Cool stuff! Smoothies and cold beverages

  • This is my "generic" smoothie recipe. I have this for breakfast most every morn.

    1 c skim milk
    1/2 c vanilla nonfat yogurt
1/3 c dry quick cook oatmeal (uncooked)
    2 Tbsp crushed flax seed
    2 or 3 ice cubes

Give this a whirl in the blender. 1 serving
    Nut Val for basic recipe

    Now for the yummy variations....
    banana
banana + 1 tsp low fat p nut butter
    fresh peach
fresh peach + a sprinkle of cinnamon
    1/3 c frozen mixed berries
1/2 env ff hot cocoa mix
1/2 env ff hot cocoa mix + 1 tsp low fat p nut butter

Use your imagination! This is a very healthy smoothie...the flax seed is a great source of omega-3 fatty acid, plus the lignans in it may help alleviate many symptoms of menopause, including depression.
    Enjoy!

BTW...Here's a little secret...sometimes I sprinkle in a little sugar free jello powder for extra flavor in a plain smoothie...or I may add a little sugar free strawberry powder to a smoothie with banana in it...you get the idea.
  • That recipe is very close to the smoothie I make but mine goes like this:

    1 c. milk
    1 c. frozen strawberries
    1 scoop vanilla whey powder
1Tbsp. ground flax (for Omega 3 and fiber)
    1 tsp. Udo's oil ( for Omega 3-6-9)

Let the frozen berries sit in the milk for a few minutes this makes the smoothie very thick, then add other ingredients, I use my handi dandi Braun mixer whirl it around ...

I drink this after a workout...

  • non fat sugar free chocolate shake
Hi I am new here. This is my subsitute for a chocolate shake. In blender I put two cups ice water, 2/3 cup non fat dry milk, one big teaspoon of cocoa, splenda (greatest sugar subsitute in the world) to your sugar taste. I use about 1/3 cup. add a handful of ice cubes and use highest setting on my blender. Makes a great drink. You can use other things too besides cocoa. I use bananas or any of the extracts. Any fruits works great. I use it at night, at the 9pm bewitching hour, when I feel pressed, about to eat something before bed. It fills me up and keeps me from eating food after 6pm.
  • Hey, guys. I know this is an older sticky, but I want to contribute my new good smoothie find. I saw some frozen rhubarb at the store, and picked up some frozen strawberries, and needless to say, it got my wheels turning. Strawberry rhubarb pie is good, right? Well, so are stawberry rhubarb smoothies.

    1/2 cup rhubarb (35 cals)
    2/3 cup strawberries (50 cals)
1 cup almond milk or skim milk (I choose almond milk because it's 40 cals a cup if you get unsweetened)
    2 tablespoons splenda
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    1/2 cup water

This is delcious! Try it sometime. Rhubarb and strawberries are both great for you not to mention the added vitamins and low carbiness of the almond milk (or protein in reg. milk).
  • yum!
    This sounds so good!!!
