Good Morning, All…
Very bright and sparkly this morning. We’re still getting some afternoon showers most days, so that makes it nice.

Bobbi – sounds like the reunion was a good one! I’m sure you did your DH proud! And my drinks of destruction in my besotted and wasted youth were hard… scotch, bourbon, anything I could get my hands on. I was never much of a wine drinker. It’s been 30 years now since I cleaned up my act… and that statement just boggles my mind! OMG, the color test is accurate for me! Yellow and green, either is so true! That was interesting.

Rosey – I hope your DH is feeling better soon! It sounds like you’re so much enjoying those two new pups! I’m glad Daisy is so tolerant. She knows she’s her mommy’s favorite!

Mary – you mentioned buying candles… I saw a blurb that Prince William’s new bride, Kate, (a close personal friend) spent $15,000 on candles because their apartment in Kensington Palace smelled musty… Somehow, I doubt she bought Glade! I didn’t know that overcooking cabbage makes it stinky; I’ve never had a problem when I cook cabbage, which I do a LOT… and maybe that’s why!

MKaren – oh, that’s true! Anything homemade, eaten on Sunday, is calorie free. That also applies to eating out if it’s with someone you haven’t seen in 3 months or more! True, ladies… true!

Lynn – I’m still confused, I think: “From Urban Dictionary - A male displaying perceived feminine characteristics through actions which cause his peers to think less of him. Being a big girls blouse is much worse than being just a girls blouse, thus it's highly insulting nature. Also used to force a man to do something they fear through peer pressure.” I did find this link which, at least, is kind of fun: http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-big3.htm. And this is why I enjoy KoalaLou’s posts so much!!

PT/Zoe – sounds like a lot of salt in your dinner last night, which might account for the >1#. Isn’t this weight nonsense just, um, like, TEDIOUS????????

Have any of you read the Sara Paretsky books, about private eye V.I. Warshawski? They’re pretty decent, too, a good mystery. The one thing I like is that the author has aged her main character. The one I’m reading now, Guardian Angel, (written in 1992…. how did I miss it??) has her at age 39; the last one I read had aged her to 50. I visualize her as a younger Kathleen Turner.

Of to do… something. Any breaking news, I’ll let you know! Otherwise, have a lovely one, lovelies!

Just got home from another treatment and don't have time to gab. Weeds are calling me.
Karen...I wore 2" heels the last 10 years of work. I quit my manager job and went to work part time in a nice clothing store. (mostly to get the discount )
For church/dress I always wear 3 inch or more and I'm used to it.

OMG!! Bobbi! I haven't work heals in ---I don't know how long! I think that I would have to wear them around the house for awhile just to get used to walking in them again!! WOW!! Enjoy your evening!! Have Bruce take a picture so we can see how beauutiful you are!! In fact, you need to have someone take a picture of the both of you!! Have fun!!
I'll catch ya all tomorrow.

Koala, I want a TimTam. Sounds awesome. Thanks for the big girl blouse definition. I think I'm going to use it.

So Donna, my binge fun/shopping/eating with my DIL yesterday was nearly colorie free. I'd seen her in less than 3 months but other than red robin, the rest of the food was homemade. Yeah for that tidbit. I'll add it to the broken cookie lets all the calories leak out.

Leave you all for a weekend and I'm too far behind for personals. Plus you all probably like having a break from long posts. I had a nice weekend. Saturday I was a little out of sorts and didn't do much. I did, however, play with my dogs. Yesterday was DIL's 24th b-day and we headed over the mountain and shopped. We ate out too. DGD was incredible and happy. She'll be 6 months soon. I have a bit of work so that is it for now. BTW, I did read everyone's post so here's a comprehensive HI to everyone.

We had a REALLY nice book (and all things) discussion. Decided on our August book – The Appointment by Herta Mueller.

Hi Zoe,

My 2 cents – I do not believe that eating low calorie slows down your metabolism. However, I do believe that going too many hours between meals does. Before I came to 3FC, I was on the 3-hour diet – eat small amounts of food every three hours. I try to NOT go longer than 4 hours between feedings. NOTE: a feeding might be a cheese stick or a SF/FF pudding.

Hi Donna,

I was a VERY, VERY, VERY dry vodka martini drinker. Three were NEVER enough & I got to the point where I would have the same drunk conversations over and over. My DH and I quit at the same time. I was afraid I wasn’t going to like him sober – we had always gotten drunk together. Turned out we liked each other much more & had a lot more fun.

Hi Bobbi,

I hope the treatments are working for you. I used to get migraines & I HATE that you have them so often.

Hi Marie,

I know what you mean. When I can, I check in a couple of times/day so that I can keep up with the personals.

