My birds have gourmet taste buds, excellent judges of fine foods. They wouldn't touch the gingerbread cake, I even tried to entice them with blueberries sprinkled on top. The crows won't touch it either. I think I'll cut it into chunks, paint a bulls eye on them and use it for pistol targets.
The 2nd try at gingerbread cake turned out great, I made it into a jelly roll with ff/sf cool whip and powdered sugar sprinkled on top.
Charlie with DH's red kerchief, he loves dragging around our personal belongings. He doesn't chew on it, just likes to have it in his mouth? Maybe I should smear some gingerbread cake on our stuff, then he'd leave it alone.

Hola, All...

Total gork day! Finished a book, am finishing a baby afghan, am petting and cooing at sickly SamCat. Nothing exciting to report.

I'm getting ready to watch the DVR of the Oscar Red Carpet. I love being able to fast forward through commercials and Ryan Seascrist... and I won't watch the show, because I don't care and because I cannot, cannot, cannot, understand why Billy Crystal, Will Ferrell, or Ben Stiller get paid for anything!

Bobbi - your gingerbread roll looks delish!! And Charlie has true character, yes? Yes.

Everyone, have a lovely!

Hi Girls. Just a quick run through before I go to bed or at least pretend I'm going. The kitchen renovations are going slowly. I can't find knobs and pulls that I like. Today we went to Kent (hardware) and brought home what I thought would look very nice but when I got them home they did nothing for the cupboards so back they'll go next week. The cupboards are painted and the doors are all rehung including that awful corner door with the piano hinge. I can't find the backsplash or flooring I wanted and will have to travel to St. John's, a five hour drive, to find anything at all. Tomorrow we're having someone come in to give us a price on the counter top and installation. He installed a small set of kitchen cupboards for us in the basement apartment about a year ago and we liked his work so hopefully that will be done soon if he can fit that in his schedule.

Bobbi, I did take "before" pictures (which turned out blurry!) and DH was clicking away on Friday taking progress pictures. Oh, and your gingerbread is just like the one I made last year at DS's place when I was babysitting Boo. My DIL was really anticipating the gingerbread but when she took a bite she spit it out just as fast as she had bitten it. I had actually looked for a recipe that used black strap molasses but it is certainly an acquired taste. I had to throw out the cake. Your story made me chuckle as I was thinking of my own adventures with the BS molasses.

I'm not doing so well with the weight since we've been doing the kitchen. Partly because I couldn't find half the stuff I needed to cook and half because I'm so tired I haven't been on my bike. Hopefully, I'll get back on the bike this week.

Have a good night.

Bobbi - Charlie loves you, that's why he likes your stuff! It smells like you! My dog drags my shoes out of the bedroom into the hallway when I'm going to be going into the hospital. He knows before I do. I know it sounds weird, but this has happened the past 3 times I had to go to the hospital. It's usually two or three pairs that I kick off under the chair in my room. We have pictures of them out in the hallway. One time they were lined up down the hall, as if I were walking. Another time they were all up against the wall, lined up in MATCHING PAIRS. The first time this happened, DH thought we had a ghost. A couple nights later he woke up and heard a noise. He raised up to see Pupper pulling a shoe out from under the chair and dragging it out into the hallway. Each time, within a week, I'm hospitalized for one thing or another. It didn't happen with this latest surgery that was scheduled in advance, but with the past 3 hospitalizations that were trips to the ER. Heart surgery, pneumonia, and colostomy. Coincidence?

OK, so Yo Yo it is! I can't believe that the doctor took your serious and tested you for bi-polar! When I was at the doctor this week I was telling him about the pain I've been having in the tendons of my arms. I told him it didn't hurt as bad that day because the day before was spent at the casino and you don't use yours arms much there. You just need 1 finger to keep pushing the little button on the machine. He chuckled. I didn't win one red cent!

Hello tonight! Seems like it was a busy day all day long. We went to church this morning and then met the family at Golden Coral for lunch. Didn't get back home until about 2:00 this afternoon and then went over to unpack the 5th wheel rv. The people who bought it are coming to pick it up on Tuesday. So that was about 3 hours over there. We went ahead and bought plastic totes for the stuff we use there. We will be looking for a nice diesel motor home if we can find one that is priced reasonable.

