Default Getting tats DIRECTLY after weight loss?

A friend and I were talking and they told me that I should wait at least a year after weight loss to get my tats...is that true?

I've been thinking about getting a tattoo to celebrate my weight loss so far, and so we went to the tattoo shop in our area with the bet reputation and asked some questions.

I was especially concerned about the effect of further weight loss (or weight regain) on a tatoo, and asked about it. I asked if I should wait until I lose all the weight, and what effect weight los/gain/toning, redistribution would have on the appearance of the tattoo.

I was told that it really depends on the type of design you choose and where you want the tattoo. Some areas and some designs are more susceptible to distortion, so weight gain, loss, or redistribution can warp the design.

I was wanting a celtic knotwork design, which he said would work just about anywhere. If I wanted a complex design for which proportion was important (say a portrait of someone) then I'd have to consider placement more carefully.

I was a little embarassed to ask, but the tattoo artist says that he gets the questions all the time - not only from men and women who are concerned with weight gain/loss from dieting, but also body builders (because their proportions change). He said he's had more of a distortion problem with the body builders than with people who've just put on or taken off weight.
