horrible in all of them! I feel like I am not making much progress, and it is frustrating. Then I go and eat a bunch of whole wheat matzos... grrr. At least everything I ate today was legal.
We did some target practice tonight. I am going to have to buy new arrows soon. They are ruining the ones I have missing the target and losing them in the huge clumps of monkey grass at the back of the yard! I feel like I am making progress though. And it is a good workout for the shoulders and arms.
I am really tired, so I am going to go climb in bed. Will catch up tomorrow....
sheanne 04-22-2003, 12:58 AM Evening everyone,
Just thought I'd check in before I go to bed and catch up.
Slimkat: Welcome! I'm glad to hear that things will be easier for you in your household. Any questions, just ask. Everyone here is really great.
Jeshinn: Welcome! About the Malitol, I will let someone more knowledgeable about it answer that one.
Anna: Glad to have you back and that you are having a great time with your family visiting.
Quilter: Don't blame you for not risking the pizza and taking your lunch. Very smart. Love you motivational quote too.
Jenn: Glad you had a good Easter but I don't know how you're gonna survive the temptation of Rocky Road ice cream. It's one of my favorites. Makes my mouth water just saying it :)
Bob: Sorry Skeeter doesn't feel good. My dog used to get cranky that way when he felt bad too.
Heartmom: Don't beat yourself up about all the NO-NOs. Tomorrow is another day and like Quilter's motivational quote says: "Though no one can go back in time and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending".
TV: Hope the new meds work for the headache.
Pancho: Welcome to Sugar Busters! I'm sure that all your questions will be answered by the more knowledgeable ladies here.
Monet: Hope you have a good night.
Well, it's late and I have to be up early. Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.
Sheanne
Rosalie 04-22-2003, 01:07 AM Evening All
This is what I had to eat to-day:
Breakfast: 2 slices Ezekial bread (30 gms), 1/2 tsp. cream cheese, 1/2 oz. gouda, 2 tspn sf fruit spread, coffee x 2 with 1.5 oz. 10% cream.
Lunch: 2 eggs, scrambled in 1 tspn butter, 1/4 medium red pepper, 1/2 tomato, 1 green onion, 1/4 cup green peas.
Snack: 1/2 cup canned pears in juice, 1 oz cheddar cheese, instant coffee made with 8 oz 2% milk and 1/2 tspn. coffee.
Dinner: 4 oz. roast beef, 4 oz. turkey, 1/2 cup cooked carrots, 1/2 cup green peas, 1 1/2 cup salad greens, 1/2 cup turkey dressing, 2 tspn. cranberry sauce, 5 oz. red wine, coffee with 1 oz. 2% milk, 2 chocolate bunnies the size of a small choc. square.
8 oz 2% milk with 1 tbsp. ovaltine (this is my nightcap - will have it just before going to bed).
64 oz. water
Music Teach - Welcome back to the fold. Just jump right back on that wagon.
Jack-K - Did your dd's finally decide what songs to have for the dj? Sounds like they had a great time together.
Monet - Hope you are feeling better soon. This yucky feeling you have seems to have gone on too long. I'm glad you found the ww matzos, but half a box :nono: They are really keeping your ds in suspense about the job. Hope he hears something soon.
Jeshinn - Welcome.
Slimkat - Welcome. It sure will be easier to follow SB if the whole family is eating this way. The Post Reply button is just above the Quick Reply window.
ACW - Glad to see you back. I think it is a good idea to hide those scales for awhile. We can all rely too much on the darn things and get upset when we don't like the numbers we see. I'm trying to keep off of them, at least for a few more days. Hope you are enjoying the visit from your brother and his family. How long are the kids on holiday for? Here in Canada they only get the long weekend off but back in the UK where I went to school (many, many years ago) we used to get 2 weeks off at Easter. Just curious.
Kim - That's a good idea taking your own food to the meeting this evening. At least then you know you have something legal to eat. I eat oatmeal for breakfast most mornings. I usually nuke some frozen raspberries or blueberries and add them to it.
Jenn in MN - Welcome back. I was thinking about you a couple of days ago wondering what had happened to you. This is such a healthy woe and we are eating food from all the food groups so there is no reason why it wouldn't be healthy during pregnancy.
BOB - Bad, bad Skeeter. Take care of that finger.
HeartMom - HAPPY BIRTHDAY. :gift: :hat: :hb: Sorry you had such a bad couple of days. Tomorrow is another day so just put the weekend behind you and climb back on that wagon. If you are so puffed up most of that extra weight must be fluid. A couple of days back on track should see those 2 pounds disappear again.
TV - Glad dh's knee is better. I guess that nasty needle did the trick. Hope you didn't get the headache back.
Marie.

HAPPY :hb: BIRTHDAY
:hat: HEARTMOM! :hat:

Good Morning!
Deb, I am taking the journalling challenge. I had gotten out of the habit of keeping up with my DietPower, so I decided this morning to keep a good record today, and everyday. I don't think I have gotten out of hand NOT keeping it, but I guess I will see this evening! :) I may be surprised.
Not much going on here. I have some things I want to get done today. I hope I can, but it is "Take Dinner to your Massage Therapist" night. I am also supposed to meet a few old friends for one of their birthdays. They picked a Mexican restaurant. I kind of don't want to go. I don't want to be tempted.
DEB: To answer your questions about the Seder, we did follow the form with the Hebrew letters. The prayers had been translated into English though. It was a great experience. I am not sure why they sit on the floor. I think because way back when, they would recline at table, and this is to kind of give an idea of that. I asked the one staff member to consider an invalid table next year, with chairs! How is your dad doing? I am so sorry he has this clot problem on top of the recovering from his surgery.
ROSALIE: I agree about my son's job. I wish they would just give him one of them already! The last guy told him he would get one or the other, that the two managers both wanted him. I don't know what they are waiting for! You did pretty good yesterday. I chuckled at the bunnies tho!
SHEANNE: Reading about your nutritionist telling you to have only 6oz of protein and all those starchy carbs worried me. My doctor wants me to go to one, and I am afraid I am not going to like what she says. Sounds like yours is still adhereing to the old school, old food pyramid ideas that are not good for those with insulin problems. Hope you can get that worked out.
PANCHO: Not sure what to tell you about the Keto stuff. If the label has less than 3 grams of sugar per serving, it should be ok. If you only have 10 pounds to lose, keep in mind that this is not a fast weight loss method. It is probably the healthiest diet you can go on, but it will not be quick. You have to avoid certain foods totally...like corn, sugar, bananas, pineapple, beets, white flour, white rice....but other than that, there is not really a limit, but you need to exercise common sense. Once you get the book, and read it, you will probably have more questions, and we are here to answer what we can! As for sugar free candies, you do better to avoid them for a while. They can cause cravings, and mess you up. Too much of them, and they work like a laxative.
TV: It was good to hear your hubby's knee hadn't bothered him all day! I hope you did NOT get another migraine! I get them a lot too, and I hate them! They can be so debilitating!
