Debelli 02-12-2001, 11:29 AM Good Monday Morning Everyone! :D
Just a quick post to get my MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY message in for everyone:
Failure
The surest recipe for failure, is to avoid failure. If you cannot accept the prospect that you might fail, then you will most certainly fail. To avoid failure, is to avoid even the possibility of success.
Accomplishment requires effort and commitment. And it requires risk. Accomplishment requires that you make decisions, set priorities, make choices, and take action. Those things are all very risky. They can lead to failure just as surely as to success.
Yet what is failure? It is merely another step toward success. When you don't get the results you want, at least you've learned how not to act. So, is failure really so bad?
Without failure there would be no success. Make the effort. Expect the best, and accept that it may be necessary to adjust your approach to improve your results.
Be willing to fail as you take action, and you're on the road to success.
-- Ralph Marston
CATHY, you should be able to find some SB legal chocolates at any large HFS, but there are tons of places on the web you can order from it not. I have a few links on the FOOD INFORMATION BOARD you can look at. Good luck with the metal monster!!!
GATOR, when are you leaving for Arizona?? Have a great time!
CYNSEA, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
I'll check in with you all later. I hope you all have a great week!!!

I know it's late (or early) LOL, but I had to finish reading tonight. Couldn't give it up till I was done. :D Have to be out of here early in am, so I thought I'd go ahead & post a few responses since Debbie put up the new board before I finished reading last weeks.
Beach, thanks for posting that Interview with Luis A. Balart, M.D. I've looked at that glycemic index site, but it's rather confusing cause I see White Bread column & another column, can you explain? What I've really been looking for is the glycemic index for turnips. Can you help me??
kapola, sorry to hear of your accident at the red light. Hope you weren't hurt, & just getting your car back 2 weeks ago?? Streets aren't safe around you, huh? Please be careful. And girl, don't give up. Things are bound to get better soon. Keep your head up & keep busting! Weather been really strange here in SW La too. Went to work Fri am it was 70 & muggy. Came home it was 48 & raining, then down in the 30's the past 2 mornings.
Liz, hope you reach your goal for your trip to Bahamas. DH & I went in 1995 & sure did enjoy it, but on the trip back the water was rough, a disturbance in the gulf & we didn't tolerante the ride if you know what I mean...LOL Hope you have smooth sailing when you go.
Viv, Praise the Lord it's NOT CA!!! Those other things can be treated. I know you & your dad both must be breathing a BIG sigh of relief.
Karen, good to have you aBOARD...LOL. I know what you mean about feeling like having a circle of friends. I don't get to post for days sometimes, but I miss it & can't wait to read & catch up with everyone & what's going on. Hey, we say the same thing about LA weather, if you don't like it, wait a few minutes, it'll change. Guess we're not unique then...LOL
Quilter, sure sounds like your lunch with Curtis Aikens was a big success & an event to remember. Mardi Gras bash & New Orleans zydeco bands in Cincinnatte, Ohio?? They sure do travel with this LA music! LOL
Debbie, You find the Agave Nectar in HFS? I will look for some tomorrow while I'm in Lafayette. I've seen several receipes calling for honey that I'd like to try, but didn't want to use them because I didn't think honey was SB legal. Also, I saw you posted some sample menus. I've been making the Tabouli salad receipe I found on Busycooks.com & adding Tuna & various fresh veggies like lettuce & cukes to bring to work. We really have been enjoying it. The Aromatic Chicken & Lentils also went over real big here with DH.
Only problem was that it REALLY made me gasey. Not a good thing :D
Frog...wow that water vs coke thing is really an eye opener...GOT to drink more!! I have really all but stopped drinking my CFD cokes, though. Hadn't had but 1 or 2 in the last 3 weeks. BIG change for me. I'd have 1 or 2 a day!
GatorGal, Yes I read your post & I got tired just reading the events of your day. Girl, that's alot of cooking! I think you deserve a few days of R&R in Arizona after all that. Enjoy!!!
Well got to get some http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//sleep.gif Catch up with ya'll tomorrow eve. Have a great Monday!!

cheri45 02-12-2001, 02:17 PM Hi everyone! Well about an hour ago I finished planning my meals at fitday.com for tomorrow and decided that I would go ahead and post something motivational for later this morning. Well, I forgot that I recently got a new Internet Service Provider and therefore a new internet address, so when I went to post something I couldn't remember my password and couldn't have it e-mailed to me because my address had changed. http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//umm.gif So... I had to reregister.
Anyway, here's what I was going to post earlier:
"Life is not an obstacle course...
it's a dance lesson.
It's okay to make a mistake,
As long as you keep dancing
And focus on enjoying the people you're dancing with;
Even if you're waltzing and they're doing the lambada!"

Hope you all have a great day!

Cathy H 02-12-2001, 06:23 PM Good Monday Morning Everyone~
Well I stepped on the scale and "WOW" I had a 2 Lb loss! Yiiipppeeee... That sure puts me in a cheerful mood. I knew I could do this. You are all correct when you speak about failure. I know I've fallen off the wagon a couple of times, but I just get up and climb back on! This SB is a wonderful life change for me. Now if I could only get DH to join me. I'll have to work on that one!
I'm hoping to go to this HFS early this week. I'm sure I'll find it interesting. Need to look for some Chocolate and some of that nectar. Where in the store would I find the nectar? Never been to a HF store.
Well I couldn't find the place to put my weightloss so thought I'd tell all of you wonderful ladies (& Gents) Are there any male bodies at this great site?
Good Luck to All~

MsLiz1956 02-12-2001, 08:05 PM Hi all!
Cathy H - great news on your loss! Wow - I can't wait until I have that feeling!
Melf - thanks for the encouragement about my goal! We've been to this particular place (Nassau Beach)several times & really love it. It's SO laid back. No casinos, shopping or shows for us. It's bed-eat-beach-eat-beach-bed for us! My idea of heaven on earth...
And the gals using both WW & SB - I'm supposed to get my at-home kit today & I hope it comes. I cant' wait to get started! I think the structure of WW will help a lot while I'm trying to plan my eating. Life is complicated enough, without having to put all the brainwork into figuring out menus, grams, etc. All that figgerin' just tires me out & I don't stick to it...
My "Motivational Tip" may sound sorta weird (you'll get ued to that ;) ) but it's a quote by Yoda from "Star Wars" that reminds me how often I let myself off the hook with "Okay, I'll try..."
"Do or Not Do - there is no Try." - Yoda
Have a great week!

CHERI: be sure to update your bio with your new email address..
Cathy..CONGRATs. Doesn't that make you feel great? Keep it up..We're not really sure if there are any males actually posting in disguise, or just lurkers...we did have one guy join us for a day not too long ago, but he didn't stick around....TOO MUCH WOMAN FOR HIM I GUESS!!!!

BARBEE...I checked that site out, IT'S GREEK TO ME...I'll play with it a little more and let you know!
Got to get to work...Have a great day everyone!
OHMIGAWD . It took me 45 minutes to catch up on posts! We all just have to stop being such good communicators! ;) I have to get SOME work done at work today, LOL!
While we were having our busy weekend of hockey and skiing (oh, you FLA gals, I would much prefer swimming and shopping at Orlando outlet malls!), some questions came to mind, want to get them out of the way now for you SB wizards:
1. I was reading Andrew Weil's book this weekend - he almost comes out and supports the carb theory, but then totally blasts away the sugar theory - but anyway, he had a GI chart in the book that listed watermelon at a 7! What's up with that? I thought watermelon, my FAVE summertime treat, was illegal! Also, he said that AL DENTE regular ol pasta had a low GI as well, so it shouldn't affect the insulin, etc. I know I read too much, but I would really like your thoughts on this! Thanks! I have more confusing stuff from his book....I'll get to it!
2. Okay, is HFS a midwestern or southern market? Just curious since it's referred to regularly....
3. What do you do if/when you have MAJOR chocolate/sweet cravings? Any great strategies? I had a major sweet craving last nite - I then at 1/2c of plain yogurt with 1 TB of fruit spread....but it wasn't chocolate. Which brings me to my next question....
4. Weds is Valentines' Day. Other than the 12 dozen roses DH will bring me before he whisks me away to Paris http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//lol.gif, there is a box of GREAT See's chocolates in the house that my Dad sent. It's still sealed, and the kids will wolf down plenty - but I would so love to have a good sized serving of it. Strategies...thoughts....yell at me if you must...or tell me, truly, how a little binge has affected you in the past. Give me strength or tell me I can be weak!
5. Fat calories. I mean, calories from fat. This Fitday is making me crazy - each day I seem to consume WAY too much fat in my food. I eat a little cheese, but it's amazing how the fat creeps in. The book really does not stress LOW FAT everything, so how do y ou guys handle the fat issue? Deb, I know you said you eat almond butter everyday....any ideas?
OK, the quiz is over!
My new digital scale told me 3 different weights within 5 minutes on Friday. None of which I liked~! So I returned the thing and bought a decent quality old fashioned mechanical scale, which seems to like me. I think digital scales really can be way out of whack, battieries low, perhaps not totally in snyc =- what kind of scales do you guys prefer? (sorry, that was another question...)
Kapola - I am relatively new to this board, altho not to 3fc, and I really don't get any clique-y impressions at all! I feel like I have been welcomed with open arms. Perhaps the only real requirement I feel there is is to do the SB WOE, but that's totally fair! I've participated, and still do, in several boards, all of which are open and friendly. If you choose not to hang your hat here, I am sure if you look at the gazillions of posts throughout the 3fc board you will find a place to make you happy and successful! But we'd like you to keep in touch.
Cheri - do those water pills ever bother you, side effects, discomfort? I've taken them for PMS WW and felt like my kidneys and bladder were being wrung out to dry! Does that happen to you? I hear ya re: passwords - they make me nuts!
Cathy - congrats on the -2! Don't forget to post that on WIW!
Glory B - a 91 lb loss! WOW! I am so impressed! Someone should put a flag up at WW that this is the place people are successful. I'm sorry you've hit a plateau of sorts, but gosh, what a tremendous success you've had!
Beachfan - I reread the book a lot too - everytime I do I find something else I didn't understand that I do now, etc.
Jan - see my note above about the fat intake. Looks liek we're in the same boat.
Deb - you'd love this. As a fellow tag sale enthusiast (only during the warm months here, of course), I just recently discovererd thrift shops. On SAt, between hockeys of course, I wandered into one in town that I never really noticed until a friend told me about it. Well, DH had "outgrown" his ski bibs and was shopping for a new pair - ya know, like $150 or so...well this shop had 3 pairs, one of them brand new - cost us 12.50!!! I love that!
Quilter - Do you work for Time Warner? I used to...in NYC ....worked for HBO in its infancy (was I stupid to leave there, or what, altho I went to NBC, not a bad tenure there...) and then for the CEO of Time Inc, Gerry Levin....was it Gerry Levin or the other guy? Anyway, what amazes me is all the guys I worked with are incredibly successful - they were in sales for HBO at the time, now they are VPS, CEOs, etc....I love that Ezekeil bread too - makes a sandwich a real treat! Ive got some at work with me today!
Big O - Sorry about that H20 heater thing. Thought I had a similar issue. Tried to take a quick nap in the family room yesterday, on the couch. The basement water heater is right below....I kept hearing this loud buzzing, thought the H20 heater was going to blow up. Went to the basement and stood there for 20 minutes....nothing happened. 3 hours later, discovered it was DHs beeper that got stuck in the couch cushions! LOL!!! Could you post the jellorecipe - it sounds yummy, but how does that then mess with your calories from fat??? I'm very concerned about this issue...
Barbee - see, I knew ya had connections up here! Fairfield is about 2 hours south of us, on Connecticut's Gold Coast. We are in the Currier and Ives northern part of the state - Fairfield is really New York, ya know! So, when we're in Orlando in March, can your son arrange a meeting for my kids with NSync or Backstreet? (Just kidding, just a bit of NY chutzpah, ok???_)
Mary - thanks for the good thoughts. Hopefully things will simmer down a bit for now with my dad. Hmmmm, that taboulleh salad sounds good....think I'll dig out somerecipes..
Overcome - I hear ya abou tthe cheating and the M&M thing. Good for you to toss them, altho I would do so with some sadness. I mean, can I ever enjoy that kind of junk again?>
I have yakked way too much! I'll check back throughout the day - time for oatmeal!

