Thumbs down Loose skin issues;

Since I have lost a little weight I have noticed that my skin is loose and sagging. Especially on my upper arms, they look like bat wings LOL I hope the skin firms up a little or I am going to have to keep them covered up. I know I probably shouldn't complain, but I have never had this problem before

I'd be patient and let several months or even a year go by. In seeing weight loss on others who've lost a fair amount of weight (I have no recent personal experience), it seems the skin sometimes takes awhile to catch up. But often, it does. The best thing we can do is exercises to firm the muscles underneath (which add shape and tone us up) and follow a healthy diet with lots of good fats, vitamins and antioxidants, right?

When thinking about my own future thin body, I do wonder if I'll have loose skin. And I've decided that it doesn't matter. I'll still look heaps better than I do right now.

The skin on my arms was VERY loose and flabby. It looked like crinkled tissue paper. Since i started working out every day its barley noticeable now. Its not gone completely but i can confidently wear something sleeveless.

I knew a young lady who lost a considerable amount of weight and ended up with an apron. She said that she only noticed loose skin when she had lost over 30lb. She was only about five two, and was very pretty. You would never have known. I am in my late 50's,wanting to loose about 3 stone,and its the skin issue that worries me the most.

You can have the loose skin removed surgically, but it's very costly and not covered by insurance unless it is causing a health issue. I really don't want loose skin, but the fat doesn't look good either, and I think I should have thought about that while I was letting myself gain all this weight. Younger people can lose a lot of weight and the skin shrinks back accordingly, but at my age, nothing is going to shrink back. I would still rather have the loose skin that the fat.

Try the poor man's plastic surgery -- exercise! And it is better to lose the weight slowly. I have lost almost 60 pounds and my arms have no loose skin beyond a few crinkles over the bicep area when they are relaxed. I started losing the weight when I turned 50 and I just turned 60. I started doing resistance training about 7 years ago.

Good for you! Apparently you are one of the lucky ones whose skin has not yet lost it's elasticity. Resistance training is definately helpful!

I know this is an old thread, but wondered if anyone has had any luck with moisturisers or creams?
I've noticed a crinkly looking bit of skin just above my belly button, it's loose skin for sure, and definitely looks better than before when it was fat, but as I still have 7-14 pounds to lose, I'm looking for ways to stop it getting worse.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Anni

I agree that it is best to lose the weight slowly and exercise. One thing I read about sometime ago was an article on Skin brushing and weight loss on the Live strong website. I saw a video on YouTube of a woman demonstrating it. I am thinking of trying during my weight loss journey.
