Good Monday Morning Everyone! :D

I hope you all had a good weekend, and for those of you who haven't ventured onto the board since before Thanksgiving, I hope your holiday went good as well.

TODAY IS MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY and here's my contribution:

SUCCESS

Keep trying is the rule you must follow
to become successful in anything.
Success in anything is connected with action.
Successful people keep moving.
They make mistakes but they don't quit.
They hang on after others have let go.

Time for me to go make a lunch, get ready to walk, etc. etc. I'll be on later to respond to everyone a bit later on.

I hope you all have a wonderful day and a fabulous week!!!!

Good morning everyone!!

I'm up early as usual - since Daylight Savings Time went away, my animals have not adjusted so now they wake me at about 3:15.

Since I am "starting over again", I chose these words of wisdom this week:

Our past is neither an accident nor a mistake. We have been where we needed to be, with the necessary people. We can embrace our history, with its pain, its imperfections, it mistakes, even its tragedies. It is uniquely ours; it was intended just for us. Today, we are right where we need to be. Our present circumstances are exactly as they need to be - for now.

Have a wonderful Monday!

Good Monday AM.

I am almost back to my old self. Hope to feel weel enough to walk my dog tonight. This mornining my husband is starting a new job. For the past year and 1/2 he has worked in a town 3 hours away; meaning a 3-4 night a week hotel stay and too much time away from home. Now he will be home every night and his commute is only 30 minutes. Even better, next week I will also start a new job and will be wokring 1 block away from him. Answered prayers! :)

But today I am off to the gyno for that wonderful annual check-up! Oh Boy!

Here is my motivational thought for today: (especially enjoyable for you Miami Dolphins fans!)

"The ultimate goal is victory, and if you refuse to work as hard as you possible can toward that aim, or if you do anything that keeps you from achieving that goal, then you are just cheating yourself." Don Schula

Hope you are victorious in your weight loss goals today.

Good Morning Again! :D

Had a WONDERFUL walk this morning, hasn't been like this in weeks!!! It is actually overcast, but a bit cool, better than the awful weather we had this weekend. I've already taken my shower and am raring to go for the day!!!!

I'm always afraid of getting too excited about loses, but I just can't help but say HALLELUJAH!!!! I finally hit the 140's!!!!! Weighed in this morning at 149.5!! I know I will go back up the end of this week due to TOM, but I know it will be temporary - I'm just so thrilled to hit anything below 150!!!!! :D Honestly, I even felt a little lighter when I woke up today, so it was nice to see I was right.

FRUIT, glad to have you back safe and sound! Looking forward to having you back on track and back on the board with us!!! :) Let us know where you ended up traveling to.

BIGORANGE, you can get that Swedish pillow at Brookstone as well, have seen them there. Again, both pillow are on Ebay as well (I always check Ebay for anything I'm in the market for). Thanks for the offer of picking up the pillow, actually, if you have a name, I can ask my Aunt to bring me one this coming month, they live outside Hendersonville, NC and there is definitely a Belks in the mall there.

RSIMON, great motivational thought - again, I'm thrilled you are back on the board!!!! Now that the dogs haven't adjusted their internal clock, what time are you getting to bed these days?? And I thought I was up early!

FROG, sounds like you and your hubby got great early Xmas gifts with the new jobs! Hope all goes well at the gyno - I have to make an appt (been saying that way too long now). Thanks for the great motivational thought - I guess Shula has a way with words other than football!

CHRISTIAN, need to know what sweetners you have available so I can figure out what recipe to give you. Do you have AGAVE NECTAR?? Found a good Devils Food cake recipe, among others, but they all use honey and I would sub that for agave nectar. If not, do you want me to look for a recipe using Splenda?? Just remember, just because it's a special occasion doesn't mean you have to eat any cake to be part of the celebration - I didn't have anything on my b.day, and I didn't feel like I missed out on anything.

Time to do a few things around the house, I'll check in with you all later today!!

Debbie :)

Happy Monday Everyone :)

Here is my motivational thoughts for the day :D

" It is hard to be a person that never gives up!"
--- Babe Ruth ---

" Don't let weeds grow around your dreams."
--- Author Unknown ---

Debbie: I know you are so THRILLED...hitting the 140's is a great accomplishment. I was down to 147 today so I had lost 1 pound too! The kids and I went to see Grinch and Meet the Parents this weekend. Both are very cute family films and I enjoyed them...

Ricki: Welcome back...you were missed. Glad your health scare was just that. I know how stressful not knowing can be. Also, glad you are ok with your job! Hang in there and remember the best way to survive is to focus only on your job and what you can control. You can't control the CEO but you can control your work and how you react to the new CEO. I always pretend they don't exist and when my co-workers complain or grown I just go back to my office and do my job. When you leave work...leave work there. Don't fret about it at home!

Fruit: Glad you are back we missed you. Sorry about Arkansas...they have really been tough this year.

Frog: Glad your hubby has a job near you now. That will really make your life easier! Glad you are feeling better.

Christian: You are so close to your goal...I know you will get back on track. Hang in there and one strategy I have for making it through the holidays is to not keep temptation around.

Well I am off today and have a million errands to run. Then tonight is my town's Christmas parade and both my kids are in it so I will get to stand out in the cold..brrr...I hope to get a walk in before the parade!

Good Morning everyone,

Back to the grind...definately not organized today!

DEB...Yes, there is a Belks in Hendersonville. I have an Aunt and Uncle who
live there year round. It's a beautiful little town...
Belk only sells one kind of foam pillow..The only thing your aunt will have to know is if you want regular or firm...standard or queen.
These pillows are great...been buying them for years.

FROG..not too envious of you today...we call that "riding the silver saddle"

Rikki....welcome back.

I'm making myself an appointment to see the allergist. I know that I'm allergic to some food groups, and I have to find out which ones.

Gotta get to work...Have a good day

Good Monday morning everyone :) :)

Hope you all had a good weekend. The weather was miserable here all weekend. Nothing but rain and fog. I did manage to get out though and do a bit more Christmas shopping. I had a busy day yesterday. We ended up having 12 for supper, that was my three kids and 6 grandchildren. I was partly prepared though as I had made some salads on Saturday. I just defrosted some chicken and baked it and I made the Almond Brown Rice Stuffing and some veggies.

Here's my contribution to Motivational Monday:

Move on ahead
In every setback is the opportunity to pick yourself up and the energy to move to an even higher level than before. The more the bowstring is pulled back, the faster the arrow will fly. The more you are pushed back, the more potential you can develop for moving forward.
When they appear, the setbacks seem devastating. And yet, even in despair you can feel the raw energy, ready and waiting to be applied in a positive direction. True, that energy can take you down even further if you let it. Make the choice, instead, to move forward with it.
With every fall comes an opportunity. It is up to you to seize that opportunity and to come back even stronger than before. Success is not a function of how many times you fall, but of how fast you get back up. When you're able to recover quickly enough, the setbacks will actually propel you forward. Get right back up, and you'll see you've been dealt a great opportunity.
-- Ralph Marston

Beachfan, I think I will have to try the green tea. I need something to get my metabolism moving. I tried some tea in a Chinese restaurant once which I think was green tea and didn't like it but I'm prepared to give it a try again. I'm still not losing and I don't think I am overeating, I'm certainly restricting the starchy carbs to usually two a day. It's good to hear you are down again. 147 pounds sounds great. I weighed 140 pounds 30 years ago. Now I would be happy to get down to 200 pounds. I am presently stuck at 210.

Debbie, I am happy for you reaching below the 150 mark. It must be a great feeling. I made your Taboulah Salad on the weekend and I really liked it. I'll be making it often.

Fruitloupe, welcome back.

Frog Lover, Glad to hear you are feeling better and that was great news about the jobs. It must be a relief to have hubby working closer to home.

Christian, It was good to hear you are back on track again. I just don't make cakes or cookies anymore as I know who will end up eating most of it. If I feel like a dessert I will sometimes make the Apple Betty that Debbie posted on the recipe board. I find this satisfies my sweet tooth.

Well I better get this posted. It started off as good morning now it is good afternoon. It is a real dull, damp day here but at least the rain has stopped.

Time to get lunch ready. Bye for now.

Marie. :) :)

Hi Everyone:

Just a quick hello this afternoon. I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving - I haven't had a chance to read last week's board yet! I have been quite sick with the flu and strep throat and am sick in bed again today. I am hoping to get back to work by Wednesday this week.

I gained 1lb last week and will have to wait and see what I do this week. I have been off track all week due to illness and not wanting to eat and then eating what I shouldn't because it is soft food. Anyway, I am back on track this morning which is a good thing.

Have a great week everyone and I will post again soon!

Evening Gals! :D

An uneventful day here in Miami, got my kitchen cleaned and picked up some pita bread before going to get Michael, was about all I did for the day. Weather here is getting quite cool again!

BEACH, way to go - down another pound! You're going to have to get a new picture up on the board soon - I'm dying to see what you look like! Hope the parade went well and the kids had fun, and you stayed warm!

