THANK YOU.... for the link, i will take a peek.

Now I'm doing well today, but my daughter dropped off 36 dinner rolls from costo's, and 3 lbs of sweet sausage links and asked me to cook them. My 9 year old grandson has been in the hospital...HES BETTER NOW. She simply needs the time, and I'm retired, so i said yes. I ate 2 dinner rolls, and could probably eat 10 more. SO i have to be real careful this evening. I could binge.

Carbs are not good for me, well i believe white bread carbs are not good for anyone, i must be careful, its a trigger food for me.

Have an awesome evening, Eat Smart, move more, weigh less.

Hello Golden Girls. Happy Monday

I had to testify in court this morning and it went well. I haven't had to do that in a while but we have this new judge..... Oh well.

I got in a pretty intense 40 minute workout today and the knee is a little sore but not bad. I am getting there again! I will be glad to get completely back to my normal routine. Sometimes I have to really push myself to get started but I always feel somehow "stronger" when I am working out regularly.

Thank you so much for the kind words on my picture. It is always nice to put yourself out there and have people behave in a supportive way! I appreciate it.

Hedgehog, Welcome! This is a really great group. I look forward to getting to know you.

Debbie, well, you only ate 2 rolls and are hanging in there tonight. I hope it goes well for you. That white bread stuff is so hard to control.

Nancy, I bet you look adorable in hats! I have an extensive collection but they are all ball caps. Send us a picture of your best one.

Mary, sorry you had another cramp! I hope they pass soon! You busy girl - that RV sounds like a lot of work. Like taking care of another house... LOL

Bobbi, I hope that you find relief from you neck pain. Your flowers and yard must be really lovely. I have been racking my brain about old school methods for keeping rabbits away but the only one I remember is gross! Grandma used to swear that the men in the family needed to go out there and tinkle (her word) around her marigolds! We used to raise malting barley for Budweiser and my dad was forced to spend thousands each year to have the grain cleaned of rabbit poop so we could sell it. We used to tease Dad that he was going to turn into Elmer Fudd. You know, Kill the waaabbbit!

Donna, What a great career history! I went from farmer to social worker and direct to working with delinquents. I am an administrator for a juvenile detention, treatment, and outpatient treatment center. I just kept gravitating back toward the criminal kids. I'm thinking that you understand

I really admire those folks like Gayle, Freda, KarenFl, and others who spend their careers taking care of other folks.

KarenMo, It must be sooooo hard for folks to manage after a disaster like that. I am proud of your community and all the others who show up to help others when the worst happens.

Well, supper is ready and I am taking off tonight to go to a softball game. I hope you all have a lovely evening and sorry for those I missed.

Good evening GG's,

Hope you all have had a good day. Just popping in to say hi

I have to get to bed early ~ mandatory inservice at 7am. Up at 5, leave by 6. I'll take along something for breakfast and eat after the inservice and before my shift begins. There is another one at 3pm, but that is usually a really busy time for me, so I'll go to the early one.

Boy ~ has been hot here the last few days ~ in the low 100's. So thankful for AC.

Another so-so day with the eating. I do pretty good with the food during the day, but fall apart in the evening. I've gotta keep remembering to do like NC Nancy does and (after my regular meal) only eat if I am hungry. Gotta have better self control.

Ok, guess I'd better say night night.

Take care

I finally got all my work done today! So glad as with gc coming tomorrow I want to just relax and enjoy them. These two are almost two (19th) and four and they are a lot of fun! And I always enjoy seeing my dd too although often she is only in and out as she has so many friends to catch up with when she comes home. Only thing left to do is plan my weekly menus ...have it about 1/2 done and shop for groceries tomorrow. They probably won't get here til late afternoon or evening. I'm debating about baking brownies...so afraid I'll end up eating most of them. DD rarely eats sweets, dh is not much for brownies and the little ones can't eat very much. I thought I might make up a batch and freeze half of them...doesn't alway stop me but worth a try. Then if they want more I can thaw them out quickly.

Seems like we are on jobs/careers so I'll add mine. I've babysat and done ironing for moms (as a teenager), worked as a grocery clerk/register clerk/butcher clerk for a small grocery store, after high school, I went to a business school and worked as a receptionist/secretary/sales agent for small insurance agency while going to school and after. (Earned a very small monthly income and didn't even get commissions even though I took the course and got my license! What a dummy I was! Girls are smarter now.), worked in another couple offices as a typist, finally at age 37 went to college, first got my CNA certificate and worked as a home aid giving people hygienic care and doing some treatments, then got my LPN and worked in a convalescent center, while working there I went to school and got my RN and continued to work there until I quit at 52 to retire with my dh. I'm with you Rosey....told my dh I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up but finally I knew..it was retired!! I absolutely love being retired!

