Good morning everybody. I went and read the post that DEELITE submitted on the the 30's board about drinking water, it's very good. I showed my DH and he said if he drank that much water he would never get any work done. :D I told him the running back and forth to the bathroom is called "The Weight Watcher's Waltz". :)
I'm going to go and walk on my treadmill now and this afternoon TRUDY and & I will work on the tree skirts. HI DEE haven't seen you around here lately, how are you? I hope you have good day and see you at WW tomorrow.
(((DEE)))
"See" you all later today. :)

Good Morning Ladies :) :) :) :)
I thought I would copy and paste the water article I posted on the thirties for you gals. I got it from Dotti's site. It is really intresting....so drink your water!

How 8 Glasses a Day Keeps Fat Away
Incredible as it may seem, water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off. Although most of us take it for granted, water may be the only true "magic potion" for permanent weight loss!

Water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits. Here's why: The kidneys can't function properly without enough water. When the kidneys don't work to capacity, some of their load is dumped onto the liver. One of the liver's primary functions is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body. If the liver has to do some of the kidney's work, it can't operate at full throttle. As a result, it metabolizes less fat, more fat remains stored in the body, and weight loss stops. Drinking enough water is the best treatment for fluid retention. When the body gets less water, it perceives this as a threat to survival and begins to hold on to every drop. Water is stored in extra cellular spaces (outside the cells). This shows up as swollen feet, legs and hands. Diuretics offer a temporary solution at best. They force out stored water along with some essential nutrients. Again, the body perceives a threat and will replace the lost water at the first opportunity. Thus, the condition quickly returns. The best way to overcome the problem of water retention is to give the body what it needs…PLENTY OF WATER. Only then will the stored water be released. If you have a constant problem with water retention, excess salt may be to blame. Your body will tolerate sodium only in a certain concentration. The more salt you eat, the more water your system retains to dilute it. But getting rid of un-needed salt is easy - just drink more water. As it's forced through the kidneys, it takes away excess sodium. The overweight person needs more water than the thin one! Larger people have larger metabolic loads. Since we know that water is the key to fat metabolism, it follows that the overweight person needs more water. Water helps maintain proper muscle tone by giving muscles their natural ability to contract and by preventing dehydration. It also helps to prevent the sagging skin that usually follows weight loss - shrinking cells are buoyed by water, which plumps the skin and leaves it clear, healthy, and resilient. Water helps rid the body of waste. During weight loss, he body has a lot more waste to get rid of - all the metabolized fat must be shed. Again, adequate water helps flush out the waste. Water can help relieve constipation. When the body gets too little water, it siphons what it needs from internal sources. The colon is one primary source. Result? Constipation. But, when a person gets enough water, normal bowel functions returns. So far, we've discovered some remarkable truths about water and weight loss:

The body will not function properly without enough water and can't metabolize stored fat efficiently.

Retained water shows up as excess weight.

To get rid of excess water you must drink more water.

Drinking water is essential to weight loss. How much water is enough??

On the average, a person should drink eight 8-ounce glasses every day. That's about 2 quarts. However, the overweight person needs one additional glass for every 25 pounds of excess weight. The amount you drink also should be increased if you exercise briskly or if the weather is hot and dry. Water should preferably be cold - it's absorbed into the system more quickly than warm water. And some evidence suggests that drinking cold water can actually help burn calories. When the body gets the water it needs to function optimally, its fluids are perfectly balanced. Once this happens you have reached the "breakthrough point". What does this mean?

Endocrine-gland function improves.

Fluid retention is alleviated as stored water is lost.

More fat is used as fuel because the liver is free to metabolize stored fat.

Natural thirst returns.

There is loss of hunger almost overnight.

If you stop drinking enough water, your body fluids will be thrown out of balance again, and you may experience fluid retention, unexplained weight gain and loss of thirst. To remedy the situation you'll have to go back and force another "breakthrough".

Here is a joke for you allEnjoy: :D
BROKEN HEART

Mildred was a 93 year old woman who
was particularly despondent over the
recent death of her husband Earl. She
decided that she would just kill herself
and join him in death.

Thinking that it would be best to get it
over with quickly, she took out Earl's old
army pistol and made the decision to
shoot herself in the heart since it was
already so badly broken in the first place.