BIGORANGE, my Aunt is in Ettowah, outside Horseshoe, in Cummings Cove area, your family will know where this is. I've already e-mailed her about the pillow and she's going to check it out for me. Definitely like FIRM, like I'd like to be (in my dreams)!

ROSALIE, sorry to hear the weather is stinky up that way already. Boy, you sure did have a houseful! How did the Almond Stuffing come out???? Glad you like the tabbouli, I don't get to make it that often, I'm really the only one who likes it and it's really only good fresh or the day after, but not longer. Your motivational thought was wonderful, thanks for posting it!

GLORY, I hope you'll get through the holidays well. Just think that your boys are lucky enough to have families of their own now. I'm sure it bothers them as well that they can't be with you, but you know you are always in their hearts, not only at Xmas, but all year long. And now a mention of my Grandmother - she too has been on her best behavior as well - it's weird! I drove both my Grandparents up to WPB for Thanksgiving dinner and she didn't cut me down once - I was THANKFUL!!! Hopefully, your Mom and my Grandmother will continue being NORMAL!

TIRED, sorry to hear you've been feeling under the weather :( Hope you make a speedy recovery! Don't worry about the gain, no matter what it's from, it's only temporary, just focus on getting better now. Wish I could send you some chicken soup!!

TOMORROW IS TUESDAY TIPS so if you have any good tips to share that will help us along this journey, please post them tomorrow on this board.

Will try to check in before going to bed.

Have a great evening everyone!

Good Evening to All Ya'll

Have to share something funny... My dog HATES it when my husband or I have a cold. The coughing, throat clearing, sneezing, etc. (all the noisy cold symptoms) drive her away. If I cough she'll get up and leave the room. If I begin coughing at bedtime she really freaks out; usually going to the breakfast room to sleep under the table. WELLLL... My husband and I have shared this cold back-to-back and the brown hound is none to happy. Last night we decided that we would "lock" her in our bedroom so that she could sleep comfortably. After I cleared my throat one time she ran to the bathroom and got in the tub! :D It really cracks me up! My husband got her outta the tub and finally coaxed her onto her bed.

One good thing about going to the gyno today, I didn't absolutely dread getting on the XX!!#$%@! scales. It was good to see that I may have even lost.

Made a wonderful soup from the SB for Life (Brennen) cookbook tonight and hubby loved it! ;) It was the broccoli vegetable. YUM!

I am attempting to get better at responding to the questions and comments people pose. Here I go:

Debelli - glad your weather is better. It was quite mild in Nc today. BTW, we have lots of Belk's in this area of the state. Congrats on the 140s!

BigOrangeBabe - I laughed out loud at your term for the gyno. Does anyone remember the "Carribean Gyno" skit Eddie Murphy used to do on SNL? I will sing it when I go to the doc (Comic relief) but very few people are familiar with it.

Gloryb - I'll keep a good thought for you as you prepare to celebrate the holidays in a different way this year. I hope that you have friends that will also enjoy celebrating with you. By the Way, my dog's name is Dixie. She's my 75lb lap dog.

Tired - Please get well soon!

Talk to you tomorrow!

I'll put my #'s down after weigh-in Wednesday. Should be something like

So many new names and familiar ones - its good to "hear" from everyone again - and so many success stories.

Deb - WOW!! - in the 140's!! Pretty soon - we'll get you out of the black clothes? Just kidding.. I hate to admit this - but have been falling asleep around 7:30 these days.

Frog - love that nickname - your dog sounds a lot like mine - aren't they strange? but wonderful!! Mine gets upset anytime I take out a camera. He used to be a ham, but not anymore. What kind of dog do you have? Sounds like your family's "job situation" is definitely improving. I have a gyne appt in about two weeks - not the most pleasant thing to do.

Christian - nice to meet you - let me know if you do find a good SB birthday cake..

Hi Beach - good to hear from you. You are so right - I do need to compartmentalize (is that a word?) my life better. It has taken on far too much importance in my life. When my job is bad, my life feels bad.

BigOrange (can I shorten your name?) - Nice to meet you too. It so encouraging that SB has become so popular!! I am hypoglycemic and I know how much better I feel when I am on it. Good luck at your allergist..

Rosalie - thanks for the motivation - I do agree that its the hard times in our lives that make us stronger.

GloryB - nice to meet you - I will keep you in my prayers over the holidays. My family is also spread out all over the country and I know how hard it can be when you are not together. Are you all on the internet? I think that has helped my sisters stay closer.

Hi Georgina - so glad you have stuck to it. From your stats - it looks like you are making a lot of progress. Hope you are feeling better.

About all for now - bedtime is coming. :D

Hi
Sorry its been so long since i posted. Very busy here with people visiting and the kids stuff-you all know. An update on the allergy thing if anyone cares! LOL the Dr. said its exzema (?) which my dad has so i took his cream and its clearing up! i am my own dr. i guess! I still have to call the Dr. back he wanted to treat me with steroids i don't really want to take them sooo we will see!
Deb i know that feeling your talking about its nice to see that number it gives ya a boost and some extra motivation even if its only for a day or two!! You can say i weigh 149! unill you know you don't! LOL I can't wait to be there. I don't think it will be this week but i will go down trying!
As for motivation-we have all been talking about our moms and freinds wanting our Sugarbuster books and wanting to lose like us bla bla...well my mom has been inquiring and read my book i gave her a shopping list. Today i asked if she started she said "i am afraid it won't work" this is a woman on insulin shots and arthuis thats has effected a previous broken bone and the weight dosn't help-dr said that 25 lb loss would releive alot of pain. Anyway i said to her "ya won't know till you try"-and "what is trying going to do?" Anyone can do this i know it works and its a very forgiving program that you can still lose if ya fall off the wagon!
Hope everyone has a great week! keep up the good work!

Up late, at least for me, thought I'd get in a post before I try to get some sleep.

FROG, you definitely had me laughing! Just the image of the dog running away from you every time you make your noises had me laughing, but the jumping in the tub - I wish you'd of taken a picture and posted it!!! :D

RSIMON, still ribbing me about the clothes, I see you are definitely back to your old self!!! Nah, I think I'll be buried in these things. My shirts are sooo big on me now they look like maternity tops! BUT, the pants, being elastic waste, still aren't big on me, so wear them til they have holes in them, I say!!!

RHROO, glad to have you back on the board, we missed you! Before you try steroids, do try everything else first. I remember when Eli had a fungus on his fingernail, Dr. wanted him to take this medication that costs hundreds, isn't covered by insurance, no guarantees it would work, and could cause liver damage. I read everything I could about it, tried 3 different things, and we got rid of it!!! See what alternative methods you can find to use if the cream doesn't do the trick.

Well, that's it - gonna go hit the hay and hopefully be able to fall asleep!

Check in with you all tomorrow!!

Good morning!!

Been up since about 2:30 (ughh...) - my project is putting out a software release on Dec 7 and we are in crunch mode - right now - I know, I know - I have to leave my work at work - and I WILL work on that.

Deb - I enjoy ribbing you on the black stuff - actually - I LOVE black too.. most of my pants are black. So - who's calling the kettle black!! - :D

For a Tuesday Tip - for those of you who work - I bought a "BIG" lunch bag, pack it with a large Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, onion, avocado, fat free cheese, low fat ham, an ice thingy and a bottle of low fat dressing - take a big bowl to work with me, and then cut it up for lunch. Everyone in the office is insanely jealous - is really satisfying and doesn't tire me out all afternoon.

Have a great Tuesday..

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone! :D

Finally got to sleep around 1am, up at 5:15 - UGH! So with that, the only thing that happened between my posts, there really isn't much to say :D

Today is TUESDAY TIPS and here's my contribution:

Based on more than 20 years of working with overweight clients, John Foreyt, Ph.D., director of the Nutrition Research Clinic at Houston's Baylor College of Medicine, offers the following recommendations for successful weight management:

Regular physical activity. Exercise not only increases caloric expenditure, it increases feelings of well-being and perceived energy level. Studies also suggest exercise can be effective in regulating appetite. However, the challenge is to incorporate exercise into other life-long habits.

Social support. Long-term weight regulation is easier when individuals are supported in their goals by family, friends, colleagues treatment support groups - AND boards like ours (thought I'd throw that in).

Internal motivation. Those who demonstrate internal motivation such as "I'm doing this to be in charge of my life," are more successful in weight management than those who focus on external reasons like "fitting into a new pair of jeans."

Positive health benefits. Focusing on positive health benefits such as an ability to walk further without being winded, increases the chances of successful long-term weight management.

Smaller, more frequent meals. Eating smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day helps maintain blood sugar levels and avoids feelings of starvation, which can lead to bingeing.

Gradual changes. Those who make gradual changes in diet and exercise are more likely to successfully manage their weight in the long run, than those who make dramatic changes at once.

Out with Eli today, will check in later!!!!

Have a wonderful day and remember, TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!!!

Hello!