cmd4joy 02-12-2001, 10:10 PM I haven't even begun to read all the posts since Friday morning.
The 60's party for my hubby was loads of fun. Except..... I blew it big time. I had absolutely no control of my eating for the entire day on Saturday, but yesterday pulled in the reins. And Saturday evening I was wondering why I had a bigtime headache. DUH!!!! And the poison I ate didn't taste all that good either. I hope one day of blowing it didn't set me back any. I know my body is really retaining fluids this morning, so I'm going to drink lots of water and watch it really good.
Okay, now that I've confessed and gotten that off my chest and made public reaffirmation.... I'm off to see what everyone was up to this weekend!
Hugs,

amseraphim 02-12-2001, 10:20 PM HELLO ALL!!!!!!!
I humbly apologize for not posting in a while. I do try to keep up with most the posts, but I must admit, it's hard for me at times :(
I am into my 6th week of SB and I am having a struggle - mainly weight wise. Up until 2 weekends ago, I would say I have been 99% legal. Feb 3 I went to a shower.... nothing there was legal. YES.... I fell off the wagon. I jumped back on though. I felt like crap, though, for a few days after that-physically. I get into ruts that I am eating the same old foods..ughhhhhhh!!!! Then this weekend I was naughty Fri nite and Sat night!!! Fri night had 2 cheesesticks and white zin wine. Sat..... :( I ate 1/2 a sourdough roll, had a bloodymary, and a glass of merlot... BOOO HOOOOOOO. SOMEBODY STOP MEEEEE. I say all this to say that my weight loss has stalled. It had stalled before I started feeling uneasy and less motivated. I am NOT going to give up. BUT PLEASE, I need some encouragement and support. Basically I have lost 8 lbs over all. I started at 140 and now am at 132. I am 5ft tall. Ok.....I must tell you all this. I have NOT started an exercise program. This is probably where my problem lies. But guess what is sitting in my livingroom, ready to be unboxed and unleashed???? A treadmill, yes that is my Valentine's gift from my DH. (Trying to figure out how to be romantic on that treadmill for Valentine's Day, HA) Sorry, humor always seems to be therapeutic for me.
All of you are inspirations for me. Your dedication to yourselves, and to here. It is still hard to me to reply back to each individual post. That makes me feel intimidated at bit....please be patient with me.
I do want to wish CYSNEA a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
I will go search for a motivational tip and come back later!!!!! Thanks for letting me ramble.

My Motivational Quote is archived on the motivational board but since many of you seem to be struggling with either staying on track or coming back on the wagon, I thought it would be appropriate:
___________________
Begin Again
One of the best things we can do in our lives is this: Begin again
Begin to see yourself as you were
When you were the happiest and strongest you have ever been.
Begin to remember what worked for you
(and what worked against you),
And try to capture the magic again.
Begin to remember how natural it was when you were a child--To live a lifetime in each day.
Begin to forget the baggage you have carried with you for years:
The problems that don't matter anymore,
The tears that cried themselves away,
And the worries that are going to wash away
On the shore of tomorrow's new beginnings.
Tomorrow tells us it will be here every new day of our lives;
And if we will be wise,
We will turn away the problems of the past
And give the future -- and ourselves -- a chance to become the best of friends.
Sometimes all it takes is a wish in the heart to let yourself...BEGIN AGAIN.
______________
Melf: Debbie posted a great GI list on the recommended reading and website board. It is from the GI Institute and should help you understand the GI factor.
Viv: I have nestle carnation no sugar added hot chocolate when I have a chocolate craving. HFS stands for Health Food Store. As far as the fat goes, I tried to keep my total saturated fat grams to under 20. That IS higher than most nutritionist recommend but it worked for me and allowed me to eat cheese and peanut butter etc. The SB authors recommend 30%carbs, 30%fat, and 40% protein as your balance. Check out the tips and tools board where Debbie explains this in detail.
Amseraphim: BEGIN AGAIN and just put the last couple of weeks behind you. Be patient and you will do well. You can do this and we are all pulling for you.
Well have to run.

Rhroo 02-12-2001, 11:41 PM Good Monday Morning!
I was in NO mood to excersise this morning-I totally blew it yesterday and new I had to do something to recover-and i was having an awsome week. Yesterday started off with no breakfast-my second big problem-first one was getting to bed way to late because i went out to see hubbys band play! So much for fun. Well no breakfast lead to a half way decent lunch but the sugar monster was released after my nap when i got home from work-i did skip deserts at church lunch but i did grab some of those full of sugar conversation hearts!!!! Third mistake!!! Anyway thanks for the motivation about Starting over! Its a new day (to bad my weigh in at WW is tomorrow!) I did go to the scale on Fri. and i was back to where i was 2 weeks ago, but maybe someone is looking out for me!!! I will lose something tomorrow! Postive attitudes help right!
Everyone sounds soooo busy. Everyone sounded like they had full week ends.
I think i read somewhere in my Sugar Buster life that Dove Dark Chocolate is legal. I am not sure but if your desperate try that. I am lucky or unlucky to have a store here that sells the 70% choc. If any of you get that desperate send me a check i get ya some!! Its the Bittersweet dark stuff i think. Keep it up-we are all worth it! I took some pics with my new suede pants on! wooo hoooo!! I have to pat myself on the back i did control my alchol intake on Saturday night and did not feel one bit bad about it!!! I still had a great time! I guess that is another reason for yesterday! LOL Hope i get to post again this week sometime this work thing is cramping my style! :D
BIGORANGEBABEATWORK 02-13-2001, 02:33 AM Ann,
I haven't started my exercise program because I haven't been able to get my treadmill...NOW I KNOW WHY.....IT'S BEEN DELIVERED TO YOUR HOUSE!!!!
GET ON IT GIRL....I get an excuse every day on why mine hasn't been delivered...ONE DAY!!
country 02-13-2001, 03:01 AM What a beautiful day! The sun is shining here, the snow and ice are melting. Our computer sits by a south window and the sun is shining in on me - feels soooo good.
Don't have anything for Motivational Monday, but I got motivated. I had to have a blood test this morning, (Allergist called Fri. and said my blood test showed I may have hypothyrodism so had to have another test done) so while I was in town I decided today was a good day to get started back at Curves (circuit training). I haven't been there since probably July. It felt good. While I was there, I was talking to one of the owners about Sugar Busters and the 3FC site. She wrote down the info and tomorrow I am taking her my SB book to read. I will also be getting weighed and measured - one more way for me to keep motivated.
Carol101 - Hope you continue to improve. What a bummer.
Barbee - Quincy? Neat. I am originally from Burlington, IA. Lived in Colchester 12 years now.
Big O - Thanks for the tip on cleaning out the water heat. We had to get a new one about a year ago, so I will definitly mark the calendar for regular cleaning.
Overcome - Good for you on throwing out the M & M's. I have only been doing SB for a week now, and don't feel like I can trust myself to cheat even the slightest with sweets - not even legal ones. We were at a car show yesterday, and one of the booths had a bowl of Tootsie Rolls. I instinctively started to reach for one, but a little voice stopped me. Instead, I snacked on an orange that I had with me. I also took some Triscuits because I knew it was going to be a long time between breakfast and lunch.
I have another food question. Is this "legal"? Hodgson Mill Cracked Wheat Hot Cereal. Ingredients are "100% whole wheat, including all the wheat bran and wheat germ" - thats all. 100 Cal, total fat 1g, 26g total carb., 8g fiber, 0 sugar 4g protein.
Gotta get ready for work. Catch everyone tomorrow.

Also, went to a HFS looking for Agave Nectar. Still can't locate any in my area. shucks! This paricular HFS had a SB sandwich shope so I picked a tuna sandwich on WW bread with sprouts . DELICH!!!! Daughter had pizza & I didn't even want a bite!!

beachfan37 02-13-2001, 05:33 AM Hi Everyone...
I know Viv posted a note about a bad computer virus running rampant at her work. This is an alert that it is running rampant everywhere. If you get an email that is suppose to be a picture of Anna Kournikova the tennis star don't open it and don't download the picture. It is the virus. For a while I just wouldn't download much of anything until the virus scans are updated.