HEART: It was good you got on here and confessed to your binge. Now you can put it behind you and move on. Just keep telling yourself how horrible you feel afterwards. I hope you are feeling better today. Drink lots of water, and eat light, and that bloating will go away in no time. Hope you have a happy birthday, today!
BOB: I can't believe that puppy bit the hand that feeds him! Hope your finger is ok!
JENN: No reason why you can not do SB when pregnant. Its very healthy. You might want to add a starchy carb or two, but other than that, it is fine. Ditto what BOB said...are you giving us a hint at something?
QUILTER: You need to kick me in the bum here...I am getting rather lazy. I am determined to get on the TM this morning, come H or high water.... That is funny about BOB and Kroger. I usually don't shop there. Publix is much cheaper, and since we are stock holders, we tend to do all our shopping there. The Krogers around here just don't seem all that clean. How was your meeting last night?
ACW: Glad you are back. I was thinking about you the other day. A friend of mine has a daughter attending a Bible college in New Zealand. She likes it so much, she is staying an extra term. My friend is dying to go visit her. After all the pictures I have seen, I would love to go with her! ;)
JACK: Its coming down to the wire here. How are you holding up? Just a few more weeks, and you are going to wonder what to do with yourself! I watched a comedy yesterday with my daughter, called Betsy's Wedding. It had Alan Alda and Madeline Kahn in it. It was pretty funny. They have the wedding in a tent, and it starts pouring rain, and the tent eventually starts leaking. In the end, they have delivered pizza, and a dancing in muddy water. Alan Alda dances with Betsy, his daughter and tells her he wanted her to have a wedding she would never forget. Molly Ringwald, who plays Betsy, looks around and tells him she doesn't think she COULD forget this.... it was funny.
JESHINN: Welcome! As to Maltitol, it is ok, but better if you don't use it much. As a special treat only. I find it works as a laxative, and the effect seems to get worse with each time I have any. It also can cause cravings. Its better to just get off anything sweet for a while. Then it is amazing how sensitive you become to sweetness!
SLIMKAT: Welcome! I am sure you will be able to accomodate all of your family with SB. If you only have 12 pounds to lose, just know that this is not a fast weight loss program. You will lose more slowly, but it will be a very healthy diet for you all.
FILLISE: Where are you going with your senior high group for the retreat? How many kids will you have along? By the way, the pool is open. Just way too cold to get in it yet!
ZANNE: Where are you?
MUSIC: Good to see you back! I was thinking about you just the other day, and wondering where you were! Jump on the wagon, and we will try and hold you down! ;)
I sure hope I did not miss anyone....
ok...off to the treadmill.
Tranquil 04-22-2003, 09:54 AM For dinner: I had a small caesar salad - 2 cups of romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese and 3 T of salad dressing, 1 cup of Tomato Bisque soup (Gram brought dinner in because I was not feeling too good)....Dessert: Sugar Free Reduced Fat Klondike Bar. I had about 16 oz of tea as well....and then I hit the sack!
I was late for work today....so I am in a rush about everything!
Hi Everyone!!!
Sabrina
Ellen 04-22-2003, 09:58 AM COUNTRY: You were posting as I was... I hate to sound dumb, but what is Shape magazine? How were those fish your kids caught? Did you eat them for Easter breakfast? When you mentioned that, it made me think of Jesus frying fish on the beach and Peter, James and John out fishing, and not catching anything until Jesus told them where to cast the net. Guess they ate fish for breakfast, eh? :)
Ellen 04-22-2003, 10:00 AM TRANQUIL: You were posting as I was too! :) Sorry your day is starting out rushed! Hope its a good one for you!
Solly 04-22-2003, 10:49 AM Good morning ladies.
My night was somewhat routine. Did have to go to a store and pickup a end table for DD. Just had rueben sandwiches and slaw for dinner and rushed over there to find they were closed due to a power outage from the storm we had Sunday night. rushed home, worked out, went to tanning bed and did some paperwork I needed to do.
At least I got my workout in. That was beginning to worry me. Only got in 1 night last week. I have given up the idea of walking and working out both until the wedding. I'm lucky to get one thing in. Unless I want to get up at 5:30 and do it. Lately I've been so tired I don't think I can do that.
I won't be able to do the challenge until tomorrow. Today we have to go to a boy scout leadership lfund raiser unch at the race track. They usually have chicken and salad. I just pass the potatoes and derby pie.
Heartmom, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! See we didn't forget you today. Have a good one, but please stay out of the cake and goodies. :hat: :gift: :balloons:
ACW, welcome back. Do this for you and hang in here.
Kim, good for yu being prepared for your dinner tonight. No temptation there. I think you would make a wonderful recording secretary. I agree, I love that quote.
Jenn, Don't worry about those leftovers. Let Dan eat them and just tell yourself I can't have that. You wouldn't eat something that made you break out in hives would you? Just think of it that way and you will be fine. Do you have some news to share???? SB is perfectly safe.
Bob, Oh Oh, Skeeter is in big trouble now
TV, glad DH's knee feels pretty good. Hope you held off that headache.
Pancho, You could possibly gain weight when you start eating starchy carbs and fruits again. But realistically it is a better way of eating and something you can do forever. It is a gret life style change. SF candies are ok in moderation, but I wouldn't recommend them until you are settled in and well under way losing.
Monet, now don't beat yourself up. You have made great progress in the last couple weeks. Enjoy that. Take you some triscuits to dip in the salsa. Get fajitas and don't eat the wrap. You will be fine. No tents for us. so if it rains we will be under cover. I can't wait for that time when I don't have anything to do. But I get bored so quickly I will be lost.
Country, I used to take Shape magazine long ago. I was pretty good. I really like Fitness the best and Health.
Tranquil, Starting your day off late will throw you off all day. Take a deep breath and relax for one minute. There, have a great one!
Everyone have a great OP day

It's raining here again to-day - don't know what happened to the sunshine. Oh well I guess it is good for the grass and the plants so shouldn't complain. I've just finished a load of laundry now have to go and practice some line-dance steps for my class this afternoon. We were given a list of all the steps with directions of how to do them last week but I haven't looked at it yet. There's a couple of them that I need to check and practice. Also have to have breakfast. I'm trying to decide what to have for dinner this evening before deciding what to have for breakfast. What great decisions we have to make. :dizzy:
Have a good day everyone.
Marie.
Rosalie 04-22-2003, 11:16 AM Jack-K - We were posting at the same time. When the wedding is over you probably won't know what to do with yourself for a while after the hectic time you are having. Just don't burn yourself out. Make sure you save yourself some 'me' time. Looks like you won't have a problem staying op at the scout meeting.
I've been wanting to make pizza the last few days but really didn't want all those starchy carbs so late in the day. I just remembered a recipe I have for Zucchini Crust Pizza so that is what I have decided to have for dinner this evening. So now I can go and have some oatmeal and berries for breakfast.
Marie.
Debelli 04-22-2003, 11:54 AM Good Tuesday Morning All:wave:
Got in my walk this morning. Almost didn't go but pushed myself out. Only walked the 4.5 miles and it took me 1 hour 2 minutes, a big difference from yesterday. Just wasn't in "the mood."
