Hi everyone. i had the most amazing nsv today and wanted to share. i grew up on a lake in minnesota, spent all my summers in that lake,i loved to swim, was on the girls swimmimg team in h school. after moving to alaska i took my kids to the pool.to cold to swim in lakes. as my weight incresed i was really self conscious about being in a swim suit. i smartalec kid commented on my size and i never went back. until today both steve and i wanted an exercise that we both liked and was free, and something we could do together for fun. i was brave and had so much fun. the life guard told us 9 laps in the pool walking is the same as 1 mile. so we did 2 miles, laughing all the time. the pool wasnt crowded but for a few of old farts like us in similar shape. as ive gotton older im not as self conscious, if you dont like how i look dont look. it has ceased to bother me what i think others are thinking about me if that makes any sence we will deff go back, its a beautiful dome shaped pool all glass windows so you can see the snow coming down.the pool is huge, with a handicapped ramp so i could walk right in,hot tubs and water slides too. i just wonder what took me so long. rosey

breakfast
cinnamon latte

lunch
1/2 grilled cheese and ham sand

snack
coffee mocha
100 cal bag of popcorn

dinner
1 c chinese noodles made with moose and vegies

Congrats, Rosey!!

Thanks for the instructions on enhanced editing, Bobbi - I had no idea! I'm now a full function user, haha.

Came home and went straight to bed. Sometimes I don't have the oomph to pour sand out of my shoes! Later, lovelies!!

What? You say I look tired this morning? I usually wake up at six…set my alarm for six thirty in case I don’t. This morning I was surprised when the alarm went off and I was sooooo tired and there was no light in the sky but I was a good girl. Got up. Got dressed. Walked the dog. Came down to make coffee and found that I’d pushed something wrong on my alarm clock yesterday and it was four-thirty. Argh!

I have a little head cold and it’s making me cranky. Scratch that. Yesterday it was making me eat frosting. The frosting is now gone, so that can’t happen again. Lost half a pound anyway, since I’ve just started dieting and you know how it goes.

Worrying about my BFF’s husband, who suddenly has some potentially scary health things going on. (They have an appt. today with a specialist.) I’m sending up prayers and vague positive thoughts towards them finding some simple and fixable solution.

On a much brighter note—started the process yesterday of getting a second dog!

Jess – I’ve thought about getting rid of Dish, too. We have a Roku box and use it a lot!

Bobbi – I’ve figure out recipes on Sparks, too, but I get lazy and just stick in some number a lot. (I try to aim too high.) English Setters are so beautiful! We have an English Cocker. (Used to have an English Springer. Does that cover most of the English dogs?)

Rosey – I loved your swimming/swim walking/whatever you call it story!

K3 – I just got the K3 part! And I, too, want to know what kind of turkey sausage you eat. Yum!

MaryGee – I still have my dad’s old manual typewriter, so I loved your story! I remember how odd it was all those years ago to not have to press “return” at the end of the line!

Gayle - I really like your avatar. Is it a piece of jewelry? And great job of finding a way to make walking at lunch work for you!

Carol Sue – I’ve just noticed that I have a few friends with parents who live with them…I think the culture is swinging back to that.

Have a good day, everybody!

Good Morning

Rosey...I was right there in the dome swimming with you and Steve and watching the snow flakes fall around you. What fun and it's so much easier on your joints. It's great that DH loves it too!

Lizzie...such a nice personal post from you. Donna is the one who uses Sparks, I do Fitday. I'm a member of sparks but found it draws too much of my time. I can feed food data into Fitday and get the same results as sparks.
Did you watch the dog show yesterday? There was a English Setter among the top 5 but wasn't picked for the final winner, he was liver spotted. Our Charlie is black spotted and would have made a great show dog. He prances just like the show dogs. Prejudice? YUP.

Donna...glad you're full function but one thing you'll not want to hear. When changing your ticker, you have to go back to standard mode, change your ticker, then put in the advanced again. For some reason you can't change your ticker in the advanced mode. UNLESS that has been modified, I haven't tried it lately. I'll try it in the advanced mode when I finish this short post. I checked out my nutrient graph chart yesterday in Fitday and see I'm low on protein. I'll have to make a point of eating more meat and less veggies.

My menu for yesterday:

Quote:
Breakfast:
Fiber One, Flax & Chia seeds
Applesauce
Yogurt
Vitamins

Lunch:

Strawberry, blueberry, Banana skim milk shake

Supper:
baked Chicken
Butternut squash
Radishes sliced thin with butter spray, salt and pepper
Homemade lime jello with pineapple

Evening snack:

Lemon Custard with sf/ff cool whip
Kiwi

868 calories and 42 grams of fiber

Donna...I just tried to change my ticker in advanced mode and the little box doesn't appear where you can just change the number. I had to go back to standard, change my ticker and change back to advanced. But it's no big deal, just a few clicks on the computer.

morning...am sneezing and dripping..yuck! What ever is blooming got me.