So, with the chat room now raring to go, we need to choose one day of the week that we do an organized chat. In the past it was Monday, then we changed it to Thursday, best time we found was 9:30-10:00pmEST. I will e-mail everyone and would like your input so we can schedule a chat tentively for next week. Until then, would anyone be interested in doing in impromtu chat on Thursday night at 9:30pm EST?? At least to see if the chat room works okay. Just to let you know, it does take a bit of time for it to hook in, so do be patient :)
Okay, back to some normal stuff - got in my 5 miles today, ran a few errands, nothing exciting. My Mom's friend makes this zuchinni dish that's to die for, I ate probably about 3lbs on this dish and gave a smidgen to Micahel-wish she had made more. She just sautees onions, garlic, zuchinni, & tomatoes with some salt, pepper and oregano. I topped it with some grated Romano cheese - delicious! I can't eat a whole salad, but I can easily polish off a ton of this stuff!!
MEL, there are 2 listings for the GI index, one glucose based, the other is sugar based. SB follows the GLUCOSE NUMBERS as the baseline (equals to 100). As for TURNIPS, they are considered to have a very high rating on the GI. Try to look for agave nectar near where the honey and syrups are in your HFS-honey isn't SB legal, unless you are using a small amount and when you break down the recipe it has only 3grams of sugar or less in each serving size. Isn't tabuolli wonderful! I can't imagine it with tuna, I'd be outsted from the house if I tried that, but we make it here at home the regular way.
CHERI, thanks for posting that motivational thought!!
CATHY, congrats on that loss, I pray I will be saying the same thing (at least) on Wednesday! Honestly, I would suggest you try and stay away from the chocolate, at least for a while. In Montignacs book, he okays it for maintenance, whereas SB says it's okay to use at anytime -actually, you are limited to eating chocolate to 3 times a week 1/2 ounce each time. BUT, I personally think at the beginning, it's better to give your body sufficient time to get all the sugar out of your system. This comes from a chocoholic! The agave nectar would most likely be found near the syrups and honeys - ask if you don't see it!! No gents active on this board, but I am sure they are lurking - maybe they don't want to come on and be known as a chicklet/chick! LOL!!! http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//lol.gif But seriously, I'd welcome any that wanted to join us!
MSLIZ, sounds so great to see how motivated you are. I hope you get your WW info soon! The motivational thought was good - no matter where it came from!!
BIGO, the sickies are getting better, Sharon left early this afternoon to go home, Eli is working a long night, he has floor cleaning til gosh knows when, then another full day tomorrow!
VIV, that must be a typo in Weils book, just as there is one in the SB book, as they give fresh apricots a 10 on the GI, it is actually 57!! They copied this info from Brand-Miller's book, which had a typo, and left out the 5, showing only 7 for fresh apricots - so not checking their copying the writers of SB took that 7 and rounded it to 10! But yes, watermelon is NOT SB legal! He is right about the pasta, the less you cook it, the lower GI it has. #2 - LOL!!! HFS is HEALTH FOOD STORE, just easier to put it like so than keep taping it out on the keys. #3 I don't have those cravings, but some of the gals do drink some of the Carnation Hot Cocoa which helps. While you are in Boca, there is a store somewhere up there that sells the Carbolite Ice Cream, you should see if you can find it (ask your friend before you come) and maybe they will have some chocolate! BUT, if you really want a piece of chocolate, just make sure you get some that has higher than a60% cocoa content and just have a 1/2 ounce piece. #4 It's not like you can't have chocolate, but you have to make the choice of how you handle the situation. For Xmas we received a nice box of Godiva chocolates, it didn't even phase me. When my parents went to France, they went out of their way to find my most favorite candy bars (not available in the States) and here it is, months later and they are still sitting in my cupboard, all 6 of them!!!!! #5 Fat, I just make sure I try not to get more than 40 grams. It's not hard to do. I too love thrift stores, but I have so much junk, I haven't been going to them lately. You got a great buy!!!
JOY, sounds like you and hubby had a great time! Hoping that being it's Monday you are finding your way back on track. Thanks for the heads up on the sale site, good for those who can't readily find things near them!
AMSER, so you fell off the wagon, but you climed back on. It doesn't sound as bad as a you probably think it was. Plus, remember, sourdough IS okay to eat!!! I too am on a stall, sort of. I am the same exact weight I was last month, just going up and down a few pounds-this happens. It will start to move down, trust me - those of us who have been following this WOE know patience is one of the keys to success!! Exercise will definitely help! Break that new treamill in on Wednesday, then really break it in with a good walk on it Thursday! Don't ever feel intimidated by not posting to each person individually, it's not something that is mandatory, nor is it always easy for everyone to do-just your presence and participation on the board is enough to be a part of it-in any capacity, you are always a part of this group!
BEACH, thanks for reposting that Motivational Thought - it's a good one! Glad to see you are staying below 140 - hope I will be able to say that soon as well.
RHROO, you're back on track, that's what's important, the past is behind you. Good luck at WW tomorrow, maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised. If not, you know what you need to do to turn things around. Don't worry about being back where you were 2 weeks ago, I'm back where I was 1 month ago!! I don't know much about the Sugar Bust for Life and what they deem as legal, but I did read that the authors of SB don't endorse that book and what they deem as lbeing egal. Maybe you can find if Dove has a website and see if they can tell you what the cocoa % content is for the dark chocolate. Finding SB legal chocolate isn't easy around my area, which is good!!!!
COUNTRY, glad to hear you are going back to Curves. You should be proud of yourself for going back, keep it up. Hodgson Mill Cracked Wheat Hot Cereal is fine, enjoy it!
MEL, sorry it's hard for you to find the agave nectar, hopefully you'll find some somewhere soon. You sandwich sounds yummy!!!
Well gals, I'm going to go for a few hours, and I'll check in with youall after Everyone Loves Raymond.
Please remember TOMORROW IS TUESDAY TIPS so if you have any good tips, please post them tomorrow.
Later!!

Barbee 02-13-2001, 06:52 AM I am reading through the posts and came to the one about the computer virus. You would not believe what happened at school today.
Noticed this email -- there are so many people in the school district -- but did not open it. I sent the person a email saying I did not know who they were and was I suppose to. Well the first email came under Pam Leverty -- then the second one came under Pam Hughes
I was trying to email our computer tech who was on campus today. Would not work. Then I clicked over to the gal's name that I teach with, She had 130 names on there - all Ann baby. This person got into Volusia County School District and is wiping out computers like crazy. It is nuts.
Weather this morning was really nice -- this whole week is supposed to be in the 80"s. Yeh - right. It got up to maybe 65 - cloudy -- extremely dense fog - fog right now also. and it is 52 -- what the heck is going on.
Weight is up a little bit -- no biggie.
Karen - checked out your bio -- do you not have a email address?
You were talking about your mother being in the home in Monroe and it is only for alzheimer patients There is only one there like that isnt there? Well, my good friend -- librarian at Freeport Junior High - Gloria Moeller -- her mom is there. This is getting kind of strange here. My mother died of complications fro Alzheimer and so did my mother -in=- law. Now my one aunt has it. It is a horrible thing -- people just can not imagine how horrible it really is. My mom looked like a million dollars but know anyone and that is the hardest part.
Sorry about my ramblin. Those of you that are using fitday.com -- how the heck do you get it to work? I just can not be that dumb!
Take care - Congrats to the losses - everyone hang in there.

belinda 02-13-2001, 06:52 AM In honor of Valentine's Day, here's a site with chocolate reviews AND percentages of "chocolate solids" I don't know if that's the same thing as cocoa but its something http://tchester.org/tc/chocolate.html
This looked good too and has cocoa % http://www.winddance.com/InfoPages/DaleStuart/Chocolate_Table.html
Also, DH and I were getting viruses in e-mails today NOT the Anna Kourikova virus. The subject is "Here you go ;)" or something like that. DH got it from my dad and I got it from someone I didn't know but we both had advance warning and didn't open them.
I've been a bad SB'er today. But as Scarlett O'hara said (and this is my Motivational Monday contribution)
***Tomorrow is Another Day!***
I'll plug in later,
Belinda

cmd4joy 02-13-2001, 07:35 AM I've had a nice, peaceful SB day! It's Lincoln's Birthday, and a State of California Holiday. Today is also our 19th wedding anniversary, and we're having grilled shrimp, brown rice, and salad, and maybe a nice glass of Merlot.
I did blow it on Saturday, but the headache that resulted was just punishment. Beach, thank you for the motivational poem. I needed that today. I have so much to be healthy for.... my first grandchild in May, and mostly for myself!!!
If anyone has any recipes they'd like the calorie/carb/fat/protein for, I'd be happy to put them in my Master Cook program and tell you those details. It certainly helps me when i'm posting on FitDay. Let me know!!!
Have a nice evening!!!

JanCan 02-13-2001, 07:37 AM Hi All,
It’s been a challenging week-end, food-wise as me and my hubby just celebrated our 14st
anniversary (!!!) but I pulled through it ok by ditching the “All or Nothing Additude”. Look forward to the routine of the week.
Big Orange... The apple bit is based on the theory that if you eat a complex carbo. Before bed that you’ll have a ‘restful’ sleep. For me it seems to promote lovely dreams with Brad Pitt in them. Drag about the water heater.
Deb... How did your Sunday go? Tell me about the fat grams! According to fitday my daily fat intake is up to 40%.
Cathy...Good work with passing on the chocolate cake and the 2 lb. Loss. HaPpY dAnCe !!!
Barbee... It’s sure nice to hit a different decade, eh? Congratz on the 189.5!!!
Carol... You go, girl! I’ll send lots of encouraging thought your way. Good to hear your healing.
Viv... What’s with us and the high fat intake, I too thought that I was doing really well. I’m going to choose to focus on the sugar first, as that triggers my over-indulgence.
Beachfan... Like your “Being Again” bit. Printing it out to post in my kitchen. Thanks!
Great that we have the chat room,eh?
Enjoy the week,

THE BIG ORANGE BABE 02-13-2001, 07:41 AM EVENING LADIES,
VIRUS::: also one subject line HAHAHA and one SNOW WHITE...These got loose in one of my Tennesse message boards, and took over the complete bank shot of addresses...It was terrible...
BARB: I told you don't feel bad..I can't do it either..surely someone will feel sorry for us old broads and explain in detail!
DEB...I can't buy ANYMORE CHOCOLATE!!!! Yep..it's gone! AND I'M NOT EVEN A CHOCOLATE LOVER OR SORTS!!!
That dish sounds wonderful..I'll have to give it a whirl. I'm going to have to quit eating any kind of meat for a little while. I just feel so out of sorts and overly full lately when I eat it. I've bought a great Vegetarian cook book from WW's and plan to try out some of those recipes. I'll post some as I go along. ALSO completely cutting out SOURDOUGH BREAD... NOW THAT I'M ADDICTED TO!!!
For all you chocolate lovers, check out the new show on the FOOD NETWORK entitled FOLLOW THAT FOOD..this weeks version for Valentine's Day is all about chocolate! I watched last night, and it's very interesting.
MELF..Just read an article in this month's Prevention magazine about eating broccoli sprouts on your sandwich instead of lettuce.
The sandwich they made sounded really good.
I'll post it later.
DEB: Thursday night sounds good to me. I haven't tried to get in the room yet. Have been having trouble with java chat..get a message saying that I need to enable...IT IS!
Any ideas?
So glad to hear the "puny people" in your house are better. I hope Eli doesn't run himself down. He'll just get sick again!
Tonight is WESTMINSTER DOG SHOW...If you've never watched, it's a wonderful show for dog lovers..USA channel at 8pm
With that, better get reclined...Skeeter likes to watch so I need to stock up the dog cookies to keep him happy...Nothing to eat or drink for the "fat boy" after 10pm...Surgery tomorrow morning...Dream good thoughts for him...
karen3000 02-13-2001, 08:01 AM Hi all - I just have a few minutes before I take my son to basketball practice.
Barbee - I didn't put my e-mail address in the bio because I didn't want any unscrupulous marketers to add it to their lists. Ever since I started bidding at EBay, I get SO much spam. If you haven't found that it's a problem here (I know it's none of the people that use the board for its intended purpose who are the spammers), then I will edit the bio and put it in. Do you know your friend's mother's name? There are three units, so my mom may not be in the same one as she is in. It was a year last October and I still can't get used to the idea. She still knows us, but just isn't capable of living alone (my dad died in 1982).
Got to go - hope everyone has a good night and great week!