I was looking through the freezer the other day and came across some low-carb tortillas I must of bought ions ago because I can't remember how long ago, but it's been a few years because when I was in the store where I bought them I asked the guy how much they were and they were over $5 a bag and the ones I have say $3.60! Anyhow, decided to try one, made a pizza out of it and heck if it wasn't good! Has lots of fiber too!
Here's a TUESDAY TIP to share with you all. I found some soy milk from Westsoy that I bought last week. Mind you, I've never really had soy milk other than a taste here and there as a sample at the HFS but this looked good, it was on sale and there were coupons on the carton. I got CHOCOLATE, CAPPUCCINO & VANILLA, all the flavors they make and BOY ARE THEY DELICIOUS!!!! I'm hooked for sure! The cappuccino is my fav! The only thing I'm not crazy about is that they have Splenda in them, so I make sure I limit myself. What I like is that they have fiber in it. Anyhow, it's called SOY SLENDER and it's by Westoy. Try it if you have a chance!
Got my new walkman yesterday - what a steal that was! Now, I just have to figure out how to use the lap functions. It seems that there are modes that will beep after so many minutes, so if you set it to 5 minutes it will beep so you know when it's been 5 minutes. Good for doing a little more intensive jogging at one minute intervals. Also got in my mega-bottles of SKIN SO SOFT and now my entry to the house is mosquito free, not to mention, smelling nice:)
Saw my DD yesterday. He's doing better. Thanks for all your good wishes:D
I journaled my food yesterday and will post the outcome, BUT, in doing so, let me say that it was way too little food. The reason was that I had a HUGE piece of salmon for lunch and it sorta wouldn't go down and stayed there til later in the evening where, if I had eaten anything much I would of seen it come right back up. By the time if finally went down it was late, but I was hungry, so I did eat some things. Will be journaling today, but here's what I had yesterday:
4.8 ounce asian pear
12.5 ounces salmon (raw weight)
.4 ounce pine nuts
1 piece celery
1Tbl cranberry juice
1oz lf cheese
1Tbl pizza sauce
1 ww tortilla
1 ounce roasted soy nuts
1/2 cup choc. soymilk
FILLISE, oye, is it THAT time of year again-DERBY DAY! Okay, I'll cut you some slack, but that day only;) Who said LENT was over??????????
TRANQUIL, okay, so did you try this new sf candy yet? Waiting for a review! I saw it at the store, even have a coupon, but heck if I'm going anywhere near it! I know the outcome that would be if I did. Hope things settle down at work while the boss is away! Hey, I like my WW muffins crunchy too!
MUSIC, glad to see you back!!!!!!!
ROSALIE, when you make your cookies, do you use parchment paper? That may help with having them burn in those extra seconds. The pb oatmeal sounds delish! I wonder if I could use the PB FLOUR that I bought in something like that. Could it be possible you are having too much fat? Looking at your intake, it seems that maybe this is a problem, though this was a special dinner, wasn't it? Okay, I have to ask a 1/2 tsp or cream cheese-what the heck is that? That's nothing!!!! I don't see much fiber in there. Any idea the caloric intake for the day?
JACKK, what's the song that DD has chosen for her first dance with her new DH?
TV, good going for the little ones - major leagues in the works there? Corn casserole? Sounds interesting, though not legal, now that cherry cobbler, that sounds delish!
JEC, only 4 days off for the kids - darn you're lucky!!!!
MONET, going to possibly try my hand at the matzah making today. I went to get MICHAEL some matzah and they didn't have any ww and I won't buy the other, so...if you see smoke coming from the south you'll know that I'm in the kitchen;) Yes, on Passover you are to recline, but I don't know anyone who ever sat on the floor, so that's interesting that you all did so. Glad to hear you'll be doing the challenge!! Any news of DS and the job?
SHEANNE, would be happy to give my opinion but again, remember, it's just my opinion and I in no way know what a nutritionist knows. That being said, I think for you and the weight you are that what she wants you to eat maynot be in good proportions. I think you should be having more protein. I don't remember your weight exactly though, you may want to e-mail me your current and goal weight and I'll give you a better idea of what I think. Debelli@AOL.com
SLIM, http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign1.jpg Geez, we could compare notes when it comes to meals and nightmares! I hate cooking, my DD loves meats and fatty foods, my teenage son is a vegetarian (lacto-ovo), ELI eats whatever whenever he comes home and me, I fend for myself most days. I hate to cook and all these things sure don't help me form a desire to cook! Anyhow, ask whatever questions you may have, we're all more than happy to help answer any questions. The SB BOOK can be a bit misleading, confusing and contradictory at times so asking questions will definitely help! Whereabouts in CA are you at? I envy anyone that lives anywhere near a Trader Joes!
JESH, http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign2.jpg Glad you've decided to join us! I have to agree with what JACKK posted to you. You are much better to get rid of the sweet tooth which you can do so if you just don't eat any of that SF crap. You will lose the sweet tooth craving, I swear! I would eat candy, ice cream and cookies for dinner many nights. Once on SB and sticking to it 100% those cravings left-amazingly so, but very true. Just look at the ingredients in some of this sf stuff-chemicals!!!!!!!! The idea is to get the sugar out - your body doesn't know you are feeding it fake sugar and thus will continue to crave sweets. Sorry to burst any bubbles. Keep asking questions!!!!
ACW, glad to see you back! I agree about hiding the scale, it's been the best thing I've done for myself in a long time, though I will be dragging it out half-heartedly tomorrow to weigh in. Then, back it goes! Geez, I didn't know clots could be hereditary! Another thing to think about I guess. Glad you like those MM, I print many of them out too!
QUILTER, my DD got out of the hospital on Thursday last week and then back in Monday. My Uncle said this was not uncommon. I just don't like that it keeps
re-occuring. I wish RM would make a book with all the past years of writings he's done-I'd surely buy that book! How'd your meeting go last night? Did you take on the job of RS?
JENN, hope you can resist the dog bag goodies sent home. We just have to learn that if it's around it doesn't mean we have to eat it, or have a license to do so;)
SB is definitely safe during pregnancy! Was that a hint or a wishful thought of things soon to come??????????
BOB, SKEETER bit you??????? Has he done that before?
HEART, first, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Hope you have a wonderful day today!! As for the birthday feasting you've been doing there. You have to remember that once you get this stuff back in your system it's like having an addictive drug in your system, your body wants more and more. We've all been there. Some people are lucky to be able to eat something off plan and get back on without problems, some of us aren't. You'll be fine. Start a new year off right for yourself!!!!
PANCHO, http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign3.jpg Hope you find your way on to this board as I copied your post over here. When you switch over from Atkins you may see a slight gain but that will turn around in no time. I think the easiest way to make the switch is to add back the carbs slowly and make them carbs that have a lot of fiber in them. I wouldn't say you can eat all the veggies you want, some you can eat more than others, but with everything, there are limits. Try to stay away from the SF candys. I'm not sure about the KETO stuff, never had them, but if you want to post the nutritional info, I'd be more than happy to give you my input. Better to eat something than to drink if you can. Don't be afraid to ask any questions, we're more than happy to help!!!