Not wanting to miss the vital organ and
become a vegetable and burden to
someone, she called her doctor to inquire
as to just exactly where the heart would be.

"On a woman," the doctor said, "your heart
would be just below your left breast."

Later that night, Mildred was admitted to the
hospital with a gunshot wound to her knee.

I have been gone a few days and look what you have done! I am left out of the loop for a tree skirt! When you are on your way to Gerri's, just stop along the way and see me in Oklahoma. I don't have a Texas Mickey for you, but I think I can scare up an some Oklahoma barbecue. You know we could make this a progressive party with a different course at each destination.

Karen - that advice about the car trunk for Halloween treats is just a little late for me. I have had 2 nights now binging on chocolate. Even had to buy more candy for the little goblins. I am doing so badly. I have to get back in the groove! I don't even know why I am having so much trouble all of a sudden.

Last Friday went to OKC for "The Affair of the Heart" which is a big craft fair. There were 7 buildings of crafts and we just made it through 4. I have never been so tired! But I did get some neat Christmas presents. Saw some quilted Christmas tree skirts for sale--didn't buy one because I know Slavika and Trudy are making me one now, even as I speak.

So far, I am having an on program day.

Hi Everyone. Hope you are all having a good day OP. I have really been trying this week, hope it pays off tomorrow when I get on the WW scale.
Glenda..this is the 1st year ever that I didn't open up the treats and have to replace them. Don't beat yourself up over it, just put it behind you and start again. We have all been there and done that.
..About the Tree Skirts ~ We were talking about how we could surprise all of you by making tree skirts for everybody. But at the rate we are going, we would have to deliver them to your Nursing Homes in about 20 years. I'm not even sure we will have one for Christmas! They would go a lot faster if Slavika didn't cut off the points of the fabric pieces  LOL Had to make a stop at the Fabric Store on the way home tonight. Hubby asked how much this project is going to end up costing. I told him that it is waaaay cheaper than if I bought one. ;) So far he is buying it.
Dee.. :D Good joke! The water information was really excellent. Are we going to be seeing you tomorrow?

If the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, you can bet the water bill is higher.

HI EVERYBODY Ok, SOMEONE stacked the fabric to cut out 8 identical patches for the tree skirt and inadvertently cut the points off 5 of the 8 pieces. That's all I'm going to say on this matter. LOL :D
Ok, I'll just say one more thing, there was only two of us working on the tree skirt. Ok,I'll just say one more thing, it was
TRUDY'S Christmas Tree Skirt. LOL
These Christmas Tree Skirts may soon be worth a great deal of money~~~~~~I'm talking big bucks. I should rephrase that. A lot of money has been SPENT on the tree skirts.
GLENDA Oklahoma Barbecue sounds good to me. TRUDY is right, the skirts should be done in about 20 yrs. :D Can you all wait? ?
My DIL was away teaching her dance class and my son was home with the children. He called just as DH and I were getting ready to have our dinner. He was carving pumpkins with the children and sliced through the web skin between his thumb and fore finger and could we come right over. I stayed with the children and DH drove him to the hospital.
Well that was three hours ago, I'm home now but he is still waiting for a doctor to stitch it up. OY VEY.
I guess tomorrow night we have the little munchkins coming to our doors. My grandchildren are very excited about going trick or treating.
I'll say good night now.

I will wait for my tree skirt. Sounds like you two are having fun making them! I will have to think of something good for you when you deliver mine. Course by then I wont beable to move very well. 20 years is a long time! ;)

Glenda: Yep Trudy is right. Go on and just start over. Forget about it and move on!

:) Well my Son, the Master Pumpkin Carver, required three stitches. His carving days are over for this Halloween. :D
I told him not to play with knives anymore.
LOL. LILY I think we will still be walking to Texas in 20 years. We'll probably still be going to WW every Tuesday like we are today. I wonder if I will lose that 1# today. I weighed myself on my scale and the answer was NO .
Talk to you all later. Have a great OP day.

Hello Ladies
I hope that everyone is well today. Ouch that cut of your son Slavika sounds painful.
I was at the Dr. yesterday. Not to good of news. I will still need to go through more testing for my heart. No miricles happened. :(I thought about telling the Dr that everything was alright....I am tired of all this. I have had problems since Feb this year. Our canadian medical system moves a lot slower than US medical system.

