View Full Version : Somercizers chat Sept 6+
mauvaisroux 09-07-2002, 12:14 AM Hi ladies!
I just thought I would start a new thread for us.
Jennifer- well as long as it wasn't something like fluffy pink poodle or delicate flower or something sissy like that, I will stick with sultry;) and sassy is okay too:lol:
Anne- I hope the new meds work for your son.
Aleka-I can't believe they are trashing the whole site either, what a waste.
Nikkic-hope you get good results from your mammogram.
Well I am off to bed but I plan on posting tomorrow so I can keep myself OP. I find the weekends really hard to stay on track.
I am going to a football game tomorrow and lord knows what I will eat there:rolleyes:
Goodnight:)
aleka 09-07-2002, 08:03 AM I can't believe it's the weekend again. DH & I went out to dinner with friends last night. I think I did ok. I passed on the bread basket, but my tongue was hanging out while the others dove into it, but it passed :tied: I had chicken cordon bleu w/a hollandaise sauce, which I hope was legal, and coleslaw instead of salad. I took a tiny bit of coleslaw in case it may have had sugar in it, but it wasn't sweet in the least bit, so I guess it was ok. I did get a baked potato, which I didn't touch, a restaurant baked potato is less of a temptation for me. Of course our friends had to make an issue of my not eating the baked potato, or a potato in general.
mauvaisroux, thank you for starting another thread. I find the weekends very hard to stay OP. Have fun at the football game. I haven't been to a football game since high school. I really love going to the games, but can't stand to watch it on TV.
ANNE D, I hope that the medication helps your son. I have two friends who each have an autistic grandson. I remember once I was visiting one of my friends, and she had her grandchildren there. When I was leaving, he came over to me and hugged me goodbye. I almost started to cry.
nikkic, I hope you have good results on your mammogram. I honestly can't believe that they will trash everything, especially the recipes on SS website. I will see how being away from that site for 2 weeks is, I may not even go back. Sometimes I get so angry :bomb: at some of the comments some of the people make over on that site.
I hope you all enjoy your weekend.
ANNE D 09-08-2002, 08:31 AM Good Morning Everyone::wave:
Still hot here in Toronto although it looks like the weather is
going to start to become more seasonable by mid-week.
I have two family birthdays this month one on the 19th and
one on the 29th. I am debating on wether or not I will
indulge in a tiny piece of birthday cake or not. Problem is
There are three more family birthdays in October one on the
11 & two on the 20th, not to mention our thanksgiving:?:
What is a somercizer to do??? I am wondering if carb blockers
work for these occassions or they are bogus.
What do you folks do when these problems arrise and how does
it impact the scales.
Take care,
Anne.
nasus40 09-08-2002, 08:39 AM Anne i can say for a low carber some time the indulgence in a small piece of cake is OK do not totally block all fooods out save the ok treat or when you have a tottaly weak moment you will hog out and start eating all the foods you do not normally eat and then you will have to deal with the cravings and start all over again. what i do is know i have a party. plan on eating OP for the most of it but allow some cheating and limit the cheating. it is what i call a controled off day. it is easier to get back OP and doe snot impact the mind so much. it is not a failure but controled day off plan. for the scale you will see a short term gain depending on how much off you eat. of 2-3 lbs or more if you way over indulge. but that is due to the carbs. carbs will make you retain fluid. so it will last a few days or some times if you do not get back OP immediatly it may last up to a week or 2. but again it is just fluid and will come right back off. drink drink drink and it does help get rid of the fluid
aleka 09-08-2002, 11:38 AM ANNE D, nasus 40 gave you some good advice about indulging in a small piece of cake. You could also start feeling deprived because everyone else around you will be eating cake. One thing I thought of, if it wouldn't create a lot of negative comments, and if you think it appropriate, make one of SS sugarless cheesecakes and bring that a long for yourself. If you will really feel guilty about indulging in cake, you will have something sweet to eat. What I usually do is eat very light the day I'm going to indulge, then eat light the next day, and make sure I get my exercise in. I honestly don't care what the scale shows because to me that little indulgence is worth it. :s: DH birthday is the 29th of the month.
It is awfully hot here too. By mid week they say it could be over 90 and humid. I really can't wait for fall weather. Are your trees starting to turn yet? I've noticed a few sickly trees and swamp Maples starting to turn already.
Have any of you gone into the SS site and copied recipes from deanie? I just found them and they sound awesome, especially the pumpkin cheesecake.
ANNE D 09-08-2002, 12:51 PM Hi Everyone:
Your suggestions are all great!:)
I wanted to post this link to a recipe site that contains all
recipes on the SS boards. I am sure glad I have this!!
http://slgkali.homestead.com/recipeindex.html
My favorite part of that board was the recipes Oh well:shrug:
Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday.
Aleka, some of our leaves are down but it is like drought here
in Toronto. All our grass is Brown. Really Really weird.
Anne.
mauvaisroux 09-08-2002, 04:56 PM Hi everyone!
Hope you all had a good weekend:)
Well Imade it through the football game despite the scorching temperatures and the sun beating directly down on us. I was smart enough to put on 30+ sunscreen and wear a large brimmed hat so I didn't get sunburn.
I had two large bottles of water and an ice cream as a treat- no other junk food! Yay! I did it! The game was great, very exciting and evenly matched although our team lost, they have played pretty well this season.
It is still really hot here and everytime the wind blows it feels like air from a blast furnace:hot: I must confess that I was out with DH and we both had an iced cappucino from Tim Horton's just to get some relief from the heat. We might go to a movie tonight just to get out of the house. I promise that I will completely bypass the concession stand!
Jennifer 3FC 09-09-2002, 01:02 AM Mauv, delicate flowers weren't in the idea! ;) Something like Hot Pink Sex-Pot or something....hehe...
aleka 09-09-2002, 10:24 AM It is to be in the 90's today and tomorrow with humidity. Hopefully it will cool down towards mid week like they say it will. It sure doesn't feel like Sept. Went for my walk early this morning while it was fairly cool.
mauvaisroux, glad you had a good time at the football game in spite of the heat and your team losing. It must be hot where you live too. How long are your weather forecasters saying it will last? I can't wait until it cools down. I really love the heat, but by Sept. I'm ready for it to go.
ANNE D, thank you for the recipe site. I went into it and bookmarked it. I like the way they have it set up. I think between all the sites that people created while the SS site is down, we all won't be put out too much.
nikkic, hope you had a good weekend.
nikkic 09-09-2002, 05:00 PM Hi everyone,
Boy am I a:doh: I saw that this thread was started Friday, but I forgot to subscribe to it. I didn't think anyone had posted anything. Then, all of a sudden, I realized there was a new thread. I usually don't check around here unless I get an email saying that someone has replied. I was lost for awhile, now I'm ok.
Well, I ordered the Gazelle today. I was going to go with the QVC one, but I figure the Gazelle is probably heavier duty. I am back to 260 lbs, down 14 lbs. since starting. This TOM thing really plays havoc with my weight. Also, we bought a new scale, this one is accurate. Probably too accurate.
Man is it hot here too! 93 F when I went to the bank a 1/2 hour ago. We really need some rain, I hate to water anything this late in the season, but I will have to if we don't get some rain soon.
Nikki
ANNE D 09-09-2002, 07:35 PM Hi Everyone:
It was a scorcher here in Toronto today:hot: Tuesday is suppose to be the last day of this heat wave and we should be into
more reasonable weather.
You will love the gazelle Nikkic! It is such a great piece of
equipment. I get a laugh out of Tony Little on his tape. The
guy sure has enthusiasm!!!
Tonight is my jello and whipped cream night. I only eat this
little treat on Mondays and Thursdays. My favourite is Cherry.
It is sure easy to get the water down in this weather!!! October
can't get here fast enough for me!
Anne.
mauvaisroux 09-09-2002, 09:21 PM Hi everyone!
hope you all had a good day today:) It was really hot here too:hot: I am looking forward to the fall weather. I love wearing long skirts with leather boots and a cozy sweater :cloud9: and seeing the leaves turning colors. It is my favorite time of year!
They are predicting thundershowers for tomorrow:yikes: but we could really use the rain:rain:
I made the Balsamic chicken recipe for dinner and it was yummy :T
DH liked it too so it will be a keeper.
I checked out that SS website that Anne posted and it was pretty good. It had a few of PNeuman's recipes from the official SS site.
Are they just revamping the site or getting rid of it completely?
Talk to you soon!
aleka 09-10-2002, 12:35 PM It was a scorcher here too yesterday and it's going to be again today:hot: :hot: Yesterday the heat broke a lot of records around the state. By tomorrow it's supposed to cool off considerably. We desperately need some rain also. We are hoping that this sub tropical depression will come our way to give us some much needed rain, but I don't know if we'll get anything out of it or not.