COUNTRY, thanks for that link. I already get SHAPE. I wonder if they would extend my subscription for a year if I signed up. Are there any other mags that you know of?
Okay kiddos, it's almost 11am and I'm off to eat something. Will check in later.
TONIGHT IS CHAT AT 9:15PM EST!!! Hope you'll be able to go to the chat room tonight. If I come it won't be til later. Unfortunately, I have to p/u LAUREN and another kid at school at 9:15pm tonight from drama practice, so if I'm back in time I'll jump on the board.
Also, don't want to forget that TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!! I wish us all luck on the metal monster. As much as I'm not too happy about it, I too shall weigh in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jane8760 04-22-2003, 12:00 PM Hi everyone,
I was out of the office yesterday. We went to the Marathon and then to a friends house for a cookout. The weather was beautiful but today I am sunburnt.
Well, the 3 pounds I was down at the end of last week is back on. I was pretty well behaved this weekend too. I was actually very proud of myself. On Friday night I made WW pizza dough, on Saturday night I had chicken parm with a tossed salad. I know it had some breading but that was the only illegal thing I ate all day. On Easter we went to Legal Seafood and I had a cup of clam chowder (yes it had some potato in it) and a crab cake that had very little breading in it with a salad and shrimp cocktail sauce. Yesterday at the cookout I made my mexican dip and for myself instead of using chips to dip I took some WW tortilla's and sliced them then baked them. I used those instead of the chips. I thought I had done pretty well all weekend but now as I type this I realize I didn't. I guess I am just doomed. Even when I am good I am bad.
Well, now I will have to work at it again to lose it this week. I will probably keep losing the same 3 pounds over and over again! Shouldn't I be losing more weight on this WOE? Everyone I know that has followed this has done tremendously! I, like with all other diets that I have done, am not.
Well, enough complaining. The weather fits my mood today. It was so nice yesterday and now it is raining buckets. I so want to get outside and work in my garden. I just have been so busy the last few weeks. I can't seem to find time to scratch!
I will catch up with everyone later if I can. Since I was out of the office yesterday I am busy today.
Debelli 04-22-2003, 12:04 PM On second thought...
I just added up all I ate yesterday, well, calories thus far, and it's not really as low as I thought. I ate about 1,100 calories. Yes, lower than normal, but not much. Darn, that piece of salmon alone was 625 calories! 37 grams of fat too! Def. had too much fat yesterday and protein, that's for sure!!!
JANE, do take this weeks challenge and post at least one day of eating. Also, I can tell you, you can be 100% OP and there could be other reasons to see a gain. Are you eating enough? Drinking enough water? Getting any exercise? Is TOM around the corner? Any major stress? What's more important, how do you feel?
Deb
BOBatwork 04-22-2003, 12:28 PM No time to read right now, but I wanted to pass this little unknown tidbit along to all of you...
CHEW ON THIS
"If you boil an egg while singing all five verses and choruses of the hymn ‘Onward Christian Soldiers,’ it will be cooked perfectly when you come to Amen."

Rosalie 04-22-2003, 12:45 PM Deb - Whether the walk is slow or fast the important thing is that you got out there and did it. What do you do with the Skin So Soft to keep the mosquitos out of the house? I know it is good to put on the skin as a mosquito repellant. The one I have is a bath oil. Do they have something you can spray?
I don't usually use parchment paper in my cookie pans. I'm not sure from your note whether this would help prevent or contribute to the burning. Anyway the next time I make any cookies I will take them out when I see the edges getting a little brown even if the tops don't look like they are done. I think I had better wait until at least next week before I do any more baking. I have two recipes I want to make, one is the peanut butter oatmeal again and then the recipe for oatmeal cookies I got from my dil yesterday. I've no idea if the peanut butter flour would work, you would have to experiment with it. But if you decided to use the pb flour in place of peanut butter you would have to increase the amount of butter in the recipe. I will post the recipe for the cookies later. Yes the dinner yesterday was an Easter dinner and I was expecting only turkey. The hostess thought there wouldn't be enough turkey for everyone so decided to cook a roast beef as well. I wouldn't usually have two kinds of meat at a meal, but what the heck, I started with the roast beef and then couldn't resist the turkey so I definitely had more meat than I would normally eat at a meal. I resisted the bread and the potato but had to have some of the turkey dressing, and I was really stuffed when I was finished (actually I was stuffed before the turkey dressing came out - Monika had forgotten all about it until the end of the meal.) And I just remembered I had a slice of apple cheese cake, certainly not op but it was 90% apple and very little cheescake. I have no idea how many calories. I didn't put it into Fit-day this time just kept notes of everything. My biggest concern is to keep the starchy carbs down. BTW I only used 1/2 tsp of cream cheese because that was all that was left in the carton. :^: I would usually have about two tsp. on a slice of bread.
Jane - Sounds like you did very well with your eating on the weekend. Don't worry too much about the lost three pounds coming back. I'm sure they will be gone again soon. It's quite usual for our weight to fluctuate on a daily basis even when we are eating right. Sometimes it justs takes time to settle into a loss. I know when I was losing (haven't lost any recently) my weight would always go up and down a few pounds before settling down before the next loss. So just hang in there.
BOB - Thanks for that info. I will try to remember that the next time I am boiling eggs. Now I just have to find the words to the hymn :)
Gotta run.
Marie.
P.S. I just posted the recipe for Peanut Butter Oatmal cookies.
jecrites 04-22-2003, 01:06 PM Hello everyone!
Sounds like everyone had a good Easter weekend. I was bad bad bad bad  over the weekend myself. Not a big Easter dinner though. My oldest and youngest girls had birthdays this month, (the youngest on the 2nd. and oldest on the 14th). I can't let my babies go without a birthday cake, so I just got one pretty good sized cake and split it between the two of them. Had each side decorated differently for both girls. I know I had way too much of it, but it was so good I just couldn't help myself. Anyway, it's gone now so I don't have to worry about that. I put a roast in the crock pot for Sunday, went to church and remembered that I forgot to plug the darn thing in! :o So when we got home I plugged it in and we had it for supper. I couldn't believe that I did that! Oh, and as for all the cake I had, I did do A WHOLE LOT of walking Friday and Saturday, and as of right now, I've not lost or gained anything thank goodness. Thanks to TOM I won't see a loss tomorrow either, but hopefully I will see one next WIW.
I made spaghetti squash last night. I'm just wondering if I did something wrong though. Is it supposed to be crunchy? The kids didn't eat it, they had regular noodles, but hubby did try it and said that if regular noodles were cooked then he was gonna eat that. Oh well, I had the squash myself and I thought it was pretty good. I even put some zuchinni in my sauce.
Deb, I hope your dad gets better. It's just awful when someone goes in the hospital for one thing, comes out and then has to go back for something else. My grandma has done that some. Got a question for ya. Do we have to get the fat free dressings? They taste much sweeter than the regular kind, and if I'm not mistaken they have more sugars in them. I'm not good at making my own dressings or I would do it that way; they always turn out horrible!