When you've fallen off the wagon or feel like you're not losing fast enough, examine your eating and then... Write down five positive things about yourself and focus on the positive. Maybe you're a great mom, a dedicated employee, a safe driver, a friendly neighbor, a snappy dresser, or you were successful last week and will be again. Whatever you don't get booged down in your misery; it really isn't becoming and your friends don't want to hear about it now do they? So "accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, hold on to the affirmative and don't mess with mister in between."

(I have to admit that I am not good at tips yet, but I'll keep working on it.)

Deb - I like black clothes too! White shirts, shoes, khakis, overalls and black are all a fetish for me! Glad you enjoyed hearing about my dog. I'll have to post a pic of her sometime.

Rsimon - My dog's name is Dixie. She's soooo sensative. If my husband and I raise our voices (even when having an enthusiastic, not angry discussion) she will get under the table. I don't know what it is with her.

Christian - I have an untested (by me) cake recipe that you may want to try. Do you have the cookbook Sugar Busting for Life? They have some cake recipes that sound pretty good. I am planning to cook one this week. Let me know if you want the recipe or want to know more about the cookbook.

Rhroo - I know right where you are coming from with that whole "Mom thang!" Maybe when we get to be our Mom's age we will also have a difficult time changing our thinkging/mind set. I don't know if you saw my post from last week about my Mom, but it was similar to yours. Someone on this board gave me wonderful advice: "just lead by example" and to that I add, cook them wonderful food that is SB legal and let them see how easy this diet is. Remember: "Denial ain't just a river in Egypyt!" Hang in there!

BigOrangeBabe (BOB) - look forward to seeing your post this afternoon. Give Skeeter my best.

Later Ya'll!

Renee

Hi Everyone :)

I've had my first migraine in probably 8 months. It started yesterday morning and went through the night into today. I think maybe even though I did not eat too much or off track over the holidays that something I did may have triggered it. Needless to say I have no energy and am drained.

My tip for Tuesday is about the Green Tea and metabolism. I drink the green tea with just a touch of sweetner in it. I use equal but I am talking not even 1/4 of a packet. I really don't like to use aspartame but since I use such a small amount it doesn't affect me like it use to. The other tip is I buy the green tea that has lemon and ginseng added. That makes it taste better.

Rosalie other tips for boosting your metabolism includes weight lifting. I have read article after article that says aerobics is good for your cardio health and to burn calories but strength training increases your metabolism. That is because muscle uses more energy than fat. Weight lifting is so easy and really doesn't hurt. You might want to look for a tape that is for beginners. I use 3-8 pound weights depending on what I am doing. I would start with the 3 and over several weeks build up to the 5...I don't use leg weights but use my body's weight to build those muscles...most of the tapes out show you how to do that.

After I started the green tea and the weight lifting I have had very few plateaus...or even fluctuations in weight.

Well I have to run...still not feeling too great...

Evening Gals! Where is everyone today?? Slow day on the board I see. Ready to go to bed, but wanted to get in a quick post.

RSIMON, we were posting at the same time today - both of us up at ridiculous hours, though you're worse than me! How are you feeling now that you are back on track?? Good luck with WIW tomorrow!

BIGORANGE, I doubt my Aunt knows much of anyone, they just moved there about a year ago from Rochester, NY, and my grandparents are only there for a few months during the summer. Personally, I love that area, and if it weren't for high taxes, would probably live there.

FROG, good tips - wish I put them to heart - like you, I need to work on things as well. At least you vary your colors a bit beyond black, if it wasn't for my blue jean shirts, the only other color you'd ever see on me are my white socks!!

BEACH, hope your migraine is better!! Keep talking about that green tea, it's working, I drank a cup yesterday!! THOUGH, any idea if decaf green tea has the same properties as decaffinated???

Well gals, beauty rest calls - will check in wtih you tomorrow. Please remember TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!!!!!! Good luck to you all!!

Not sure what is going on with my sleep - I woke up at midnight and haven't been back to sleep since. Decided to work at home today since I don't trust myself behind a wheel.

Other than that - I feel great - energy level has been so much better since I'm back 100% on SB!! :D

Okay - I will get my nerve up, and go weigh myself (lots of fear and trepidation, sweaty palms....)

Not too bad - I am at 125 - I think the lowest I was down before was about 122. And I just ate breakfast - so that may account for some of it? :D

Whew - now that that is over, maybe I'll get some sleep??

Good luck to everyone else today..

Hi Everyone :)

My migraine is better but I haven't excercised in 2 days because of it and I really feel yucky! I have to travel for work today and I don't know when I will fit in excercise but hopefully tonight I can do some aerobics.

Weighed today and I didn't drop any...147 is where I am.

Ricki: Hope you can get some sleep today. You'll quickly lose those 3 pounds and be right back on track.

Deb: I agree the board was slow yesterday! I don't think the decaf has the same properties as the caffeine...I drink mine in the morning so the caffeine doesn't affect my sleep.

See ya'll later.

Good Wednesday Morning Everyone! :D

I'm pooped, didn't walk, gonna try to go back to sleep for a bit.

TODAY IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!! and even though I'm up a 1/2lb, I had a loss of 1lb for the week. This week will be tough, TOM is about here, and I always have a gain and stall, which should occur over the next week. Soo, if you hear me moaning and groaning about gains, just remind me that it's temporary.

RSIMON, glad to know you didn't have more of a gain during your hiatus! Now that you are back on track, I'm sure you'll be on your losing streak again. Hope you get some sleep, I know how I feel and you must be worse!!!

BEACH, they way I'm feeling today, I'll be happy to drink the caffinated green tea! I need it! Hey, you did lose for the week! Last week you were 148, so you had a 1lb loss!!! I think other than the weekends, yesterday was one of the slowest days on the board. Hopefully, it won't get worse as we get closer to the holidays - I don't know if people realize how important it is to get on this board during these times - it definintely helps to get on the board and keep in mind what you should be focusing on instead of the holiday goodies. This is the time of year that people really fall off the WOE bandwagons! Got any ideas??

Well, I'll check in later and see what the board is up to. Hope everyone has a good day!

Time for a little WEIGH-IN-WEDNESDAY RAP

"It's Weigh-In-Wednesday, time to get on the scale,
Gain or lose, you'll be able to tell,
Eat right and be smart without cheating,
And your gonna lose wieght with this way of eating!"
Peace Out!

Okay, a little mid-week humor for you all. Honestly, I'm not 12, just like to act that way sometime. :)

I am thrilled with this WOE. I have excellent news to report...

My weight this a.m. is 183.5! (I am only using the #s I get on my home scales so as not to mix 'em up with the doc's.) The 190 lbs. that I am reporting as my start weight was taken on Sunday, 11/19/00, after approx. 3 full weeks with SB! Who knows what it would've been then? Therefore, I've lost 6.5 lbs in 10 days! (2 pounds lost over the week of Thanksgiving!! Now who's a turkey? Not me!) :D WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!

Hi Everyone:

Just a quick note to say hello to everyone and tell you all to keep up the great work. I didn't weigh last night at TOPS because I was still sick in bed. I am at work today - thank God I only work 5 hours/day - I don't think that I could handle much more today!

I will only have a weigh in next week when I am back to full form and get to my TOPS meeting. I am back on track 100% and feel so much better for it. Now, if I could only taste/smell what I am eating, it would make it so much more enjoyable! Oh well!

Have a great day everyone! I will check in again tomorrow!

Hi everyone :) :)

This is just a quick one. Have to get ready for work soon. Well, the weight is just the same. I am stuck at 210lbs. The good news is I just bought a pair of pants in a smaller size and they fit. Hooray! :D Soon hopefully I won't have to shop in the "big girls" section.

Beach, glad your migraine is better. They can be very draining. I'm taking your advice and going to try some weights. My son thinks his mother is going nuts in her old age. I've ordered the Kathy Smith tape "Lift Weights to Lose Weight". Should have it soon.

That's all I have time for now. Have to run. Will check in later.

Hey ya! Poking my head in to say hey! (I try not to spend more much time at the 'puter than I let my 4yo spend in from the TV)

I weighed in at the Doc's yesterday. I'm at 220. That's a gain of two pounds, but I think I was up two pounds last week, and this may be the same.... So maybe I'm holding steady.

I know I've lost inches. My size 22 jeans are getting looser and there's lots of leg and butt room. I even feel smaller at aerobics. I don't have to stretch out my shirts anymore.

At the doc's yesterday for the 9mo's check-up. He may have lazy eye. *sigh* Or something that (I hope my research is wrong) may require surgery. If it's a weak eye then an eyepatch. But what happens is that one of his eyes drifts or looks crossed. Other than that, he's great.

I've convinced Joe that white bread is out. Finally. But that means I have to be more assertive when he walks up to the shopping cart with it. We're going veggie shopping to day. I find I do much better when I have lots of good veggies around. I can also plan my meals better if I know what we're doing for dinner. That's the meal we all eat together.

Man, there's so much to respond to - where to start.

Rosalie - congratulations on the smaller size clothes. I dreamed last night that I was wearing a little black, backless dress and I look ed down at my legs and they were amazing lookin! The upper part still needed work, but I had those legs that rockers sing about!