Nancy - You look good in hats! So go for it! Sometimes I think I do too but other times I don't. I feel silly in them but secretly (just between us!) I'd really like to wear them. I think I'm getting old enough to get by with most anything anyway, don't you? Time to wear my purple!!

Good monring Everyone,

My DF with Altzheimer's was pretty bad on Sunday. She always loved coffee so I took her to the Dunkin Doughnuts that we used to go to. When we got there, she asked me what she used to order - she had no idea. Got her a cappuchino & she proceeded to tell me that she never liked coffee - is a tea-drinker.

She seems really happy to be with me, but conversations are VERY difficult. Within 5 minutes, she will make 2 contradictory statements. I have learned to just go along with whatever she says - NOT ask questions (questions seem to make her nervous) - and tell her SHORT stories about my life (she cannot follow dialog unless it is short).

Yesterday was my volunteer day at LLS. I was hoping to cut back to one day/week for the summer. However, one of the two-person office leaves on Friday for the summer. The one person who will be left just called to tell me how much she will need me over the summer. Maybe I can do some work from home. I don't mind the volunteer work as much as the commute - an hour each way in city traffic.

My car's GPS went crazy over the weekend - lost all my "previous" addresses and lost my "home" address. Not sure if dealer can fix but I'm taking it in next week. I wonder if Mercury is in Retrograde? I seem to be having a lot of problems with machinery.

I have a new eating plan - eat what I have in my kitchen - purchase ONLY staples (milk, bread, eggs...). When I get to the point that I don't want what's left, toss it. I will keep you posted on how this plan goes.

Have a GREAT day everyone,

Lynn

Good Morning GG's.,

Rosie, great pictures of DGD. I love the idea of a swing in the house. And is that a basketball hoop i see too? We've always done just about what the Grands wanted to do too. And had fun doing it. Great new about the NSV. And more great ones to come!

Mary, I know you'll have fun with those little ones when they get there. Good thing it's warm and you can take them outside a lot. As for the brownies..don't. I do that all the time. Make things for other people or company, knowing that I am the one that is likely to eat them. And I am. If your daughter won't eat them and the babies surely won't they will just tempt you too much.

Gayle, what are you having an In-serve for? Doesn't it seem like we're having and inservice all the time? I am throughly sick of inservices!

Bobbi, Yeah! Finally, an x-ray. I'm interested in finding out what it says.

Debbie, Glad to hear that your DGS is ok. Don't worry about eating the dinner rolls (you didn't eat any more, did you?) and just pick yourself up and move on. We all have certain trigger foods and have to be careful around them.

Rie, How was the softball game? I hope your team won. You worked out for 40 min. and that's not even your goal time? Lordy, lordy, you ladies would be ashamed of me. I try to get in 1/2 hour a day, sometimes 40 min. on a good day. But I do lift weights in addition to that.

Nancy, I hope you get your problem with SD worked out. It's very difficult blending families. But extreamly important too. Take comfort in the fact that she's young and she won't be around forever. In the mean time, pretend she is your bestest friend! Fake it untill you make it.

OK, where are you Z? You know we miss you.

Lynn, we were posting at the same time. You are a angel for taking time to spend with your friend. God Bless You. It's difficult and a lot of times they just get ignored. I've done the "eat our of your pantry and refigerator" several times. It seems I buy up and then forget I have it. And I hate waste!

Freda

Good Morning, All...
Quick check-in....

Brother Bill arrived from blazing AZ yesterday morning. Had dinner with Granny/Mom and most of the sibs yesterday. Noisy! Fun!! I don't know how long he'll be staying... it's good to see him! His wife and son didn't make the trip this time, and we miss them!

Thanks for your sympathetic thoughts, Bobbi, about the heat! So far, June has been decent. We have just about 6 weeks of intolerable-to-me heat, July and August... the rest of the time is okay if I hide out in the basement. It's still really pretty here. Within the next couple of weeks, though, it'll all start to look burned out and dry. The worst thing about summer, worse than the heat, is the ANT problem! I found a dozen or so of them on the kitchen counter last night (sugar ants). I HATE THEM!! Every year! The LawnGods spray at least 3-4 times from March to September. So far, I haven't seen any marching in under the front door! I think it's because we don't have winter anymore. Nothing freezes, so our summer buzzing and crawling are like never before. I would NOT do well in the South!!

Debbie, I think we, as a group, are very sensitive to starchy carbs. I call it the "Carbo Blahs", that terrible feeling of lethargy, with joint pain, upset stomach, and.... CRAVING. The carbs from fruits don't seem to bother much, but the "white" carbs certainly do!

Rosey, will you please take a closer picture of that lovely afghan on your couch? I'd like to duplicate it. Looks like Tyler was having a fine time!!

Nothing exciting. I'm holding steady!

Everyone, have a lovely Tuesday!