Rosalie, Zucchini crust pizza? How do you make that? I'm really interested. I've been using pita for my pizzas, and although we don't have that very often, I would still like to know other ways of making a pizza.
Ok ladies, I'm off to the shower. The girls are back in school today, and the house is normal once again, YIPPEE  I'll check back later.
Jenn
Debelli 04-22-2003, 01:37 PM BOB, guess I'll just have to be one of those people who will have to use the old timer to cook eggs. About the only word I know is AMEN!
ROSALIE, last year I was searching the web to see what things were out there to keep the mosquitos away because they kept coming by the front door and in to the house so I had some SKIN SO SOFT in the house and tried that. I spray it on the walls and around the door frame. The mosquitos stayed away! Well, they started to come early this year so I hoped on Ebay and got 5 - 24oz bottles of it and sprayed the front area again and viola, they're gone. I have to re-spray every 5 days or so to keep them away, but by gosh, it works! Just hope I have enough!!!! The parchment will help the cookies not burn and it makes cleaning a breeze! As for the starchy carbs, remember, peas are considered a starchy carb! Not a big deal though, it was a special meal and I alone have eaten lots more starchy carbs in one day than I care to imagine!!!
JEC, don't feel bad you didn't remember the crockpot, you must suffer from CRS like I do. I put the hose on outside and forgot to turn it off. An hour later my neighbor knocked at my door to tell me the water was running - hate to see this water bill! I think you didn't cook the spgti squash enough. As for the ff dressings, most are loaded with sugar, that's how they make up the taste difference. I would opt for a regular or possibly a light version, as long as you look at the label and make sure it falls under the SB guidlelines, it should be okay. I get one at the HFS that's wonderful. I only use 1Tbl of it, otherwise it's really too much fat, but it's sufficient.
Just found out I don't have to get MICHAEL at school, he's staying late and getting a ride home and LAUREN'S Dad is picking her up later on, so I'm free!!!
Now, what to do:shrug:
Toodles
Deb
Zanne 04-22-2003, 01:41 PM Hi Gang!
Just a little check in from me.
Got thru Easter pretty good. Only had a spoonful of mashed potatoes with dinner. Filled up more on salad and ham. Did have a bit of cake, but didn't overdo it. I've had some of the wee chocolate foil covered eggs, maybe a total of 15 since Sunday.
I haven't been getting in the elliptical, BUT I've been walking DS to the parks and then chasing him around the playground equipment. It took me a bit to figure out my arms and legs were sore from climbing, sliding and swinging!
It's icky rainy here today, so I think I'll be doing the elliptical. I've got me some incentive to do it cause I bought 2 bathing suits yesterday. YUP! 2 of 'em!!! DH has always told me I have good legs, so I've been looking at the tankini suits. In a flyer from one of our department stores, they had them for $29.99! Couldn't pass up that deal. The tank top part covers my belly a bit.
We had tacos and salad last night. I had only one taco with the hard shell, then I used the fixings to make taco salad. Seasoned ground beef, tomatoes, lettuce, grated cheese all mixed with some Pace salsa. Really yummy and filling. DS wanted the leftovers today for lunch. Good idea he had.:) I was trying to figure out what I wanted for lunch. DS wants to take it for school tomorrow, so I cooked up some more meat. Guess what I'm having for lunch tomorrow?!!!
I've only briefly browsed the board.
DEBELLI--Sorry your dad had to go back into the hospital. I hope the clot dissolves soon. My dad had to go in for a clot in the leg a few years ago and he's doing just fine now.
MONET--Thanks for missing me:D I did a double take and had to scroll back up to make sure I had seen my name. I've just been keeping busy.
WELCOME --to all the newbies! This is a warm, wonderful place for support and to get answers to your questions.
WELCOME BACK--to all who have been away for a while
I've gotta go. I've got a 5 year old in overdrive! I think I'll make him run laps or jump on the mini-tramp.
Ellen 04-22-2003, 02:05 PM DEB: After reading your paragraph about the Westsoy products, I wonder if you have ever read anything about soy, and the controversy on its use in human consumption? I know you are concerned about stuff like that, since you don't use Splenda. Here is a link to Dr. Mercola's soy index page, with links to a lot of recently published articles on recent research on soy. Its interesting reading. I thought you might find it so.
http://www.mercola.com/article/soy/
Rosalie 04-22-2003, 02:18 PM The recipe for the Zucchini Crust Pizza is on the July/Dec 2001 Recipe Board. Let me know if you are unable to find it and I will post it again on the current recipe board. I use spaghetti squash sometimes and I like it a little crunchie. If you don't like it this way just cook it a little longer.
Marie.
jecrites 04-22-2003, 02:38 PM Deb, Thanks so much for the info on the dressings. That f.f. stuff is for the birds, that's one thing that I just can't choke down. I don't like my salads to be drinched in dressing either, it makes it impossible to taste anything else, but I don't like it completely dry either; tried that just the other day and it was awful too.
Rosalie, Thanks, I'm gonna jump right in that recipe board to find that recipe. Hopefully I'll have everything to make it, and if I don't, then I'll pick the stuff up next time I'm at the grocery store.
You ladies are wonderful. I mean all of you. It's so nice to know that there's someone you can tell that you messed up and they are there to help pick you up and get you going again. There are too many people in the world today that would rather look down their noses at you. I'm so glad that I found y'all.
Ok, I'm off to look for that recipe now. I'll check back again later.
Jenn
Solly 04-22-2003, 05:36 PM Boy am I mad. We get to the luncheon and they hand you a box lunch!!!! Turkey, ham or roast beef on a huge hoagie bun, chips, potatoe salad and 2 cookies! Here I had begged about 30 people to buy tables at this thing at $1500/table and they give us a box lunch. I was embarrassed. Not to say that I couldn't eat any of it.
I threw away the top bun, cut the bottom bun in half and put the little pc of turkey and cheese on it. Ate only that half and 3 glasses of water. Usually it is such a nice hot lunch. Next year people won't be so eager to donate.
Headed home to eat my chicken. It is going to taste pretty good tonight.
Rosalie, you sound like a little girl taking tap lessons with your practicing. I bet you do great. I always decide my dinner first, then my lunch, and bf is what's leftover.
Deb, good for you getting out there when you didn't want to. $5.00 for tortillas? That sounds expensive. Don't remember what she mentioned as their song. She didn't want to tell us. I'm more concerned about the dance with Dad. I think it is going to be "through the Years". I'll have to stay in the bathroom or I'll cry the whole night. Can't wait to see your WIW results sinceyou haven't been on there for so long. I'm sure you will be pelasantly surprised. Peas are a starchy carb? I thought the book said they were not.
Jane, those 3 lbs can be anthing. The weight of the meal from the previous night, hormones, water retention. They are not fat. They will disappear just as fast as they appeared. Don't get discouraged. That's the bad thing about weighing all the time. Deb posted a great piece about the scale awhile back. I betit is on one of the information boards. You should look it up.
Bob, Interesting. But I don't know the words so mine would be raw.