I talked to my brother and asked him to set up our home inspection for Monday or Wednesday so we can get that out of the way and that has to be done before the 1st. I'm glad that Tim can do that without having to pay someone to do it. Still haven't heard when the apprasial will be happening. They have 11 days to get that done. If not we will stay here. I'm getting antsy though so I may start trying to go through some stuff and either pack it or pitch it. Gosh,we still have stuff in boxes that we moved here from Colorado 3 years ago!! Guess I should go through some of that and maybe consolidate... but then a lot of it is photos that I "plan" to do something with "someday"!

I hope everyone has had a WONDERFUL weekend. Y'all take care and I'll catch you all later.

Happy Sunday everyone! Hope you've had a good weekend. After church we went to a Mexican restaurant...new to us...but it wasn't very good. The prices were good but the food and the service wasn't. So we won't be going back. I didn't hold back due to diet but since the food wasn't great I only ate one beef taco and most of my beans and about half the rice. I did eat several chips and salsa even though even they weren't very good. I even left about a 1/4 of my ice cream dessert! But we did each get our own not realizing how big it would be. Dh could only eat about 1/2 or even less so he asked for a container and took it home! LOL first time we ever took ice cream home. I put mine in with his but I hope he eats it. Dh couldn't stand to waste food so he also brought home both our leftovers. I told him he can eat it, I don't want it. All I've had since then (several hours now) is a PB mocha. I don't count calories on Sunday, just kinda try to watch my carbs. I've had plenty but don't think I'm over, just hasn't been a very healthy eating day.

Slmn11 - Interesting about your dog and your shoes! Sorry you've had so many hospital visits recently though..

Retiredone - Gosh, seems like lots of us are fixing up houses! I always think it's going to be fun but then it gets to be a hassle as one problem leads to another.

Marie - That's funny about yo-yoing (or being a yo-yo! ) I guess I qualify too. I haven't read the latest medical thoughts on that but I've always figured that if I'm at least trying I'll be better than if I just forget it all and let myself get fatter. (I'm STILL fat so I say fat-ter). I've often read that gaining too much too fast is hard on the organs and dieting too drastically or fasting (probably too prolonged or too often, but I don't know) can cause gallstones, but then obesity itself can cause gallstones too.

Rie - Your adrenal glands still produce hormones, and some women get enough that way. My hot flashes seem to be lessening a bit since I'm not taking much Estroven, but it's really too soon to tell how I'll be when I stop taking it completely. Probably not necessary to wean myself off but that's just how I do things. LOL

Marie - You asked about HRT and sleep. I slept better when I was on HRT. I still had the rush of the hot flash but it wasn't bad and no heat. The bad ones only started after I stopped taking HRT. I'm sleeping better now that I've greatly decreased the herbal remedies though than I was. But as I said it's really probably too soon to know for sure whether I'm doing the right thing. I suspect I am. I think I took both the HRT too long and it plus the herbal remedies sorta caused the symptoms to rebound, but I may just be nuts too! I still don't feel "normal" but I hope I get there one of these days...

ETA: Sometimes I wonder if I'd be over all this if I'd just gone off the HRT without adding the herbal supplement. Maybe it would have been bad for a while but then gone away. Maybe I just complicated things by starting the herbal supplement. I'll never know (sigh).

Got to talk to my oldest son today. It was nice to talk to him as he has bad service where he lives and we seldom talk.

Good morning GG’s,

Weekend over ~ why does it always seem to go by so quickly? Back to work. 4 days before the next day off. Gonna be a busy couple weeks at home. A flurry of trying to spiff up and straighten up the place for company. Our house is like CK’s mom says a house should be ~ clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy. But what feels ok to us might not be ok for our visitors. A lot slides by sometimes because it seems there are never enough hours in the day.

FIL and his wife will be here over a long weekend. Then also, my youngest daughter, her husband and grandbaby Evie are coming. It will be like a mini family reunion. It will be good to see everyone.

I’m sorry ~ I keep intending to get to the personals, but again, keep running out of time.