I hope everyone, including me, can shake their winter miseries soon. I've got an ear infection.

It's raining here in the Pacific NW. Winter. We've put up our decorations and now I've got to organize the gifts we'll be taking/sending to Texas.

Joey and I baked some cookies yesterday. In the sugared world, they would have been sugar cookie, but in the SB Universe, they were fructose and SGWW cookies. They worked. But it took some extra egg and butter. Now that I think of it, maybe I should have used milk. Oh well, we got a chance to use many of the 47 cookie cutters I have amassed. The cookies are good. I just keep them out of sight, so I don't consume them all in one sitting. And no, we are not going to frost them.

Baby's awake. Gotta go.

Take care.

One more thing - I read Deb's treatise in the Food Information Section on salt and how processed it is.

I have found that Sea Salt is less processed and has more minerals left in. It's a purer product and there's no sugar added. I find its taste is milder. There's a brand named Balene with a whale on the front. You can also buy it in bulk at HFS.

Now I really gotta go!

Bye.

Thinagin--I use Baleen sea salt and like it very much. I've used sea salt for several years, ever since I discovered that Morton's has sugar in it.

I'll be off the board until Monday. Gonna watch the Gators and Beach's team go at it in Atlanta. May the best team win!!!!

Y'all be good.

Evening Everyone! :D

Wanted to get in a quick post before the David Blain special.

FROG, you are too funny!! I loved your RAP!!! What a wonderful loss you've had! CONGRATULATIONS!!! You should be very proud of yourself!!!!

TIRED, sorry to hear you still aren't feeling well :( Hope you are feeling better by tomorrow. I keep meaning to ask you, are any of the other TOPS members following SB?? Don't worry about the 2lbs, you know it's temporary, just think about those jeans getting bigger and baggier on you, that means a lot. Sounds like your cookies turned out well, you should post the recipe on the board.

ROSALIE, that's great to hear that you got some new pants! And in a smaller size to ****!!! Don't worry about what the scale says, your body seems to have it's own language.

GINGERSNAP, love how you look at both sides of the coin!!!

THINAGIN, I use REALSALT and SEA SALT, REALSALT is from a salt mine in UTAH. Here's the companies description:

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: But isn't salt just salt?

A: Yes and no. While most salts start out as salt, they don't always end up that way. Normal table salt begins as a saline solution. After processing and kiln drying at temperatures in excess of 400 degrees, its natural state is changed and most trace minerals are lost. Then chemicals like silico aluminate, potassium iodide, tri-calcium phosphate, magnesium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, and yellow prussiate of soda are added. These chemicals are added to bleach the salt, prevent caking and aid in free-flowing. REALSALT®, on the other hand, is processed from rock salt. It hasn't been in solution for 50 million years! And it has never been kiln dried nor has it had chemicals added. REALSALT® is a truly natural combination of chlorides, and minerals your body needs and can use.

Q: What about flavor?

A: Our customers say it is nature's best. REALSALT® tastes so good that many people claim it brings out whole new flavors in foods! REALSALT's natural sweet flavor even causes some to ask if we've mixed sugar with it. We invite you to taste it yourself, side by side with any other salt or salt substitute. The difference is REAL! The pure salt flavor of REALSALT® comes through with no aftertaste or bitterness.

Q: Where does "REALSALT®" come from?

A: REALSALT® is taken from a huge rock salt deposit near Redmond, Utah, located about halfway between Provo and St. George in the southwestern part of Utah. Here, light pink chunks of mineralized rock salt are hand-selected from this ancient deposit, crushed, screened, and then packaged assuring you the finest natural mineral salt available today.

Redmond Minerals RealSalt is derived from a natural mineral rock salt deposit deep in the earth near Redmond, Utah. It is believed that the salt formation originated a long time ago in the Geologic time period of the Jurassic Age. A super-saturated body of seawater may have congealed to form a great body of rock salt which also contained many wholesome minerals. Indians and Pioneers were the first to process and mine the salts from this great deposit and the salt rock was primarily used for livestock.

Gotta run, please remember TOMORROW IS RECIPE DAY!!!! if you have any good recipes to post on the board, tomorrow is the day!!! Tomorrow is the last day to post on the November Board, and we'll start the new board shortly after.

Good evening everyone. Where is everybody? I can't beleive that tomorrow is Thursday and we are still on the same board!

rsimon - Hope that you get your sleep regulated. Do we need to order up the "Serta Mattress Counting Sheep?" :)

beachfan - I have got to get back on my exercise routine. I was exercising before SB and not losing any weight. I will get back into it when I start back to work next week. I have got to try that green tea you keep talking about. I am also so impressed with your weightloss. May I ask how long it has taken you? Hang int here you are so close to your goal. Weight-lifting/training will really give you a boost, as it takes more energy to fuel a biiger engine (muscle). Good Luck!

Tired - Glad you are feeling a little better. I know what you mean about how food smells. Sometime I can cure a craving by just being able to smell it since that has more to do with taste that your actual taste buds.

Rosalie - WAY to go on the smaller jeans! I also got to buy a smaller size for the same reasons you describe. We need to start a jean swap for all of us going through these different sizes. We don't stay the same size long enough to warrent buying a new pair every month or so. :) You'd better let us know when you're outta the Big Girl sizes! Celebrate the day with us! I remember how humbled I felt this summer when I needed to go to a large size store to buy khakis and blouses that don't open at the bra line. But we do it to ourselves. I know that I hope that once I lose this weight that I never need a Big Girl size again!

Gingersnap - Looks like it was a jeans week for us all! Do you remember the 1979/1980 GV jeans that were dark blue with the gold stitches and the gold swan on the pocket? I loved those and my teacher had some (Mrs. Gay) and I thought she was soooo cool! I bet you're cool in yours too! :D

Thinagain - you need in on the jeans swap too!

GatorGal - WAAARRR EAGLE! Sorry, but I gotta pull for those tigers. I'll be watching Sat night! Have fun!

Deb - I'm watching this David Blain "thang" too and I can't beleive that fool got in that icegerg! Didn't he see what an iceberg did to the Titanic? I love to see his magic though. He is amazing! My Mom would die if he pulled that snake outta her hat. She'd never wear it again. She can't even watch the Croc Hunter. Glad you liked the rap. I was feelin' creative. I am soo happy with the loss and my new black jeans. I have been very thin and healthy in my life, even smaller than the goal of 130, but I realize that 130 is a realistic and safe goal, not the 118 I weighed when I was 20. THANK you for being such a great moderator of this board. What would we do without you keeping us going every week? You'll be back in those 140's again soon. May I also ask you how long did it take you to get to 150? I'd like to have an idea as to how long this will take me.

Got some Killer recipes for tomorrow. Until then!

Just a brief note to say "hi". I'm trying to get back on track after a week helping Mom unpack at her new retirement home. We had meals at the dining hall which was not set up for SB (I guess they figure the old folks don't have enough teeth for whole grains!)

I'm working long hours because no one covers my work while I'm gone; part of the challenges of being in a one woman branch office. Next week I'm leaving on a real vacation -- to a fitness spa in Utah with my sister and a friend :)

Deb, congrats on seeing the 140's on your scale! what a milestone. Thin, hope your baby's ok and doesn't need surgery. I'm glad you got rain -- we got snow and sleet. Rosalie, congrats on the new pants. Frog, congrats on the new jobs for you and your DH. I loved your rap and story about the dog.

RSimon, it was good to hear you on the Board again; glad you're back with this WOE. Beach, have you tried any of the new medications for migraine? might be worth checking out with your doctor if you start getting them again. Tired, sorry you've been sick, hope you're better soon.

Week one of the holiday season is over! one week of temptation down, two or three more to go!

Good morning!!

Yes its only 3:50 AM here - but I did fall asleep at 6:30 last night (I was too tired to stay up later..) - so I had about 7 hours last night. Feel better than yesterday but I could sleep more. I think what is waking me is that it is so dry now with the heat on (even with my humidifier going) that I'm waking up for a drink of water, but then I start thinking about things... I worked at home about 12 hours yesterday - just very very busy.

Frog - I loved the rap!! LOL!! We have an artiste in our group.

So what is this about sugar in salt? I didn't know that. hm.. Is it in all salt? I normally buy the cheapy generic brand since I thought salt was salt - but I will need to look into that.

I don't have any recipes right now - but Deb, would you post the pumpkin pie one?

I will check back in later.

Brace yourself! I'm about to get on my soapbox.

I am sitting here watching the Doctor who was one of the tribe members on Survivor on Regis and I'm getting madder-by-the-minute! He was talking about dieting and avoiding fad diets; he mentioned "The Zone." He didn't hold it up, but it looked as though the SB cookbook was on the table; in the pile that he was calling fad diets. He also suggested Xenical (weight loss drug) as an alternative! Noe I know there may be some of us Chicklets who are losing weight with the aid of a medication, but not by medication alone! And we are all testaments that SB is not a "FAD" diet!!!! What does a doctor gone celebrity via the South China Sea know about us anyway?!?