Good morning.

I thought I would just fly by and share my adventures last night. Our weather forcast was for thunderstorm watch. I went to the ballpark and the sky turned from hazy to dark and dangerous looking in 10 minutes. They cancelled the games and I headed for my car (with gs) along with everyone. The tornado warning siren went off and it was pandemonium! I worried that I wouldn't be harmed from the storm but one of the crazy drivers would crash into me!

We spent the next couple hours at my folks. There was actually only one funnel cloud in my area but a lot of damage north of me. I was kind of scared, though, as I survived a tornado as a 5yr old child with my grandmother. We were in the middle of nowhere and hid in a ditch when the storm came through. I don't remember much but I know the car was flipped over when we came out. I had a hard time sleeping last night. It makes me sad for the people who have been wiped out by these storms everywhere.

Sorry for the downer. BBL

Good Morning all. Well for the 4th week in a row the scale has not moved, Very discouraging-especially considering that I have been to year end parties and conventions and stayed religiously on plan through all of it-where is the reward?!?!?! I know...blah blah blah...getting stronger...blah blah blah...eating healthy...blah blah blah...life style change...blah blah blah...but these long plateaus, not even half way through the weight loss are what has ALWAYS kicked my feet out from under me before "I'm going out to the garden to eat worms" sulk , sulk, sulk. PLEASE GG's- a little encouragement is DESPERATELY needed.
Otherwise - congrats to all who made good choices, stayed on plan, who got back on plan after a bit of a detour, who exercised, who loved and cared for themselves and each other I wouldn't make it without you all

Good Morning!! I think we could all use a little humor this morning!! Be back later.....

Two informally dressed ladies happened to start up a conversation during an endless wait in the LAX airport.
The first lady was an arrogant California woman married to a wealthy man. The second was a well mannered elderly woman from the South.
When the conversation centered on whether they had any children, the California woman started by saying, "When my first child was born, my husband built a beautiful mansion for me."
The lady from the South commented, "Well, isn't that precious?"
The first woman continued, "When my second child was born, my husband bought me a beautiful Mercedes-Benz."
Again, the lady from the South commented, "Well, isn't that precious?"
The first woman continued boasting, "Then, when my third child was born, my husband bought me this exquisite, diamond bracelet."
Yet again, the Southern lady commented, "Well, isn't that precious?"
The first woman then asked her companion, "What did your husband buy for you when you had your first child?"
"My husband sent me to charm school," declared the Southern lady.
"Charm school?" the first woman cried, "Oh, my God! What on earth for?"
The Southern lady responded, "Well for example, instead of saying, "Who gives a ****?" I learned to say, "Well, isn't that precious?"

Nancy, I totally agree on the thong uncomfy concept compared to flip-flops. A co-worker wears one and swears they are so comfy and I just can't fathom undies like that. BTW, no dye in the water for hummers. They'll be attracted to the feeder. Red dye is bad for them.

Hi Debbie, welcome and good for you to work on better health. What are Kay's protein pretzels??? And you live at one of my favorite places on earth. The Outer Banks just rock!!! (Thanks Nancy for deciphering for me). I love the surf there. We lived in Hampton VA for a few years and the OBX was my favorite day trip. I use LoseIt! app to track my food (calories) and exercise. It's a free app for Iphone and ipod touch. There isn't synching but I don't miss that (I had a diff program that did synching to computer). I love having my "log book" with me at all times.

Karen31, I love your avatar. I'm thinking if the weather actually stays clear here, my solar panels will heat my pool and I, too, will be floating in sparkling blue water this weekend.

Mary, wow the description of your leg cramps (yes, I'm way behind on the thread) was scary. Just an odd thought, you said you were having a hot flash too - could they be related? I hope you find a solution. When I get leg cramps (nothing like what you described) my legs hurt for a couple days.

Karen3, I hope your knee is recovering. Maybe there is something to those horoscopes. And, I have to ask why a bar of soap could possibly help leg cramps. I do get that the bonnie lads would be fun but how would they stop leg cramps???

Rosey, go ahead and uncover. Have you ever really noticed anyone else's body at a pool or the gym? I don't so I finally realized that if I don't pay attention, probably no one else is. Of course, I do tend to notice the hunky guys. But that's different...

A break in the personals as tonic water and quinine has been mentioned loads. My dad has been ill and the drs. have run every test under the sun because his platelets are horribly low. 150,000 per whatever they measure is the low end of normal. His was 66,000 then 30,000 then 20,000. Leukemia was ruled out as well as some other diseases. My sister got out one of her old lab manuals and researched low platelets. Then she calls me and asks if my dad still drinks tonic water at every meal. I said he still does (having just visited my parents recently). He drinks it in replacement of alcohols (sober for 8 years). Turns out, tonic water, quinine kills platelets. Sister told dad, dad told doctor, doctor told him to stop drinking it and his platelets have gone back up some. Not to the normal range but the range that he can live in. So he has low platelets regardless, but the tonic water acerbated the problem. Just a tidbit of info.