DH bought a new pickup this summer, and today is the day he has the plow put on. We took it over this morning then went out to breakfast. I had this delicious Western Omlette. :T: and it has stayed with me all morning.
nikkic, where did you order your Gazelle? I'm sure you will really love it. Good luck with it!
mauvaisroux, I think they are just reconstructing the website to make it easier to navigate, I think someone posted on the site that it was to be down 2 weeks. With all the fabulous recipes that people have gone to the trouble to create and post, you would think they would keep them and not delete them. It just seems to me that all that time and energy was for nothing.
ANNE D, DH & I seem to have that Miracle Fluff every night!!!! Even though we don't count calories, I'm sure it has loads of calories, so I think that will be an occasional treat. DH loves the Fluff, and he was so disappointed when I said that this batch is it for awhile. I hope you get your cooler weather and much needed rain.
Enjoy your day.
nikkic 09-10-2002, 12:58 PM HI everyone,
From what I understand about the ss site is like Aleka said plus they said that there were too many threads, so they are going to delete all of them.
I love the fluff. I haven't made any for awhile, I was eating it morning, noon and night. It's too easy and too good. So, I backed off for awhile. I am making a batch today. My husband loves it too. He doesn't really like sweet stuff, but likes this because it's not too sweet.
I bought the Gazelle off of HSN. They had it for $199 and it comes with 4 videos. It is cheaper from QVC-$121, but theirs is sold out and it only has 1 video. So rather than be patient and wait, I went ahead and ordered the Gazelle. Anne, I sure hope Tony Little can motivate me to stay with it. I don't know why I have such a hard time with exercise. I like to do it, when I do it. I think I am basically a lazy person. In my former life, I must have been a cat, because all I want to do is lay around and be pampered.
:smug:
It is cooler outside today. We can finally turn off the ac. Last night we sat outside and it was really hot, til the sun went down. I will miss summer anyway.
ANNE D 09-10-2002, 01:54 PM Hi Everyone!
Still a cooker in Toronto:hot: I hate to bring it up but I feel
very nervous today. My thoughts are with this horrific
anniversary that is just hours away.
I pray to God that nothing else goes wrong.
Hope you are doing good on our eating plan. I recieved a
huge email from pneuman giving me pointers etc. I emailed
him and asked how long it took him to lose all his weight etc.
I also wondered where you could buy wonder cocoa.
I printed the email and I will read it on the way home on the
subway tonight. I will pass any good pointers on to all of you.
Have a great day!
Anne.
mauvaisroux 09-10-2002, 09:10 PM Hello everyone!
Still:hot: really hot here too. We had a brief 10 minute rainstorm and nothing else so far. The weather network said that it will be cooler here starting next Tuesday.
I am planning on making the miracle fluff this weekend:T
I am doing a little better on plan this week and have managed to sneak some more water in:)
I have seen Tony Little's Gazelle on the shopping network here and have been tempted but I don't have much room in my apartment for it. DH and I are thinking of joining the gym in October. We were going before and we really enjoyed it.
Have a great night!
nikkic 09-10-2002, 09:47 PM Evening everyone!
I made the fluff tonight. Good lord what a mess. I just can't seem to keep the stuff in the bowl when I mix it. I just expect to have it everywhere and wear old clothes.
I also made the grilled chicken salad from the new contest cookbook and the cafe amaretto custard. They were both good, but the salad is extra good. If you don't have the cookbook yet and your thinking about it, I recommend it. It doesn't have a lot of recipes in it, but so far they are all good. Plus they're easy and a lot more down home than her other books. I see on her website in the faq's that she is working on a book for less expensive recipes. I really think that is something a lot of people could use. I can't find 1/2 of the ingredients. I'm still waiting to get the celery root. I ordered it and the guy said it would be in in 2 weeks. So I go over in 2 weeks, he said he would have to call about it and I'd have it in one week. I called back today and nobody had any idea what I was talking about.
I have a hard time finding decent lettuce too. I've seriously been thinking about filling my basement with grow lights and flats of lettuce, green onions and herbs. Does anybody know anyone who does that and would it work? I wonder if you could grow tomatoes like that in big tubs. DH says we'd probably get raided because they would think we were growing pot.:dizzy: Wouldn't that be something, they'd probably confiscate my herbs by mistake and I still wouldn't have anything.
I saw in the paper that they are trying to legalize pot in Canada. Can you imagine what the border would be like? There would be a lot more border patrols. Probably more people than ever moving to Canada too.
I have no room for the Gazelle. I have a room full of exercise equipment and a really little house. I think I'll just have to fold it up when not in use and stick it behind something, somewhere. Maybe I'll have to get rid of something, like that torso (torchure) track. What a waste of money that was.
Anne, what did Peter say? I really think so much of him. He seems like he is so much older than 19.
Take care everyone, cooler weather is on the way!
Ruthxxx 09-10-2002, 10:05 PM Hey Nikkic, I do the grow light thing and have salad greens, parsley and basil all winter. Just wait until they legalize pot up here and I'll make mint shipping little "gifts" across the border!
Holler if you need to know about grow-light crops.
nikkic 09-11-2002, 01:42 AM Ruth, what do you think about tomatoes? I have a friend that says she grew them in a big pot in the winter. They were cherry tomatoes. I think I will give them a try. You have just inspired me to go for it. DH will be beside himself with my new project. But then he always is when I try something new. Thanks, Nikki
Jennifer 3FC 09-11-2002, 01:55 AM Alrighty, I have a question about the Gazelle. Are there that many things you can do on a Gazelle for 4 videos? I haven't ever watched the whole infomercial because Tony annoyed me! I really thought it was just the one exercise...more would be great!
Does it fold up?
nikkic 09-11-2002, 11:21 AM Hi everyone,
I hope we have a safe, uneventful day. I feel like we are forever looking over our shoulders now since last year. Today is probably more so that way than others. May God help us all.
The weather is beautiful today. I got up at 630 and cleaned my house. It's a small house, but since I'm in pain most of the time, it is still a big job. DH said he'd help me with it, but he does so much anyway. He is such a wonderful man. I can't say enough nice things about him. I've never known a man like him, although I know there must be more.
Jennifer, it looks like you can do more than one thing with the Gazelle, Anne can tell you about that better than me. I too find Tony really annoying, so maybe I won't be able to watch the videos. I think they are for beginners to advanced. The beginners is 8 min. long I think, advanced is 20. I am looking for something that is really easy on my joints. I have a broken ankle that has been trying to heal for over a year and 1/2. I've had 3 surgeries on it including a bone graft. The Dr. says it's healing, but I'm getting arthritis in it now, so I have to do some exercise of some sort with it. I can't put a lot of pressure on it, and this looks to me like it will be ideal. I have a hard time walkiing, I sure don't walk like anyone else. I hate the way that I am now and want to get stronger and more normal. This mimics walking without pounding on my joints (knees are going out too). Getting old is not for sissies. I know that losing weight will also help a great deal with this.
I hope everyone is doing well and staying as legal as you can. I kind of od'ed on the fluff last night. Fortunately, DH loves it and eats it up fairly quickly.
Later, Nikki
ANNE D 09-11-2002, 06:28 PM Hi Everyone!
The gazelle folds flat so it can go under your bed. I only have
one tape with my gazelle. I usually watch T.V. or listen to
CD'S to put in the time.
There are several moves you can do on your gazelle that
work several muscles. It really is a good workout. I always
break sweat and I am use to walking a couple of miles per
day, so I consider myself to be in reasonably good shape for
a heavy woman.
You get a really good workout on your upper arms, your abdomen, dierrier, really total body endurance.
Anne.
mauvaisroux 09-11-2002, 10:31 PM Evening all.
That gazelle sounds pretty good. I am thinking of buying one next time they are on the Shopping Network. I have a couple of Tony Little's workout tapes from a few years back. I found his workouts pretty good but he was a bit too perky for me :cb:
Then again, I got an Ali Mcgraw yoga tape for Christmas one year and I had to watch it on mute-the narrator sounded like that dead pan comedian Steven Wright. His voice was monotonous and depressing I wasn't sure if I should be working out or crying into a bag of cookies by the end of it:lol:
Sad to say I also have some Tae Bo tapes and some fitness through Bellydance tapes which are gathering dust:o I just can't seem to stick to anything:rolleyes: I have been checking out Pilates lately and just bought an introductory book, we will see it that actually leads to anything:p
Hope you all have a good night:)
aleka 09-12-2002, 07:48 AM It has finally cooled off. Yesterday I had a lunch and movie date with a GF. When I left the house it was in the mid 70's, and when I got home late afternoon it was in the 50's. We are supposed to warm up towards the weekend. We went to a Mexican Rest. for lunch, and I'm sorry to say my lunch was as un-Suzanne as you can get....but it was delicious:T If I had just eaten the filling in the wrap, it would've been ok. We saw "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" It was a riot!! I don't know when I've laughed so much:lol:
It sounds like we are all in the same boat in regards to exercise tapes and equipment. I have had a treadmill which was so boring even watching TV that I never did it. I did have the Torso Trak, which I loved, then the Ultra Trak came out and bought that, gave a Torso Trak to a friend, which I'm sorry I did because I don't like the Ultra Trak as much.