Hi everyone! We overslept and didn't get to the stretch class but we did go to the gym and worked out on the machines. It's a cooler day today...rained in the night, but it smells good after the rain and it's pleasant. After the gym we stopped at a couple stores for some things we needed...got free eggs at Target because they have upgraded their store to be a whole grocery rather than just some grocery. Rested after I got home and did a little online shopping, then cleaned the bathrooms and our bedroom. Haven't vacuumed yet though as stopped for lunch.

This week I gained .4# I knew I wouldn't lose but was hoping not to gain but still that's not bad for only really being OP two days. So far today I'm ok with my mini meals....breakfast was 1/2 can Slim-Fast, snack after gym was the other 1/2, lunch was 1 cup a turkey noodle canned thing (too much sodium!) and 5 radishes from the garden. Not sure what afternoon snack with me but I'm yearning for a mocha so maybe that'll be it. Dinner is Grilled Salmon, Rescued Rice (just rice cooked in a vegetable broth with garlic and bay leaf) and grilled zucchini from our garden. Dh doesn't know he's grilling yet but he is. We don't let the zucchini get large as we like to use them for grilling and stir-fries.

Lynn - That's good to hear about eating more often. That's what I really like about the way I'm eating now. I eat often, rarely feel very hungry. I'm not eating as low cal as Zoe however, as I let myself eat as much as my calorie limit and carb limit will allow. At first I was more strict and didn't get over 1000 but now I'm pretty much back to what I have always aimed for...no more than 1500 but it's just easier with this way of eating since i don't eat much during the day. If I ever get below 160 I will drop down to 1400.

Marie - Didn't know that about broken cookies!! I'm definitely going to remember that!

Jess - Well I didn't buy quite as many as Kate and yes, mine were Glade...if she did buy Glade that would buy an awful lot of candles! But you're right she probably didn't. I don't know about Kensington Castle but I've toured the public parts of Winsor Castle and I guess it could hold a LOT of candles! Can you imagine living in a castle?!! It must cost the taxpayers an awful lot to heat! Yes I like Sara Paretsky books, about private eye V.I. Warshawski too. I don't remember the one you mentioned, will check it out.

Karen31 - No calories on Sunday?!! Another one I'll definitely remember! We usually go out to eat on Sundays! When we stay at the RV resorts, they usually have an ice cream social on Sundays too.

I better get to work...so Hi to those I missed, can't keep up with all the personals...have a good evening!

Hello GGs

Lynn - I'm not a nurse, but speaking as a gallbladder/reflux sufferer, I agree that gallbladder and reflux tend to cope better with low fat foods. I also had to cut back on chilli hot spicy foods - I go for tasty curry flavours, but not much hot chilli these days - that said, I used to think chilli was good only if my eyes watered, my nose ran and my ears gurgled I can't handle much dairy - but I also have dairy intolerance, so not sure if that's also reflux related. Although, a few teaspoons of yoghurt may help if your tummy is unsettled. Also, I find I have a more comfortable night's sleep if I eat dinner quite early, and big servings are really hard on my tum. I found a good remedy if I have a rumbly tummy is a little cloudy apple juice mixed with soda water. It will probably be a bit of trial and error while you work out what suits you best.

Gayle - sorry to hear you are not happy with your haircut, although I'm sure it doesn't look as bad as you say! My theory is that hair grows more quickly in the hot weather, hope that works for you.

Donna - hope you and SamCat survived another day of heat. I agree about being an addictive person - for me it's sugar, including in the odd glass of wine oops. What can I say ... I'm a work in progress Still having 'puter problems? Very annoying. Thanks for clarifying GORD/GERD spelling. As they say, we are two great nations divided by the English language

Bobbi - nice to hear you enoyed the reunion and good job on being restrained in your food/drink choices. Very interesting about colours and personality, I'll have to google the tests - I kept changing my fave colour to suit the description that I *thought* best suited me!

Freda - I didn't realise it would be so tricky to explain about when you would say "big girl's blouse"! We use it more as a gentle joke/tease comment to someone we know well, rather than an insult. You might tell a bloke who is reluctant to go to the doctor to stop being a big girl's blouse. Does that explain it a bit better? The "world wide words" site Donna found is pretty much how we use the saying. And I was so excited to see the "Big Girl's Blouse" DVD - I remember when that programme was on the teev - very Aussie humour!

Rosey - love your new avatar of Gizmo sound asleep - too cute! Sounds like a lovely Sunday - puppies crawling all over you and enjoying a mocha while reading the paper! Poor DH - he's been suffering for a while now, I hope the specialist finds the cause of his pain.

Mary - LOL at the recipe called "Kiss my bass"! You must have a lovely well cared for home with both you and DH being so consistent with the upkeep.

Mustang Karen - I like your thinking with the no calories in food on a Sunday - works for me

Z - yay for the 3 pounds gone to the beach - or wherever you decided you liked to think of your pounds residing when they depart from you! Don't worry about the 1 pound, it's just not ready to leave its friends yet. I'm sure a party of them are getting ready for their move far far away from your bod.

