Hey GGs,
Not much going on with me today. It was rainy & dreary all morning, but the sun’s starting to come out now Yay! But, I have no plans to leave the house until tomorrow. Uh oh, I just heard SO commenting on the sun being out, & how pretty it’s getting - might be going somewhere after all.

Rosey, I’m so glad you have people checking in on you. Are you really missing your DH, or enjoying the solitude? Congrats on your NSV, but be careful. You do seem to be almost "flying away" these days.

Rie, I do appreciate having my mom around, & wonder what I’d do without her. But, she’s only 72, & pretty healthy, so I try not to think about it. I guess you’re at your tournament? Good luck!

Hi WebWoman (Darcy, right?). I’m like that about cleaning before I let anyone come in to do any work. I once put off getting my washer fixed for about a month, because I didn’t want the repairman see how dirty it was behind it.

Freda, I’m glad you’re feeling better. I wish you lived nearby so we could go shopping together. I’d love to have another bargain hunter as a shopping buddy. I wish I didn’t like butter - I love it! I have such a hard time convincing myself to use light margarine. I hope you have a good weekend at work.

Carol Sue, good for you on keeping DH on “floor duty”. Maybe, like Marie said, he likes helping out?

Donna, I’m glad the vinegar seems to be helping you. I’d have a hard time dealing with the taste. Do you suppose the liquid from bread & butter pickles would work? That’s vinegar, isn’t it?

Marie, that’s sort of what I was thinking about the slippers. But, then I wouldn’t have “new” ones next year. Haven’t made up my mind yet. I’m hoping things go better than expected with your DIL tomorrow (people can change, right?!). I know, I’m a bit of a “Pollyanna”, but still, I’m thinking good thoughts for your meeting with her.

Mary, it’s nice that your DH is noticing you’re getting smaller. And, like I’ve said before, I too think slower is better with the weight loss. But the idea of changing how you’re eating, when it’s working for you, is pretty scary. This eating thing is just really hard to figure out! Glad you finally got your son’s check!

Chickadeee, nice to “see” you! Great pic.

Well, SO hasn’t mentioned going anywhere, but he seems to think he needs something to eat. It is about an hour later than we usually eat dinner, so……. Guess I’d better feed him, & me!

Unhappy Plateau

Plateau has hit.
It's to be expected, I guess....my first of many along the way.
I'm at the same weight for almost a week.
But it's OK...and one of these days I'll drop again!

Setting my eyes on the goal, and not looking back!

(almost 30 pounds gone in 2 months is a great thing!)

Good morning GG's,

Yippee ~ off today. Would have been off the whole weekend, but swapped Sun for Mon with another lady because I have jury duty on Monday. I hope when I call ~ they won't need me ~ not exactly how I want to spend my so few precious days off.

Have been visiting here, but family stuff hasn't left much time to do more than read the posts.

Knees are a little better. (I want to try Donna's vinegar thing and see if that will help ~ willing to try most anything to help that pain.) I came across some graduated compression socks at Walmart (while looking for some other kind of sock). Thought I would try them and see if they would help my legs feel better. So, I thought maybe part of my achy legs might be due to impaired circulation. I had tried support hose and knee hi ones, but promptly put my finger through them the first time I put them on. They are too pricey to fork out that kind of money for a new pair every day. These compression socks are thicker and look more sturdy than the support hose. I wore them yesterday and didn't have as much aching as I did without them.

We will go today and get signed up at the Y. They will help us get our information entered into the machines ~ I think the weight ones, so that when you go back, you enter in your name, and it tells you how much weights to put on and how many repetitions. And I think they spend some time with you to help you learn how to use the equipment ~ like the bikes and treadmills. I am thinking maybe if I can get out of work on time, I can stop on my way home and use the bike. Then on my day off ~ do the water walking in the pool.

I have been better about the eating (driven by wanting to lose this weight and hopefully make my pain less). NSV ~ I have not given in to those doughnuts (pain in a box) or the left over halloween candy (bucket of pain) that someone so kindly brought to share.

Guess I'd better get rolling ~ laundry calls.

Hope you all are having a good weekend.