The Gazelle sounds great, especially getting a total body workout. Do all Gazelle's fold up, or is it only Tony Little's? There was someone else selling the Gazelle on HSN, Brenda Dygraf. I may go into HSN and check both of these out.
I'm glad nothing bad happened yesterday. We thought that if anything was to happen, yesterday would probably be the day.
Take care and have a great day!
nikkic 09-12-2002, 09:48 AM Good morning!
What a beautiful day.
I have so many exercise tapes, I could start a video store for them.
Aleka, I wish we lived closer, I'd give you my torso track. I can't get up and down from the floor to do it. It causes such pain in my ankle and knees, it brings tears to my eyes. DH used it for awhile, but he's kind of been slack on the exercise too. I have to get back to it and decided today was a good day to start. Just the abdoer for 8 min. It really helped me. I could barely sit up at first, let alone stand for any length of time. It helped to get my muscles in my back and middle stronger so I can do a lot more now. I still can't stand and wash all of the dishes at once, I have to take a break, but at least I can stand and do something now.
I made one pan chicken in alfredo sauce for dinner last night. It was really good and if the recipe is not here, I'll post it later. DH had 2 helpings and just kept saying how good it was. I was able to limit myself to one.
Nikki
Jennifer 3FC 09-12-2002, 10:15 AM I need to look for a Gazelle demo online. You guys are making it sound good! I should tell Cody (my son) to keep an eye out for it. Poor kid, everytime he sees a weight loss commercial, he comes to tell me with big excited eyes. He thinks I look fine, like all little boys do about their moms, but he knows about the website and the diet, so he is my little helper. I REALLY want to exercise in the living room. My basement is poorly lit and smells just like a basement, cement floor, cinder block walls, NO atmosphere so it just isn't pleasant to go down there all by myself. Thanks for the info!
Jennifer 3FC 09-12-2002, 10:16 AM BTW, when the SS site is down, you can ask your friends to come over here and post. No hard feelings if they all disappear when the site comes back up!
nikkic 09-12-2002, 10:46 AM Jennifer,
That's where I plan to do it, in the livingroom. I have no room under my bed, so I'm going to shove it next to the couch and wall.
As far as people from the ss site goes, there are 4 or 5 different sites that they have gone to or maybe more. Some people set up boards, just for it, there are already established places too. I think it will be fragmented, at best, and I'm so glad I have you guys to come to. Jennifer, I don't know if you read my post on the last thread, but I love this website. I think you and your sisters have really thought of everything to make it easy to use and fun. Thank you so much for all the work you do. Nikki
ANNE D 09-12-2002, 08:54 PM Hi Everyone!
Nikkic I agree with you. This site is the best. Jennifer, you and
your sisters should be proud of creating such an excellent
forum! What an awsome accomplishment! I certainly appreciate it!:cp:
Mauvaisroux, I know just what you mean about exercise tapes!
I have 2 Susan Powter, 3 or 4 Tony Little workouts, Several
Richard Simmons, and yes I too have a couple of Tao Bo
My oldest son is turning 22 on September 19, 2002 and I
bought him the Winsor Pilate tapes. He is very fit and slim but
he loves his exercise!!
Aleka: The gazelle folds flat. I am glad to hear it is cooler where
you are too. This summer has been a bummer!!
Talk to you all soon.
Anne.
mauvaisroux 09-12-2002, 09:35 PM Hi everyone:wave:
It is cooler here today! Thank goodness, I can't wait for fall or as DH calls it "leather jacket weather"
I have been totally Off Plan for 2 days. I have been eating out of boredom and depression. I will get back on the wagon this weekend...I'm going to read the SS book again and plan my menus for the week. I want to lose some weight before my friend's wedding which is at the end of October.
I am kind of mad  at myself for not sticking to this, I need to give myself a serious kick in the butt.
nikkic 09-12-2002, 09:57 PM Evening everyone:spin:
Love these little guys:love:
Fall sure is coming quick now. It's getting dark a lot earlier, some leaves are starting to build up at my back door and the ac has been off for 2 whole days! I wish we could go camping one last time, but it doesn't look like it. DH put in a new side door on the garage and now he has to put on new siding on the garage. It is old and really looks bad. He just wants to put up the cheap kind, but then after that it needs to be painted and that will take us into October before it's done. He will only work on stuff like that on his days off. I don't blame him, he's so pooped during the week.:snail: He asked some of his family to come and help him, but I don't know if they'll show up. It'll probably be just us out there. I don't mind painting, but I really hate to try to put on siding.
Mauvaisroux, I'm sorry to hear you've had a couple of off days. I'm glad to hear you have a plan to get with it again. Here's your vertual kick in the butt:dancer: I'm sure I'll need one someday too.
I've now hit a plateau of sorts it seems. No movement on the scale. I did exercise today and ate right. For supper I made Baked Cod with butter and seasonings, fresh steamed green beans with butter and deviled eggs. When I make deviled eggs, I put a little juice from the dill pickle jar in with the yolks (with mustard and mayo of course). It gives it a really good taste. If you do it, don't add too much, they'll get runny.
Later, Nikki
ANNE D 09-13-2002, 08:28 AM Thank God its Friday Ladies!
I've got a question for everyone. How much fruit do you eat in
a day?
I begin my day with 2 fruits and l let it go there. For instance
this morning I ate a nectarine and a handful of grapes. I follow
that with all bran 30 minutes later.
For the rest of the day everything I ingest is pro fats.
Although we do not count calories, I would be interested in
tracking a weeks worth of food and taking a tally.
Talk to you later.
Anne.
nikkic 09-13-2002, 02:44 PM Anne,
I hate to say it, but I don't eat much fruit. I was just thinking about that last night and went out and bought some plums today. I haven't had but one carb meal since I started. That was oatmeal. I was reading in Suzannes messages about being at a plateau and this is what she said-"If you are having trouble losing weight, or if you have hit a plateau, the first thing I would recommend is to cut back on (fruits and carbos) these two food groups." Also, no cheating, exercise, give up nutrasweet, have your hormones checked and be patient. Before it's gone, you should read it, it's under messages from Suzanne, what to do if you're not losing weight, or hitting plateaus. She also recommends to eat pro/fats for breakfast 3-4 times a week if you're stalled, but if you are doing well, then you can increase the amount. I'm not saying anyone is stalled or having problems, but it does have some good info in there besides what I said, for future reference. I am not really losing now, but I'm getting smaller, so I know my body is changing in different ways right now. I feel like I'm a butterfly, and I'm metamorphizing. Well, I hope when I'm done I'm a butterfly and not a closet moth or something. I'm also going to try to eat oatmeal at least 2 times a week. God how I hate it. But I'm going to force it down.
I don't know if I believe the one about nutrasweet. She says that Dr. Schwarzbein has read that it causes insulin to be released. I would really like to have references to a study and results from that study rather than word of mouth info. I wish more things were made with splenda. It's natural and tastes better, in mho. Plus, it's a lot cheaper than somersweet.
Nikki
ANNE D 09-14-2002, 11:09 AM Good Morning Everyone::wave:
I got weighed this morning and I am down another 2 pounds!
In total I have lost 22 pounds!!!
I am determined to kill most of this weight by next summer.
I am going to start doing my weights again to firm up my
upper arms so I won't be hiding behind my jacket all summer
long!!:cp:
I alreadly feel so much better and I know I certainly look better.
I will be buying a scanner/printer/photocopier for my kids for
christmas and I will scan my top weight picture and a picture of
me in December to show you the difference!!!:cb:
Have a great day>
Anne.
nikkic 09-14-2002, 11:42 AM Hi everyone,
Yea Anne! I am so happy to hear that! I was just feeling so good before I got on here and then to hear your good news and that your feeling good too, made my day!
I was just thinking about all of the positive things I've done for myself in the last year. I quit smoking, gave up sugar and caffiene, started taking multivitamins and supplements and started to exercise. I feel great and I know things are just going to get better. At first, I seemed to be crawling, but now I feel like I'm picking up speed and I'm going to make it to my goal.
I will sure look forward to your pictures Anne. I want to post some on my next birthday-6-17-03. I have one of me on my 45th, right before I started to ss. I hope I look a lot better by 46!
Nikki
ANNE D 09-15-2002, 08:16 AM Nikki:
Quitting smoking is not an easy feat. I know because both
my husband and I were heavy smokers until we quit 12 years
ago when my father developed lung cancer.
My dad has had 4 surgeries. is 71, and alive today!
I use to buy 3 large packs per day and my husband and I would
split them. I really gained weight then as did my husband I
would say I easily put on 30 pounds:fr:
Did quitting smoking cause you to gain too?