The Quilter 02-13-2001, 09:43 AM Hi Gals!
CHERI---Did I ever tell you where it is my bro lives? He’s in Fortville, IN which is right outside of Indianapolis. The are on the north east side of the city. Just past the Gueist Reservoir. Have you heard of that? Maybe you and I can meet up someday. We could find a nearby Starbucks and have one of their groovy legal coffees. Sorry that you had to re-register and all that. But we’re glad you did. Are you a night owl or a person who works odd shifts? When I stay up til 2 a.m. I need the rest of the weekend to recover. Also, I enjoyed your motivational Monday. I’m gonna keep dancing even with two left feet.
CATHY---Applause for the 2 pound loss. Way to go and on the heels of a weekend no less. Awesome!!! I’ve got my fingers crossed that your DH jumps aboard sometime real soon. It makes a huge difference. My honey is on it with me and he’s lost 11 pounds since January 2. Tonight when I got home, he was already hard at work cooking chicken breasts and had even SLICED UP MUSHROOMS, ONIONS, AND PEPPERS to go with the meat. Wow!!! I was shocked, but very appreciative. So I’m sending good thoughts your way for hubby to get with it. The important thing is that he join when he’s ready and then he’ll be ready to tackle the job.
CYNSEA---Happy Birthday! You don’t look a day older.
VIV---Okay, girl, sit down, put your feet up, grab a cup of coffee and hear me out. This weekend (Starting on Thursday) I splurged. At the Mardis Gras party, I drank two vodkas and grapefruit juice and ate ice cream and two chocolate chip cookie type things. Well, let me tell you, my cravings since then have been through the roof. For the past three days, I have been thinking way too much about food. Thoughts of illegal snacks have been creeping into my brain space and I’m driving myself nuts about it. Since there was nothing illegal in the house to eat over the weekend, I kept going back to a piece of toast of a handful of triscuits. And that was just not happening BEFORE my binging. So anyways, I say, do what you want, but know that the cravings will very certainly return. The sugar really is not a good thing and will stick with you for longer than those few moments of bliss as it hits your tongue. Remember the old saying, “Nothing tastes as good as losing weight feels!” I’ll get off my soap box. Don’t mean to sound bossy, but I just want you to be successful and happy with your efforts. Viv you made me LOL when you said that you took back your digital scale and bought the old kind. Too funny. I’d have done the same thing. BTW, no I don’t work for Time Warner. They are just really supportive of the non-profit I work for. They really do a great work here in Cinti and all over the country. That’s really interesting that you worked for all the big guys when they were in sales. Guess they learned a lot from you and that’s what got them so successful. I also loved your story about the beeper stuck in the couch. When DH has his set on vibrate and it’s sitting on a hard surface, it scares me clean out of my skin.
AMSERAPHIM---Yes, we will be patient with you. Remember this board is here to help you, not to give you something to feel guilty about. (Did that make sense????) Anyways, I’m been where you are so many times. And it’s absolutely miserable. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stick with it. Know that my fingers are crossed for you hoping for great things this week. Just think of this, at 132 you are only 2.5 pounds away from being in the 120’s. YOU GO GIRL!!!! That’s an awesome place to be. Try making that a mini goal. Just to stay on track and start exercising to make it to the 120’s. Then you’ll be back on track and that success will lead to more success. That’s great that you got a treadmill for your VDay present. Enjoy!
RHROO---Suede pants????? Way to go!!!! That sounds absolutely wonderful. I’m green with envy. (Not really, just terribly happy for you!) Keep posting. I miss you when you are not on. You always manage to say something that I’ve been thinking. Hmmmm.
JOYOUS CONNIE---Thanks for the tip about the sale. I will definitely check that out. And happy anniversary. Your dinner sounds yummy.
DEB---Count me in for Thursday night. I’ve never done a chat, so this will be new and exciting. That zuchini sounds so good. Did she use canned tomatoes?
ORANGE---If you are looking for vegetarian recipes, try looking at Curtis Aikens site. That’s all he does is vegetarian. His motto is that if it had a face, it might have been a date. (I guess he’s referring to past lives or something.) Anyways, there is some good stuff on there. Thanks for reminding me about the Westerminster. I’m kicking myself that it’s 9:45 and I’ve missed most of it. EEEEK. I have no brain and even less memory. Hope all goes well with Skeeter.
Gotta fly girls. The doggies are calling me. Hope we didn’t miss the group with the German Shepherds. My Maddie girl likes to see who’s on with them.
Take care.

amseraphim 02-13-2001, 10:57 AM Hi fellow chicks and chicklets :)
Thanks so much for your positive feedback about my previous post.
Anna... that was nice of you to share Begin Again. I may just have to print that ;) Thanks for your support as well. BTW, I have a brother that lives in Pelham, AL - small world, huh.
Connie...hugs*** to you for your words of inspiration too. Good thing I have lots of windows to throw the regrets out of, http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//lol.gif
Big O... If you want, I will ship my TM on down to you. I would much rather have jewels for Valentines Day, LOL ( Don't tell my DH that, though)
Debbie... what IS patience???
Kim.... I like your attitude and positiveness. Only 2.5 lbs til the 120's - wooohoooo!!!!! That sounds so rewarding.
Well.... it's time for good ole Law and Order here. Hope everyone has a good night's sleep. Happy Sugarbuster dreams!!

overcome 02-13-2001, 11:15 AM Hi all-
The cable modem is working great..fast fast fast. I highly recommend it. Since Napster may be closing, my DH is downloading like crazy.
I have so much I want to say and no time!! I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts. So interesting.
Are we really ALL eating too much fat? Seems many ppl (like me) using Fitday feel they have too much fat. What's up with that?
Here's a link to my public journal on Fitday if anyone would like to comment or compare...

Wish I had more time to post :( Won't have time tomorrow either. See you on Valentine's Day!

cheri45 02-13-2001, 12:20 PM Hi everyone! I had a pretty good day today even thought I had to go into fitday a couple of times to change the plans I made last night for today. Oh, well. It all worked out anyway.
Kim: I do know where Geist Reservoir is. Not too far from here. My daughter-in-law has an uncle that lives over there. It would be great if we could get together sometime. I live in Castleton, near the Fishers area. It's true that I am a night owl. At least at the moment. The company that I worked for closed it's doors. So I am looking for something at the moment just not looking really hard yet :D
Debbie: Thursday evening at 9:30 sounds fine with me too. I have never been on a chat line either except for ICQ.
Again, thanks everyone for all of the motivation. Have a great SB day!