As I listened to this I am reminded of the section in the book that says that doctors and nutritionists are often hard to convince that this WOE is healthy, reasonable, safe and successful! Thank God my doctor put me on this path. When I go back to him in April I want to show him that he is absolutely right and turn more people on to SB! (Okay I'm stepping down from my soap box now)

I posted 2 recipes on the board; White Bean Chicken Chili and Broccoli Vegetable Soup. MMM MMM Good!

ALIHIKES - I hope that your Mom will be happy in her new home. Your spa vacation sounds heavenly and I'm green with envy. :p

RSIMON - Well, you almost had a regular nights sleep. Are you the person looking for the cake recipe? I have 2 SB legal ones for Chocolate cake with vanilla sauce and almond sponge cake with ganache icing. Let me know if you're interested. Glad you liked the rap song. Perhaps I'll humor the group with another sometime again soon. How 'bout a Christmas "Wrap?"

DEBBIE - Did you see my post from last night? Did you watch the entire David Blain special? He didn't look too good coming outta there. He is going to be on Rosie today, which is getting ready to come on as I type. I'm anxious to see if he is coherent this a.m. Oh she just said that he is live via sattelite because he's in bed!

Check back later! Ya'll put some good ol' recipes on the board so we can hush the mouths of people who say they're bored on this diet! PHOOOEY! :)

Enough for now. Gotta go enjoy my last Thursday at home before returning to the working world!

Hello all! I'm new to this board. I posted my bio yesterday. I've been on the Sugarbusters woe from mid-April and have lost about 15 pounds BUT I still have 30 more to go. I've been rather inconsistant...in other words,I cheat a lot! But I've decided that I'm going to go full steam ahead and be 100% committed. Need to figure out if I'm eating things I think are legal that aren't. Also, I've read the posts on Sweet Talk and Sweetsense, but never participated. So I'm looking foward to being part of and actively participating in a SB community. Not to babble on here, but just a little background...have been dieting for as long as I can remember. Have been on(some more than once) Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, cabbage soup diet, Atkins, Metabolife pills, Fat Trapper pills...did I miss anyone? Thankfully I wised up and didn't take any of the pills for too long. Then I found SB! and it made total sense and is so well balanced. Enjoyed reading all of your posts so far. Look forward to getting to know you all and hopefully contibuting some support and tid bits along the way.

Good Afternoon to All From Central Texas..
Sounds like most had a good holiday. I manged to find the stomach virus so no weight gain was a positive plus. We are entering the grazing period here at schoool before Christmas. Seems like there are treats every day just begging to be eaten.
Some one mentioned a legal cake, but I have found the receipe. If you read this please send it so I can try it out for some different parties. Our lives continue to be rather busy as my husband changes work gears, so to speak. I don't seem to post much, but do enjoy what everyone has to share.
Keep it simle. gena

Hi Everyone :)

Only have time for a quick note. Tomorrow is the day I am having a big party for my 13 year old and then on Sat. we have the SEC game and also I have to go to a bridal tea. So I will be very busy!

I was able to walk yesterday and feel great now. No headache :D

Someone asked how long I have been doing SB. I started on Atkins on Dec. 1 1999 and started SB one month later. So as of tomorrow I have been losing weight for 1 whole year! If you average out my weight loss I have lost a total of 75 pounds in 12 months for a monthly average of 6.25. I have tried to do this the healthy way and not rush or starve myself.

Just a note I think Gloryb has lost the same amount or close to the same amount as I have. When I reach goal I will post a new picture. If you look at the bio the picture was taken this summer and I weighed about 167 so 20 pounds more.

Everyone have a great weekend. I probably won't be able to post until Saturday night...see you then.

Oh...Frog loved the rap...

Evening Everyone! :D

I had such an exhausting day, never was able to get onto the board as I thought I would this morning. Went out for my walk - it was a really good one, back doing fast times again, so was happy. Ready to jump in the shower when the phone rang, it was Eli, his car broke down the way to work  I had to rush Lauren to get ready for school and drop her off and pick him up and take him to work. Decided to go to my Mom's house and spent the day running around with her before going to pick up Michael, then Lauren, then having to go get Eli's car and then go get Eli at work and then back home - not to mention, I've had a lovely headache due to TOM all day - so I am pooped and ready to go to bed (actually, I was ready this afternoon).

BUT, of course, I MUST get my post on the board - I have withdrawls!!! :D

Someone mentioned getting a MANDOLINE months ago - would you believe, when I went to my Mom's, she gave me one she got at a garage sale last weekend - I was thrilled, and even more so that it was a professional one from Williams-Sonoma that goes for $169! It looks like it was never used - she paid $2!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night, Mom was here at my house and I talked her into making these peanut butter and carob meringues - don't know what happened, but it was so wet, we ended up trying to save the mixture by putting it into a cake pan and baking it - would you believe, it was delicious!!! It was really small, and thin, less than an inch high, but the taste was great! VERY MOIST. Michael was the only one who didn't care for it because of the PB taste. I'm going to try to make it again, not the merigues, but the cake and use less sweetner in it next time.

FROG, thanks for the kind words about the board, I really appreciate it and it makes spending hours on the computer even that much more meaningful knowing my efforts are appreciated :) Of course, none of this would be existing without everyones participation!! David Blaine looked awful last night - I love his street magic, but can do without these tests of indurance. I started SB 8 months ago (March 22, 2000), so that's how long it's taken me to lose this weight. I think (or hope) I'll make it to goal by my 1yr anniversary, but if not, I'm sure it won't be too long after. In regards to how people talk about SB being a fad diet and unhealthy...my Mom told me she also saw a program recently saying how unhealthy SB is-these people don't even bother reading the book and checking their information! It pisses me off ROYALLY when this happens! They think this is low-carb like Atkins and it's NOTHING like Atkins at all - at least we know better!!!!!!!!!!!

ALI, welcome back!!!!!! We missed you! Hope everything went well with your Mom's move. Does she like the new place???

RSIMON, glad to hear you finally caught up on a little sleep! The info I posted on the salt is in a book titled GET THE SALT OUT. I don't know if it's all salt, but it would be interesting to find out for sure! I'll post the recipe for the pumpkin pie tomorrow, I'm too pooped tonight - you know that feeling!!!

MEL, WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!!! I see you are a seasoned dieter like the rest of us! I hope with the support of the board you will be less likely to cheat and reach your goal - really, at 30lbs, you are so close! When you cheat, you aren't getting the full benefits of what SB can do for you, not only helping you reach goal, but getting rid of the desire to cheat by getting rid of your sugar cravings. Of course, if you fall off the wagon and cheat, we won't come hunt you down and whip you with a wet noodle, but we'll try to give you the support to get back on track and hopefully be committed to this WOE fully. Again, welcome!! :D

TEX, sorry to hear you weren't feeling well either - lots of people sick with some type of bug lately! I have lots of cake recipes, so give me an idea of what you'd like, and what kind of sweetner you'd rather use - don't want to give you a recipe using agave nectar if you don't have it.

BEACH, you sound sooo busy! Hope the parties go well! HAPPY DIET ANNIVERSARY TOMORROW!!!!! What are your plans for your 39th birthday coming up on Monday??????

Well, time for me to sign off. Will check in with you all tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great night!

Good Night Ya'll. I probably won't be on the board tomorrow; going to MIL'S (mother-in-law) for the day and night to help her with a craft show/fund raiser on Sat a.m.

I have a question about a cake that I cooked today that was so bitter and had such a bad after taste that it honestly gave me a headache! I had to throw it out because the smell of it kicked that headache back in. It called for the "Pink Stuff" which is what it called for. I'd love some of those cake recipes that Deb mentioned. Mine was a first time for me recipe, so I'd love some tested ones.

DEB - Thanks for the vehement response about the skeptics. It didn't make me feel like such a radical. I reread what I wrote earlier and thought, "I sound like a maniac!" Oh well, is the PB pie still on the board? Being how I'm a born and bred Gaorgia Peach, with God as my witness, I do love peanut butter! :D This smilie looks kinda like the Jimmy Carter Goober ring I have in my trinket box from when I made a childhood trip to Plains. What are you referring to with the mandoline? Sounds like whatever it is you got a bargain! Thanks for letting me know about the speed with which you lost your weight. That makes me feel like this 60 lbs won't take me a life time! I just saw on our news about the Miami inner city garden that was stolen. Ya'll got all kinds a people stealing things down there: cars, flowers, votes :D Just joshin'. Hey at least those ballots are out Dade county! That oughta be some relief to your fellow residents.

Beach - Thanks for your input about your weightloss. You too have lost quickly. How inspiring!

Texas - I mentioned a cake in an earlier post but can't reccomend it. Sorry.

Mel - So nice to have another new person. I'm also new (about 2 weeks or so ) and have found this to be the best motivator for the loss and a great source of friendship. I know that when I post those numbers on Wednesday that whether they are higher, lower or the same, someone will post a kind word of encouragement. I also know that seeing those numbers on the screen and getting real with at least one person about those numbers makes it more "real" for me. No fooling yourself. Congrats on the 15 lb loss; I wish I were already 1/3 of the way there.