Anne.
nikkic 09-15-2002, 09:12 AM Anne,
Glad to hear that you and your DH are nonsmokers. Good for you both!
I smoked for 27 years, at the end it was 2 pks a day. I didn't gain any weight when I quit, because I was trying to lose weight too. I had just had my 2nd surgery for my ankle and the Dr. said for it to heal, I had to quit smoking and lose weight. I couldn't cook (wanted to ss), because I had to lay down all the time. I couldn't even get to the kitchen to get something to eat. DH is not much of a cook and he was so busy trying to work and keep everything going. We just ate Healthy Choice dinners 2 times a day and usually cereal for breakfast. I did lose about 30 lbs in one month and I was so hungry. I don't think I did myself a favor. I wasn't thinking about what my body needed to heal itself. In fact, I thought I was eating right. Low cal and low fat. Oh, and I was taking a lot of pain medicine and my ankle was black most of the time, so I felt really ill too. Well, as you know, it didn't work. About 3 months later when the Dr. said my ankle was breaking down and I'd have to have surgery again, I started to eat like crazy. I felt so deprived and angry. We bought all the conveinence/snack food you can imagine. I gained back everything I lost, plus 20 in about 3 months.
So, it hasn't been easy. I still want to smoke. It's not as bad as it use to be. I feel so much better. I can breathe without coughing, my throat isn't sore, I don't have to constantly clear my throat. I know I smell better. At first, when I found out it didn't help my ankle, I wanted to smoke again too. But I figured, I beat it this far, I can keep on doing it. DH doesn't smoke and his mother had died of emphysema just the year before. He is so glad I quit and so am I.
Now it's time to lose weight and do it as healthy as possible. I know this is going to happen. It may not be as fast as I want it to be, but it will be permenent and something that I can keep doing. I never could have eaten Healthy Choice dinners the rest of my life, they're so gross.
I was so glad to hear your dad is still alive. Cancer is so hard to overcome (understatement of the year).
Man can I carry on or what? Talk to you later, Nikki
nikkic 09-15-2002, 08:35 PM HI,
Just wanted to let you guys know about a few things I found at Walmart that are legal. I hate oatmeal and was looking through the cereal isle and found- Puffed Brown Rice cereal and also puffed Red Wheat Cereal. They are both in the part with the cereal in the bags, you know the cheapo's. I tried the puffed brown rice and it is a lot like rice crispies. I liked it. There is nothing else in it. Also, I was looking in the frozen treats and found a kind of popsicle. They are called Budget Saver (brand name). They have 6 flavors in them and I think 12 in a bag and are sugar free. They do have nutrasweet in them. They taste great! I thought they must have made a mistake and put the sugar ones in there, but I'm on my second bag and they really are good. They're $2.66 for a bag of 12. Make sure, if you get them, to get the ones with sugar free in big letters on the front. They also make ones with sugar, I almost picked them up this last time.
Has anyone else found any treasures at the supermarket?
Nikki
mauvaisroux 09-16-2002, 12:13 AM Hi everyone!
Hope you all had a great weekend:)
Thanks for the Walmart info Nikkic, I would love to try out those popsicles!
Congratulations on the 22lbs Anne:cp:
Good for both of you for quitting smoking! I quit when I was about 22 and have never looked back:D and my DH doesn't smoke either.
Well I sneaked a couple of buttertarts at a friend's place this weekend:rolleyes: so back OP on Monday!
Have a good night!
ANNE D 09-16-2002, 08:06 PM Good Evening All:wave:
I don't know about you folks but I am so relieved when
Monday is over. No wonder there are so many songs written
about Mondays!
For snacks, we enjoy pork rinds with melted butter and melted cheddar ,mozerella cheese with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. Very crunchy
We all loved our chips so these are a beautiful substitute.
We have tinkered with the recipe and now its fantastic.
Tonight is my cherry jello and whipped cream night!
I honestly don't feel like I am on any kind of diet!! This diet
is like a dream come true. I wish I had know about this WOE
years ago. Oh well, better late than never!!:lol
Anne.
mauvaisroux 09-17-2002, 11:49 PM Hi everyone!
Hope you are all doing well.
I now have extra incentive for Somercizing. I was told by my doctor that I had to cut out caffeine, caffeinated soft drinks, and chocolate. So this may be the nudge that I need to go into full mode:lol:
Yay! Tomorrow is humpday and we are halfway to Friday!
It is kind of sad if you are asking if it is Friday yet and it is only Tuesday:lol:
ANNE D 09-18-2002, 01:17 PM Hi Everyone:
So far I am having a pretty good week. My oldest son will be
22 on Thursday and I have decided I am going to have a diet
dessert I am allowed instead of birthday cake. If I start eating
cake at every occassion that is coming my way in the next few
months I certainly won't gain any ground with my diet.
I am doing so well and I feel so controlled at the moment I'm
going to do like the everyready bunny just keep on going.......
I wonder where Aleka has been lately. I hope she is ok.
Hope you guys have a great day.
Later
Anne.
aleka 09-18-2002, 02:04 PM I'm glad to see that everyone is doing well. I haven't posted in awhile because I'm having a difficult time sticking with SSzing. The food combining is getting to me. Occasionally I do like buttered toast with my bacon & eggs, and I also like some protein with my pasta, and some starch with my dinner. I love everything about her WOE except for the food combining. I truly believe that a low carb diet is the way to go, which I will continue to do. I might just try to do the Level 2 for awhile to see how that goes.
Have a great day everyone.
ANNE D 09-19-2002, 01:25 PM Hi Again,
Aleka: I know how you feel. I am sure I mentioned it before
but eight years ago I lost 100 pounds with WW. I could not
sustain the entire weight loss because I found it much to
restrictive calorically. Actually I was lucky I managed to keep
some of that weight off all these years!
I am a person who loves protein and I have always been a
big meat eater. I am not fussy on pasta so I don't even miss
it. We have not heard from Nikkic for a few days, I wonder how
she is doing?
Anne.
nikkic 09-19-2002, 08:49 PM Hi everyone,
I've had a few days from hell and haven't been able to write. We have started to side our garage, just me and DH. What a job. I am not in the right shape for this, but he needs help and there is no one else.
Our car died, and we just got it back from the shop. My printer and computer have stopped communicating. I've contacted lexmark and did everything they said, no help. I've contacted Microsoft and did what they said and it didn't help. They said to contact Lexmark and Lexmark says to contact Microsoft. AAARRGG!!!
I did get my Gazelle the other day. I like it, but I will have to get use to it. My legs don't move right since my accident, but that's why I got it in the first place, to help with that problem. I was really suprised by how long I could do it. I can't take really big strides, but was able to do it for 8 min. the first time. Yay for me!
I am not sure what to do about my woe. I love ss'ing, but, I am now going backward. Instead of losing, I'm gaining. I don't know why either. I'm doing everything the same. I bought Dr. Atkins book today and think I might try that for awhile. It's stricter and I need that. I've cut out desserts, cut way down on my cream and cream cheese. I've been exercising more, in fact a lot more. Still, I am not losing and gaining a few pounds every now and then. So, that's why I think I'll do the Atkins diet. I did it a long time ago and it really worked quick for me. It is really simular to ss. I won't have to worry about food combining or when I drink fluids and I like that part a lot.
Has anyone heard of lite flour? Did I mention this before? I saw on the ss site before it went down that there is a site www.liteflour.com that should be up now or soon. They have developed a carb free flour. I haven't looked it up for a few days. I sure hope it's true, wouldn't that open a world of carb free food to us.
Well, got to go, talk to you all soon. Nikki
Jennifer 3FC 09-20-2002, 12:39 AM Oh my gosh, lite flour? European company. Hmm, it sounds fishy! They talk about a Dr Moron on the Founder page...
nikkic 09-20-2002, 09:41 AM Jennifer,
How funny! Even though it's a cruel joke. I thought when I read about this website that it had to be too good to be true. Well, I hadn't gone there and looked at anything yet. Went yesterday and read the different pages and wondered if it was written by a high school kid with a little knowledge of low carbs. So many misspelled words. Sorry about that you guys, I think I was misled.
Nikki:doh:
aleka 09-20-2002, 10:32 AM nikkic, I understand your frustration. Good luck with Atkins. A GF of mine has started Atkins and she lost 4 lb. in 4 days. I am leaning towards Sugar Busters. When I visited my Dr. she suggested Sugar Busters to me. I was SSzing at the time, and now that the food combining is wearing thin, I read the book, and I thought I would give it a try. You are doing so good on your Gazelle....keep it up! I know where you're coming from about helping DH with projects because there is nobody else around. We moved into our house 8 yrs. ago, and our first expected snow fall, which was Nov. we were outside that day in 30 deg. weather building snow shelters for our bushes. We saw the forecast at noon, then went outside and worked until after dark to get those suckers built. We often talk about that day!
nikkic 09-20-2002, 11:27 AM Hi everyone,
Aleka, I am really getting confused about what to do. I have now gone back to my weight I was a little over a week ago, down 14 lbs. I do know a few things are true. There is too much sugar in our diets. They put it into everything and eliminating it or cutting back as much as possible can only help us. I might not continue to ss for awhile, but I will always be grateful to her for opening my eyes to the amount of sugar the food industry tries to pour down us.