Debelli 02-13-2001, 08:05 PM Morning Everyone!
Well, I'm feeling a bit fried today, mentally and physically! I am getting sick, what Eli & Sharon had it seems. Don't need this with my nephew's B/M coming up this Saturday-and I pray my kids don't catch this. Feeling weird and my it's already attacking my voice, sounding like a frog. Not sure if I will have it in me to even walk today  Also, the scale is way up, which also depresses me. Looking back always before my period (due Sat., lucky me) I lose, and here I am going up, up and away from my low of 138. I know it will go back down, but hey, why not throw a pity party!?! I always feel that if I were cheating, at least I would have something to blame it on, but I'm not, and I'm keeping track of what I eat, and I see no reason for this gain, which is why after this past week of being up, I get annoyed. As I've said in the past when this has happened, I won't change a thing and will venture on, but sometimes, I just need to vent. I guess enough said.
TODAY IS TUESDAY FACTS and there has been a lot of talk about chocolate lately. Here's an interesting tidbit I found:
Some women keep track of their menstrual cycles not with a check mark on the calendar, but with candy bar wrappers. So says Debra Waterhouse, a registered dietician and author of Why Women Need Chocolate. According to Ms. Waterhouse, monthly cravings aren't something to battle, but a "blessing." She explains, "When you're craving a particular food, your body is telling you what you really need. Eat what you want to eat, just don't overdo it."
Ms. Waterhouse describes the reasons why women crave chocolate or fatty foods before their periods. After ovulation the level of serotonin in the brain goes down, producing a drop in mood and energy. Serotonin is a brain chemical linked to feelings of calmness and mood stability. Sugar, she says, boosts serotonin levels. The urge to eat it premenstrually is a natural response.
Along with the premenstrual dip in serotonin levels, Ms. Waterhouse maintains that the body's endorphin levels also fall. Endorphins are also brain chemicals associated with a lift in spirits and energy. "There's an endorphin surge at ovulation that lasts about 48 hours," says Ms. Waterhouse. "For the two weeks after ovulation, your body and brain are trying to restore that high endorphin level:" Chocolate is the perfect combination of fat and sugar needed to increase both serotonin and endorphin levels, she says.
"In the past, food cravings were viewed as a sign of weakness, something we had to find the willpower deep in the soul to overcome. In fact, it's to our benefit to trust our bodies and appreciate the food messages they're giving us," says Ms. Waterhouse.
For women with PMS, the idea that chocolate is okay in limited doses may seem to fly in the face of what has been standard advice for years: avoid chocolate, especially during the premenstrual phase. "It's not a black and white issue," says Stephanie Bender, Director of Full Circle Women's Health in Boulder, Colorado.
Specific cravings for chocolate and cravings for sweets in general are different, says Ms. Bender. "Women who simply have sugar cravings can address that by having more frequent small feedings. They need to be grazers," she says. She continues, "But when a woman says clearly, `I want chocolate,' we may be looking at someone who actually needs more magnesium."
Ms. Bender leans towards examining a woman's need for magnesium if she reports craving chocolate, but she called the possible relationship between chocolate and the body's production of endorphins and serotonin "fascinating." "The whole area of the marriage between endocrine glands, neurotransmitters like serotonin, and hormones is so unexplored. It deserves our attention and respect."
Research shows that a "dose response" can also be helpful in managing food cravings, says Janine Clifford Murphy, a registered dietician with the Nutrition Consultation Service at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. "When we're craving sweets, a penny candy can be just the thing. We don't need the whole 65-cent candy bar to alleviate the craving," she says.
A "dose" of ten potato chips has only 100 to 150 calories and about 9 grams of fat," she explains. "That's not going to kill anybody or make them gain five pounds, but sitting with a bag of chips in front of the television is a dangerous habit." She continues, "Food cravings are legitimate. Women shouldn't feel guilty about them. I tell women to count out ten chips, have them with their sandwich, and crunch and enjoy every bite."
"If a woman honestly says, `I can easily buy one tiny morsel of chocolate and be satisfied,' I'm not going to say she should never do that," Ms. Bender states. She also notes that chocolate isn't the only way to raise serotonin levels. "A snack of complex carbohydrates will do the same thing," she says.
In general, a healthy PMS diet recommends avoiding chocolate in order to keep feeling your best. On days when cravings seem especially strong, be sure to eat six small meals to keep your blood sugar and energy levels up.
If you do "fall off the wagon" and go for the chips or chocolate, don't be too hard on yourself. After a dietary slip, it's best not to starve yourself later. Getting back on track with your healthy PMS diet of high carbohydrate, low fat meals will make you feel better than any other form of calorie-cutting penance.
BARBEE, I'm way up too, so you're in good company. Fitday isn't hard to navitage, just go to the foods area, put in your foods and it figures everything out for you. You can put in custom foods as well.
BELINDA, thanks for the chocolate links, I think we have one of them up there, but if not, I will add them in when I get a chance.
MISSGRACE, let us know which recipes you end up trying, and how they turned out.
JOY, hope you had a HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Can your master cook program scale down a recipe. I have the recipe from Ole Ole for their salad dressing, but it's a large quantity and I want to scale it down for home use.
JANCAN, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to you too! Is that 14 or 41?? Your fat grams should be 30% or less of your daily intake. If you check out the TIPS & TOOLS BOARD, there is a good explanation on how to figure this all out :D
BIGO, have no idea about that message you get for the java, I'm computer stupid! If you still have trouble, we can e-mail Suzanne and ask her.
QUILTER, will e-mail you later in regards to your e-mail and Naples. The dish uses fresh tomatoes :)
AMSER, at this time, I am testing that patience that is little known!! Thank goodness I have more patience with this WOE than I do with my kids!!
OVERCOME, I looked at your fitday. I don't think you are generally eating too much fat. Looks like too little calories on some days, but it seems to average out pretty well.
Well gals, I've got to go, I need to get Lauren up (I've only called her 10 times) and then to school. I feel nauseaus http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//sick.gif and don't think that walk is going to happen at this point, more like climb into bed!
So, we'll do a TEST CHAT on Thursday Night, 9:30pm eastern time to see how it goes - sound good????
I'll check in later!!

MsLiz1956 02-13-2001, 08:14 PM Happy Tuesday, fair ladies!
Got my WW stuff yesterday - wow, do I have a lot to learn! I finished my first day "over budget" already. :( The whole points thing is a bit overwhelming, but I really think it will help point out my weaknesses...
COUNTRY - urgent, urgent!!! visit my website and read the article I did on hypothyroidism!! I believe the link is on my bio page. I learned the hard way! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.
ABOUT THE CHAT ROOM - anybody interested in a daytime yak? I'm only online during weekdays usually. Good thing I have a cool boss. I'm not getting much done these days!
TUESDAY TIP - I keep a "motivational page" hanging where I'm staring at it most of the day. On it are my goals, before & after pictures of women my age & build who've had the results I'm after, and little tidbits like quotes ("Winners make goals. Losers make excuses").
Have a wonderful day, gals!

I'm home today with fever, sore throat and what I think will be a cold. Hope it is not something worse. Feeling very puny. Deb, I know how you feel :( Remember everything will get better with time. Feeling yucky just doesn't help. I didn't get to excercise yesterday and know I won't today. About to go put my head down and sleep. http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//sleep.gif I highly recommend it to you too! Sometimes just giving into feeling bad and sleeping the day away is the only answer.
See ya'll tomorrow.
amseraphim 02-13-2001, 10:12 PM Happy Tuesday Ladies ;)
I was concerned when I read Big O's message about not getting into chat, so I did a test run!!!! Thank the Lord, I got in with no problem :D

elliebellie 02-13-2001, 11:10 PM Good morning gals, Sorry to hear that some of you are feeling bad! Mike & I both feel like we're coming down with something too, so we're taking lots of echinachea. Coleman was gunko boy last weekend, he had pink eye, an ear infection and croup. Other than that he was great. Looks like its clearing up, and he'll be fine for his 3rd b'day party this weekend. Yep, I'm making one of my shape cakes, I think I'll make it in the shape of a little boy.
wish y'all lived here in Colorado, I'd invite you to my dud swap, which is scheduled for March 10th. I invite all my women friends over to my house. They clean their closets of all stuff they haven't worn in a year, and we all trade clothes (all shapes and sizes and styles) whatever is leftover is donated to charity, and it's a blast. Now we also have kids clothes and toys.
If anyone is interested, I recently posted my 1st web site. i've been taking classes and am almost finished. Between that and the freelancing and the kids, it's why I haven't posted much lately!
it's at: www.elliedickson.com (http://www.elliedickson.com)
Let me know what you think. I'm a designer and illustrator, so it's a portfolio of my work. It's in the very preliminary stages.
Also haven't posted cuz I've been on a major plateau, gained 2 lbs, and haven't budged in a week.My back went out last week, so I wasn't able to work out, god forbid.
though a good friend saw me on sunday and commented that I looked thinner. so much for the scale! this is my 1st thinner comment, and I've been doing this weight loss thing for 3 months!
but my metabolism has simply ground to a screeching halt, I wonder how much of it is the hypothyroid. I take .175 synthroid per day. I know others on this board have mentioned they do too.
Well, I hope you're all feeling better soon! -ellie
ebabe1955 02-14-2001, 12:11 AM Hi everyone, I have not posted in the past few days so wanted to stop in and say hello. I am hoping everyone feeling bad gets to feeling better!!
I am so excited about this WOL. I started "dabbling" in it 01/10/01. I got serious when someone posted about Fitday and I started logging my food, weight, water and set up a goal. (If you are not using fitday, I highly recommend you do, it keeps up with carbs, fats, proteins, calories.) Because of that commitment and the wonderful group of people here, I have lost 10 pounds since 01/31/01. I know that is fast and that it is water weight, but I have been eating like a queen and I feel better than I have in years.
I realize now that "white food" was literally killing me! My grandma had diabetes, and my dad, sister, uncle and aunt all have diabetes and I knew I was a sitting duck for it. The way I was feeling, makes me sure that I was headed in that direction.
The one thing I have noticed about this WOL is that I have almost no appetite. I can go sometimes six hours without eating and realize oh yeah, my stomach is growling! What a wonderful feeling. I used to wake up hungry, be hungry sometimes just after a high carb meal. Now I wake up and realize that I am only thirsty, drink a big glass of water and wait for hunger which comes around 11:00 or so. My cravings are also gone.
Oh how I wish I had bought this book when it first came out, but I thought no way, I can't live without my sugar, well yes I can, because of no sugar, I AM REALLY LIVING!!!
Sorry this is so long and so full of "I's" :)
But when you get on the scale and 10 pounds are gone and you are getting back into your next size down clothes, and best of all you feel better than you have in years, you just want to shout it to the world!!
Thanks everybody for listening, Debi
(You guys are kinda of a captive audience, you have to listen or you could just scroll by.) lol!

OK, here is the abridged version of that post that I lost. I will try to keep my temper in check!
Had craving at market last nite, bought dark unsweetened chocolate....gag! http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//lol.gif
New scale good, hope to be below 140 within 2 weeks!!
Have Sugar Bust for Life - like it, like the recipes, supports SB.
Big O - thanks for recipe. Will try soon.
Connie - Mastercook is great. Will take you up on offer.
Ann - Like they say on the WW Lifetimers thread: "Take the hit and move on". It's okay - you will succeed!
Beach - Thanks for Sat Fat info. That helps. Take echinacea - 3 capsules 3x day for duration of symptoms. Works awesome.
Rhoo - suede pants. Totally cool. What color?
Country - would love to try Curves. Just can't schedule it right with kids, etc....
Melf - SB Sandwich Shoppe in HFS. You are so lucky!
Barbee - our virus came from a school system too!
Belinda - Here You Go ;) thingy is that Anna Ka...whatever...virus. Same thing. Get rid of it!
Overcome - read your journal. Thank you. You are doing so great on the fat - but I think you need to up the calories a little more....there is a formula for figuring out your basal metabolic rate...which helps yousee how many calories to eat to keep the metabolsim pumped and burn calories....someday I will try to find it and share the info.
Ms. Liz - WW really helps with portion size. It's engrained in my brain!
Quilter - Thanks for the "Cawfee Tawk". Very motivational and I appreciate it. Also I love the mantra "nothing tastes as good as losing weight feels". Awesome. I will remember that one!
Deb - Try sauteed slivered red, yellow and orange peppers with garlic and onion - top with fresh grated parmesan and fresh mozarella ball-thingies....yummy - tastes just like pasta! :laughihg:. See my note to Beach re: echinacea. Take it. It works. Just stick with it. You will lose those lbs (from the looks of it, getting sick helps, eh?). Ww tells you to change your exericse if in a plateau. Maybe swimming or aerobics? I liked the PMS article - I wonder what Birth Control Pills do to ofset that?
Ebabe - I loved your post. It is wonderful that you are so happy and the plan is working for you. Keep up the great work, and post often!
Great about chat - I don't know if I can get on from hoem but will try - how about a weekday, midday chat for us at work?
http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//crying.gif Still very unhappy about losing my post. It was clever and enlightening. Oh well....