  [b]HAS ANYONE HEARD ABOUT THE NEW CHANGES TO WW PROGRAM?

The word is out that it will be about putting the puzzle back together. No more o points for carrots onions or artichoke. :(The maximum count for fiber will be four grams.
There seems to be a lot of unhappy people over at Dottie's. Change...most of us don't like it! I also heard that it is more tailored to the individual needs. If anyone else has heard about some changes can you post it. Thanks!!!

Hi Dee, on 3FC under WW Food & Point Issues they are talking about the changes to the WW plan. Trudy pointed it out to me last night. Here's what I think (like I'm sure EVERYBODY wants to know) :D Firstly, this thing with fiber. If something has 250 calories in it I guess it doen't matter how much fiber is in it ~~~~~250 calories is still 250 calories. Probably people were not experiencing the same weight losses they had when the 123 program first started, because there is now so many things that we eat that are high in fiber but low in points but you know the old saying, "A CALORIE IS STILL A CALORIE". Everytime WW changed their program people complained and said they liked the "old" one better. Well if you are getting good results on the current plan, I would say stay on it but if not try the new one. :) I'm looking forward to what they have to say about the new program.
"See" you all later.

LilyG

I think the changes look good. Never did think the high fiber foods should be counted so low.
And as for carrots and the others veggies they do contain alot of sugar. I know when I was eating alot of fruit I stopped losing and it was beacause of all the sugar. Soon as I cut back on the fruit I started losing again.

I asked my leader about the changes and she really wouldnt say. She tried the new program for a week and lost 4 pounds tho.

She also said they are coming out with a 3 month Journal. It will have to be bought and it will be 5 or 6 $. They will still have the weekly free one tho. But thats all she would tell me.

Im all for the new changes, they look good to me!

Also agree with Slavika, if what you are doing works stick with it.

Trudy
11-01-2000, 07:27 AM
Down 2 lbs. YIPEE!! :D And all I did was drink my water, exercise regularly and stay OP. Could there be a message here?
Slavika..Ouch! That cut must have really hurt your son, just a paper cut smarts in that web area. It is raining so hard outside right now, 6:30pm here. I wonder how many munchkins will be coming out. I am sitting here with 60 Jersey Milk Chocolate bars (my favorite ;) )..so far only 1 BIG ex-munckin has been to the door. I was hoping to give out 55 and I would have 1 and DH would have 4...that was the plan...OY VEY!
Dee..you tell the Doctor exactly how you feel, no glossing over the facts. Remember we don't pay for our Medical..(not yet anyway)!
Lily..I have experienced the same weight gain with fruits as you did. I have also had a gain with the fiber. My Doctor increased the amount of fiber I eat because of Diverticulosis, and that is when I started to gain. I don't eat as much high fiber foods anymore, they were putting on the weight and making me feel awful...so this change in program might be a good thing. I will try it out. I also saw the Little Journal Books for sale today at the WW Meeting...I didn't check out the price. I hope they are still going to hand out the individual weekly ones ~ maybe I should "pick up" some spares, like 100 or so...LOL, just in case. I'm not going to pay $5 or $6 for them. Next week I will ask what is going on with the Journals. Karen can you tell us anything about this without breaking any of the rules?....don't want to get you into any trouble.

Happy Halloween everybody...

slavika
11-01-2000, 11:15 AM
HI Lily and Everybody else Well Weight Watchers did not get my money today. I lost the 1# so now I am 152#, two lbs over goal so I did not have to pay. Oh I was one Happy Camper. :)
We have had a very wet and dreary Halloween. :( DH felt we should have 2 boxes of those chocolates for the munchkins a total of 185 bars. How many children did we actually get~~~~~~~~28.
I am not as a rule a big chocolate bar eater. If I am going to have chocolate I much prefer to get a couple of really good ones at a chocolate store.
How was everybody elses Halloween this year and by the way where is everybody? ?
"See" you all tomorrow.