We use Jimmy Deans turkey bkft sausage. I like the links better than the patties. Been on sale. I beat one real egg into the egg beaters to give it a better body. It sure fills me up all day. The large store made turkey sausage are okay but they lose their favor quickly.

No sense posting yesterday's menu or probably todays since am in a rut and it is exactly the same as day before...just change the dinner protein. Boring but easy.

Running late...gotta get ready for bridge...k3

Bobbi - Thanks for the instructions for switching to advanced. I will try it out and if I get confused I'll switch back. I get confused easily. LOL

I went to Sparkpeople yesterday to see what it was all about. I was hoping I could just snoop around to see if I was interested but I had to sign up to even look at it. Like you Bobbi, it seems like more involvement than I would like. I just like to enter my food to see the total calories and such. I also keep track of my weight somewhat, and measurements. Since I had those 2 belly surgeries my waist has increased 2 inches. I am up a little in my weight, too,(8 lb) but I think having that muscle cut twice has done a job on my waist and it will be much harder to lose it now. Oh well, what do I want at 67? LOL Like Rosie, I don't care what others think. I just want to button my pants.

I forgot to tell ya all about something about my jello yesterday. I stopped buying the boxed sugar free jellos and puddings last year because of the aspartame and stuff I can't pronounce. I have a large box of unflavored Knox packets in the pantry which mostly gets ignored. I had a fresh lime that needed using up so I googled a recipe using knox. You'd be amazed at all the recipes on the Knox site, check them out.

Anyway, the lime jello turned out really good using stevia, the fresh lime and some pineapple slices I put in the bottom of my jello mold. DH even liked it!

Good Hola!

MaryGee – glad you got it figured out. BTW, the box with the writing is approximately 1/2 of the way across the top, not at the right top. Gayle – I was very tired after I tried your quote approach. Once I changed my settings, per Bobbi’s instructions, you just need to highlight what you want and stick it in the quotes!

Gayle – I can so sympathize with the stiffness in the morning! I know that yoga would help; even just bending over and touching the floor helps with the back stiffness. Yoga is way too painful right now, and it’s hard to do those poses. Much as I hate it, I’m apparently getting used to the twice daily glider, and I’m up to, and this is a biggie for me!, 8 minutes a pop. It hurts like he**, but I can walk for a while afterwards. So, it’s worth it. We’re just a mess, aren’t we?

CarolSue – you’re right about elderly parents moving in with their kids. Even a basic nursing home room in the Denver area goes for around $5,000 a month! Who can afford that?????? I’m so grateful that GM is still able to take care of herself, mostly, because she’d be welcome only in the shed in my backyard, if it came to that. I’d last about a day and a ½ of her living with me. It would fall to me or to my sister to provide for her... god forbid one of the boys and their spouses would. GM wouldn't go with any of them, anyway, I suppose.

Signing up for SparkPeople involves choosing your name and a password. IT IS NOT A BIG DEAL.

Lizzie – welcome! Tell me about Roku. I was under the impression that I had to buy a cable package to be able to use a DVR or Tivo. Is that not true? I’d drop Dish in a heartbeat if I could find a DVR that works separately.

Rosey – since your legs are paralyzed, how are you able to navigate the water? I think it’s a great idea for you and Steve to do this together!

Bobbi – I haven’t changed my ticker in well over a year, so if I ever do, I’ll have to ask you for re-instruction! And I think you’re amazing with all the innovative recipes you develop!

KarenFL – sorry you’re sniffly. I was thinking about you this a.m. Is the AFib still under control?

Cajun – hope the weather cooperates for you!

CK – ready for your birthday tomorrow?

I’m just pooping around today. I do love days off! I tried to watch the speech and aftermath last night that I'd taped and totally could not stomach the grandstanding, self aggrandizement, smugness, arrogance, and pomposity of the reviewers. I’m sick to death of all of this, over and over and over again! So, I have a couple of movies on the DVR, and I might indulge. I do love days off!!

Everyone, have a good Wednesday!!

Are there more parents moving in with their kids -- or is it the other way around, with kids moving back to live with mom and dad. I've done it both ways.

My mother had Alzheimer's Disease and none of my brothers (4) wanted to move her into a nursing home. So she ended up moving in with me. It actually worked out very well - I have an elderly friend who used to drive a van for handicapped adults. She was no longer doing that, so we hired her to take care of my mom becuase physically, at the time, my mother was doing okay. Sold Mom's condo and used leftover money for Shirley's salary. She was like a god-send as she knew CPR and she and my mother hit it off great. Shirley would arrive before I went to work, and stayed until I came home. She was happy because she had recently lost her husband and felt alone. So Mom, Shirley and I were very happy. Sadly a year and a half later Mom was diagosed with lung cancer.

A few years ago, my daughter moved back in with me for about six months or so.

Between the two situations -- having Mom was easier and less stressful!!