Rhroo 02-14-2001, 01:06 AM Tip Tuesday! Hmmmmm.... I really din't have one then as i was making my lunch and reading all your posts i thought of something! LOL My tip is that we are all worth what we are doing! The extra time it takes to plan our meals or the extra money it takes we are worth it! I started today (of couse my gun ho day ww day!) planning better. Came home made some sugar free jello with strawberrys yumm! and made some veggie soup which is "free" on WW! so that was a start. I know it takes extra effort but i want this and i am worth it! Right?! I found that if i make the sugar free jello, pudding ect and take it to work for my break i do better than when i am home with it. I think it does trigger me but i am not home to scrounge up any crap! LOL (wonder what that tastes like?) I WON"T go to that vending machine (people might see me!) so in a controlled situation i am fine. I am also trying to "shake up" my program like i said i need more veggies. And this is also where the planning come into play! Anyway done blabing! WE ARE WORTH IT! :d
Didn't check out if i could get into chat, but nights during the week are not good for me. Maybe we could pop in and see if anyone is around? LOL I would love to get to know you all better-chat is more personal i think, but this board is awsome.
I went and got weighed today! Lost the .8 that i gained last week! UGGG Oh well maybe next week will be the whopper! I need one!!! i know the little numbers add up but right now i am in the negative column! (lost 4.6 then gained 1 lb then the .8!) oh well!
BOB hope ya feel better! Deb too! take some pics at the Barmitza (?) o.k?
amserphim-hope the rooms cleaned up!!! sorry i couldn't help!
Viv-i hate when ya lose a post! UGGGG My suede pants are brown!!! and my sis ordered them from a catalog to boot!!!! didn't even try the suckers on they fit perfect! You are always enlightining!
ellie-sounds like fun!!! i am saving all my big clothes for a friend who is losing also its fun to see her in my stuff!!! sometimes i want it back!! LOL glad the kids are feeling better. Gonna check out your page. You can do this you know you can!!! It just stinks when that thing called "life" gets in the way!!! keep trying don't give up!
Ebabe- I am with ya!!!!! WOOOO HOOOOO on the 10 lbs!!!! It does work, I am also in that catagory with the diabetes i think thats why i have not found it a problem to addapt to this WOE I don't want to get all that medical stuff!!!! I hope that trying to stop it now will help my future!!!! Keep it up!!!!
This is my new favorite motivational saying! "The only one who can stop me is me....and i can take her!"

Hey chat works for me! yeah! also here is another link to the menstration thing Deb talked about! Our funny bodys huh?! Its about low carb and TOM http://members.aol.com/lowcarbs/lowcarblist/faqs/menst.htm
Hey All Quick question (I am still mad at my computer....:mad :)
I was archiving the boards for Deb when I noticed a note that she had been having problems with a plateau after having consumed a decent amount of Splenda - that the maltodextrin (?) might be a problem....
Did anyone ever substantiate or look into that? Deb, did you find it was really interfering with your loss?
Let me know, I've cut out the aspertame and saccharin - Splenda was my new sweetener of choice, but if it interferes with SB successs - YIKES - I want to know!!!

Debelli 02-14-2001, 02:27 AM Hey Gals :)
Well, I'm feeling somewhat better, but Sharon's said this is how she felt before it really hit her. I'm hoping she's wrong! Stepped on the scale again, 139-I've only had a 1/2 pint of raspberries and a few sips of water so far today. Gonna go try and eat a pita pizza after I post.
MSLIZ, glad you got your WW stuff, it will be helpful for you I'm sure. Anytime you want to go and do a chat is fine, it's open 24-7, so maybe you can get some people to meet there at a specified time.
BIGO, you've stumped me, hopefully the computer wiz at work can answer this question for you.
BEACH, I can't have better company-both of us sick and others seeming to follow. I don't have a sore throat, or a stuffy nose, at least not yet. Hope you got some rest, I was sort of in and out of it, but no deep sleep. FEEL BETTER!
AMSER, glad to know chat worked okay with you! Who's putting the TM together, or is it assembled? Get some great music going and put that baby into action-you'll feel great once you get going!
ELLIE, hope you two don't come down with this nasty flu, it's not fun! Glad to hear Coleman will be fine for his 3rd b.day - sounds like you can really bake - I just buy cakes, don't want to poison anyone!LOL! Your DUD SWAP sounds like a blast - wish I knew people down here that wanted to do that. That plateau really isn't a true plateau, when you are up for a month or so, now THAT'S a plateau. It's probably hormonal, it will change soon, don't you worry. Are you sure you are eating enough??
EBABE, WOW, 10lbs is awesome! It's good to hear you are feeling good as well, that's more important then the weight loss. It seems to be quite common for people who start this WOE not to have much of an appetite, but I can't stress enough that you eat enough calories-otherwise your metabolism is going to slow down and you'll stop losing after a while. It's great you are so enthused, we love when people shout out home much they love this WOE, cause we can truly understand how they feel!!! Keep up the great work!
VIV, fresh mozz sounds delicious! I love it. When we use to go to food shows, it's one of the things I looked forward to trying. Beach has told me in the past about exercise plateus, but honestly, I don't enjoy doing anything else but walking-guess I'll suffer through it. VIV, each of us reacts to things we consume differently, so for me, Splenda may be trouble, others, it may not. I would definitely say to limit the Splenda due to the maltodextrin, too much could definintely cause trouble. I had it in excess and it made me gain, at least, that's what I attributed my gain to as nothing else in my WOE had changed up until that time.
RHROO, you are right, we are worth it. Sometimes I buy something, a food, that I think is just too much money, but I know I will like and is good for me. I tell myself, I'm worth it-as I don't indulge for myself very often. You can definintely pop in the chat room at any time and see if anyone is on, it's always open. Glad you are back down, the trend will continue! I am definitely planning on taking pics at the Bar Mitzvah, esp. to finnish up the role from our Orlando meeting, will get them onto a disk and then post some.
Well, I'm outta here again - I'll try and check in later tonight - if I don't come on, you'll know I fell asleep on the couch like I did last night, missed Everyone Loves Raymond :(
Please remember, TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY and I hope and pray everyone has a good weigh in tomorrow!!

thinagin 02-14-2001, 02:58 AM Hey all!
Wow I've been away too long. So many new faces, so many great people. joey (my 4yo just keyed that in) Welcome to everyone. I feel I gotta reintroduce myself.
Susy in Everett. Two kids - gonna have a third in September or thereabouts! So I'm gonna need SB more than ever! I had gestational diabetes with the first two (of course I was chowing on a pint of Ben and Jerry's almost every day!) So now I'm aiming at keeping on SB and staying out of trouble. I know I have a lot to catch up on, but for
now, I'll call it good if I can got on board every day.
So the down side of the pregnancy thing is that pre-pg, I had dropped 2 jeans sizes. I back up one. I have to stay on program though and not get discouraged.
We all think the baby will be a girl. There are foods I craved with the boys and I can't go near them now. This is a steak baby. And no more eggs, only oatmeal for breakfast or I feel oogy all morning.
Well, the youngest is calling to me.
Great to be back and see ya soon.
Susy
Just goota
Oh no.. look who found her way back..! I've been gone sooooo long. Haven't had the time to lurk but have been thinking about everyone.
Scanned the board for a real quick look but need to read to catch up.
My "baby" (21yr. old son) was flown to OK a couple of weeks ago for a job interview with a game development company. Long story short.. they offered him the job and he moved within a week and a half. 1,700 miles away from home is just a little tough for this mom to take. Just the thought of him driving back there turned my hair grey. He got there safely, thank God! Like his parents he is native Californian and has never driven in snow, etc. Living in the heart of the Silicon Valley there is plenty of high tech employment but the cost of living is totally out of range for many. A bare bones one bedroom apt. here would run between $1,500. and $1,700. a month. In Tulsa he has a very deluxe apt. (fireplace, washer & dryer, 24hr gym) for $625. AND NO TRAFFIC... only three blocks from home. Of course it has rained every day since he arrived. Hopefully he is learning to dress warmer (he's a tee shirt and shorts boy).
To add to my despare, on the same day he left for OK... my husband had cataract surgery. At least it took my mind off of my son's long drive..
Looking forward to "beginning again" because I've just been grabbing what I can, when I can as far as eating. Things are settling down now and I look forward to becoming a contributing member of the board once again.
Looking forward to the "chat" on Thursday!

Frog Lover 02-14-2001, 06:31 AM I'm still alive! Have been in a "funk." I think my husband is having his period and will NOT be getting a card from me tomorrow 'cause I'm to P.O.'d to get him one. He's lucky I already bought him a gift!
Tried to get on the other night but was not happening! :( Glad to hear that we're gonna try the "chat thang!"
Dreadin' WIW tomorrow, but thank heavens I didn't consume a whole bottle of whine this weekend, just a glass. Also managed to pass on the "Mama's Knock Ya Naked Margarita Mix." I tasted grumpy's (husband) and they were really good. But I held back.
I haven't exercised in over a week 'cause I've been feeling bad, which just makes you feel worse and keeps ya in that viscious cycle.
As you can see I'm not in the best SB friendly chatty mood so I'll stop complaining and sign-off.
Keep up the good work everybody!
Peace,
Frog

"Unleash Your Feet!"
The Quilter 02-14-2001, 06:38 AM Happy TUESDAY to everyone! I'm so bummed that so many of you are feeling icky. I hope you didn't catch it from me.
EBABE---I was just thinking about you and getting ready to ask where you were. (See you are missed when you don’t write.) Glad to hear about your ten pound loss. That is so wonderful. You are ahead of me by one pound, but I think my weigh in won’t be too spectacular tomorrow. So you may be way in front of me after tomorrow! Good work! You are really motivating me to stay with it.
DEB & BEACH---Sorry to hear you aren’t up to snuff. That sucks. I was just there a couple of weeks ago and there’s nothing to do buy sleep it off. That and get some good prescriptions from dear dr. Also I was talking to this woman today who said she was feeling sick yesterday and left school early. She said she went home and started drinking green tea with TRIPLE echinacea in it. And she seemed perfectly healthy today. Try it. Can’t hurt and will be more liquids running through you.
VIV---Bummer about your lost words. Thanks for reposting. I’d hate to miss your thoughts all because the computer was being snippy. Have you tried to keep a word processing document open at the same time that you are reading through the posts. That’s what I do and then I save after I’m done adding each little bit. Then when I’m ready to post, I just copy and paste the entire document into the reply window. If you save enough, and your computer freezes up or belches or whatever, you’ll still have your thoughts in a document.
RHROO---I, too, like the sugarfree pudding. I have tons of old yogurt containers. So when I make it I dish it into them and then “lid” them and they are ready to roll. Four equal servings are easy to measure when the containers are standing right next to each other. Now I just have to get this whipped cream made by me down right. Because I love pudding and wc together. There really is nothing better. (Okay, maybe a couple of things.) I love your new saying. Mind if I borrow it from time to time???
I found another thing to soothe my aching sweet tooth. For you all who have sworn off the aspertame, you won’t care about this. Sorry to build you up just to let you down. Boom! Anyways, I found chocolate syrup made by Sweet & Low and it has no sugar in it. So I’ve been indulging in a glass of chocolate skimmed milk for an after supper snack. It really is tasty for the chocolate lover and it’s helping me to get my calcium in.
Not much exciting going on around here. I think it’s scrambled eggs for supper. Hubby wanted french toast, but since I’m weighing in in the a.m., I think we’ll pass on the french toast. Ha! Love hearing all your posts. ORANGE, I only got to see the toy group last night and fell asleep during the non sporting group. I was mad at myself for that. So I’m planting the behind in front of the tv tonight so that we (Maddie and I) don’t miss any of it. Hey, how’s Skeeter???? All better???
Take care everyone!