Jecrites, The spaghetti squash is not crunchy. It was good, but not a substitute for spaghetti as far as I was concerned.
Zanne, You had better hide those chocolate eggs before they get you. Your taco salad sounds so good.
Probably won't be a chat tonight. DD is working a a paper for school. If the computer is free, I'll try to be there. Guess we will try to pick up her table again.
Have a great evening and good luck to everyone ont he scale tomorrow.

Fillise 04-22-2003, 06:09 PM Hey all!
I'm just about packed and ready to go. My plane leaves at 7:50 pm EDT and I should be in Atlanta by 9:30 and Auburn by 10:30 CDT. I cannot wait to see Miss Belle! I have missed her so much this week.
I am mildly curious to see what the scale will say tomorrow. TOM is being difficult this month and hanging around awhile, so I'm still retaining water. I'm resisting the urge to throw Mom's scale into my suitcase since it seems to be about 5 lbs lighter than mine!
Tranquil--I haven't tried those SF Hershey's candies yet--most SF candy really does a number on me (that would be number 2). I did get some good 62% cocoa chocolate in my basket which I shall stow away for when a really want a taste of chocolate!
Deb--I don't think I can do the challenge this week. If I journal everything then I think about food constantly--and if I do that I start to obsess on food and that leads to bad news for me. That salmon you had yesterday was not bad for you. The fat in Salmon is the good kind of fat--remember there are two kinds--bad and good and we have to distinguish between them! A 12 ox steak--now that would have been the bad kind of fat! ;-)
Music--glad to see you back on the board. I, too, fell off the wagon seriously awhile back and gained a significant amount of weight back. I've relost almost half of it, so you can do the I've been bad blues with me!!!
Marie--I use the Pampered Chef Stoneware baking sheets and it is the only thing i've found that doesn't burn the bottom of cookies!
Jackie--Actually I'm planning to make a SF cheesecake for derby day and to melt some DK chocolate for dipping strawberries, so the juleps are likely the only think that will be bad for me. So very very bad.
Sheanne--So far so good on the next challenge. You need way more than 6 oz of protein per day! Sounds like your nutritionist is still on the low-fat kick. Tell her to keep up with the latest research!
Slimkat--Welcome! Don't be afraid to ask any questions--this can all be a bit confusing at first! It sounds good that the whole family will be signing on!
Julie--Welcome to you too! I think the malitol is a sugar alcohol--it can have a laxative effect on some folks! Most of us find it helpful to completly "detox" from sweets in the beginning. You will be amazed at how quickly you will lose your taste for sweets!
Kim--Feel free to join me on this challenge! Mom is doing great--the test showed her heart to be completely normal. Now we are trying to keep her from taking out a hit on the Dr.for scaring everyone to death!
Jenn--I beleive that SB is good for pregnancy! I don't see any problems, but of course check with your Dr! How exciting!
BOB--Oh dear--please tell Skeeter to feel better soon!
Heart--Step away from the food! Take a deep breath and remember how good it feels inside your body to eat foods that are good for you! Exhale. Don't worry about anything other that your next meal. Make it a healthy OP one! Just take them one at a time--you can do it!!!
Monet--I am taking the kids to a small lake cabin about 10 miles out of town. We are calling the weekend "Sex at the Lake." Yup--it's the sex ed retreat. My favortie weekend of the entire year--NOT!
Country--I've seen shape magazine before--hmmm might inspire me to exercise--better not! ;-)
I'm packing the computer now--don't know if I will be able to get on tomorrow since I have to be in Montgomery first thing in the morning. It might be Thursday before I can get on again!
Susan
ps--Heart--Happt Birthday!!!!!
CountryMom4Him 04-22-2003, 06:10 PM Howdy all! I posted earlier but it's no where to be found...wonder if I forgot to hit enter....:)
Love,
Crystle
Fillise 04-22-2003, 06:11 PM Deb--Hmmm, I think even on 1 ox steak would be bad! Of course I meant oz!

The Quilter 04-22-2003, 06:18 PM Hello All!!!
I'm waiting for a friend. We are going out for dinner and then over to the local Barnes and Nobles for a writers' workshop. We go to them every month and they are great. So I have a few extra moments to spare so I thought I'd get in a good post.
Eating was good today. We had to get up early and get into work by 8 a.m., so I am really tired. But still want to go out and have fun. I had egg with ww pita for breakfast. That's a good way to start out the day. But didn't take time to exercise. We were woken at 5:15 by the sounds of the dog trying to vomit. That is a good way to wake up fast. We tried to get her outside in time, but she didn't make it. Thank goodness Paul cleaned it up. I was too squeamish for that. Any of you dog owners know, you'd do just about anything to get them outside when that's about to happen. One time I held her head in a big trash can and that worked well. But Paul's too nice to do that to her.
Sorry for the gross out subject.
JACKK---That's a bummer about your lunch. That's a lot of money for little meal. We always try to give people good eats when they come to a fundraiser. At least they can go away full and well fed. Perhaps the race track is too expensive and they should choose somewhere with a lower menu price. That's a hard choice. I know.
JECRITES---This is a wonderful group of people, isn't it? Sometimes I'm thankful that I had a weight problem to begin with so I found all these great friends. But other days . . . LOL
MONET---Tsk, tsk! Is that all I need to say about that confession of yours????? Don't get depressed, just get back on track. Sounds like a little recommitment would work well for you. Remember we can't do anything about the past, but we can take care of the future. You can do it. Perhaps a little extra treadmill would also do the trick. {{{HUGS}}} The meeting went well. There's a lot of work ahead. We need to get new members and also get more organized. Listen to me starting to act like "Miss Know it All". But I think we need to look to the future and stop talking about how great the past was. MHO only. I felt great eating my lunch food too. So that worked well.
HEART---Happy, happy birthday!!! I hope you have a great day. You deserve it. Queen for a day . . . how does that sound?
DEB---I did take the position of RS for Altrusa. Why not? I think I'll be able to do some good there.
Okay, I'd better go. My friend will be here soon to pick me up.
Take care. I'll try to get to the chat tonight, but don't know what time we'll get home.

Zanne 04-22-2003, 07:01 PM Hope you're having a wonderful day! Happy Birthday:gift: :balloons: :gift:
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 04-22-2003, 07:23 PM EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!!
Just a quick check in...I'm going to dinner at the local "FOO FOO" place tonight. It's the 5, 10, 15, 20 yr recognition party for the hospital. I've got to put on a REAL dress and REAL shoes for this shindig! Usually surf and turf....
SKEETER seems to be in a better mood today, he's just getting more crotchety by the day!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURIE!!!! Hope it was a good one!
My arm is killing me...it's nerve pain and there's not much to do about that! I'm still taking the 800 mg motrin, and had heat with my ultrasound today. They gave me a tennis ball to put between me and where ever I'm sitting so I can roll it around for relief on my shoulder blade. The neuro massage is tomorrow morning at 11.
I've set my VCR for the evenings choices...DON'T FORGET TO WATCH DATELINE AT 10p.m. est ...they are profiling people who do different diets and this is a follow up from last week.