Take care and talk to ya'll again soon.

Good Friday Morning Everyone! :D

I'm feeling rested and back to normal today, thank goodness. I felt like a zombie yesterday! Getting read to get my walk in after Michael leaves for school.

TODAY IS FRIDAY FACTS and even though this is more towards a TUESDAY TIP, I thought it would be a good one to post due to Frogs question on S&L.

This BUSY COOKS site has a chart for sugar substitues to use, just click on it and it will take you right to the article:

http://www.busycooks.about.com/library/features/blgisugarsubs.htm

FROG, the PB PIE is on the October Recipe Board. As for the S&L, it says you can heat it, but I've seen enough things that says NOT to use S&L in baking, that it alters it and makes it bitter. I've posted the site above that should help you out finding a substitution. I have tried Ki-Sweet, it's okay, expensive, and you can only get it through a distributor (sorta like Amway). There are other companies who make a similar product that you can order from on the web, I will try to get the names for you. I find the AGAVE NECTAR to be the best, but other gals on the board use FRUCTOSE successfully. The MANDOLINE slices fruits and veggies really nice, more for a fancy or gourmet cook, but maybe I'll use it once in a while. Mom was the one who got the bargin, I reapped the benefits!! WOW, Miami made the news about the plants - I guess we've got to keep our name in the national spotlight somehow!

RSIMON, did you sleep in today???? Thought you'd be on the board way before me!! :D

Time to run - will check in later! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Happy Friday!!

I feel wonderful - slept 10 hours last night!! I'm so excited - haven't felt this good all week. Yesterday we received the results of our client acceptance testing of our system - the GUI (front-end) they used had problems (not our system) - but our system didn't have one bug!!! I was SOOOO pleased. All this work was worth it. So - I came home last night and slept like a log. I think we are over the hump. And its Friday!!

Welcome to this board Mel - this is a great support group - you will learn so much about SB and get all the encouragement you need to stay on the program!!

Frog - I get frustrated too when they mix SB in with all the other low carb diets. SB is NOT low carb, it is low sugar - and every healthy diet encourages complex carbs and low sugar. And I feel that as long as you don't focus on sat fats - this is as healthy as you are going to get. My cholesterol, trigycerides, etc. came way down after I started this. I don't have much weight to lose - but I would follow this diet anyway.
I don't think I was the one who wanted cake (altho I love cake) - but I do love your RAPS!! :D

Hi Gena - nice to meet you - I was off the board for a few months dealing with some personal issues - but its so good to be back. Hope you are feeling better.

Beach - have a great party - are getting sinus headaches? I think that's what I have been having - from the dry air. I need to turn up my humidifier.

Deb - my sister sent me 2 bags of dry roasted almonds from Trader Vic's. BOY - are they good!!!! - a lot like the almonds that are in the chocolate bars. Yumm..

For a Friday fact - SB can be customized for your own system - there are some foods (like ripe bananas) that some people can handle but others can't (like me..) Once you know how it feels to keep your blood sugar levels on track, it is so evident when you have eaten something that spikes your insulin.

Have a wonderful Friday everyone,
Ricki

It's Friday! FRIday!! FRIDAY!!!

Deb - thanks for the tip for sugar subs. I printed that page to stick in my shopping guide. Where (type of store) are you buying fructose? Is it a granulated or liquid form? I have seen that some on Sweetalk are also using it. ALso, I can't wait to look for the PB pie recipe. "Frankly my dear.." I will make that this weekend! YUM YUM!

rismon - HOORRAYY! You slept like you should! Congrats on getting your system accepted! I have some web design experience and my husband has his MCSE so I hear all about the hardware/technical end as well. I know that even if the problem is client centered that because it has to do with the computer it is NOW your problem! C-R-A-Z-Y! I appreciate your input on the people who misunderstand this diet. I can attest to the fact that sugar and starchy carbs (for me mainly rice and pasta) b/c I ran the Disney marathon in Jan 2000 and after all those months and miles of training I didn't lose any weight!! I would eat bagels, pasta, sugary sweets, candy, ice cream, and everything else I wanted b/c I was sure that I would lose weight running 40-50 miles a week. WRONG! I plan to run it again in 2002. Perhaps I will wear a T-Shirt that says "Body by Sugar Busters!" My cholesterol at the time (1 month before the race) was still 224! This October it had shot up to 284 in just 10 months! YIKES! The dry-roasted almonds sound great! Can we make that into a Bing Crosby Song? "Dry-roasted almonds from Trader Vics..." :D

Here is my Friday Fact: Your metabloism is at its highest early in the morning and slowly tapers as the day goes on. (Picture looking like a chart showing what Technology stocks are doing lately - falling.) Eating a breakfast and exercising in the a.m. give your metab an extra boost. Moreoever, These 2 (b'fast & exercise) will help to keep your metabolism at higher rate throughout the day. Eating a light snack between meals will also help keep your metab up, so it's very important not to skip breakfast or any other meal!

Now if I could just get MY fanny in gear and do my a.m. exercises! :o

Have a great day Ya'll!

Peace,

Frog

Hey ya'll...Debbie I use either Splenda or Fruitose...I am going to look for the agauve nectar locally and if I cann't find it will send for it. I would like just a basic chocolate cake or spice type cake to make to bring with me on the various grazing grounds that I go to. I am just determined to continue to lose over the holidays. When I indulge in sweets the next day I feel like I have a hangover. Needless to say not real well. I enjoyed reading how different folks have been SB for long periods of time and still losing. It's easy to get caught up in what I am doing right now instead of where I have been. It's amazing how all those 1 or 2 pounds add up....we or I should I forget.
Have a good weekend. The weather has finally turned cold in Texas. It's hard to believe it's December. Enjoy-gena

Good afternoon everyone :) :)

Thinagin, I am a bit behind this week responding to posts. I hope by the time you read this your ear infection is better. Sorry to hear about your son's eye problem. Hope it can be corrected without surgery.

Alihikes, welcome back and I hope your mom is settling in well at her new retirement home. You deserve a holiday and I am sure you will have a good time in Utah.

Frog Lover, I think we all need to get on that soap-box once in a while. It is maddening when you hear complaints about this woe from people who haven't even bothered to read the book. I am looking forward to that Christmas "Wrap"!. Have you tried Splenda or fructose for baking. I haven't used Splenda but I have read of lots of people using it successfully. I used to use fructose which worked well but I stopped using it when I found out that the brand I was using was made from corn-syrup, which is a no-no. Soon as I find one that is made from fruit I will use it again. The one I was using was granular, similar to sugar but a little finer. I buy mine in a health food store.

MelG, Welcome aboard. I like your honesty about the cheating. I guess most of us fall off the wagon once in a while. The important thing is that we can get back on track again. I agree with Debbie about trying to avoid the foods that give us cravings for more of the illegal stuff. Once our bodies are clear of the sugar and high glycemic foods it is easier to resist the illegal foods.

Gena, good to hear from you again and to know you are still around. Sorry to hear about the virus you had over the holidays. At least your are able to look on the positive side of things.

Beachfan, It sounds like you are in for a very busy few days. I hope your daughter's party goes off well.

Debbie, that must have been a very trying time you had yesterday. Glad you enjoyed the meringues you baked. Even if they didn't turn out as planned at least they tasted good. You asked before about the Brown Rice stuffing I made last weekend. It turned out quite well. The flavour was good even though I didn't have any almonds to put in. The rice was a little dry though. I was using a different rice. I usually use the brown basmati but this time I was using Uncle Ben's brown rice. The first time I used it I cooked it on top of the stove and it turned out O.K. I was quite impressed with it. This time I had cooked it in my rice cooker and I think it could have done with a little more water. Everyone seemed to enjoy it though. I didn't hear any complaints. That was a good deal your Mom got on the mandolin. I've had one for years but didn't use it much until someone on the board mentioned it. Since then I have been using it quite a lot. I find it good for shredding cabbage for coleslaw, and for onions if you need them finely chopped for a salad or meat balls, etc. Sometimes I will do some extra onions and throw them in the freezer. They are handy if you need some in a hurry, say for meatballs or hamburgers or whatever. BTW, what does S&L stand for.

Rsimon, Sounds like you had a really good sleep last night, you must have needed it. Congratulations on the success of your work project. It must be a relief to know that things turned out so well after all the hard work.

GloryB, how are you? My thoughts are with you. I know what it feels like to be away from the family for the holiday season. We don't have any family around except our kids who are close by, but when they were growing up it was sometimes hard not having other family around particularly at holiday times but at least we would be in touch by phone or writing. I hope you are able to be in touch with your sons and their families. Let us know how you are doing. I've missed your posts this week.

Bye for now.

