I like CJ Banks (they carry size 14 and up)--I've bought a lot of work clothes there. I've never successfully found pants there, but lots of shells, tops, jackets, and cardigans.

I buy most of my tops at Kohl's. They have lots of sales and promotions and a website that has good visuals. I don't buy high-dollar clothes in a 2x. When I get back into an L or XL I'm going to buy myself a new coat. I dislike just about everything about plus-size clothing - the huge necklines being the worst. I was raised in the 60s and 70s and I'm not eager to wear geometric polyester again.

On the positive side, I can go to Wal-Mart and get Lee jeans in black or khaki that make me feel good from the waist down.

I like Eileen Fisher. These were my only clothes when I grew to 1x. You can buy a couple of basics and then add some variety and color with additional pieces. Her clothes are on the pricy side. I generally buy them used/new on Ebay.

I second CJ Banks, too! I can trust their sizing and order online. Kohl's is my second choice, but that depends on the line.

Tammy, you might also like Talbots for Women. They have very classic styles and colors. They are expensive but have a really great sales section in the back.

Oddly enough, thrifts. I find upper end and designer labels there all the time. With so many women losing weight some pretty top drawer stuff finds it's way to thrifts especially in the 1X/XL sizes. Larger are harder to come by.

Have you tried Roaman's or Serengeti?

I had nothing to wear that fit so I just went to the thrift store to find some pants that fit. I found 4 pairs of 1x -18s that fit. I also found some nice basic (no crazy colors) tops. I have another friend who is a plus size woman, she is always beautifully dressed and hasn't shopped in a retail store for years. She says the trick is to go often and be choosy. Always look at each piece and evaluate whether it will go with something else you have.

I love Serengeti's things! Great accessories, too.

I like Penningtons and have done a bit of shopping at Additionelle. I like the clothing at both of these places.

I have been wearing Lee Casuals in 18W. BUT they were very hard to find. I had to scour e-bay to get them. Never found a brick and mortar store that I could just walk in and purchase. At least the ones I wanted.

I have started the thrift store scouring, too. It's hard because it depends on the area. Not all of them have good clothing selections. And it is tiring and time consuming to go often and pour through it. Worth it, tho, especially for the transition clothes.

I shop at what is convenient in the smallish town I live in, so that leaves Kohl's and Dress Barn, which I also love.

Kohl's has a small section for Women's plus sizes from 0X to 3X.

At Kohl's Women's department, trendier brands there are Apt. 9 and Daisy Fuentes. I'm in my late 40s and like an updated look (not too sedate) so I usually wear Apt. 9 and Daisy Fuentes from there, however, the necklines can be super deep. As an overly busty apple shape, I welcome that neckline, lol, but it's not for everyone. Sonoma is the Kohl's store brand, and it's usually comprised of basic style pieces, nothing too far-out style-wise. I find the necklines more forgiving in this brand, and the cuts/patterns more subdued, but I have to watch out for shorter length shirts, or shirts that shrink up to a shorter length after washing. Dana Buchman is the high(est) end brand in the Women's sizes. Some of her pieces are a pretty strong style statement, but the target group in my opinion is the mature professional woman. I have a long torso, so this line's generally shorter length tops keep me from buying them often. I think they look great, and age appropriate. Jennifer Lopez plus sizes also sell at Kohl's, but only at Kohls.com and not in the stores.

I pretty much love Dress Barn. What a name for a store, lol! But it's so nice to walk in somewhere and see a large area devoted to plus size clothing. The associates there have always been super helpful. My favorite purchases from there have been pants. I have also been wearing some of their store brand shapewear since I have been losing weight, and I'm really pleased with it, especially for budget shapewear!

It depends on where I am and the money I have available for clothing. I mostly shop (recently anyway) at Woman Within. I have also shopped at Torrid, Lane Bryant and Wal-Mart in the past.
