Hi everyone- :flow1:
(I hope I'm posting this in the right place!!)
I'm on day 4 modified Atkins (modified by cutting out the red meat, mayo, and very limited on cheese and butter) I'm feeling really good- lots of energy, not hungry between meals, taking all my vitamins....but starting to have really sore muscles. I walk about 1.5 to 2 miles a day and do some stretches before I head out...anyone have any suggestions? I drink plenty of water. Right now according to my 'pp' meters I am in deep ketosis so maybe this has something to do with it...?
Also: my skin feels unusually oily, I've been washing it 3 times a day in hopes that I don't suffer with any breakouts. Is this the diet and will I adjust to it?
I'm lovin' this site!
(my husband keeps asking me why I'm always online now!)

POTASSIUM!!! must take in this stage of the game!! and even some magnesium calcium zinc combo also will help!!!
if i get to that stage i take 1 in the morning and again one in the evening for a few days then drop back to only one a day. be careful start with one daily though if you need to and it is not resolving then go to two!
great going isn't the energy that you feel wonderful!!!
keep it up and post often
(my DH had a problem with me bieing on line too but i told him i get more out of my friends here than he does on the TV!!) that shut him up!!)

Welcome Christa! I'm on day 2 of Atkins myself and so far I am loving the effects. I was on the carbohydrate Addicts Lifespan Plan for about 2 years but I found it wasn't working for me anymore--hence the switch. I know that I have lost a few pounds and yes, my skin in definitely getting oilier (and smellier! due to ketosis) but I feel pretty good. I'll watch out for leg cramps. And thanks Sue, I was wondering what supplements I should take! :D

Taking the magnesium also helps keep me from getting constipated. after the first few weeks constipation can be a problem so be aware. and be prepared with the mag/cal/zinc

Thank you to all who replied! I take 300 mg potassium a day- I'm thinking maybe this is not enough....how much should I be having?
* and increasing my water intake on hot days really helped too! *
(and I've lost an inch off my waist!!!!!!!! How can this be possible???)

By the way, if your test is showing deep purple, although it is good to know you are in ketosis, you also need to drink more water. It should not be so dark if you have enough water to hydrate your body you will be putting out lighter colors on the ketosis sticks. If you are not drinking enough water, the toxins that are being released through your kidneys could damage the kidney cells - too consentrated and too toxic at that consentration - so you need to drink lots more. I know you think it is enough, but if you are getting very dark results, it really is not enough. I think the formula is about 100 oz. plus one more for every .... so many pounds of weight... or, sixteen squared plus half your pet's shoe size... wait. Maybe I am a bit mixed up about the formula... Perhaps someone else remembers?
And if you are worried about oily skin, it may actually be a good thing. Ask someone with dry skin. But it may not seem good - just wash your face (and any other area where you have had break-outs) more often. If break outs do occur, find some homeopathic help at your drug store or health food store.

the formula that i go by as a rule is atleast 1/2 oz for every lb you weigh as i work out heavily and on very ot days i try for more my dream goal is 120 oz daily. some days i hit it easily but as it is getting cooler i find it hard toget close to the actual original goal.
I would not take any more that what you are taking that should be enough is it spread through the day??? it may be that you are taking it too much at one time and the body can not absorbe it all at the one time. also make sure then to take magnesuim. that is an important element in the muscle contractions too. so take that and let us know if that helps. drinking the water should help greatly too!