I have a Sugar Busters cookbook. They have a lot of good looking recipies in there.
I go to see my Dr. next week. I saw her 2 1/2 weeks ago and told her about my ss'ing. It's just a routine physical, which I've not had in years. It will be interesting to see my blood work.
Later, Nikki
aleka 09-20-2002, 12:11 PM I am in the same boat as you as to being confused. I do know that getting the sugar out of your diet is the way to go because of the results of my blood work. You said that you've started gaining weight back, are you losing size? The first time I SSized, I was not losing weight, but my clothes were looser, I was losing size instead. From what I've been reading about SB, it is the same concept as SSzing, in eliminating sugar out of your diet. The only difference I see is that you have portion control and there seems to be more of a variety. Maybe it's the portion control that I need to lose weight. Good luck with your Dr's appt., and let us know about your bloodwork.
Hi Anne D, & mauvaisroux
Aleka :queen:
ANNE D 09-20-2002, 05:06 PM Hi Everyone::wave:
I was at home today because we had an appointment to take
our son David to the doctor. He has put David on a 3rd medication. I hope and pray it helps.
Saturday is my weigh in day and we will see how it goes.
Nikkic: You must let me now how you find the Akins plan if
you try it.
So far so good for me, I try to take it one day at a time.
This plan has really helped my familly so far. My husband, son
and I are all following it together with varying degrees of
success. We have all lost weight and I am doing the best so
far with my 22 pound loss. I keep thinking of Peter Neuman
losing 145 pounds!!! wow, wow, wow I am lucky in so much as
I don't care for pasta, rice etc. so the diet has been pretty easy
for me so far. Feeling full is everything.
I will post my results if any Saturday.
Have a great evening ladies!!:dancer:
mauvaisroux 09-20-2002, 10:33 PM Hi everyone!
Aleka- good luck on your new plan! I crave toast once in a while too but I try to make it wholewheat or rye. Sometimes I find the food combining hard too but I am trying to stick with it.
Anne- a 22lb loss is great:cp: You are lucky your DH and son are willing to be on the same eating plan-that makes it so much easier! Hope the new medication helps your son.
Nikkic- I agree, it gets very confusing with all those different diets out there. I have to admit that I have checked out the Sugarbusters forum on this site and it looked very interesting as a WOE. I have to say that since I gave up the white flour products and white rice I do feel better. I am working on the caffeine and sugar aspect but I certainly read my food labels now! I can't believe how much hidden sugar there is in a lot of things that I never would have suspected!
Well I had a stressful week so I am off to sit on my couch with a good book and a glass of sherry. I am home alone so I am going to enjoy the peace and quiet:)
nikkic 09-20-2002, 10:55 PM Evening everybody!
Anne, I think your doing great and I'm so happy for you. It really helps when the whole family is supportive. My DH is, but he still drinks milk, eats bread and sugar frosted flakes.
Aleka, I think your right about the portion control thing. I also have given up desserts. Atkins is really strict the first 2 weeks. You can eat all the meat you want, but only 2 cups of salad veggies and 1 cup of lower carb veggies a day. If you want cream, it's 2-3 tbsp. There are a few other things I'm forgetting now. After the first 2 weeks, you start to slowly incorporate more carbs back into your diet. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make in a roundabout way, is I think this will get me back on track.
Mauvaisroux, I've given up everything-sugar, flour, caffiene, white rice. I have to say, even if I have gained back some weight, I feel better than I have in years and my skin is looking a lot better.
Well, talk to you all later. I really enjoy our little group. Nikki
ANNE D 09-21-2002, 07:06 AM Good Morning Everyone:
Another 3 pounds gone! I can't beleive it myself. I have
reached a mini goal that I had wanted to reach by the end of
September. Next Saturday my husband and I are going
to see The Who :cb: and I wanted my black jeans to fit. I
knew I would have to get my weight down to be able to get
back in to them and jep, they do up now:cp: I am very interested
in Atkins diet too. I am convinced low carb is the way to go.
Enjoy you sherry Mauvaisroux, I enjoy a wee bit of brandy on
Saturdays.
Nikkic I too enjoy our little group. We can talk about new plans
and how they work, this is a learning experience for each one
of us. No matter how we do it, we will all strive to do
our best and we will all succeed.:dancer:
Aleka, how is level two going?
Anne.
aleka 09-21-2002, 09:03 AM ANNE D, congratulations on losing another 3 lb. and fitting back into your black jeans:cloud9: :cb: :hat: If you keep going the way you have been, maybe by next Sat. these jeans may be falling off of you :df: I decided to make Monday the day I start doing the SB way of eating. We'll see how it goes. I will give myself a month on this WOE, and if I don't see any results, I will look into Atkins. I hope your son does well on this new medication. My thoughts will be with you.
mauvaixroux, I hope you enjoyed your sherry. I like to indulge in a glass or 2 of wine on the weekends. It is amazing how much sugar is in food, even on the nutrition label if it says 0 gm sugar, you look at the ingredients and sure enough there is some sort of sugar in there. I went to the grocery store the other day trying to find a ham steak that wasn't cured with sugar. I couldn't find a thing. I also can't find bread made without sugar, or hydroginated oils. So, I've been toying with the idea of buying a bread machine and making my own bread. The only thing stopping me is...do I want another small appliance on my already crowded counter top. When I first started SSzing, I didn't mind the food combining at all. Then I went off the diet, and since starting it for the 2nd time, I am finding the food combining very difficult to stick with.
nikkic, it sounds like you would definitely lose weight doing Atkins. Would you do the induction for 2 weeks then go back to Somersizing, or just continue to do Atkins? If you miss having desserts, how about just having sugar free jello, instead of the miracle fluff?
I really enjoy this little group, so I hope you don't mind me posting even though I will not be Somersizing.
Take care and enjoy your weekend. Aleka :queen:
nikkic 09-21-2002, 11:21 AM Good morning,
Anne, I am  green with envy, but so happy for you.
Aleka, your right about the fluff. I had to give it up. It's not that it was bad, but when you eat the whole bowl in 2 days, then it is. Atkins says not to eat nutrasweet. I know Suzanne does too. I've read that for some people, it can cause a stall. I don't know why. Dr. Schwarzbein says not to eat it too. I have been lurking over at Low Carb Friends trying to find out why Atkins says no nutrasweet. I think it's because of the chemical, that it is bad for your body and he is really into natural stuff. I know somewhere there has to be a jello made with Splenda, but I haven't seen it yet.
Desserts and overeating are probably why I've stalled and then started to gain. I know ss works, but I have to get stricted for awhile. If I can get my brain into that way of thinking
then I can go back to ss and keep myself under control. The first 2 weeks of Atkins kind of remind me of boot camp, pretty basic.
I can't find ham steak either, Aleka. For lunchmeat, I buy the Walmart brand of baked ham. Dextrose is one of the ingredients, but the carb count is 0, so it must be a small amount.
I have a bread maker, in fact I have alot of small appliances. I had to start keeping them in the computer room, my kitchen is really tiny. I must be addicted to shopping too. If you really miss bread, I'd try it in the oven first. If you find you like it, then I'd buy the bread machine. My bread machine sits there and collects dust. I don't know what bread would be like. I know the muffins and other things I've tried to make with splenda and no eggs have really sucked so far. Even when I have a recipe that everyone raves about, I don't like it. Well, on sugarbusters, you can probably have eggs in your bread.
I was hoping we could all stay together, even if we aren't all eating the same way. I've really enjoyed the support from all of you.
I'm off to the farmers market. Now that fall is here, it won't be long before that's a memory.
Take care, Nikki
mauvaisroux 09-22-2002, 09:30 PM Hello everyone!
I enjoy our group too. Why don't we come up with another name for our threads since we all seem to be doing different plans?
Any suggestions?
I was just thinking the same thing about bread and how I would eventually have to make my own:lol: I too have a bread maker which I use to use a lot but somehow it ended up in the back of the kitchen cupboards with a bunch of stuff piled on it which makes it hard to get to so I don't bother with it anymore. I plan on rescuing the bread maker from oblivion and start using it along with the blender, juicer and crockpot that are hiding with it:rolleyes:
Congrats on those 3lbs Anne:dancer:
Nikkic-I just went to the farmers market today too and loaded up on cauliflower, broccoli, green beans and yellow beans. I spent the rest of the afternoon blanching and freezing them in dinner for two sized portions so I would have them through the winter. I hate the taste of canned vegetables now so I figured this would be a good alternative since produce is so expensive up here in the winter.