Marie. :) :)

Hi Everyone! :D

Hope everyone is well - this week has been very slow on the board and I worry that as the holidays approach, more chicks will drop like flys! I really hope this doesn't happen, but I see that a lot of people haven't been on the board in quite a long time and I assume the majority have fallen off the wagon-some may return in time, others we will never hear from again :( I hope those of you who are still with me continue to realize how important this board is to staying on plan and not giving into the holidays - not to mention how important it is the rest of the year!!!

RSIMON, glad to hear you got your much needed sleep and that everything went well with the system for the clients.

FROG, I haven't bought FRUCTOSE, but I think ROSALIE has. I do see it in the HFS, but again, never bought it. It you have trouble finding the PB pie, just let me know and I'll locate it for you.

TEX, I will post a chocolate cake recipe over the weekend, and look for a spice cake recipe as well.

ROSALIE, thanks for letting me know about the rice dish - will try to make it soon. We followed the merigue recipe with only altering the honey and using agave nectar instead - mom said too much liquid is called for to make merigues! Anyhow, it was a delicious cake and I will definitely make it again!!!! S&L - Sweet & Low :)

GLORY, Oh well, it was nice while it lasted with Mom - I'm waiting for the Grandmother I know to return from hiatus! She's never been good this long!!! Glad all this didn't affect your loss - way to go on the pound loss!!! :D

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Will try to check the board before I hit the hay tonight, otherwise, I'll be checking in later tomorrow!!

It's only December 1st and already the holiday parties have begun!!! The challenge is on. I don't have a problem with the food part, but staying away from the alcohol is tough. Hard to milk 2 glasses of wine over a 5-6 hours. Thanks for the warm welcome. Hope you all have a great weekend!

hi everyone

I am a long lost SB er

Debelli checks on me from time to time and I begin to miss this list. I have bounced around from place to place. Also I was without a computer for about 2 months.

But my update is I started back on track again just this past Monday. So it has been 6 days for me. I feel good but have a long way to go. I am following Somersizing which is like SB only stricter. I am gona do it for a while until I get a chunk of weight off. I have been hovering in the 164 range for much too long.No big gains but no big losses either.

there are so many of you still here and doing so.......good. It makes me wonder why I cannot stick with something very long. My determination to lose is still with me. I just stall for long periods of time.

anyway. I do like this board and you gals ROCK!!!!!!!!

It is Saturday I hope you all get this message and I will check in next week..

Hi everyone..

Woke up this morning with a stomach bug - so I'm dragging - but managed to get my groceries and clean my house. Hope it doesn't last very long.

Mel - I know what you mean about holiday food - people start bringing candy and cookies into our office now - they are everywhere - and I already have invites to a few parties, including one for dinner. I try to tell myself - how bad I'll feel (physically and emotionally) afterward if I indulge.. sometimes it works!! :D

Christian - nice to meet you - I started SB last July, lost about 7 lb, and then left the board when I was under a lot of stress trying to find a new job. I admire you being to stay on it during a busy time.

Snowwoman - good for you for starting over again - don't even waste a minute looking back, its what you do now that counts. Do you like Somersizing? I have watched her on HSN sometimes and wonder what the diet is like. Not sure I could give up eating carbs with protein though.

Deb - where are you??? - Don't forget the pumpkin pie recipe. I will make it for the holidays.

Back to rest,
Ricki

Hey Everyone! Glad to see a few posts on the board today!! Went garaging, lots of sales, but not much out there - lots of junk!

I finally hit the 45lb mark! I've been running to the potty all day long, like the flood gates opened up, so I'm really hoping for a loss tomorrow! I can finally say I have 20lbs to go before I hit goal!! :D

MEL, maybe you can have some sparkling water with a twist of lemon in between drinks. We are going to Eli's Xmas party on Saturday the 9th, and I really don't worry about handling stuff like drinks, I don't drink anyhow, so I don't miss it. I'm making hummus, so at least I know I will be able to eat something there - not sure what to expect since this is his first Xmas at Starbucks. I'm sure you'll be fine though :)

CHRISTIAN, glad you got a minute to get on the board :) What type of store do you work at, I know you mentioned it before, but I forgot. Hope it doesn't get too chaotic for you during the season - people are already nutsy down here - I don't dare go near stores on the weekends!

SNOWWOMAN, glad to see your post!! You are correct that SS is a lot like SB but with more restrictions and the food combining. I read both books before deciding on SB because I knew I wasn't going to be able to stick with her diet, but I always say "what ever works for you!!" As for jumping around, many people do this, you aren't alone, trust me - many people go on a diet and don't see the results they are wanting right away and hear about something else someone else has had success with and jump to that, etc. etc. This may be you without realization. My Aunt is EXACTLY like this! She was following SS, because another Aunt is on it and has lost 12lbs, and now she's trying SB instead. I can't begin to tell you how many diets she's been on, not that I haven't been on my share, but the list is longer than Santa's! The keys are finding a WOE that is healthy, sticking to the plan, being patient & having support - like this board. Many of the gals on the board will tell you they have stalls - I use to get so discouraged when this happened to me, I'd got off whatever diet I was on - not anymore - I know that I am following this WOE without cheating and that the gains I experience are temporary, and sure enough, I do lose, just have to give my body a little time.

RSIMON, sorry to hear you aren't feeling well, I think you are pushing yourself too much and not getting your needed rest. Hope you feel better soon!! I'll get the pumpkin recipe on the board sometime this weekend, I promise - hard to get MY computer time with the kids here at home!

GINGERSNAP, I've never heard anything about the BOW FLEX, so had to go find their website - interesting looking contraption. Let us know if you get it and how you like it. I got Michael the AB SLIDE for Hannukah, and I'm dying to try it out!

That's about it! Nothing exciting to tell you today, so I guess I'll sign off. I'll try to check in later!!

Have a great weekend!

Happy Sunday Everyone :)

DEBBIE Congrats on only having 20 to go. I remember that feeling and it is a great one :D You have done so well and you keep the rest of us very involved and on track. Answering you question on how to stay motivated during the holidays...I think everyone has to make a committment to just take one day at a time and try very very hard not to go off track. But if you do at the next meal or snack eat RIGHT. Don't think well I've blown it so I might as well have another piece of cake...Throw any temptations out and if you are at a party...stay in the room farthest from the food. Eating right is all about the choices we make...

GloryB: Just so you know you are not alone :( in being blue at this time of the year...I have no parents, grandparents etc and neither does my hubby. So it is just us and the kids on Christmas. It is sometimes hard but I've decided to play up and have a good time with who IS here. We use the fine china, candles and I go ahead and cook a full meal!!! Maybe that will help. I also am an emotional eater so I remember the following saying when the times get rough...

"Each morning I wake up and say to myself, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood. I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can
choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I
choose the positive side of life. Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live life." Hope this helps some...it is my mantra at this time of the year :)

Yes DEB I will be 39 on Monday...it's a hard birthday because it means I am so close to
40 YUCK>>> My son has a choral concert that night and I will work all day so we will have a small family party here.

Well I have to tell ya'll I am so so excited. I was 144 this morning!!!! Only 4 more to go. I am so tempted not to eat for several days just to get to my goal weight but I not going to do that. It will be the same plan for me that I have been on for over 1 year now.

We had all the parties this weekend and they went fine. I think my daughter really appreciated the one that I gave her and her friends. The good thing about the parties is that my house is clean and fully decorated for Christmas!!!

I was able to excercise today so that is also a good thing.

GATOR, BIG Orange and Fruit: Florida was awsome this weekend and they made Auburn look terrible...I had to stop watching it was so bad.

See ya'll on Monday.

Good Sunday Afternoon!

"The weather outside is ..." Well they predicted frightful in the form of a Winter Storm for us, saying that is was gonna snow 8-12 inches, 16'' in some places. The stores are out of milk and bread, yadda yadda yadda, but we didn't even get a FLURRY! I was really hoping for the snow, oh well. I'm not in control now am I?

Finally had pizza yesterday! Hooray. One of life's little pleasures. We made the curst from the recipe in SB for Life II cookbook. I topped with legal ingredients from a pampered chef cookbook. YUM YUM! :D

Have another dog trauma story to tell you. Let me preface this by saying that the smoke alarm and pagers, the beep-beep sounds on the heart monitors on the ER type shoes, etc. send her running for cover. She runs around the house crying as if she is trying to round us up and get us out of the house; prompting us to call her "Fire Marshall Brown." This behavior started when we were gone for a few hours one day and the battery went low on one of the smoke detectors. When we came in she was having an anxiety attack that lasted for several hours!!

At my in-laws Friday night the power in the neighborhood went out. This caused the surge protector on my FIL's computer to begin beeping; the same type of sound as a smoke detector. OH NO!!! My dog was so worked up (Within a matter of 45 seconds) that she was on the bed shaking so hard that you could hear her teeth clacking! It ttok us an hour or more to get her calmed down enough to go back to bed. Panting, crying, shaking, etc. It hurts me to see her in distress and makes me crazy b/c I can't do anything for her. How is it that I got such a wonderful and neurotic dog?