Gayle, I think you and I are on the same clean routine - neat and not much clutter but there is always more to clean. For me, I'm ok with neat. I'd rather spotless but I like to play way too much. And I have four shedding husky dogs. Spotless is impossible.

Jess, LOL on the guilty pleasure. I love your description of the show. Maybe I'll need to check it out. Mine is sneaking my huskies into bed with me. Allergy doctor said I could keep them (well duh, I'd rather die than be without them) but he said never to have them in my bed. But I love snuggling with them. BTW, DH has caught on since the shedding huskies tend to leave fur clumps in their wake no matter how much I brush them.

Rie, I totally get the problem with the feel better now comments as losing weight. I was asked that and to be honest, I was in less pain fat than I am now. As the med tech said as he cast my arm after I broke 4 bones in my wrist rollerblading - "I don't cast many couch potatoes". I'm so active now and have a thing for speed that I'm nearly always injured. Today my right ankle hurts after the elliptical yesterday. My left knee is finally back to hking without its knee brace after having to use it for two months. So the "feel better now" comments, I just roll my eyes. But I do love being active and not having my body restrict what I can do. So that's usually my answer - I love how active I am now. BTW, I love your new avatar!

Nancy, I don't think you're being unreasonable. I think your SO is being clueless and his DD is the unreasonable one. Put your foot down hard and keep it there. I'd have been pi$$ed off and I wouldn't have gone with them. I think you handled it well. Also I liked the suggestion of date night - when your mom and DH join you, then it's double date night. It could work.

Donna, must admit I picture you as Stephanie Plum from Janet Evanovich's books. Some reason I bet you're competent at catching the bad guys.

Hedge, I'd also like to know why it's cheaper to eat crappy foods. Encouraging words??? You Can Do It!!!!!

Freda, I'm glad you made your DGD's recital. I hate when work interferes with my personal life.

Bobbi, where in MN do you live. Every time I see your avatar you look so familiar. I'm trying to figure out why. My parents still live in MN and they've mentioned the hot. Yesterday I said to DH when I looked at the weather in MN "I need to go back to MN" and pointed out the high of 97 degrees (I love heat).

Lynne, I'm sorry about your friend. I'm glad you found a good way to communicate with her.

Tea-Granny, plateaus stink. There are other more appropriate words but stick with it. You've lost a lot and its going to be slow going to your goal. Just keep at it and the plateau will eventually give way to your superstength will.

Karen31 LOL at the humor from this morning!!!! I will be using "Well isn't that precious?" from now on!!!!!

I DID IT!!!!!! I made it through 4 pages on the thread. It took 90 minutes (Ok, I did have to work between reading). BUT I DID IT!!!!!! I'm caught up. Never again shall I get so overwhelmed with work that I miss a week. Too much happened!!!! I know I missed a few people in the personals but I tried. I really did.

I'm still doing great food wise. Exercise is always a breeze for me. My sister has been doing WW and is doing great. I want to invite her here but then I lose some of the anonymity. What do you all think? I realized when she and I chatted last week (via texting - who'd have thought our generation would be a bunch of texters???) that I'd been on my plan for well over 3 years. So when I was reading the thread and someone mentioned (Rie???) a co-wroker on a crash diet that "Passed by" weight loss wise I thought of the hare and tortoise. Slow is the right way to go! If I had crashed dieted, I'd have regained and relost and regained the weight a bunch of times in that three years.

OK, I need to work. I will be better at checking in!!!!

Marie

Hi Everyone Well, I'm getting back to "normal" (for me anyway!) My company just left - well she isn't really company - a great friend! We were busy doing "stuff" & eating everything in sight! It was hot & sunny all the time she was here & right after she left it has clouded over & is raining like crazy! I didn't get on the scale today; yes, I am a coward! I'll get on my scale tomorrow & back to WW next Tues. for "official" weigh-in. We went to a huge Craft fair, farmer's markets, shopping - Value Village even...& other thrift (aka boutique) stores. Watched the Canucks get positively massacared by Boston last night. I've just finished reading all the posts - so good to catch up with all of you. to Hedgehog & Debbie! You will love this site. Everyone here is so supportive & helpful! I won't be doing any personals as I've been offline for a week. My friend hooked me up with SKYPE, showed me how to transfer photos & organize them on the 'puter. I'm so computer iliterate - it's pathetic. I'm looking after the neatest dog (besides my own!) - Benji is a Basenji/Cairn Terrier cross; he's so homely he's cute! To those that there are less of, a big YAHOO! & to the rest of us........we will keep on keeping on, eh? BFN