QUILTER..we must have been posting at the same time.
I TOO FELL ASLEEP and missed the last part.
BUT the main catagory is tonight...THE SKEETER DOGS....
Skeeter did great with his surgery today. Doc said he had to cut about 1/3 of his eyelid away to get the growth off. Has sent it to pathology..said he didn't think anything was wrong, but just to be sure. He's asleep on his big comfy pillow snorring away. He's full of pain medication, so I'm hoping he will sleep thru the night. They also cut his nails to the knubs...I like them that way, and it's easier for him to walk in the carpet. He will be on antibiotics and eye gel stuff for about two weeks...then he gets his stitches out and his eyelid will stretch back to normal.
He's pitiful looking, but I'm sure the iritation will be gone and he will feel much better.
Well, off to recline....
cheri45 02-14-2001, 11:36 AM Hello everyone! Sorry to hear that so many of you are feeling ill. I hope that you'll be back on top soon. I've had a pretty good day, even went for a walk. That's a new thing for me. One I want to make a habit of.
I have a question that's not health related but I'll ask it anyway. Have any of you made a later in life career change? I find myself newly divorced, living in a new city, without a job at the moment and considering going back to school to change the entire direction of my life. Just wondering if any of you have experienced this before and wondering if maybe I'm too old :( to start over that much.
Well, tomorrow is Weigh In Wednesday. I'm nervous http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//nervous.gif I have watched everything I ate this week so... there should be a drop in weight.
Hope you all have a great SB day tomorrow!

Debelli 02-14-2001, 06:09 PM Good Wednesday Morning :D
Still feeling a bit yucky http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//sick.gif but doesn't seem I got it as bad as Eli & Sharon. Didn't sleep well, even with earplugs, I could still hear the freight train rumbling next to me (he sure can snore-worse when he's sick)
Yes, TODAY IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!!! Lets hop on those metal monsters and see if they are friend or foe today. I stayed the same as last week, I'm happy, esp. after seeing that temp. 142 yesterday-so I'm back to 138, thank goodness.
THINAGIN, glad to see you back on the board. It's great you are following SB through your pregnancy, it will help, I'm sure. You may be able to avoid having the gestational diabetes following SB, I sure hope so. I had it with both my kids as well.
VR, glad to see you back on the board. Sounds like your son got an interesting job. I can't imagine how you feel with him moving so far away. I wonder how I will handle when Michael goes away for college in 3 years - I'll be a basket case, I'm sure.
FROG, so the hubby is in the doghouse, huh? I'm sure he'll suck up to you today - hope he gets you something good to make up for putting you through his moods!!
QUILTER, thanks for mentioning the echanecia tea, I have some in the cupboard and forgot I had it until I saw you mention it, will go have some! You COULD make your own syrup with carob if you want, lot less chemicals, that's for sure.
BIGO, you know I don't drink coffee, and aren't you glad, so I can bring you some more!!!! Soup sounds yummy, will look at it next time I hit Publix. Glad to hear fatboy is doing well!
CHERI, sorry I can't throw some advice your way, but I haven't been in that position yet. Why not go back to school, it would probably be very interesting!! Many people do later in life and really benefit from it.
Well gals, I've gotta run, almost time to take Michael to school. I'll check in with you all later.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!
Oh yes, HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!!!

I'm in a better mood. Went to bed at 10:00 to help chase away the ill-mood. Hubby is in a better mood too. TOM must be over for him.
Hopped on the scale; I'm somehwere between 168 and 169 do I'll say 168.5. I will weigh at work on the digital scale to see where that puts me. I have no idea what I weighed last week so I don't know if that's a loss or not! But I will say I'm glad to be outta the 170's and over 1/3 of my way to goal.
Deb - Hope you feel better soon.
BOB _ Hope Skeeter is better soon too.
Overcome - Thanks for the BEAUTIFUL Valentine's card. Do you do this as a profession?
GLORY - Glad to see you back on the board.
Have a good day. Happy Valentine's Day!
Peace,
Frog

Frog Lover 02-14-2001, 06:56 PM Ooooooooh :D
Just peaked at last weeks board and saw that I was reporting 170 and now I'm at 168.5 OK! That's 1 1/2 for me and the most in one week in a month! Now we're talking!

MsLiz1956 02-14-2001, 07:55 PM Howdy, SB Buddies!
So far so good with WW - it has helped already! Points are much easier to track than calories, fat, etc...I just have to watch for GI on foods, but at this point I'm pretty much aware of what those are.
I weigh in (first time officially!) at 11:00 this morning and have my body fat % checked. Wish me luck - I'll post the results later. I honestly don't expect a change in either.
VR - I know how you feel in part; it's both frightenting and exhilarating to "launch" a kid. Maybe in a way it's good you didn't have a long time to ponder his move...you might have driven yourself crazy! All 5 of ours are now successfully (relatively, anyway) on their own. I enjoy the empty nest thing! :) Hubby & I play a lot more!
VIV - about losing your postings...if they're long and you're spending a lot of time typing before you post, you may be getting "timed out" of the server. If there isn't any activity for awhile, most servers will think you just forgot to exit the site & will boot you off, so to speak. I don't know the technical details, but the result is that when you go to post, the page isn't there any more. I'd suggest typing your posts in Word or the like, then hit "reply" and paste the contents. Computers are getting more like people every day...moody...at least mine are. :D
CHERI - Go for it!!! I've made two major changes. In my 30's I put myself thru grad school while single-parenting three kids. Lived my dream of becoming a psychotherapist & spent several years in private practice. Then, a year ago, in my mid-40's, I decided I needed a change. I took a job with a consulting firm, and I totally have no regrets! Do it!! It's scary, but thrilling, to make changes like that! I found that middle age brings a certain wisdom, stability and level of experience that kids just don't have. Many companies like that in employees, and most professors love it! What are you thinking of doing?
DEBELLI - thanks again for all your hard work & your thoughtful posts.
I'll check in later after I weigh in!

cynsea 02-14-2001, 08:25 PM Happy Valentines Day Ladies!!!!!!
I hope that everyone is going to have a wonderful day! I haven't been on since 2-7-01, but I am glad to be reading all the posts. My heart goes out to everyone who is sick, I know that feeling all to well. I celebrated my birthday this weekend, and I am not even going to weigh in. I will admit that I didn't stick to this woe. Everything that I had, that was illegal, was wonderful, but after it was in my stomach, all I could think about was how long it has taken to loose the 31 lbs, and that I probably gained 6 back. So now I am back at step one, and going thru the sugar withdrawls. Maybe when I wi next wednesday, the scale will be at 315 and not above.
Well, gotta get to work. Have a great day ladies!

cmd4joy 02-14-2001, 08:29 PM Good morning, and Happy Valentine's Day.
Today is Weigh In Wednesday. I am still at what I was last week. I take this as righteous "punishment" for my terrible, horrible, poison-filled day on Saturday. If you all saw the things I put in my mouth, you'd be saying "YOU DESERVE TO GAIN!" But no loss/no gain this week and I'm back on track. Rick is taking me to dinner tonight, but I can handle that.
I hope all you sickies are feeling better!!!!! You could all come here and I'll make you chicken soup!!!
Tonight at midnight I have to stop eating and drinking until after my surgery tomorrow. It's not until 11 a.m. so I'm going to be pretty darn unhappy without my coffee!!! I have to be there at 9 for all the preop so that won't be too bad. I'll just sleep in, or get up and post my whining to all of you!!!
Off to find breakfast and lunch for the day!!!

belinda 02-14-2001, 09:57 PM NOT HAPPY
WIW has not been good to me. I don't even want to say what it is. I was just praying to stay the same but no. The only thing that makes me feel better is that TOM is next week and I regularly pack 5 lbs on for that special occasion and then it takes me a week to lose it. So basically, two weeks out of the month I shouldn't be looking at a scale. Looking back, I've been OK this last week. I drink 4 liters of water a day, I've been limiting my diet cokes to 1, rarely 2. I need to up my protein, though and reduce carbs according to my numbers on fitday. *sigh* I read everyone here every day even though I haven't been posting so much. Maybe if I check in more I can do better. Thanks for your encouragement. I'm sorry this is such an "I" post. See you later!
Bee
PS I am averaging 1600 calories a day. Is this too little? I went to one of the other sites recommended and they said 1900 for me to lose weight but I feel like that is way too much food. Any advice???