Take care

Good Morning, got Bruce off yesterday afternoon for opening deer hunting today. Rosey, it's really windy and raw out there today, hope your hubby has lost of warm clothes with. Of course he's way up in Northern Minnesota and we're Southern Mn. Could be nice up there for all I know. I'll be back later to read all the post, right now I have to get a dessert in the oven for my SIL birthday this afternoon. I'm making a squash cake, made it for DH last week to try out the recipe. He loved it. It cooked butternut squash with pumpkin pie spices, sprinkle dry yellow cake mix over the top and drizzle with melted butter. It's really delicious but more like a pumpkin bar than a cake. I'm staying away from it, will leave all the left-overs at their house. The recipe below was rated 5 star but some reviewers used 2 cups of water/2 boullon cubes, then thickened the broth the last half hour in the crock pot for sauce. Serve over pasta, rice or couscous. This is something we can all make, cutting more calories by using butter spray to brown it.

Slow Cooker Lemon Garlic Chicken II
Prep Time:
15 Min Cook Time:
3 Hrs 15 Min Ready In:
3 Hrs 30 Min
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 pounds skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup water
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules
1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley
Directions

In a bowl, mix the oregano, salt, and pepper. Rub the mixture into chicken. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Brown chicken in butter for 3 to 5 minutes on each side. Place chicken in a slow cooker.
In the same skillet, mix the water, lemon juice, garlic, and bouillon. Bring the mixture to boil. Pour over the chicken in the slow cooker.
Cover, and cook on High for 3 hours, or Low for 6 hours. Add the parsley to the slow cooker 15 to 30 minutes before the end of the cook time.

Marie - DH is very helpful. He retired 8 years before I did, and at that time he started doing housework. I was very lucky. I am still in charge of the detail work. He will not dust and he sometimes puts things away wrong and doesn't remember where he put them and I can't find them for a while. But I won't complain, because he's really helping more than a lot of men would. Yesterday, I was cleaning my china closet. Those dishes are only used on holidays so with Thanksgiving coming up, I took everything out and washed it all. Without being asked, he cleaned the inside of the china closet and the glass doors, etc. He had it all ready for me to put everything back in. I do not have a dishwasher, so that meant hand washing everything.

He loves to go to the casinos, a little too much, IMO. Sometimes I think he does these things so I will feel compelled to say Yes to a casino run a little more often. I don't care what his reason is for doing it....he does it and I'm grateful.

My step daughter and her husband really live from paycheck to paycheck, and sometimes don't make it. We, and other family members have helped them out often, but they are very careless with their money and we want them to shape up, so we're letting them struggle. Recently, she noticed that she could get online with her cell phone. She started going into facebook, not realized that her phone plan did not include this service. She got her phone bill this month and it's over $500. Yikes! They didn't need this right now. I really feel bad for her and could probably help her out with it, but we want them to realized that things like this happen and you have to be careful what you're doing. We are not always going to be here to bail them out. They have been married for 19 years and should have their act together by now. But, I'm feeling guilty knowing I could make it all go away. I guess we will let it go for now, and maybe they will get through this on their own. If they really get stuck, then we can help them.

I am returned from Vermont, the land of maple syrup and mountains. Really lovely scenery. Really labor-intensive days, and rather difficult to maintain my dieting regime, as we were staying at a resort famous for its cuisine. Ah, the trials I must face in order to earn a living these days!

I'm trying to catch up on all the posts - next to impossible, I fear. Sounds like everyone is tooting right along, though.

Pretty tired, but have been cleaning this morning as my eldest daughter is coming to stay overnight tonight and my other girls are coming over for a good old fashioned "hen party". Dh ventured to say that it was a hen - and chicks - party, and I had to remind him that my eldest two daughters are in their early 40's, and the younger one is moving right along in her thirties...surely qualify as "hens", themselves, since each has a little litter of chicks of their own now.

So, I'm trying to whip this place into shape...dh may be retired and have a flexible schedule and all, but his housekeeping leaves a good deal to be desired. I tend to get a little cranky over it, to tell the truth.

Hope everyone has a good weekend...I'll get to some personals when life settles down some.

Sayonara,

Z

Forgot to own up my meals yesterday, I'm not proud of it. DH was gone and I made a batch of butternut squash soup to live on for the week-end. My calories are again too low, not good. I'll make up for it today at birthday party with the wrong kinds of calories.

Quote:
Friday’s Keep me Accountable menu 822 calories + 42 grams fiber
Calories way too low but didn’t have time to eat today.
Breakfast - Fiber One, raspberry yogurt and candied ginger
Lunch- baked squash & apple fried in butter

Supper- Squash soup with curry
Grilled cheese on low cal bread
Mixed Berry Dessert with sf cool whip/Fiber One topping

Snack - sunflower seeds

OK, just curious, of those that have SO's, do they know your weight?