Aleka, good luck with the sugar busters it looks like a pretty good plan, at least their is a forum you can get ideas and tips form on this site:) I am sticking with SS for now as hubby is actually getting into it now too. I am starting my exercise plan this week too, so that may help.
Hope you all have a good week!
nikkic 09-22-2002, 11:41 PM Hi everyone,
I am not a creative person, so I wouldn't know what to call it. I have always had a hard time naming things. I named my #1 dd from a character on Captain Kangaroo and #2 after a neighbor we had once. It was all I could think of at the time. Later, the kids had the job of naming our animals. I called my dog midnight, just because that was when I went to work.:dz:
Well, I never did make it to the farmers market. I spent too much time and money at Walmart. I've been painting the new siding we put up today.
I'm doing a combo of Atkins/ss'ing. I have never felt so good. I haven't had this much energy since I was in my 20's. The scale is not moving yet, but I bought those keto sticks and it says I am in ketosis. Dr. Atkins says that is a sign that you are burning fat for fuel and so losing weight.
Bye, Nikki
aleka 09-23-2002, 09:23 AM I hope everyone had a good weekend. Today is the first day of fall, but it still feels like summer here. It's been in the low 80's and humid.:?:
nikki and mauvaisroux, since you both have bread machines, and I have no clue as to what to buy, I wanted to ask you some questions. What type is better, the 1 lb. loaf size or the 2 lb. loaf size? What features should be on it? Also, when it comes to any type of baking, I just don't have the patience for it, so I was wondering if the bread machines will knead the dough?
mauvaisroux, Sugar Busters is a lot like SSzing, the only difference is that you can eat more of a variety of foods, it's lower in fat, and has portion control. So, what I'm doing is using my old WW point booklet and using the portion sizes in that as a guideline.
nikkic, good luck with your Atkins and SSzing. Is it difficult to combine the 2? I just heard over the weekend that the WalMart near my house is shooting for a Nov. 1st opening date, and they've started stocking their shelves today.:cb: :dancer:
Hi ANN D, hope you are doing well.
Have a great day everyone Aleka :queen:
nikkic 09-23-2002, 10:09 AM Morning everyone,
I just lost my response, by hitting the wrong key. Boy I hate when that happens.
Aleka, I would buy the 2 lber. You can always make smaller loaves or bigger loaves that way. The machine does everything for you, including kneading. You just have to put in the ingredients. Mine is an older one. The loaf stands up. Now they have some that the loaf is more like a regular loaf. It doesn't matter in the end, when I cut mine, it still looks good and tastes good.
The reason I said I was combining Atkins and SS is because I'm still doing ss, but a stricter form. I drink Atkins shakes for breakfast. I still food combine. It was an automatic thing. At first I didn't realize it, then I found it was what I wanted to do anyway. I've cut out desserts, cream sauces and decreased my fat a lot. Atkins has divided the veggies into 2 lists. Some of the legal ones on ss'ing are still legal on Atkins, you just have to limit your intake because they are higher carb. I've been so busy with this gargage project, I have'nt had time for big productions in the kitchen. Mainly broiled meat, one or two veggies with butter and that's it. Lunch has been a few leftovers or cheese, meat and a fresh veggie. It's probably more Atkins than anything, but I'm not counting carbs, because I haven't had the time or patients for that.
I still exercise in the morning. I'm up to 12 min. on the Gazelle. My daughter liked it so much, she ordered one too. I sure hope she uses it, she weighs almost as much as I do, but she's shorter. I hate to see girls in their early 20's so over weight. I've never pressured her about it and always try to be suppportive when she diets. Her medication also decreases her metabolism and she has to take thyroid replacement, so that doesn't help. Still, if she decreases her calorie intake (that's the way she wants to diet) and starts to do any kind of exercise, it has to help.
It's been a lot cooler here the last few days. Lows in the upper 40's/50's highs in the low 70's and windy. Sure fall like. Snowballs are coming!
Later, Nikki
ANNE D 09-23-2002, 01:48 PM Hi Everyone:
Beautiful day for the first day of fall in Toronto. Very cool this
morning. You gotta love it after the summer we had to endure.
Does anyone know if V-8 juice is allowed on a low carb regime?
I was thinking probably not because of the carrot juice in it.
I use to love to drink V-8 with cayenne pepper in it. Very hot
and spicy.
I am doing good with my gazelle. I watch T.V. while I am doing
my work out.
Aside from my jello and whipped cream twice a week I don't
eat dessert either. My problem is I want all of it.
I still don't understand the issue with caffeine. When I lost
my 100 pds at WW I used to drink all kinds of diet pepsi and
tea.
Have a great day everyone even if it is Monday!!
Anne.
nikkic 09-23-2002, 05:46 PM HI,
I don't understand the caffiene thing either. Something about it causes the body to release insulin. I didn't have any problem cutting it out, the only caffiene I drank was tea. Decaf tastes the same to me. I was reading over at low carb friends that decaf tea has caffiene in it. They said, you have to get caffiene free tea instead. Well, hold on now. I am not giving up my decaf iced tea. I looked on the Luzianne box and it doesn't say it has caffiene in it, just that it's decaffienated naturally.
Also, what do you all think about nurtrasweet? I know everyone says you shouldn't eat it, because it is not good for the body. Plus a lot of people say it causes an insulin reaction. Still, I want sugar free jello. Is there any (jello) with splenda?
I've noticed today, that my shirt is fitting differently. I look slimer. I wish I'd taken measurements. Weight is still 260, but I haven't fluctuated in the last few days like I was. It helps not seeing the scale move up.
Nikki
aleka 09-23-2002, 06:21 PM I don't understand about the caffiene thing either. Some articles I've read say that caffiene is a dieters friend, as it raises your metabolism, and other's say give it up. From what I understand, caffiene in some people can make them hungry, so they'll eat more. I find that regular coffee fills me up. I don't know who or what to believe.
About the jello, I still eat it as it gives me something to snack on at night that's low calorie. I did see on the Suzanne's website, somebody mentioned "Jolly Roger" brand jello that is made with Splenda. I honestly don't know where they sell it. The thread was about WalMart, but I don't know if that's where you'll find it. I looked in a super WalMart store once when we out and about, but they didn't carry it.
Have a great evening everyone
nikkic 09-23-2002, 09:39 PM Hi,
I searched the web for Jolly Rodger gelatin and that produced some interesting stuff, but nothing to do with gelatin. I then looked up gelatin. I read some aweful things about the source of gelatin, don't read it if you want to keep eating it. I looked up splenda and also knox gelatin, not too helpful. Looked under gelatin with splenda and found a really good looking website. They have a hugh amount of low carb food you can buy. It is all ok for Atkins, but you'd have to look around for legal ss'ing stuff. They list all of the ingredients for their products and it looks like the only sweetner is splenda. They didn't have a jello, but they had a gelatin recipe, you use knox gelatin and davinci's syrup, here's the recipe- http://www.lowcarbtreats.com/low-carb-splenda-jello.html/ They sell low carb breads, but they aren't legal for ss'ing. The ketcups are a lot cheaper than Suzannes.
Aleka, I was reading about caffiene today. It looks like it is an individual thing. It has never had any effect on my losing weight. I just gave it up because I want to sleep better at night.
Later, Nikki
That's funny, when I typed it, the url had carb-splenda-jello. But when the post comes up, it says ca...nda Well, if you want to see the recipe, after the com type in /low-carb-splenda etc.
If you want to go to the home page it's http://www.synergydiet.com/index.html
aleka 09-24-2002, 06:39 AM We are finally getting cooler weather. Yesterday was our transisition day. It had been in the 80's and very humid. It's supposed to be in the 70's the rest of the week.
I almost forgot. I picked up this months issue of WW magazine, and there was an add in there for Walden Farms products. They have ketchup, salad dressing, chocolate syrup, & I believe maple syrup that has no calories, no sugar, and no carbs. I don't know if they sell these in the store. Their website is www.waldenfarms.com
ANNE D, I don't know about the V-8 juice. What are the list of ingredients on the label? Maybe if you went to Suzanne's website to the FAQ's maybe you can find out. I was in it the other day and the only thing that is down is the discussion board. That's great you are doing so well on your Gazelle.:cp:
nikkic, thank you for the info on the bread machine. I'm trying to get away from the store bought bread, because I'm having a hard time finding some reasonable priced bread without any sugar, or the hydrogenated (sp?) oils. I did see a bread machine in Target that I liked, but I'll also look in WalMart to compare machines and prices. I wish I knew where to find the Jolly Roger gelatin. I also tried the website but found nothing. As far as caffiene goes, I really haven't given it up entirely. I need my morning wakeup, but if I have coffee later in the day it's usually decaf.
Hi mauvaisroux, hope you are doing well.
Have a great day everyone. Aleka :queen:
ANNE D 09-24-2002, 06:00 PM Hi Everyone!
A real hectic day at work. I work in the Finance department
and month end is always crazy.