Changes

WW has adjusted the program to fit todays world. Addressing the High fiber was a very good place to start. 4 grams is going to be the magic number. We will still be getting our weekly journal and they have changed it a little, nothing major. Carrots will count 1 point for 1 cup along with onions and a couple of other thing there were 5 all together. There is some personal test for all to take as where they should be spending points. And in stead of a 7 point range it will be 5. This is the one I spuddered over. But then you will be able to earn the 2 points back through exercise. We also know that members are going to do what works for them and this is ok. These changes were made because some members were not happy with their weight loss. Wanted quicker results and so on. The theme for this year is Another Piece Of The Puzzle. Please don't panic remember CHANGE is good!!!! In our area we are rolling out the new program around Dec. 12. Merry Christmas :) And shhhhhhhhh! you didn't hear this from me  So act surprised when you leader tell you whats new :D. Also I love the idea of the 12 week journal for those who don't attend every week and those who like to keep their journals so they can look back to see what works. I'm big on journaling.

Dee: Sorry it wasnt good news at the Dr. Dont tell the Dr everything is all right when its not. Im sure you are tierd of the tests but they need to find out what is going on. Best to tell him everything so you can get better! So tell him everything! Or Trudy and Slavika will come after you and you dont want that now do you???

Trudy: Congrats on the loss! They are suppose to keep the other Journal. So you dont need to horde them. The other is just for those who want to pay for it, and have a 3 month look.

Slavika: WOO HOO! Non paying! Congrats on getting that 1# off!
How is your sons hand doing?

Doxie: I heard there was gonna be new 2 points bars also.

Pretty sorry around here for Trick or Treaters. Opened the door 5 times is all. Last bunch there were about 5 kids. So I gave them all the rest of the Candy and turned out the lights! Didnt want the candy round here! Better on thier hips then mine!

Karen: We must of been posting at the same time. Thanks for the update! They all sound good to me. Sounds like it will be better for those of us who need more control on the fiber and such.

Night all

Reading about the changes, I have felt good about what I have read. I lost so slooooowly and stayed on program, but ate an awful lot of high fiber low points foods. I know my bag of popcorn only counts as 2 points, but it has 220 calories. So this makes sense to me. Calories are calories, no matter how much fiber you get. Karen - And I would love the 3 month journal because I don't go every week, but journal always. All in all, this sounds good. We had a point in our WW session when no one was losing and everyone was so frustrated. I think this could make a big difference.

We also had a slow Halloween. You remember that candy I have binged on 2 nights and had to buy more? Well, I didn't need to buy more--just had 14 kids. I am going to give these candy bars away today to SOMEBODY--cannot have them in my house.

Dee-You better tell your doctor everything. That is the only way to get better. Slavika and Trudy, I am sure you can see to it that she minds.

I know this is one day late, but here goes: Here's hoping all your demons, ghosties, and goblins are clothed by Wal-Mart!

We are having a bad week of awful dreary weather. Right now it is thundering, and tomorrow we might get our first snow fluries. The temp. is supposed to drop! :( My knees and ankle are so sore from the dampness. I was looking at the weather map in the newpaper, and you gals in the southern States sure are lucky now.
We only had 31 gremlins last night so I told my DH to hide the remaining 29 bars and I don't want to see him eating any in front of me. Out of sight, out of mind. :)
Slavika.. \o/ YEA \o/ You did good girl!
Doxie..What is a 2 point bar? Sounds like I am missing out on something.
Karen..Thanks for the advance info. I am wondering about the range too, however I always adapt to the new programs. (Believe me, I have seen quite a few of them.) I have to Journal every day for the program to work for me, I save the good weeks.
Lily..Glad to hear I won't have to stock pile journals. LOL :D
Glenda..When does your WW start the new program? Our leader hasn't said anything yet, but I will ask her on Tuesday.
Dee.. You are worrying me. I hope you called your Doctor.

I saw this quote on Dottie's When life gives you scraps, make a quilt

Hello Everyone
I do read almost everyday but don't get the time to post.
We had very few Halloween visitors last night about 3 or 4 groups. I sent the rest of the candy off to school with my daughter to put in the staff room. I wore a Minnie Mouse costume to work yesterday and received lots of smiles and compliments. I was only tempted once as someone brought in fresh krispy kreme donuts but I just stopped and decided I could have it but didn't want to spend the points. I bought candy for the trick or treaters that I didn't like and my mantra was "if it isn't Godiva - forget it" It worked!!