Mine happened to see the number today, and I have to admit (at least to you guys) that I was embarassed. Not that I pretend to be anything but what I am, but I just don't discuss my weight with him. But he knows I am on SB, and really sticking to it.

Hi Chickadee, good to hear from you. I have a SO of about 5 1/2 years, and I don't think he knows my weight...but if he asked, I'd tell him. He knows that I've been slowly losing for a long time and has been sweet and cooking Low fat meals that fit my plan. Since he's a much better cook than I, how can I refuse!

Does your SO cook?

Hope you are all having a nice Saturday! Nothing much happening around here.
Very quiet. The good news is that my weight is continuing to drop. When will I ever get over this fear that it will stop or that I'll gain it back?!! Guess maybe the fear is kinda good though as it keeps me being careful. I did branch out a bit recently to eating some things I haven't eaten in about 7+ weeks (sorry I think I said 11 on the other thread but I was wrong)...I had a slice of bread, some mayo (in a tuna salad), a few crackers and a fun-size Snickers. But I constantly feel aware that I have to be careful. I continue to eat high fiber, high protein and lower carb. My carb has been a little higher than it was when I was strickly on Medifast but still lower than I was eating before and is within the range my diabetic diatician (can't remember how to spell it!) said is ok for weightloss.

Chick - Yes, my dh knows my weight...I tell him most mornings after I weigh. After all our years (going on 50) we've been together we don't have many secrets. I talk about the subject quite a lot, he's probably tired of hearing about it! Today he said, you are catching up with me! He means I am getting near his weight finally...he is also trying to lose...he is now 147.6 and is trying to get to 145. One of the reasons (besides so many others!) I want to lose weight is so I won't be heavier than him!

Zoe - I would love to see that country in the east! That was one of the trips i was hoping we would do in our RV but doesn't look like we will now. A girl party (hens or chicks) with your dds sounds like such fun! Enjoy!

Slmn - Oh, too bad about your step dd and her dh...that bill will hurt! Hope it teaches them to be more careful, but i know is hard for you to have to watch. Sounds like you have a good man! My dh doesn't go to casinos...none really close by and even when we go to Vegas or someplace, he's not very interested), but he does buy 1-2 lottery tickets a week. He spends his allowance so it's his money to do what he wants with it. My dh is helpful but we are pretty traditional in that he takes care of the car, and repairs to the house and the yard and I am responsible for the inside and finances. However we do help each other out at times when one can't do something or is overloaded for some reasons.

Bobbi - Thanks for the recipe. Your squash cake sounds wonderful too! My mom used to make a great squash pie. I don't know why...maybe because she grew squash? or may be pumpkin was too expensive but we always had squash pie instead of pumpkin pie.

Glynne - Glad the compression stockings are helpful. I'd be a little concerned about knee highs though. Glad you are getting started at the Y. You mentioned losing weight to hopefully lessen pain...I think I do have less pain since I dropped some weight. Also because it has lowered my bs, I also have less problems with neuropathy. GFY on avoiding the doughnuts and candy!!

Change - Oh the dreaded plateau!! I'm scared that any day I'll get there..
But 30# in two months! Wow! That's amazing! It has taken me about 7 1/2 weeks to lose 18.

Nancy - Yes we got our check but he did not have an address on the check so now a hold has been placed on it and we can't use it until next Thursday! They want to be sure it doesn't bounce. I understand the banks decision but do wish he would be more careful.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Hey GGs,
Well I’m a very full (stuffed really), contented person right now. Just got home from my weekly pig-out meal, & boy did I ever! Might regret it later, though. My weight’s still hanging in there at 141 or 142 (haven’t seen that 138 on the scales since 2 weeks ago), so I guess I’m ok.

Zoe, glad to see you're home!

Chickadeee, when I was younger, & much heavier, I tried to keep my weight a secret, from my SOs & everyone, except when I’d lose a large amount. But, with my present SO, I haven’t seemed to care too much about him knowing it, except when it started getting above 230. Now, of course, I broadcast it to pretty much everyone!

Mary, sorry about your son’s check. I hope you’ll get the money ok!

Well, I’m not going to stay. I’m going to go curl up with my book, & let this food settle. Don’t forget to set your clocks back tonight. Yay, an extra hour of sleep! And have a good one everyone!