Marie - no really, there are some things you don't need to experience, and TimTams is one of them Sounds like you had a lovely day with your DIL and DGD!

Toodles!

Good Morning GG's

We're getting a little break from the heat today. Sun is coming out, a cool breeze is blowing in the window. And my flowers are finally starting to bloom. I planted some morning glories and I saw the first blooms this morning. And my hibiscus are finally popping open. I have to report that I have been on a downhill roll the last few days. I haven't felt good, not bad, just not myself. My eating is out of hand and my exercise is nonexistant. I have to get on the ball here and pick myself up here. So today is the first day of a new beginning. I weighed myself today (that is rare for me, but I knew I had been messing up) and I was up to 120!!!! OH NO!! That is my panic mode.

Here I am – at work again, and not exactly thrilled at being here, but as Marie was saying, I guess having a job (if you want/need one) is a good thing. I’m looking at less than nine months to go, so we’d better start talking about where we want to think about having our little GG’s gathering if we’re going to have it. Maybe we can chat some about this on FB?
I ate just about 1200 calories (1199 to be as precise as possible) yesterday, and am thinking to stay in that range today. I’m thinking a lot about what you are saying about small, more frequent eating, Mary and Lynn, and I’m not so sure about it for me. In concept, it makes a lot of sense, but I would first have to retrain myself to somehow enjoy “nibbling” at things, so to speak, and I’ve just never done well at nibbling. I like a little substance to whatever I’m eating – something that feels like a meal, you know? Back in the days before I ever stepped on a scale with any degree of trepidation, I really, really loved things like mashed potatoes with gravy, macaroni & cheese, and American chop suey because they had some bulk to them. I still don’t much feel like I’ve eaten if there isn’t at least some bulk to what I’m having. A sf/ff pudding, for example, just isn’t enough. Or a cheese stick. I suppose once you get used to it, it really does keep you leveled out as far as hunger is concerned, but I don’t know if I could manage the “getting used to” part. How did that work for you, Mary? Oh – and thanks for the stir fried cabbage directions. Sounds great. I’ll be planning to buy a head of cabbage when I grocery shop this weekend.
Koala, I’m still chuckling over the “big girl’s blouse”….yes, indeed. Now that you’ve explained it, I understand that it is, in fact, a very apropos tease for someone who’s displaying a bit of cowardice, as in, “Don’t be a big girl’s blouse! Whack that spider with your newspaper!” Have I got it right?
Gayle, that’s one of the reasons that I’m reluctant to have my hair cut shorter – I’ve had some real doozies of haircuts over my lifetime, and my hair does NOT grow fast. I’m usually stuck with the outcome for at least a few months. But again, having a dgd tell you that you’re beautiful goes a long way towards soothing the pain, eh?
I’m contemplating your “no calories on Sunday” rule, MustangK. I must say, I like the sound of it. And I’m pretty sure you – Nancy – said that you lost all the weight pigging out once a week, right? Well, I semi-pigged-out this past Sunday, but if there were no calories involved, all the better for me! I think I may just have to incorporate that into my diet plan. (Sweet potato fries, here I come!)
Glad you had a good weekend, Marie. Sounds fun!
Bobbi, I’m amazed at you & you 3+ inch heels! OMG. You make me feel like I’ve just rolled over and given in to old age. Ah, well. Maybe I have.
PT, tedious isn’t a strong enough word for it! I can’t believe that I’m still gaining and losing at this stage in my life! I thought by now, I’d be well on my way to becoming a skinny old lady. (Of course, I thought I’d be a millionaire by now, too. Goes to show how off my predictions have all been.)
Rosey, I hope your dh is improving…
Hi Freda! The flowers sound lovely! KarenFL, sorry to hear that you're still having so much pain…I hope you see some improvement before long.
Rie/Val…looks like you’re having a great time with dgs. Grandkids are so much fun, aren’t they? Guess there’s a lot to be said for the ultimate child rearing responsibility to be on somebody else’s shoulders. Gives us the latitude we need to just flat out ENJOY those little folks!
Well, duty calls. If I’ve left anyone by the wayside, please don’t take it personally. We’re not exactly at our prime for memory here, after all!
Have a good day, all!

Zoe ~ I echo your thoughts about nibbling. I have read these things about snack suggestions ~ something like 10 almonds ~ geesh ~ 10 nuts isn't gonna take away my hunger.

Good Morning, All…

Quick hello today… I have to get the neighbors’ dogs out to piddle, then pick up Granny/Mom for her CT scan. I also need to call and schedule an interview for another job… after I shower and become squeaky clean and shiny. I have to balls up and call the school job people, too… even part time, I don’t think I want it!