elliebellie 02-14-2001, 10:42 PM happy vd y'all. weigh in wed, and I haven't budged. Still on my plateau. You know, I think I may be consuming too much Splenda. i've been experimenting with it a lotlatelyl. some of you have mentioned that's been a problem for you as well.
well, starting tomorrow. Not today, cuz I made a special valentines cake for the family with, get this, chick peas instead of flour, and splenda for sweetener. It'll probably be horrific, but is smells good baking anyway. I'll let you all know how it turns out.
If eliminating splenda and malitol, etc. doesn't do the job, then I'll have to resort to the last resort of (gasp) eliminating coffee. but I'll try the sugar substitute elimination 1st.
Getting rid of the malitol, etc. won't be such a bad thing anyway, as it turns me into a human combustion engine.(if there was some way I could harness this energy..) :D
elliebellie 02-14-2001, 10:46 PM CHERI-
I say go for it too. I'd love to hear what you have in mind. I haven't done anything as impressive as mliz (single parent 3 kids and go back to school), but I'm in the midst of a quasi-career change right now. I've been a graphic designer and illustrator for 10 years, and I'm going back to school to study web design. It IS scary and exciting, but what have you got to lose?
Morning Everyone. I’m writing this in Word, but I realized, maybe the little smiley things won’t work if I do them this way? This is experimental….J Let/s see what happens.
Happy Valentine’s Day! So whose DH has done anything romantically worthwhile this morning? Not mine! I’d say LOL but I don’t feel so LOL about it right now…..LOL….
2 POUNDS gone on my weigh-in friendly new scale. Yes!!!!!
I managed to not even FEEL tempted about the gorgeous chocolates my Dad sent for V-Day – the big challenge will be this evening – I think I’ll make the kids heart shaped pink pancakes…hmmm, maybe shrimp sautéed for me. That sounds good. DH can fend for himself. So there. The cutest thing was littlest DS sneaking into my bedroom at 630am with a flashlight to put mine and DH’s valentines on top of our pillows – he didn’t need a flashlight but it was so cute and I had a hard time pretending I was asleep. This almost 7 y-o thinks he is 10 like his brother, so he acts tough and cool a lot, but gosh, sometimes he is just the cutest little sweetie. Hmm, I could go for a hug from himright now….I’ll have to have some tea instead…. ;)
Rhroo – you are so right about us being worth it. The problem I have is that sometimes I feel the rest of the world doesn’t feel that way and all the extra work and burden is on my head! That gets me angry sometimes  but other times I can deal withit.
Ellie – I love the Dud Swap idea. The closest I get is treasure hunts to thrift shops. I’m going to check out your website.
Deb – Have you ever tried those nose strips for DH the Locomotive? They worked for my DH – not 100%, but about 90%. I was getting tired of sleeping in the guest room, and I don’t like earplugs because I like to be aware of what’s going on in the house. I also have a little noise machine….so I can go to sleep beside a babbling brook. So carob syrup is legal? Really? Oh, I have so much to learn. Speaking of which, didn’t I see you mention that you would be doing a menu suggestion board? Something to look forward to? Thanks for all your hard work, it’s amazing.
Ms. Liz – glad WW is helping. Soon it will be seond nature.
Connie – good luck with your surgery. My mom had similar for carpal tunnel last year and although recovery was “inconvenient”, she had little discomfort.
Thinagin – I hear ya on the gestational diabetes! That was my big discovery after starting this plan, it says on Page 83 that once you’ve had GD you are “sensitive” to illegal foods thereafter. Wish I’d known that sooner – wish the doctors had told me.
VR – I understand about your son being so far away. My parents live 2000 and 3000 miles away from me and I can’t stand it, but it was better for them to live in warmer places. It didn’t get really complicated until we had the kids and my parents got older, because prior to that it was much easier to travel back and forth. So take advantage of his youth and frequent flier miles!! J
Quilter – Hmmmm, that chocolate syrup sounds so good. How do you keep from slurping down the whole bottle (just kidding!!!!!) Do you actually make quilts?
Big O – Thanks for the Tabachnik idea. In the past I had taken Lean Cuisines to work when I didn’t have any good leftovers or salads – but of course, too hi in carbs. I’m gonna grab a few of those soups now – great idea! Glad Skeeter is OK !
Cheri – I’ve had several career startovers, mostly because I want to work part time now that my kids are in school and need me after school. Once my youngest is in college then it will probably be another shift for me. I think it’s wonderful and that the vast majority of employers are VERY receptive to it – all you need is a good track record in the past, not switching jobs every 6 months. You can do it – let us know what you’re looking at – there are some really great jobs out there!
Frog – I know what it’s like when DH has PMS. Mine is willing to work with me on that, hope yours is too. Midlife crisis for mine, maybe. I tell him – GET OVER IT!!! Yes on the –1.5 – now THAT’s something to put a smile on your face!!!!
Back to work. Time to toast the Ezekiel bread – getting a little tired of oatmeal for breakfast at work.

Hey - A question about chocolate:
A really good store near me makes its own sugar- free chocolate sweetened with maltatol and sorbitol. I'm going to check on the food info boards but in the meantime if anybody knows......it would be fun to have a treat today....

elliebellie 02-15-2001, 01:54 AM Never heard of carob syrup, sounds good. What about unsweetened carob? Is it SB legal? And is there a 1-stop source for checking out this kind of stuff. I've found Mendosa's GI list to be cumbersome, and not all that informative.Does the Sugar Busters site have a resource like this?
From the Sugarbusters Website....one of theinterview with one of the authors -
This interview with Sam S. Andrews, M.D., one of the authors of Sugar Busters!, was conducted by telephone on May 25, 1998, with Rick Mendosa, a freelance writer specializing in diabetes who was writing an article about Sugar Busters! for Diabetes Interview magazine. That article was published in the September 1998 issue.
RM: One of the things I wanted to do was have a little sidebar in this article about the different types of sugar and say just what is it that you don’t want people on the Sugar Busters! diet to eat. You mentioned a few basic ones: refined sugar, corn syrup, molasses, honey, sugared colas, and beer and other places you talk about maltodextrin, malted barley, polydextrose, maltitol, sorbitol, or sugar alcohol in small amounts. Then you say they you say that high-fructose corn syrup is another no-no.
SA: Yeah, but sugar alcohols are okay.
RM: Those are sorbitol and maltitol.
SA: If you look at the glycemic index of those, those are virtually zero.
RM: What about dextrose?
I'll still go for the official SB Legal chocolates, if I do at all, but just thought y'all might be impressed with me answering my own question!

country 02-15-2001, 03:05 AM Happy Valentine's Day.
Well, I blew it - and right after I said I didn't trust myself to eat sweets. My youngest son's girlfriend made my DH and me a heart shaped CHOCOLATE cake, with little pink and red M & M's, red sugar and heart shaped CHOCOLATES on top of the frosting. They didn't know I was sugar busting. Couldn't resist. Didn't take much though, to take away the craving. DH husband took the candy they also brought to work to take away the temptation. I love him!!
Hope everyone starts feeling better soon. So far my DH and I have missed everything. Probably helped being laid off - wasn't around all the parents with sick kids. Schools were having days off because of so many sickies.
MsLiz Thanks for the info on hypothyroidsm. I'm anxious to get the results and find out for sure. That would sure explain a lot of things. Today I am so tired I haven't done anything. Shame on me - I didn't exercise.
VR I know the feeling. My middle son (22)is in college in TN (we live in IL) and each time he is home, it is harder to send him off again. The oldest son (24 in April) lives in PA. What was really hard was when he first moved out there - one weekend MS left for TN, next weekend oldest left for PA.
Empty nest syndrome really bad. But, both are going great. Youngest lives about 5 miles away.
Gotta quit and get ready for work. http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//sick.gif

Debelli 02-15-2001, 07:30 AM Evening Everyone :D
I'm still sick http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//sick.gif and it's taking it's sweet time to leave me. All I've done is sleep and lie on the couch-a true domestic goddess!!!
CHERI, I did think of something you may find interesting...how about applying at Starbucks if you have one in your area. Eli loves his job there and they seem to be a great company to work for - that would be an interesting change of pace, huh?
FROG, Congrats on your loss! I'm sure you were pleasantly surprised to see that 1.5lbs gone!
MSLIZ, I see you too were pleasantly surprised with your loss!! Congrats!!
CYNSEA, glad to have you back and on track again. Hopefully, the gain will not be there, or small. Just climb back on the wagon and green pastures will be ahead.
JOY, I stayed the same too, better than a gain! Good luck with the surgery tomorrow, let us know when you can how things went. Maybe they can hook up another IV with some Starbucks going to your veins!!! LOL!!!
BELINDA, if it's that TOM, don't worry about a gain, it's only temporary. I can easily gain 4-5 pounds a month, scarey as it seems. I use to get so discouraged when this happened when I was on other diets, but since being on SB, I learned how my body reacts to these times and know if I be patient, it will go back down. In regards to the 1600 calories, what is your current weight, then I can let you know.
ELLIE, try cutting the Splenda out, you may be surprised that it's the culprit, it was for me. I don't know of any sites that have more precise info on SB. Mendosa's site is good for the GI, though there are many others, but all have about the same info. I use carob powder in baking, it's yummy!
VIV, congrats on the loss - you'll be in Florida soon with a bikini body!! I do have some nose strips, they sit in the box unused, I think he'd much rather me stuff my ears! I'm so use to the earplugs now, I can't imagine sleeping without them! Carob is fine, and making the syrup isn't hard at all. The menu board, I have the breakfast ideas done, now I need lunch/dinner & snacks. It's going to take a bit of time, but it's getting there, slowly but surely.
RHROO, what brand of chocolate is the 72% - that's a great price!!!!!!!!!
GLORY, CONGRATS! I'm so happy to see you lost another 2lbs, you go girl!
COUNTRY, tomorrow is another day, I'm sure you'll be back on track again. Consider yourself lucky to not have caught something, it's not fun!
Please remember TOMORROW IS RECIPE DAY so if you have any good SB legal recipes you'd like to share, you can post them tomorrow, or really anytime.
ALSO, PLEASE REMEMBER, TOMORROW WE ARE GOING TO DO THE TEST CHAT AT 9:30PM EST, SO IF YOU ARE AROUND, PLEASE TRY TO ATTEND!!!!!
I'll check in with you all tomorrow morning, I'm sure I will fall asleep on the couch early http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//sleep.gif I have a hair and nail appointment tomorrow that will keep me busy for hours - haven't had my hair done since early June!

Tired 02-15-2001, 07:46 AM Just a quick note to say hello to all of the people that I recognize on the board and those of you who are new. I haven't posted for a few weeks - I have basically been off of the net due to other committments. I am doing well and had a 3lb loss this week. I am still swimming pretty regularly - 3 to 4 times/week (1-1.5km each time).
Congrats to all of you who lost this week! Keep up the great work! For those of you who did not lose - this week will be better! :)
Take care of yourselves and have a great week! I will try and get online to post again this week!

Hello everyone! I finally have some time to post! Not a lot but I'll make do!! :)
JOY...thanks for the tip on the 10% off sale. I'm going to check it out. Glad you didn't let the weekend party throw you off completely!!! I can completely understand eating the unlegal stuff. I have several functions coming up in March and I am a bit worried!!! I'm trying to mentally prepare myself. Let us know how your surgery goes!
MELF and FROG...glad you liked the cards. No Frog, I don't make them professionally (although it was nice that you thought so!), its just a hobby.
DEB..hope you start feeling better! Can't wait to check out the chat room on Thursday night. It will be great!! I've tested it out and its working great for me so far!! I was surprised to read that the authors of Sugar Busters don't endorse Sugar Bust for Life. I love that book. I bring it to the grocery store with me to check out the brand names. I also love reading the recipes...so many possiblities! Also, loved the info on chocolate. I am going to email it to my friends.
Barbee..have you figured out fitday yet?
BIG ORANGE...glad to hear Skeeter made out okay with his surgery. I saw that dog show when I was flipping through the channels.
ELLIE..nice to hear from you. As I told you before your web site is off to a great start! I am so impressed with the work |