 EVERYONE...can't stay...gotta go....

sugarless 04-22-2003, 08:47 PM Hello All,
I wanted to know another alternative to eating triscuits if you want something crunchy like a chip. What do some of you eat?
Thanks for the help

heartmom 04-22-2003, 10:03 PM Thanks for all the birthday wishes- unfortunately, hubby hasn't even acknowledged my bday today! I'm in a really crappy mood because of it. When he gets inside from cutting grass I'm going to let him know how bad he hurt my feelings. Anyway, eating is back OP today. Supper is going to be late, but it's cooking right now. Well, I was just popping in to say hello.

linworthlady 04-23-2003, 07:21 AM Quickie post
Happy Birthday Laurie!!!-give that ole dh a kick in the arse for me OK?
I have houseguests-my brother and his 12 y.o. dd. I have read the posts but don't have much time to respond. I will write more when I have time.
Ellen 04-23-2003, 09:02 AM Well, I do not like having to report that I am up two pounds from last week. I did have some matzo balls made with regular white flour matzo meal, and I drank a few glasses of wine last Friday night at the Seder. I also skipped my Glucophage that night, because of the wine. This does not seem to be enough to cause the gain, so I am a bit perplexed.
Yesterday, I did Deb's challenge. I had 1450 calories for the day. That included: 60 grams of fat, 101 grams of protein, 116 grams of carbs, and 19 grams of fiber, and zero sugars, and 100 oz of water. The fat was on the high side, as the ratio was 39% fat, 33% carbs, and 29% protein. Sodium was 2400. Is that too much? I never salt stuff, and tend to have low sodium when then do lab work, so I usually don't worry about it. Anyone care to comment? If I need to post a list of just exactly what I ate, I can do that. It will just take longer than giving the stats! :) My program, Dietpower, keeps track of it all.
I did not go to lunch yesterday. I decided I just did not feel up to it. I stayed home and did some maintenence work on my digital picture files, and other computer work. I was glad I did not have to face the temptation of Mexican food. My WIW would have been much worse!
HEART: What did your hubby say when you talked to him last night? Men are so clueless sometimes! Mine did something before we were married that really hurt me. We had just gotten engaged, and he went back home, and I was at my home 1000 miles away. He was supposed to call me, but did not. I finally called him, and when he hung up the phone, his MOTHER ripped into him! The only time the woman has ever stuck up for me, I am sure! But it made an impression, and he has been pretty careful since. I hope you were able to reach him, and he will learn to appreciate you, and show it, more. I know you have a lot of stress to deal with, with Boogie's health. You really need each other to lean on. I am praying for you.
SUGARLESS: I like Ak Mak crackers, and whole wheat Matzos. The Snyders oat bran pretzels are legal, according to Deb. I have them occasionally. You can also get sweet potato chips. They are ok. I think there is a recipe to make them on the board as well. Carr's whole wheat crackers taste like graham crackers. They are something you only want to have as a rare treat though, since they are kind of high in calories. The sugars are 3 per serving though. I find bacon and beef jerky made crisp helps satisfy the craving for something salty and crunchy.
BOB: What a spread! How did you ever manage not to totally pig out!? Were you celebrating an anniversary with the hospital, or just there to celebrate with those who were? Real shoes and a real dress huh? Did you take pictures? :)
QUILTER: Recommitment, eh? I did not feel like I had fallen that bad, but perhaps I did. I am recommitting to the treadmill for a minimum of 30 minutes at least four times this week. I would love to get like Country, and do 60 minutes a day. I am taking my metabolic booster (phentermine) everyday for a few days to see if it will get the scale moving again. I have been stuck in this same five pound range for over 6 weeks, and I am getting pretty irritated at the lack of progress. Especially in view of those pictures. Shudder. The pool is open, but it is too cold to swim. I may force myself into the water, to cause hypothermia, and thus weight loss from trying to keep warm. What do you think? Think it might work? I remember reading in Readers Digest about someone who was lost in the ocean for like a day, and lost like 20 pounds from the hypothermia. I could stay in the pool for several hours if it would work! ;)
FILLISE: Was Miss Belle happy to see you? Or did she give you the cold shoulder, and act like she was ticked you left her? My cat often holds a grudge. As soon as you get back from Sex at the Lake, we really ought to try and plan a time to meet. If you don't want to drive all the way over to Hotlanta, perhaps we could meet in the middle?
JACK: I can't believe that lunch they served! And the tables were $1500? Bad move! You can get a really NICE box lunch for under $5! How many people were there? I bet they made a fortune! It sure is frustrating when you have to attend something and the food is in no way, shape or form legal. Thats one of the reasons I ditched lunch yesterday. The restaurant they were meeting at was one I had been to before, and could find NOTHING legal on it. So, how was your chicken last night?
ZANNE: Don't you disappear again! And give those chocolate eggs to your son. :nono: You don't want to hold yourself back. You still ready to move south? I think the house sold, but there are several others in the neighborhood.....just think of all the money you will save on heating oil, and boots and coats and scarves and hats and gloves! You only need that stuff once a year at most, when we get a freak snowfall. Then, socks will do for mittens in a pinch!
COUNTRY: I snickered about you maybe forgetting to hit enter. Sounds like the kind of things I do! A couple weeks ago, I decided to reformat a memory card for my camera...then realized I had just deleted about 40 pictures I had not downloaded to the computer yet! I bet you don't do things like that! I can't even blame it on the kids anymore!
ROSALIE: How did the dance class go?
Ok, time to hit the treadmill! Later!
The Quilter 04-23-2003, 09:09 AM WIW Report!!!
Happy to say that I'm down 2.5 this week. Hoooooorayyyyyy!!! That puts me at 187.5 which is a total of 16.5. So I broke that pesky 190 zero and it feels great!!!
Hey, I took ROSALIE's advice and nuked a half serving of blueberries to put in my one serving of oatmeal. DELICIOUS!!!!! I can't wait for breakfast tomorrow! It gives it a whole new taste. So some of you who don't normally like hot cereal might want to give it a shot with your favorite fruit.
Gotta go. We slept an hour later this morning, so I am really behind. It's NHL playoff time and Paul loves those games. He was up past 1 am watching last night.
Have a wonderful, wonderful day. And GOOD LUCK TO ALL YOU WEIGHERS!!!!!
Kim
Zanne 04-23-2003, 09:14 AM Just a quick check in before walking DS to school.
I'm up 2lbs today from last week. Don't think those few chocolate eggs and a wee bit of cake did that. Hopefully it's just water damage! I'm not going to fret over it.
I've got a bit of a headache today. Had one last night too. Haven't figured out if it's allergies, the crazy weather or something else. A good walk in the fresh air should do it some good.
I hope everyone has a better WIW than me. I'll try to get back to do a few replies.
jane8760 04-23-2003, 09:27 AM Well I am sad to say that I appear to be the same....170. If I had a digital scale it may be down a half or so but that's it. I am very discouraged. I know it is me that is just not doing the work but why can't I seem to make myself do it. If I need to sacrifice why can't I? I know why.....I just don't want to. How is that for the truth. I hate the size of my body but I am too lazy to really buckle under and do what I need to do to change it.
