Hiya folks

I thought I would have a try a posting a poll to find out what kind of diets we are all on.... bear with me here cos I have never posted a poll before in my life....

If I have missed out your diet could you tell us a bit about it, or if you are on a diet and aren't happy with it, perhaps you could tell us why.

Have posted that I am counting cals - only started that this morning. Swapped over from WW so it's all new. SO I'll be needing help with some figures.

How may cals in pack of polos? They dont have the less cals one in whsmiths where I go every morn for paper so I'll have to get them from super duper market.

I am trying to practice what I preach. I feel guilty when telling clients to eat healthily and then going home and scarfing pizza cos I can't be bothered to cook!

Also if I make it hubby eats it. He's getting quite fond of veg based meals. Cutting down on the carbs is proving hard. Any low cal, low carb recipes gratefully received!

Thanks, Steff, and welcome back - you reminded me.... I read a really good tip for pizza the other day - when you have cooked it blot it with kitchen paper - I did that last night and I was amazed how much oil came off (rather put me off the pizza though!)

I voted for counting calories too, I know I go to Pinched Old Bag Class (Rosemary Conley) but that's just to get weighed.

I'm going to try blotting pizza next time we have it.

I like to blot it in my mouth!

I might have to take some kitchen roll to Pizza Hut next time I go!! Not that I ever do, except that they sent me some vouchers because I complained last time I went and now I have to go spend them. :^:

I voted for counting calories too and thanks to some good advice from Sarah regarding my BMR, I am aiming for 1700 calories a day.

Hi Neelix - another Star Trek fan - welcome to the mad house... the more the merrier! Don't dive in to the chocolate - come and post here with us. Most of us have done a little bio about ourselves on a thread called 'Hello, I'm....' if you want to get to know us a bit better. (Although it will probably scare you away!!)

Veggie - yes, I voted! Cheeky!!!!! Calorie counting.

BPB - what do you mean 'to a fashion'?????? My MIL is watching her cholesterol levels 'to a fashion' - which we have found out doesn't include takeaway foods or anything she eats standing up.

I wonder who voted for 'something else' and I wonder what the something else is....???? Anyone willing to own up??????

Hi, in between going to the hospital I am trying to do Slimming World. I have contacted my club leader about the possibility of getting a weigh in at some stage, although my nights are going to be taken up. I think I will just be trying to keep my eating as healthy for the time being

To a fashion means that I am pointing absolutely everything - even when I know I have gone over my points allocation. I know some people who think it doesn't count if you don't write it down :s: but I haven't reached that stage yet.

I do need to increase my exercise and water intake and to stop letting "life" bog me down and turning to food for comfort (which has been a major factor lately).

BPB - when you figure out how to do that can you email me immediately with the secret.

Saturday morning I weighed 13st 5lbs (only 1lb short on my February challenge) and I was feeling so pleased with myself and today I weigh 13st 8lbs .... now I know someone is bound to say it is fake lard - but given what I ate yesterday (under extreme stress and distress) I don't think it is.... sob!!

This is like Alcoholics Annonymous or something... I am hoping by telling what I ate that I will feel a bit better about myself - but I bet I won't - well - At foster training I ate 2xDanish Pastries, Fish & Chips and two buttered rolls, a chicken and mushroom pasty, 3 doughnuts - then we went to the same pub where I had an enormous spicy chicken burger thing in a baguette (and I do mean enormous) with a HUGE salad selection plate - you know - all the mayonnaise based ones with just a touch of the healthy type ones. Its no consolation really, but I was probably one of the people who ate the least.

And then there was the alcohol....... !

Thank goodness that is the last full day of training - from now on it is just evenings until after we are approved.

Sarah don't beat yourself up. You have had 2 very stressful weekends, I would probably have reacted exactly the same. I eat when the going get tough & in a group environment its not always as easy to say no.

Today is another day.

:o Its embarrassing to admit, but I am trying Slim Fast. Is this something we dont talk about?? I have been doing it for a week and so far so good - I check my calorie intake and make sure I drink lots of water.

Has anyone else tried this? Along with doing Yoga each week I am hoping it might make a difference.

Hi Neelix

I tried Slim Fast in 1992 I had a delicious nutritious shake for breakfast, a delicious nutritious shake for lunch and collapsed at 3pm, banged my head on a desk (I was at work) woke up in Casualty and the Dr telling me never to try that stupid slimming drink again....

However, if it works for you then go for it.:)

:?: thanks Melissa! I feel ok so far but I'm not too hopeful as to if I will lose weight or not.

I am having a shake at breakfast and then a soup for lunch plus 3 peices of fruit to snack on. In the evening I have a sensible dinner (I know I sound just like that silly advert......) so I'm not too hungry.

Anyway, here's to hoping I don't collapse!

Hi Neelix - hope I didn't scare you.

It sounds like the Slim Fast plan has come on since I tried it, there were no soups when I did it and you weren't allowed to snack on fruit, just the delicious nutritious shakes for breakfast and lunch and then a "sensible" dinner - good luck to you. ;)

My sister in law kick started her diet on Slimfast 2 years ago. She weighed in at nearly 11 stone after she had her son, she is now down to just below 9 stone - she is under 5 feet tall - and happy. She was struggling to stick to anyother plan at the beginning, but the slimfast got her focused & into a healthy eating frame of mind.

I couldn't do it - I like real food too much.

I tried Slimfast once - but then again I think that over the years I have tried just about evey diet. My problem with it was that I was always hungry. I might have been taking in a reasonable number of calories, but it was the actual social/physical act of eating that I missed.

I think the main thing to remember is to drink enough water while you are using Slimfast and to use it as a sort of stepping stone to a easier to sustain healthy eating plan. It does sound a bit more sensible than it used to though - I was having meal replacement shakes at every meal.

At least Slimfast is better than those daft meal replacement biscuits they use to sell (or do they still sell them???)

Veggie;
Hi, If I remember right, Polos are like our Lifesavers over here. According to my tried and trusty Calorie and Fat counter, Lifesavers have 8 cals per sweet and 80 cals per pack. No fat.
Catch you later

Hi

Who is doing SW apart from me?

Hi Ladies,
I'm doing WW, American style. I don't actually think I have the brain power to count calories, my math's has always been crappy, but I can just about manage to add up to 24 with WW. I tried Slim Fast quite a few years ago too, I was always starving, missed the chewing part of eating i like to think...
I'm actually not feeling too well at the moment, bit of a fuzzy head going on after an all day pounding headache, so if this doesn't make sense, just ignore me.

:D Dont worry Melissa, you didn't freak me out (totally!)... hahaha.

I have kept it very quiet because I know there is such a stigma attached to Slim Fast. Since I had my son (he is now 8!) I haven't lost the weight I put on - I went from a size 12 to a 16 and have stayed there. When I went to M&S and had to buy a pair of large 'Bridget Jones' style pants (size 18) I started to panic.

I do see this as a temporary thing until I shift some weight! Luckily my husband is being very supportive, even though, in his words, he likes me cuddly!!

That's a very comprehensive list - he doesn't seem to have missed anything out!

It must have taken him weeks to type all that out - he must have a VERY boring life!