Our weather continues to be just gorgeous!!
On the subject of caffeine, to be honest with you I still drink
real coffee each morning:lol: so far so good, I don't beleive it
has affected my weight loss efforts yet at this point so I'm
going to go right on with my am coffee fix:lol:
I wish the Suzanne board would go back up. I have all the books
but I have not yet read any of them other than to breeze through
them. I hear there is a new one in the works too!! I better read
the ones I bought before spending any more cash!
I would like to read one of Dr. Atkins books too.
Nikkic does Dr. Atkins say anything about caffeine? As far as
I am concerned Dr. Atkins and Dr. Stillman were the pioneers of
low carb eating.
Aleka: Isn't the fall weather great!! I am glad to hear that so
cooler weather is finally making its way to you, what a summer!
Anne.
aleka 09-25-2002, 08:24 AM Well, yesterday I joined WW, which I have decided to do low carb. I need the accountability to actually lose weight. If I know I have to face a scale each week, then I know I will really stick to something. She said that just as long as we stay within our point range that we can do this woe any way we want. It was funny, I never realized how much SSzing has been engrained (sp?) in my mind. When they mentioned potatoes, no fat salad dressings, no fat mayo, I just about cringed. Maybe I should get up there and lecture in what is good nutrition:s:
ANNE D, I'm glad that you are still having good weather. Our's is great too. The sun is warm but the air is crisp and cool. Just how I like it after we get through summer. I love the hot weather, but have had it by the end of Aug. If you go into www.ivillage.com and click onto diets, you will go into their page on Diets A - Z. You click onto Atkins diet and they will give you a synopsis (sp?) of the diet, and what people think about the diet. It's really good if you are thinking about a plan and want to find out if it's right for you or not. Hope you have a less stressful day at work today. I used to be a keypunch/computer operator at a lumber store quite a few years ago, and at the end of the month all the statements had to be sent out and that was a BIG job. :headache: So, I can relate to your end of month stress.
Hi mauvaisroux, and nikkic
Take care and have a great day everyone. Aleka :queen:
nikkic 09-25-2002, 11:19 AM HI everyone,
Aleka, I completely understand. You have to do what you think is going to help you and motivate you. It is funny how much ss'ing has become such a wol for me too. I keep trying to do Atkins, but I'm still food combining too.
Beautiful fall weather. I am so glad. We are still working on the garage everyday. DH is pretty disgusted with the new door he put in. It was perfectly plumb and now a week later, it isn't. The cement floor is cracked and we had a big rain. That moved the floor up a little bit, so now the door is out of plumb and won't shut. That is the way it is with old houses and old garages. We sure can't afford to pour a new floor. I don't know what we'll do about that. I usually keep that door open a few inches anyway, for the cats to go in and out of the garage.
I am getting definition in my arms, at least my forearms. I haven't seen this for a long time. I am really feeling so much stronger. When we first started on the garage, I could barely stay out there all day. Now I feel like I could keep going, even when we are finished for the day.
I go to see my orthopedic Dr. today. It's a routine visit, so he can make some more money, I think. I know I'm doing better than I was the last time I saw him.
Later, Nikki
PS- Anne, Atkins says no caffiene too. I've read on Low Carb Friends that alot of people still drink caffiene and they say it hasn't affected their weight loss. Atkins is really more of a natural kind of woe than you would think. I have always wondered how caffiene could really cause an insulin reaction. It's a chemical process that I don't think adds up, for some reason. I can't tell you why. I wish someone would say this happens in your body and that is why insulin is released. Atkins is pretty specific about somethings, but not this. I think it is definately moderation in all things and you have to do what you think is the best thing for you at the time.
ANNE D 09-25-2002, 08:53 PM Hi Everyone:
Aleka, WW certainly helped me lose my 100 pounds a few years
back. Their program just gets better and better with the new
point system. I like that because of the freedom choice.
Nikkic, doesn't it feel great to feel stronger. I use to feel so
run down:yawn: I think all the protein is energizing me! I walk
along with a real spring in my step now, I also feel alot more
rested in the morning.
Does Dr. Atkins put limits on how much protein you can eat
in a day? Does he allow cream too? I always wonder about
the cream, it just seems so fattening!!
Gee, we haven't heard from mauvaisroux lately, I hope she
is okay.
Aleka, do you find you feel full in your point range? I have a
copy of the program and you can really eat quite a bit.
Have a great evening Ladies.
Anne.
nasus40 09-25-2002, 10:00 PM Nikk i believe the reasoon for the no caffiene is that the caffiene actually is a diuretic casing your cells to rease water dausing dehydration in the cells. so some thooughts is if you drink coffee you do not count it as an intake
nikkic 09-25-2002, 10:44 PM Hi everyone,
Sue, I thought you'd reply to that question. I was wondering why it is said that it (caffiene) causes an insulin response. If there is a insulin response, then you would figure there would be corresponding weight gain. Why would a diuretic cause an insulin response?
Actually, I've seen some ideas and studies being done lately that say that all fluids should count, including the fluids trapped between vegetable cells. This is a new research study being done.
Well, it really isn't a big concern of mine. I don't drink too much caffiene anymore. Although, tonight I did have caffienated tea at a restaurant. In fact, I went way off the diet. We went up to see my Dr. and after, we always go to a Chinese restaurant that has the best food. I ate jasmine rice, cellophane noodles and lord only knows what was in some of those dishes. It was really good, but it's the first illegal meal I've had in months.
Tomarrow I go for my physical. I'm having blood work and all. Wish I hadn't cheated tonight right before that.
Anne, Atkins limits the amount of carbs. There are 4 different stages. The first is called induction. You can have up to 20 carbs a day and 2-3 tbsp. of cream. Then after 2 weeks, you go on. Or you can stay on the induction for as long as you want. If you want to read up on it, go to www.atikinscenter.com it's all explained pretty well there, you probably don't even really need the book.
Talk to you all tomorrow, Nikki
aleka 09-26-2002, 08:15 AM nikkic, the Chinese food sounds delicious, one of my favorites. Good luck with your physical. Sorry about all the trouble with your garage. Usually from the frost in the winter, our garage floor has a big crack in it, but once the frost leaves it goes back down. That's great you are feeling stronger. It's a wonderful feeling when you know you can keep on going.
ANNE D, it's amazing how energized you feel when you low carb.
Yes, I feel just satisfied on my point range. For lunch I went out with a friend, who is on Atkins, and both of us had a bacon cheeseburger/no bun, and I had a salad with it. That stayed with me all afternoon. Then for dinner I had a bowl of soup, then some sugar free pudding. I was a little hungry when I went to bed, but nothing major. I was able to "bank" 3 pts.
Yesterday a GF & I saw The Banger Sisters. It was a HOOT!!!! We really enjoyed it.
Take care and have a great day. Aleka :queen:
ANNE D 09-26-2002, 07:21 PM Good evening All:
Well, we made it to Thursday:cp:
Glad to hear you had a great time at the Banger Sisters Aleka!
My Who concert is on Saturday and I could just bust with
excitement! I have been listening to all my Who CDs at
my work station.:cb: Sometimes I'm tempted to start singing
out loud but I have to remember where I am!! Can you imagine
 if she heard me!!
Thanks for the link Nikkic, I was printing all kinds of stuff at
my lunch hour today. It is similar to somersizing in a great many
ways. I like the fact that Dr Atkins is a cardiologist. It makes me
feel more confident about my WOE.
Tonight I had a great shepard's pie with cauliflower substituting
for the mashed potatoes, just loved it.
Talk to you all later!!
Anne.
nikkic 09-26-2002, 08:57 PM Hi everyone,
Mauvaisroux, where are you keeping yourself?
Aleka, I'm glad you let us know about the movie. I thought it would be good, can't wait to see it. I've always loved Goldie and Susan. They make a good pair. We never go to movies. The last time we went, we saw the Titanic. We have a satellite dish and just wait till they come to ppv and rent them then. Not as romantic, but we are home bodies.
Anne, glad you liked the link. I suppose you saw the How to do Atikins and then went to Atkins 101. I like that he's a Dr. and also that he backs up what he says with facts and studies. There was a recent article in the NY Times talking about how it is wrong to do Atkins and to go low fat to lose weight. I read that and was confused. Then I picked up Dr. Atkins book and he answered all of the things the article was talking about. I guess he's been answering the same questions and slams for a long time.
Had blood work done today. She said she'd let me know if there was something wrong. I go back to see her in a month and she says we'll discuss it in detail then. I will be really interested to find out what it says. I go back in a month to have skin tags removed. That is an ugly side to fat that I wasn't aware of when I was thin. Hopefully, I won't have to see them develop again.
Also, she says I've lost 4 lbs. in the last 3 weeks since I saw her last, so that was good. It's always good seeing the scale go down.