I weighed in last Saturday and am down 85 lbs.! Only 105 to go (one step at a time)
I am nervous about the changes in WW as I want to stay focused. But I really learned that I have to make this my own. So I will listen and learn and make it work for me! But I will act surprised when I hear them Karen LOL

I loved the water article - I know I lose better when I drink lots of H2O.

Dee I hope you called your Doctor! It may be nothing but you need to be careful.

I hope I'm on that tree skirt list. Maybe I'll have the stiched ornaments I started in 1978 finished by then and will have a lovely tree LOL
We could always use the tree skirts to decorate our rocking chairs on the old folk's home porch....
Would you believe that I forgot to carve our pumpkin? That's the problem with having no little ones around!
My focus is to stay OP and focused from now to Thanksgiving and then recommit again. I want to get the 15 lbs to make it an even 100 for New Year's.
Trudy 2 points bars are just that - little snack bars that are only 2 points. They are only sold at WW and come in Milk Chocolate, Vanilla Peanut Butter and Dark Chocolate Strawberry. I've heard that Peanut Butter Chocolate is on the way. They are pretty good and satisfy a sweet tooth and fill you up.

I hope everyone is having a great start to November. I'm gathering good ideas for getting through the next few months and staying OP. (and since I just drank two more 8oz glasses of water while writing this I'm off to waltz :)

Trudy - 2 point bars are my personal WW lifesavers! I buy them at our meetings. The flavors are chocolate (kind of like a brownie covered in milk chocolate), Strawberry covered in dark chocolate, and peanut covered in white frosting. They are pricey - 4 for around $4.00. But for me they are worth it. Kind of a cross between a chewy granola bar and a candy bar. All for only 2 points!
We had about 1/2 our usual goblins. I have about 2 bags of candy left. My son is coming home for a friend's wedding this weekend, so I imagine a good share of it will disappear. It started raining last night around 7:30. Most of the kids headed for home.
I stayed the same again this week. So, I'm back to journaling. I made it through my scout meeting tonight on ice tea when they served cupcakes and cider. Now my next challenge will be the wedding on Saturday. From the reception location I would guess the food is going to be sandwiches and salads, & of course wedding cake etc. The kids are trying to economize and pay for everything themselves. It will be a good time, and I'm looking forward to it. We've known the groom since he was in junior high.

Hi Everybody: TRUDY is right what dreary weather we are having and tonight we are having heavy rain and thunder. My lights went out for about 2 min. and then on.
Went out shopping and lunch with my friend and managed to buy a couple of Christmas presents. YEH. :) I bought a cute little pair of "diamond" earrings set in sterling sliver for the Princess. When you are 5 years old you think anything that sparkles is a diamond. LOL. :D
Now CAL Trudy and I wouldn't forget about you. This I promise, you will get your Christmas Tree Skirt at the same time we deliver the skirts to the other gals.
:D Trust me on that one. LOL.
I always enjoy your posts, I wish you would come around more often. You know you are doing so well with your weight loss program that when you reach your goal you should submit your name to "Woman's World" magazine. Every week on the front cover they have the picture of "somebody" who lost weight and inside you get to read all about how they did it. OR how about WW Magazine, you could be one of those success stories, that might be better. LOL I'll be your agent.
TRUDY we are making a "quilted " tree skirt from sort of scraps. Except we had to buy the scraps.
DEE the gals here have given you good advise, listen to them. :)

Hi all. It's been a couple of days and I see that Dee has not been doing a-ok. Have you been back to the Dr. What about those pains. Please look after yourself. We may be slow but nothing can get started until you see the dr.

We had about 60 kids so most of my candy went. Afterwards I had about 40 adults over and they ate the rest. We had a pot luck and let off some fire works. It was fun.

Colleen just left with Jordan so I had a fun afternoon visiting and hugging.

I'm off for the weekend leaving tomorrow for Orcas Island in the US San Juan Islands with a friend. We get to stay in a cabin and enjoy the view.

Well I got on the scale and was up 1 1/2 lbs. I should have known I couldn't maintain forever. I wish it was because I was going to hibernate all winter but no such luck. I am being real careful today. -- chicken salad for supper...