DEB - found the PB pie recipe. Thanks! Are you gonna share the meringues with us? My Mom says she is interested in learning more about SB. She went to buy the book but decided to wait until payday to purchase. I guess she has more discipline with money than I do! She reported that she purchased some SF bread!! WAY to go MOM! Congrats on reaching the 20 to go milestone.

CYNSEA - good to hear from you. I wondered where you went. I sent you a personal message when I first joined this SG. Did you ever receive it?

THINAGAIN - I'll keep a good thought for your son.

ROSALIE - thanks for the source for the Fuctose. I'll check the HFS soon. I have Splenda and enjoy it in my coffee. I haven't tried baking with it yet.

MELG - I second Rosalie's post about getting the sugar out helps with resistance to the junk. I suggested making wine sprtizers with Diet Sprite and wine to make the drinks "go a little further". This might allow you to squeeze in a few more glasses rather than just 2. I have also read that gin with diet tonic is legal if these interest you. Don't be afraid to take your own mixers if it will make you more comfortable. Bar tenders are friendly by nature and hosts want their guests to have fun; therefore neither should mind if you BYOD (BYO Diet-food).

SNOWOMAN - Welcome back! My current weight and your SW, and our GW are the same. I will be thrilled to get back to your CW. Hang in there.

GLORYB - So glad to read your cheery post! It is good to shre with others when you're feeling down so that we can help in the ways possible. What kind of dog is your "snugglebug?" Your successful weight loss is sooo inspiring.

RSIMON - We gotta get you feeling better. Do you need a vacation?

CHRISTIAN - I have worked retail a few Christmas seasons in my day and they are TUFF aren't they? You never get a minute to relax and when you finally get your lunch break you have to fight the crowds to make your way to an even more crowded food court! But what I loved about it was all the Christmas music and present buying and knowing that I was keeping a secret about a gift for someone I'll never know, the "bell ringers," the performers on center stage, etc. It can be a fun time too! But you gotta wear good shoes! ;)

That's all for today. Will be outta town (maybe if the weather stays clear) tomorrow so no post from me.

Peace,

Frog

Hey all. Hoping for alazy Sunday, but that's not gonna happen. I'm beginning to stress out about the holidays - that's when I eat  So, now that I'm aware of that "trigger," I hope I can avoid the downfall...

We picked up some Valhrona chocolate last night. Too pooped to indulge, though. Found it at Trader Joe's. I also found their "no sugar, no added sweetener" list of products. How thoughtful of them.

I'm spacing out on who I should respond to.

Lessee, I have read tht S&L is not recommended for baking. And A few years back (during my Weight Watchers days) I made some pumpkin muffins with it and man, they sucked! :P I felt obligated to eat some of them because I made so many. But they ultimately wound up in the trash. Fructose that I buy at Fred Meyer's (a NW store) is granular and works great in baking. But I hadn't thought to check to see what it was made from. Hmmmm... It was brought up that someone's fructose was made from the dreaded corn syrup. I'll see if I can find an ingredient list on the bin next time.

I find that I don't tolerate corn syrup stuff well anymore. So I keep away from that.

Can you believe it? I can't find the downstairs portable phone! I turned on the pager and heard it beeping but couldn't find it. Joe just found it in my box of paper to be recycled. What a dork!

Joey (the 4yo)keeps asking "Is it Christmas yet?" We aren't pushing the Santa part of it. I try to emphasize other traditions. But he doesn't like listening. And he keeps finding gifts and asking if he can open them. *sigh*

Well, the household has exploded. Gotta go (No, we're talking emotional blow-ups....)

Later.

Good Sunday Evening All!

Decided I better get on the board while no one is at home. Had a leisure day, kids are both out, Eli at work. I had lunch with my friend Gail today at Longhorn. Gail is also following SB, and is taking a peek at our board, so Gail, if you are reading this, HI!!!!! :D

Got my walk in this morning, weather was beautiful!!

CYNSEA, hope you got whatever the problem with the computer was fixed. If you continue to have trouble, and you think it's the site, let me know and I will see if Suzanne can help you out.

BEACH, CONGRATS!!! I can't believe you lost another 2lbs! That's wonderful. 4lbs to goal, I'm so excited, and it's not even me!!! :D Just remember, I'm exactly 2months older than you, so I'm 2 months closer to hitting 40 than you are. We can cry together next year!

FROG, sounds like you experienced what we experience here in Miami with hurricanes. They scare everyone and tell them to get prepared and we don't even get a drop of rain - but hey, you'll be prepared for a storm when it really comes! Funny thing is, half the food I buy for hurricane season, I'd normally never buy! Sounds like your pizza came out good, I tried making a pizza crust from their book, well, lets just say the garbage can thought it was pretty good  Your poor puppy! That must be hard to see her when she is like that. The merigues didn't come out right, but I will post the recipe anyhow and if no one else gets it correct, just throw it in a small baking pan and bake it like I did, it was great! Tell your Mom to check out copies of Sugar Busters on line, you can find them so cheap on either Ebay or Half.com.

CHRISTIAN, glad to see you on the board, and getting some time to yourself :D I can only imagine how busy you are at work, I personally like the dollar stores and sometimes find some interesting items there. Hope it doesn't get much more hectic for you!!

THIN, it's good you know that the holidays stress you out, but you shouldn't let it. Try to keep things in check. Knowing this triggers your wanting to eat is good to know, just make sure you don't act on the trigger now :D I never saw the Valhrona chocolate at TJ's - what type of chocolate is it?? Let me know, then I can have someone get me some when they come down next time!! I need to look into FRUCTOSE some more. I don't know what other types there are besides the one I saw at the store that said it was made with CORN SYRUP. I've yet to buy any. The one that had corn was FEATHER something. The other brand there didn't specify where it was derived from. Glad you found the phone :D We are always losing ours!!

Well gals, that's it for me. Please remember TOMORROW IS MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY!!! so if you have any words of wisdom you'd like to share with the board, please post them tomorrow.

Gotta get my cookbook out so I can post the recipes I promised!!!

Toodles!

Good evening everyone and I hope you have all had a good weekend. :)

Mine was busy as it was my weekend to work but it was a pleasant one. Not too busy. I didn't have any time to do exercises this morning but have just managed to do about half of one of my tapes. May do some more when I finish posting if I have time. I want to watch some TV at midnight. There is a repeat of the Charlotte Church program on Channel 17. I missed most of it earlier, just caught the last 10 minutes of it as I didn't relaize she was on to-night.

FrogLover, It must have been a relief not to have the storm, even if you were prepared. We've had a few flurries here this last week but not enough to cover the ground. The longer it keeps away the better. I've made the pizza recipe from the SB for Life ll cookbook. It went down very well, everyone enjoyed it. It's about time I made another one. Have you tried the bread recipe from their book? I made it the other day but wasn't too impressed with it. It was eatable but I have tasted much better. The oatmeal bread I make tastes much nicer.

Christian, I don't envy you working in a store at this time of year.

Debbie, it must be a good feeling to know you only have twenty pounds to go.

Beachfan, congratulations, only four to go, WOW. Don't worry about getting closer to 40. It isn't how old you are but how old you feel.

Thinagin, the fructose I was using was made by a company called Vita Health in Canada. It didn't have the ingredients on the package but I found their web site and sent them an e-mail asking them what it was made from and was told corn-syrup. I was quite pleased when I first found it as it was a lot cheaper than another brand I had bought previously. If I find any other brand again I'll try to check it out before I buy it.

I'd better go know if I am to get in some more exercise before the TV show.

Goodnight everyone.

Marie.

Hello girls! Just been lurking lately...
Made it through the weekend of birthday parties and superbowl parties, and narry a grain of sugar passed my lips. Somehow, if I just don't focus on it, and it remains blurry, like in the background (mentally) it's easier to resist. Last night while my husband and kids were having chocolate and cookies for dessert, I must admit I got a little pouty. I made myself some hot cocoa with milk, cocoa powder (unsweetened) and a squirt of sugar-free maple syrup and it was great. got me through.
would you believe I've lost 15 lbs so far, and no-one has noticed? not even my husband. I'm going to remain low-key about it, as I"m tired of tooting my horn, and then not following through, but I do find it a little odd. Maybe 20 lbs is the point where people start to notice?
Well, I tried making the chocolate roll for the super bowl party. All I can say is, thank goodness I had a backup plan. It was horrendous. I took a regular recipe and just substituted ww flour for regular and splenda for sugar. Uh uh. Of course, I saved the chocolate disaster, and am eating it myself as a little treat (in very small increments) sort of like a chocolate biscotti. God forbid I should throw out any food, no matter how horrific it is. http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//dizzy.gif

Happy Monday Everyone.
Here is your quote for today: JUDGE YOUR SUCCESS BY WHAT YOU HAD TO GIVE UP IN ORDER TO GET IT. Dahli Lama
I have company over for the next 13 days. I am really doing my best to stick to SB way of eating. I keep this quote in my mind daily. I have convinced them to eat at my house so I can cook the SB way, My guest are being understanding. Have a great Week everyone.