I got a new coat today. Ordered it from Blair. I usually wear a 3x, but I ordered a 2x, being optomistic. It is kind of big and I think I'll send it back for a 1x. The shoulders and arms are really big. I haven't had a problem like this for awhile. I can practically wrap it from side to side.
Bye for now, Nikki
aleka 09-27-2002, 08:34 AM We are getting some rain from Isadore, but not as much as they thought we would.:(
ANNE D, have a great time at the concert. I love the Who. Glad you made it through Thurs. Now it's Friday and the start of the weekend.
nikkic, DH & I also are homebodies, and also order movies on ppv. If you haven't seen Snow Dogs on ppv I highly recommend it. My DH & I were laughing soooooo hard we actually scared our dog:lol: It's been so long since DH & I went to a movie, I have entirely forgotton what we saw. Congratulations on losing those 4 lb. since your last Dr. visit :cb: :cp: It must've made you feel really good to send the coat back for a smaller size!! WAHOO!!!
We had to buy a new computer, and DH will be setting it up today. This should be fun! Have a great weekend everybody.
mauvaisroux, where are you? I hope everything is ok with you.
Aleka :queen:
nikkic 09-27-2002, 09:38 AM Morning everyone,
It's raining here. I'm glad as I was going to paint today. I feel like a kid that gets to stay home from school for a snow day.
We'll have to watch Snow Dogs, Aleka. I like comedies. DH likes them too, but he's more of an action/adventure type. We both like murder mysteries.
I went to the ss'ing site, because they are suppose to be up today. Now it won't be til next week. I read their new rules. It looks stricter and it sure won't be the same. I'm glad we have this place to speak freely. Obviously, you won't be able to do that there. I think there are going to be some upset ladies.
Aleka, I found setting up my new computer wasn't too bad. Learning all about what was inside was hard and I'm still trying to figure out a lot of stuff. I know they have classes at the Gateway store, but it's over an hour away. I bought some on line classes when I bought this and they are very confusing and not written for a beginner. Since I've had it awhile, maybe I should revisit them, I might know what their talking about. Anyway, they are really dull.
Well, I'm going to go exercise. After, I don't know. Have a good day everyone, Nikki
mauvaisroux 09-28-2002, 12:27 AM Hi everyone:wave:
I have been really busy at work and too exhausted to post. By the time I get home I just want to eat and go to bed.
I hope you are all doing well, I still have to read your posts from the past few days but I will have to catch up on the weekend.
I am going to bellydance class tomorrow, Yay! :cb:
Have a great weekend and I will talk to you all soon!
Mauvais
ANNE D 09-28-2002, 06:58 AM Good Morning Everyone!!
Tonight's the big night I go to my concert:cb: I hope my
husband and I aren't the only two "oldies" there. I feel
a little akward being 45 though I could pass for being somewhat
younger than that. My husband turns 50 tomorrow:hb: It
cracks me up to think of us in the audience listening to songs
about "teenage wasteland" and "my generation" at our ages.
 My husband says "don't worry about it, the band is older
than you"
I stayed the same this week, but I am ok with that. I don't
expect to lose every week! I am a little worried because this is
my dangerous time of year. In a couple of weeks it is our
Thanksgiving and usually I go on an eating binge that lasts
till the new year:fr:
Talk to you on Sunday!
Anne.
nikkic 09-28-2002, 11:32 AM Hi,
Mauvaisroux, belly dancing, how exciting. this would be me belly dancing:^: Glad your still around.
Anne, I hope you have a really good time at the concert. I want details when you get back on line.
I know what you mean about the dangers of holidays. I've already warned everyone there will be no dressing this year, unless I can come up with something that I can eat as an alternative. Dressing is my downfall. I will have potatoes, I can pass on them now. I have a lot of dessert recipes for legal pies and of course cheesecake. Since I haven't had any for awhile, it will indeed be a treat. I have been eating the Atkins bars every night. They are like candy bars, but not as good. Low in carbs though. I am just a junk food junky. I'm going to cut back on them to 2 x's a week. The endulge bars are really the best. Like little chocolate bars.
Later, Nikki
aleka 09-28-2002, 06:02 PM mauvaisroux, it's great hearing from you. Wow!!! Belly dancing..that sounds like a lot of fun:dancer: Let us know how you like it.
ANNE D, my DH birthday is tomorrow too!!! 45 isn't that old. Have a good time at your concert tonight.
nikkic, there is a terrific recipe for dressing in Suzanne's first diet book, I believe, where you saute mushrooms, onions, and turkey sausage. A friend of mine made some for herself and sent some over to me, and it was delicious. Speaking of SSzing, I went into her website to see the rules for posting. There are quite a few. I wonder how many people will be upset.
Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend. Aleka :queen:
nikkic 09-29-2002, 01:33 PM HI!
I seem to have lost 3 lbs. Yeah !! I never thought that scale was going to move again. I knew I was in ketosis, since I bought those sticks to test my urine. I knew my clothes were fitting better and getting lose. And I know that muscle weighs more than fat, yadayadayada. It doesn't mean anything if the scale doesn't start moving.
I'm making a big pot of chicken and noodles today. I'm not eating it, but #2 DD is moving from a duplex into a ratty old house and I told her I'd make her favorite dinner for her and her boyfriend. I've got 2 chickens in there and making stock right now. I saved out the breasts and I'll grill one up for me later. I'm also cooking up 10 lbs. of mashed potatoes. You'd think I was feeding an army. But between DH, DD # 1 & 2 and the bf, they'll eat it all in a couple of days. :chicken:
DH's brother came over yesterday and helped put up siding on the back of the garage. I was not looking forward to that, up and down ladders. I don't think I could. I have an aweful time walking up and down stairs. He's coming back on Monday to help finish it. Then just the painting needs done. Dh has four days off this week, so we should get it done. None too soon.
Aleka, I made that dressing once and really didn't like it. However, I couldn't find the right sausage, so I used brats. It was too aweful to put in words. Finding the right ingredients is so hard. I found a recipe on the ss site, before it closed for a mock corn bread dressing. You make up mock corn bread using protein powder then dressing from that. Well, it was an idea, not a recipe, so I have to experiment and see how it turns out.
Anne, how was the concert? I hope you had a great time and felt like a teenager again.
Bye for now, Nikki
ANNE D 09-30-2002, 05:22 AM Good Morning Everyone::wave:
The Who were fantastic! We were the last stop on their North
American tour. The crowd just went nuts when they went into
numbers like Baba O'Reilly and won't get fooled again. There
were all ages from teenagers right up to people sixty or so years
old so we fit right in. It was a sold out venue. Pretty amazing
when you think Who has been around for about 39 years!:cp:
I will tell you what shocked me was the people in the crowd
smoking grass. I can't beleive security didn't try to put a stop
to it.
Nikkic, three pounds! Way to go.:cb:  It is always great
to see that scale move.
Well, time to get back to reality and get ready for work!
Have a great day all!
Anne.
aleka 09-30-2002, 07:27 AM It's Mon. morning and I hope you all enjoyed your weekend.
Nikkic, congratulations on the weight loss:flow2: :dancer: :cp: You just needed something to jump start it again. I buy Italian Turkey Sausage at the grocery store, it's in where the fresh sausage is. they have hot and sweet.
ANNE D, I am so glad you had such a good time at the concert. It sounds like it was a lot of fun.
mauvaisroux, how was the belly dancing? Did you have fun?
My weigh in is tomorrow. Wish me luck!
Have a great day Aleka
nikkic 09-30-2002, 09:55 AM Goodmorning,
Anne, smoking:smoking: grass at a Who concert, I didn't know that was still done. Around here, you can't even smoke a cigarette. Sounds like a great time. I wish we could have gone.
Aleka, the grocery stores around here are kind of limited as far as selection goes. I tried to get some celery root awhile back and I never got it. I went to a different town, 45 min away. Ordered it over the phone, went over in 2 weeks to get it and they hadn't ordered it. But they said it would be in in one week. So I went back in 1 week, they didn't know anything about it. I called their produce manager the next day and he said he'd have it in 2 weeks. I just gave up. I'll have to grow my own next year.
Today, it's suppose to get up to 90 degrees here. We are going to work on the garage all day for the next 4 days (as long as there's no rain) to get it done. I am not looking forward to the heat.
Have a good day, Nikki
mauvaisroux 09-30-2002, 11:31 PM Hi everyone!
Bellydance class was fun! I ran into a friend there so we were hanging out a bit after class too. Felt good to dance again, I had been taking classes for a while but stopped over the summer. I really missed it and it was great to get back into it.
Congratulations on the 3 lb loss Nikkic! :cb:
Anne- sounds like you had a great time at the concert. I love Baba O'reilly!
Aleka-good luck with your weigh in!:df:
:dancer: I now fit into a skirt that I haven't been able to wear for 3 years but it was to beautiful to throw out so I kept it:lol:
nikkic 10-01-2002, 09:40 AM Hi everyone, Jennifer started a new thread for us. I'll meet you over there, Nikki
