Good Morning, All.
PT, I'm here... just not very ChattyCathy these days! You sound good, and I definitely think you should consider adopting me and taking me along on that fantasy Greek vacation! How was the cornbread last night? And are things moving downward (as in your weight!)?
Georgia, you SHOULD write for Fodor's! Your writing is interesting and vivid and, sometimes, laugh out loud! Most enjoyable!
I'm doing well...
Warm and dry, Everyone!

Good Morning Girls,
It's not the bright sunny day I have easily become accustomed to! I guess the sun is gone for a few days, and we're getting spring rain. I guess if we want the spring flowers we have to put up with this too.
Linda, Are you going to go vegiterian now? I know vegan is more than I could manage. Oprah had that star (can't rmember her name) that was vegan and she was showing how she shopped. Lots of substitute meat and ice cream. Doesn't sound a lot better to me. Had another guy on there that was talking about eating more natural. I like that more. But again, how to maintain. I do well to eat as healthy as I can and count calories.
Lynn, Have fun!!
Donna, I want to go with Z and Georgia too! maybe we could make it a group trip. I don't want to take hubby either. I want to see what I want to see, especially since it would be a once in a life time trip.
Z, I hope your weekend is fun. Going to see the Kiddies? Is it nice enough there to go for a walk outside yet? Did you have your corn bread? I would have it with everything,,love it!
Karen, feel better. Take it slow and easy untill you're back to 100%.
Eveyone, make it a good day
Freda

Freda, I became a vegetarian when I was seventeen. During most of these years I've been vegetarian but I did fall off the wagon a couple times due to the men I was living with. None have been vegetarians. The man I'm with now is almost vegetarian but still eats fish.
I agree, it does seem slow in here. Are people achieving their goals and wandering off to slim-people adventures?
I have a long way to go. I'll be here for a while...
 Linda

Linda, tee hee hee! Slim-people adventures!
I'm still coughing with this upper-respiratory infection. I don't like coughing. My ribs hurt and I have a headache. This makes me cranky.
I just ordered a book on doing vegan the right way, with respect to food, getting all the right nutrients and all that. I still like a nice leather Coach bag (but not for dinner!), so I'm not going radical with everything. And I think I'm going to be more of a flexitarian, one who is vegan a lot of the time, with an occasional visit to the animal kingdom, as long as it's grass-fed or wild-caught.
My wrist feels better, but I still have to wear the brace for another week. I take it off sometimes to do something (usually involving washing pots and pans), and my wrist starts to feel a little achy. Don't like it that no one's taking up the slack on housework!
Jess, thank you for praise. It means a lot to me. As it happens, I am a writer. I've just not gotten a paycheck for it yet. I'm working on my first novel and some plays I'd love to see locally produced. It's my goal to get my masters degree in playwriting at Columbia University and have one of my plays on Broadway. So far, I have the urge to write hen lit, all about women in mid-life transitions. I'm hoping that this process will help me exorcise my mid-life angst and I can move on to other genre. Someone once suggested I write mid-life erotica. Wouldn't that just be too funny! Scenes that involve fishing for dropped Cialis pills on the floor of a taxi in London, backing out of bed so a younger lover doesn't spy a saggy backside, nose and ear hair clipping rituals before a date...I could go anywhere with this stuff!
I just saw the designer Carolina Herrera on The View this morning. She talked about how she didn't become a designer until her 40s, after she raised all her children. Hearing this gave my ambitions some well-needed fuel. It'll be another six years before my youngest is out of the house, and I may be free of other responsibilities by then as well. I have time to save money, practice and develop my skills, and get really healthy and fit so I can truly enjoy myself in the pursuit of my dreams.
...as soon as this persistant cough stops and I get full function of my wrist again!
A Samos group trip sounds awesome to me! I can't go yet, but maybe in a few years.

Good Afternoon all,
I baked a whole chicken for supper and DH did all the dishes, what a love! I could hardly stand up, my side kick Charlie is never far when I'm cooking. I turned around to get some seasonings for the chicken and trip over him, fell flat on the floor and twisted my back. Now I'll join some of you with my aches and pains. I went to my 2nd bone building section last night, asked if I could bring my own weights. NO, we have to build up to heavier weights. Geeeeez, one pound weights are nothing! I decided next tuesday I'd pick up two sets of weights and hold them together, they won't know the difference.
Thanks Zoe and Jess, my grandson is very handsome. He's a senior this year and his main interest is basketball and working for gas money. He had the same girlfriend through 10th and 11th grade but found her too clingy so he's girlfriend free this year. I enjoy reading all the posts, haven't been contributing much. DH laid the basement stairs carpet runner today and put the stain in the birch walls in the basement. We're getting close to finishing up. I have a cushion to sew yet, I ordered some French Lilac material to make it. I found a huge framed print of lilac's in a garden, he had it on clearance for $135.00. I said I didn't want to spend that much so he gave it to me for $100.00. The frame and matting was worth $150.00 alone so I got a super deal. I'll post a picture when I'm finished up with that bedroom. I only got in 15 minutes of Leslie's walking tapes today, I was going back downstairs later but never made it. Tomorrow I'm not sure how my back will be, gonna ice it right now.
My 95 years old dad broke his hip 3 weeks ago but they didn't know it, nothing showed up on the x-rays. He'd been trying to walk on it for all that time until he was in so much pain he couldn't get up. They did surgery last Wednesday and he checked out today because he was feeling so good. Pretty good for an old guy!
You all have a great week-end.