Bobbi – did you get any reunion pictures? I’d love to see you in your LBD!

Marie – did you ever get the b’day plans squared away?

I think it’s wonderful to know about broken cookies, Sundays, and the long-lost reunions… and what happens if you have a broken cookie on a Sunday with a long-lost friend? Do all those no-calorie events carry over to Monday, maybe? You know, if we work it right, we might be able to eat calorie free all week long!!

Mary – all that grilling sounds good! Sometimes my dear, sweet neighbors donate bbq’d chicken to me when they grill. And THAT is why I take their dogs out to piddle whenever they need me!

KoalaLou – hi!

Freda – I hope you’re feeling perkier! It should help to be able to look out and see your pretty new blooms!

KarenFL – I’m worried about you! Are your doctors and the visiting nurses feeling that you’re progressing as you should be? You still seem to be in so much pain! Good thoughts and better prayers are with you!

PT/Zoe – hola, my friend! I liked your comment about our predictions for where we should be at this point in our lives being WAY OFF! I look at my life and say “what happened??????????????”

I’d better get rolling! Everyone, have a lovely!

Hello All

I am having a really good time. The little guys are getting along well (except for the little toddler arguments over cars, etc). I think I am going to be tired by the end of the week.

I did well with eating yesterday. A little splurge at lunch on a small serving of ice cream. We ate at mongolian grill last night where I loaded up on shrimp and veggies, virtually no noodles. That might become a favored take out again!

Tonight I am going to watch the boys so ds and dil can have a grown-up dinner with some college chums. We are going for a ride on an antique train ride today and other adventures.

Forgive me for no personals. thinking of you guys. I will try to get back later.

Koala and Donna, I'm very addictive. Start some and I'm obsessed and addicted to it. DD is a software engineer for the biggest slot machine manufacturer in Reno. Whenever we visit, there's casinos everywhere and the idea of putting my money in them terrifies me. I figure I'd be hooked with the "One more quarter won't hurt" mentality that I have with "one more cookie won't hurt". Thankfully DD isn't allowed to be in many casinos and the ones she is, she can't be by slot machines (she knows the pay tables and it would look so bad to have a programmer win) so we just never go in. I'm safer that way. BTW, if you go into a casino, look at the slot machine (usually bottom right side) and see if it says IGT - if it does, DD might have done some of the programming. She's told me which games are hers but I never remember.

Freda, good job weighing. I took my control back yesterday but the evil scale still scares me.

Karen, hope you feel better.

Zoe, I couldn't do the mini meals. I want some quantity at one sitting. But I am adding a piece of fruit mid morning and my afternoon iced mocha as ways to stop snacking as well as eating regular meals. I need to find that balance again.

Gayle, totally agree 10 almonds isn't going to do anything but make me want 20 more.

Donna, I think you're making the right choice on the PT school job. It sounds too stressful for even a couple days a week. And PT jobs tend to make people stay longer than scheduled. And we did get the doggie care set for next week's trip.

Rie, have a great time on the train. I adore choo-choos.

Hi to everyone I missed. Work is hectic these days.

This morning as DH and I were leaving the house to go doggie walking (before I turned on the headlamp) I looked at the sky and the pretty waning crescent moon was shining and Jupiter was still bright semi close by (it was really close on Sunday at 4:30 am and was a "rare" thing according to the experts). As I was telling DH to look, I saw a shooting star. I rarely see them because I'm scared of tripping over my feet as we walk the rocky roads. Anyway, I saw it and it started my day of on a great foot (so to speak with no tripping).

So as I mentioned above, I took back control of my eating yesterday and am logging everything again. I made an "in my mind" deal that I won't "start" until after we return on August 5th. I figure that's a good day because 3 years ago on August 5th is when I started my journey from my high weight. But in the meantime, I'm going to log everything. Yesterday's calories were as though I really started but I intend to have my no-calorie day on August 3 since I am not dieting on my 50th b-day. I'm not and it's the only monumental b-day that's I've care about since I was 16.

Back to work I must go...

Not much to talk about but thought I'd check in. It's nice here again today. I just finished a load of laundry...have another to do but will do it later on. Otherwise have the daily work done.

Zoe I didn't have an difficulty with mini-meals but that's because I was already a snacker. I like 3 bigger meals but I also like my snacks. Actually snacking at night has always been my downfall. Now I eat very little...it was not hard adjusting my breakfast and lunch down..so just the mini-meals until dinner ..then I have the bigger meal and I allow myself more snacks in the evening. Works for me because that is the way my appetite is...it starts out not so much but grows toward evening. Think about how your appetite is and then make a plan that works with it rather than against it, I think that is key. I still have trouble wanting to eat TOO much in the evening. I allowed myself to go over yesterday but hope to do better from now on. I'd really like to see a loss this week.