I am extremely tired lately and that is not helping. When I am tired I tend to eat the wrong things.
I've decided that I need a magic wand! ....and the magic wand apparently is not ME!
I am also feeling PACKED into my clothes today. What is up with that? It is not "that time" either. I am seriously thinking of taking a vacation day and make a doctors appt. The only thing is is that there isn't any one thing I want to talk to her about. If I make an appt they will think I am nuts. Everytime I have gone to the doctors about my weight they just tell me that I am not that bad and to just eat less and exercise more. They apparently can't see the stress that this is causing me and think I am just another one of those woman that wants the magic pill.
I have thought about seeing a nutritionist but I don't know where to start with that. There are not many around my area.
Well, on a lighter note....I am having a Creative Memories party this Saturday. I need some ideas for food. It is going to be at 12:30 so I want to serve something other than cheese and crackers. I was thinking of making some chicken and cheese quasidilla's (sp) with my WW tortillas. I can slice them up and they could be finger food. But I need more ideas.....anyone?
I am also sending my wedding picture to Country today......you may finally get to see it! Nothing like dangling that in front of you and not delivering huh?
Talk to you all later.
Debelli 04-23-2003, 10:07 AM Good Morning:wave:
Well, I'm NOT a happy camper here! I got on the scale and I haven't lost a single pound since January! I must be on some major plateau because I have not eaten one thing off plan in the last 4 weeks (tomorrow) and I've been exercising as well. I had only been on the scale probably once or twice since January and one time I was up and one time still the same. Having the scale put away and out of sight I was using a measuring tape and that too has basically stayed the same as well, once in a while I'll be an inch bigger, a few days an inch smaller, but for the most part, it's been the same. Unfortunately, I still have a few pounds to lose to get back to my goal weight, but the sadder thing is how much I gained when I was at the lowest of my lows. BUT, with that being said, I do have to say that I have seen my fanny pack getting bigger, I know I'm eating right, I know I'm exercising, I feel good and THAT'S what I am going to focus on right now. NOT the scale, not the numbers! The scale is going back out of sight and I don't plan on weighing in for a while again. I'll continue to do what I'm doing because I know that it's right and I know if I'm patient that the scale will drop in time. I have to take in to account how bad my eating got there and how crazy I went eating like a mad woman:fr: I keep that in mind. Plus, I'm sure that todays WIW results wasn't helped much either with my eating yesterday. Totally OP, but too much food. Nothing would fill me up for some reason. Funny thing was that last night I dreamt I ate candy and it made me gain major weight! Glad it was just a dream, or more of a nightmare. Doesn't help that I ate til late last night AND that I'm playing DOOKIE HOUSER either:shrug: PLUS, I do feel bloated too! Hmmm, can I muster up any more excuses?????????
I hope that my experience doesn't deter anyone. It happens. It's all my fault. I knew when I was eating all that crap that it would make me gain but I couldn't stop myself, I was like a bull in a china shop-totally out of control. In the last 4 weeks I haven't had ANYTHING off plan and I have totally stayed away from eating any SB LEGAL treats. I've totally detoxed all sugars and the desires for them even-and thankfully so. I played with fire and now I'm paying the piper to undo the damage I did.
My goal is to get back to my goal weight on my GOAL ANNIVERSARY which is June 10th. It will be 2 years since I reached my goal weight. I'll do my best!!!
ELI is off today but has to go to a meeting from 1-1:30pm, so I may go and just hit the book store while he's at his meeting. We don't have to get the kids until 9pm tonight which is nice. Not sure where we'll end up later today now that we don't have to rush back for the kids.
I was going to walk this morning but decided to give myself a day off. I should go, I don't have a single excuse, but...
ZANNE, I love tacos and burritos, but have only made legal burritos since on SB. There's a place in Calif. called RUBIOS and they have the best FISH TACOS I've ever had. Though, in the paper this weekend there seems to be a place that has fish tacos down here, gonna have to try one day, minus the taco shell! Don't worry about those 2lbs, that's a manageable gain that is easy to work on and probably isn't fat but water weight.
MONET, I can definitely say your calorie consumption is to low. That's what I eat in calories, so try to work on that if you can if this happens most days. Just a little high on the fats but otherwise your numbers aren't too far off. How'd you do on fiber? Calcium? As for the soy, I've read lots of things on soy, since that's all that MICHAEL eats and I know there's some controversy but with all the vegetarians out there and him being limited, not much else I can do for him on that side but to keep informed. With me, I don't think the small amounts will hurt AND hopefully, will help with hot flashes!!!
JEC, I haven't found a FF dressing that's good yet! I do have to agree with you, the members of this board ARE wonderful! I hope one day you'll have the opportunity to meet at least a few of them to see just how right you are!:D
JACKK, gosh, I'd be pist too! A boxed lunch! OMG, that's awful and def. embarrasing. I hope you spoke to the organizer about it. Yes, those tortillas ARE expensive. All that low-carb stuff seems to be. Glad to know that on SB we don't have to worry about having to buy that kind of stuff. I'm just happy they're still good and that I don't have to throw them away!!! I don't have to wait for MICHAEL or LAUREN to get married to be crying like a nut-I have graduation to get me in gear for that! Then off to college. I'll be a basket case. Unfortunately, as you read above, I didn't get a pleasant surprise with the scale, but hey, I'm a survivor, and I won't let it get me down nor will I give in!
From the sites I went to, peas ARE considered a starchy carb. From The Schwarzbein Principle website here's what I found:
First, let's start with what is NOT a non-starchy vegetable._Anything that is more that 5 grams for one portion (1/2 cup) can't be considered to be a non-starchy veggie._ These include:_ acorn squash, artichokes, beets, burdock root, butternut squash, carrots, corn, green peas, leeks, lima beans, lotus roots, okra, parsnip, potato, pumpkin, rutabagas, sweet potato or yam, turnips.
I think peas have a GI of 48, but not positive, would have to confirm.
FILLISE, hope you had a safe trip home. Hope the scale was kind to you upon your return as well. Was MISS BELLE happy to see you???? Hey, don't worry about journaling, whatever works for you! I know the fat in the salmon is good, wasn't worried about it at all, but boy, the calories I used on that one piece was a lot. Going to get some more today while it's on sale - it was wonderful!
QUILTER, you go girl! CONGRATS!!! That is such awesome news!!! My goodness, before you turn aroud you'll be below 185, then you'll be tasting those 170's! You are doing awesome and I'm SO proud of you!!!:D
BOB, real dress AND real shoes? Boy, I hope you got a picture like that for the board, I probably wouldn't recognize you! Sounds like they had some good grub there!
SUGAR, I'm not a crunchy person but do like the SNYDERS OAT BRAN PRETZELS, or, soy nuts maybe. I'm sure there's others on the board who can give better ideas. I'm more the sweet lover.
HEART, well, did DH remember or did he get your foot up his arse?
JANE, |