Well everyone I will see you next week so have a good weekend and stay OP....donna

Hi y'all-----------Just stopping by for a quick hello and to ask for your prayers. I hope to get back later and catch up on the thread. I have to go back to #74. I hope I haven't missed anything real important.

I am finally having that dental work done tomorrow. Remember (you "old timers) the work that was scheduled back in March and then rescheduled several times because of the stomatitis. Well, it looks like it is going to happen in the morning. I am scared to death. That is an understatement. Scared "spitless" (got the picture) is more alike it. I would rather take a beating than go to the dentist. I will be sedated, but I am still scared to death. Keep me in your prayers in the morning. I need them.

Hope to get back later and check out what is happening.

Also, the DH and I are going to vote in the morning before I go to the dentist. In Texas we can vote early if we choose.

Hi

I just thought I would let you gals know that I did go to the Dr.

He is sending me to the hospital for ultra sound to check for blood clots.

I will let you know how things go.

I asked Slavika if she wanted to donate her
body to me in exchange for mine. She
declined. :(
Anybody want to trade? I am under goal weight, 37 years young, and was a model in my younger days. Any takers?

Margot \o/ HOORAY!! \o/...You are just doing great! I am sure you will reach your 15 lb target by New Years, and we will be here to cheer you on while you lose the rest. You are amazing :D
Doxie..I found out that we can't get the 2 point bars here in Canada.
Lily..Donuts don't tempt me either. We go to Robin's or Tim Horton's for coffee, and I usually have soup instead.
Lela..I am glad to hear you are going back to WW. Just start over and don't worry about any temporary gains.
Donna..Nice to hear from you. Sounds like you had a fun Halloween. :) Enjoy your week at Orcas Island, and tell us all about it when you get home.
Geri..Your Stomatitis must be cleared up now. That is good news!! Good luck at the dentist tomorrow, will be sending "be brave vibes" to you. I know how you are feeling, hate the dentist visits too. It always amazes me that so many eligible voters don't vote. How can we complain about the Govt. if we don't go to the polls?
Slavika..How many skirts do we have to make now? Please...you've got to stop taking orders...my fingers are getting worn to the bone, covered in pin pricks. See you tomorrow. :D
Just talked to Dee via e-mail, and she is going to the Hospital tomorrow to have some tests done...Good Luck Dee.

A day hemmed in prayer is less likely to unravel.

Dee..we must have been posting at the same time! She forgot to mention she has lovely long brown hair and is quite a beauty!

Goodnight all.....

KERMIT Hi there and thank you. :) Since Tues. weigh-in I have done nothing but eat. YIKES. I think I better not have another morsel of food from now until after next Tuesday weigh-in. I was out for lunch yesterday, out for a friend's birthday lunch today, having a birthday dinner for another friend this Saturday. I think I may be forced to serve "rice cakes". I have stepped up the walking a little bit on my treadmill and starting tomorrow I will increase the time I'm on too. Hopefully that will help.
GERI Hi old friend, you bet I remember all the trouble you were having with your mouth. How sedated will you be?
Let them know up front that you are scared, (what was your word, oh yes "spitless") and that you may require the same amount of sedation they would give to a 400 lb man. :D I'll be thinking about you.
SCHOOLGIRL from everything I have picked up on the boards the changes in the WW program seem to be really good ones. I think with the program the way it is the people who were eating a lot of fiber were not seeing very good losses. The thing with the carrots~~~~~well I think some people were eating so many their skin was turning an orange color. (Well I don't know that for a fact, LOL)
Have a great time DONNA and "talk" to you after the week end.
So where is everybody else? Lots of gals are missing. I don't think Josie has been around for awhile, and what about Anne and Silvergal.
DEE I'm thinking about you. :)
"See" you all later.

Hi all,

Just got in from the WW meeting, and it was not as bad as I had though it would be, just a small gain. So now I start all over and have 80 pounds to go.
Geri I'll be thinking about you and sending no pain vibes, but I'm with you hate the dentist, maybe that is why I had to have so much work done the frist of the year and still need to have more done.

Need to go spend some time with DH, before he thinks I ran away from home,
Have a good night
Lela