Hello everyone. My laptop is dead. May it Rest In Pieces. I'm at DS's place for the baby's birthday party and I'm using their computer. If you don't see me around I'll be making plans for the laptop's funeral and the eventual birthing of a new one. So what I'm actually saying is I have no computer and I don't know how long I'll be without one. Hopefully, not too long.
Georgia, I ate vegan for about 2 years. I didn't find it any more expensive than when I ate meat or vegetarian but I did find it took longer to prepare meals. We did eat some meat analogues but mostly I prepared the food. I lost about 20 pounds during the first few months but after a while it got easier and faster and eventually I even learned how to gain weight on a vegan diet by baking and cooking all sorts of vegan delights loaded with fat and sugar....sigh....leave it to me to make an 80 calorie apple into a gastronomic 500 calorie dessert.
Anyway, I'll be able to post the next 2 days if I can get to this computer and then I don't know when I'll be back but I will be back as soon as I can get to a computer or buy a new one.

Good Morning Everyone,
VERY rainy Friday night & Saturday here in Philadelphia. Yesterday we spent the day at the Constitution Center - especially the Rome - America exhibit. Amazing how much of our art/architecture/legal system derived from the Roman Empire. Hope we don't mirror their decline! http://constitutioncenter.org
Last night we went to a gourmet Asian restaurant - http://www.buddakan.com
Today we're off to a tour of the art and architecture of the Kimmel Center http://www.kimmelcenter.org/facilities and later to the Rodin Museum - http://www.rodinmuseum.org
Check back later,
Lynn

Have a great week-end everyone, remember to be good. In no time at all our sleeveless tops and shorts will be here. Remember that when a 'no-no' food appears on the horizon. Report back here on Monday with your successes, O.K.?

I didn't know celery was full of chemicals, I always wash everything but maybe I'll be more careful when not buying organic.
Quote:
12 Foods to Eat Organic by Dr. Weil
Eating fresh produce is the best way to obtain daily nutrients, but the pesticides used on many crops remain a major health concern. By choosing organic foods, you can reap the health benefits of fruits and vegetables without exposing yourself to potentially harmful chemicals.
Make sure you purchase only organic varieties of the produce listed below. According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), common growing practices make these crops the most likely to contain pesticide residues:
1.Peaches
2.Apples
3.Bell Peppers
4.Celery
5.Nectarines
6.Strawberries
7.Cherries
8.Kale
9.Lettuce
10.Grapes (Imported)
11.Carrots
12.Pears

Beautiful day today. Everything is well, serene, even... PT, doing okay?
Daylight Savings time change tonight... hated Summer will be here in no time!
Be safe and warm!

Good Morning. Bobbi so sorry to hear about your Dad's broken hip. Isn't it a wonder how they can go for that length of time with a broken hip and we all end up moaning and groaning with our aches and pains. Makes me feel pretty whimpy!!
OK-- I'm on day 4 of feeling pretty good! We went out yesterday and did some shopping that was needed and I was pretty tired when I got back but still feeling OK today. I hope because we ended up walking out in the rain yesterday ---this bug doesn't jump back on board!!
Guess I'd better get some house work caught up today and need to get to the bank before they close --- two birthdays so need to get 2 savings bonds!! I find they are usually just the right size and color! AND easy to mail!

Good Morning! I received this in an email this morning and thought that I would share it with all the Golden Girls!!! Enjoy!
Observations on Growing Older
~Your kids are becoming you...and you don't like them...
...but your grandchildren are perfect !
~Going out is good...
Coming home is better !
~When people say you look "Great"...
they add "for your age!"
~When you needed the discount you paid full price.
Now you get discounts on everything ....
movies, hotels, flights, but you're too tired to use them.
~You forget names ... but it's OK
because other people forgot
they even knew you!!!
~The 5 pounds you wanted to lose
is now 15 and you have a better chance
of losing your keys than the 15 pounds.
~You realize you're never going
to be really good at anything .... especially golf.
~Your spouse is counting on you...
to remember things they don't remember.
~The things you used to care to do,
you no longer care to do,
but you really do care that you
don't care to do them anymore.
~Your spouse sleeps better
on a lounge chair
with the TV blaring than he does in bed
It's called his "pre-sleep".
~Remember when your mother said...
"Wear clean underwear in case you GET in an accident"?
Now you bring clean underwear in case you HAVE an accident!
~You used to say,
"I hope my kids GET married ...
Now, "I hope they STAY married!"
~You miss the days when everything worked
with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch..
~When GOOGLE, ipod, email, modem ....
were unheard of, and a mouse was something
that made you climb on a table.
~You used to use more 4 letter words than just
"what?"..."when?" ???
~Now that you can afford
expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it anywhere.
~Your husband has a night out with the guys
but he's home by 9:00 P.M. ...next week it will be 8:30 P.M.
~You read 100 pages into a book
...before you realize you've read it.
~Notice everything they sell in stores is...
"sleeveless"?!!!
~What used to be freckles...
are now liver spots.
~Everybody whispers.
~Now that your husband has retired ...
you'd give anything if he'd find a job!
~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet ...
2 of which you will never wear..
~~~~But old is good in some things:
old songs
old movies
~~ AND BEST OF ALL ~~
OLD FRIENDS !!!
Good Morning, All!
Karen, that's good... and you sound downright perky. Are you feeling well again, finally? It's been a long haul...
Nothing to report. I'm slogging along and (believe it or not!) have no complaints.
Warm and safe, everyone!