I aim to get stuff done on my days off, but things never go as planned. But that is ok ~ it is well worth it. It is time spent with kids and grandkids and I wouldn’t trade that for anything. Of course there are times when there is something for work that I am required to do and then I give up that precious time, but not feeling happy about it. Oh well.

I also have let slide the posting here/tracking of my eating. I do pretty good even without that on my work days. The days off are the problem, I need to work on that. Also need to get back to the walking.

When I went for physical therapy ~ the building it was in, I noticed they had an indoor walking track (unfortunately no discount to use it for hospital employees). I wish the Y had one. I asked about that and they said that there are all these nice walking paths outside to use. All well and good until we have some of the cold weather or the blistering heat and humid weather. What were they thinking?

Ok, guess I’d better get going ~ get dressed and head out soon.

Hope you all have a nice day.

Take care

Good Morning GG's,

Worked all weekend and come back here to check on what my friends were up to. Looks like you're all been busy too. Lots of posts. I've read them all but there's no way I can answer all of them. DGD's birthday is tomorrow. She had a BD party at her other grandma's this weekend, so I'll make cupcakes and we'll do a mini-party here today. And we have lots of girlscout cookies to deliver. She really wanted to come to the hospital and deliver the ones there, but she wasn't feeling well this weekend. Just a cold, but with her asthma she didn't sound so good, so I didn't think that was a good idea. When I delivered the cookies I got several other orders from people that I didn't see when I was selling them. So, hopefully, she will be able to deliver this sale. The sun is shining, but it's cold outside. Someone asked if we got the storm that was prodicted for this area. No, didn't happen. Just a little snow fall. Not great for the skiing, but traveling is good. Tomorrow is the Dr. appointment to discuss all the labs that were taken, plus the bone scan. The Dr. called and said I had beginning ostpporosis and called in a script of Fosomax for me. Not sure if I want to start that. Does anyone here take it? I've hear a few bad things about it.

Talk to you tomorrow,

Freda

Good morning GG's,

I've had a busy weekend casing windows in my house, and the time went by way too fast. I've really kicked up the exercise and have been watching what I eat but the scale won't budge. After speaking to some people and doing my own research, I'm convinced my hormones are out of whack. Last week I went to a Hormone Center and have sent in bloodwork and saliva samples for testing. This place custom compounds hormones based on the lab results, and I can't wait till the process is complete and I can start using them. Supposedly it gives you energy back, you can lose weight easier, and it improves the "foggy thinking" that has only come about since menopause.

If anyone has had experience with bio identical hormones, I'd love to hear from you.

Have a great week!

Andi

Hi Golden Girls-
I caught darn husbands cold and I've been miserably sick all week. Very nasty coughing, no voice, no sleep thing. I was worried that my DSs might have caught it because I saw them both after dh got cold but before I came down with symptoms but they remain healthy. Luckily for them they don't live with us anymore. I really thought all my vitamins and handwashing were going to save me. But eventually it got me - bad. I'm behind on the posts but wanted to say a couple of things.
Andi- I'm on BHRT. It definitely has helped me in many ways and I don't ever want to give them up but...It did not cure weight gain, faulty memory or lack of energy. It has helped my mood, my fibromyalgia pain and probably the other things - and that's A LOT. Especially my mood. I think my youngest DS moving far away would have been much more difficult for me to deal with. But I'm still not like I was in my twenties and thirties. Still have to work very hard at losing weight and I just don't have the energy. (But I've had this miserable cold so that is probably effecting my viewpoint at the moment.)My doctor is very conservative and I probably could stand to be on a little more estrogen. I will discuss it with him soon. I do highly recommend it. I just remember that when I finally started taking meds for my hypo thyroid I thought. "Aha! That's the problem. Now the weight will just start falling off me!" and then when I started the estrogen and progesterone I thought the same. Nope. Still have to diet and exersize. So while it helps in so many ways - don't slack off on your diet and exercise.
Marie - I totally sympathized with your colonoscopy - that prep - nasty. And then you have to teach the anestesiologist about what to do with allergic patients (quite common allergies) and deal with his patronizing bull poopy. And they get the big bucks. I hope your surgery fixes you right up in a timely manner.
Sorry to whine about my cold. This too shall pass. I just wish I had a wife to make me home made chicken soup.
