Theresa- The Cuyahoga Falls graduating class was almost 300. The seats were nearly filled. I can't believe they gave these kids 10 tickets to hand out. My kids only for 4 if I remember correctly. But then again it was held in the high school gym too many years ago.

We've been to the Blossom for concerts too. We went to see Depeche Mode when the girls were still in school and a few years ago we went to listen to an orchestra play. My hubby loves classic music. It was nice. We sat on the lawn and took our own food. But that night there was a tornado that came through, it was cool to see, but I hate storms and at the concert there wasn't a basement near by to run to. When we got home we heard a tornado came through very close to where we live.

on the loss!!! You go girl!

Paula,
I graduated from St. Paul in Norwalk.
86 kids in the class. Very small.

My dd and I sat on the lawn too. did not take a picnic. I did not even think to do that! what a good Idea. It was a first for both of us! So I will always have that memory. AND a band we both like. do that again. No really we would love to do the old music. She downloads old music all the time.

GREAT TRUTHS THAT LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED:

1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats.
2) When your Mom is mad at your dad, don't let her brush your hair.
3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always
catch the second person.
4) Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.
5) You can't trust dogs to watch your food.
6) Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair.
7) Never hold a dust-buster and a cat at the same time.
8) You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.
9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.
10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap.

GREAT TRUTHS THAT ADULTS HAVE LEARNED:

1) Raising teenagers is like nailing jelly to a tree.
2) Wrinkles don't hurt.
3) Families are like fudge...mostly sweet, with a few nuts
4) Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
5) Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside.
6) Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not
the toy.

GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT GROWING OLD:

1) Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.
2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.
3) When you fall down, you wonder _what else you can do while
you're down there. _
4) You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a
rocking chair
that you once got from a roller coaster.
5) It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody
bothers to ask you the questions.
6) Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.
7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE:

1 -- You believe in Santa Claus.
2 -- You don't believe in Santa Claus.
3 -- You are Santa Claus.
4 -- You look like Santa Claus.

At age 4 success is . . . not peeing in your pants.
At age 12 success is . . . having friends.
At age 17 success is . . having a driver's license.
At age 35 success is . . having money.
At age 50 success is . . . having money.
At age 70 success is . .. . having a drivers license.
At age 75 success is . . . having friends
At age 80 success is . . . not peeing in your pants.

Pass this on to someone who could use a laugh.
Always remember to forget the troubles that pass your way;
BUT NEVER forget the blessings that come each day.

Have a wonderful day with many smiles

Take the time to live!!!
Life is short. Dance naked (on second thought pass on this one at your age!)
And eat dessert first.

Hello, hello, hello from sunny (YES) Boston! Lovely day – NO RAIN predicted – and I am in a good mood because I slept in one of the spare bedrooms last night and really SLEPT for a change! (DH snores. It’s practically his only bad habit – but it’s baaaad. ) I put up with it – waking up periodically throughout the night and shoving him back over onto his side so he’ll stop the snoring, finally getting back to sleep only to wake up again an hour later and do it all over again – for only SO long, and then when I’m good and exhausted and irritable, I finally make the move into the spare bedroom for a couple of nights until I catch up on my sleep. I know it makes him feel bad – he’s tried just about everything possible to stop it short of surgery with no success – but enough is enough!!! So, I’m cheerful and rested this morning, as I intend to be tomorrow morning as well!

So, I’m sitting here in my office, chomping my dry Fiber One (I ate my bunch of grapes on the way in to work, and just polished off some strawberries and cherries.) and reading 3FC. AND, I see that you’re at 173 now, Lynn!!!! Omigawdhowawesome!!!! Congratulations! Hopefully, you’ll be able to control your blood sugar levels through diet – back years ago when I was an Atkins diet freak, I remember reading in one of his books about how his diet (low carb) was the BEST diet for anyone with Diabetes. It certainly makes sense, doesn’t it? And, re: the ballet – I haven’t been for years! The last performance I saw was the Alvin Ailey dancers in Boston – must be a decade ago. They were amazing, though. I danced “en pointe” until I got married. Ruined my feet, let me tell you! Did some terrible dieting back then too – plus the constant practice all through my college years – I honestly don’t know how I survived it. I never had any aspirations about dancing professionally – didn’t have the swan-like bone structure nor the drive – and I have no idea why I stuck with it as long as I did. I was involved in a lot of Civil Rights stuff back then, too… now I remember it all as one huge blur, it seems.

Well, I am such a chicken about weighing myself, but all your glowing reports are making me want to climb onto my own scale. I think I’ve sorta been hoping that if I wait long enough, one day I’ll hop on without thinking, and it’ll say 170! (Fat chance, huh?) Good going, Phyllis & Theresa… good grief, Theresa, you’re really moving right down the ladder on the fast track, aren’t you??? You’re making me proud…(and I admit it…a teeny, tiny bit envious!).

Best wishes – as always – to you, Paula, and your Dad. I had a terribly hard time of it years ago when my Dad was ill. I was so used to his being a big, strong, robust man, and seeing him ill just broke my heart.

Well, Moxie, I may have missed you if you’ve already left for your visit with your kids. My daughters all live here in Massachusetts, but my son, who will be 26 on the 16th of this month, seems to have settled permanently out in Los Angeles. I MISS him so much! (I may have mentioned this in previous posts - ) He’s coming home for a visit at the end of this month and I can’t wait!!!!!!!

Lily – a second home! How kewl!!! In the Minnesota woods? Oh, my DH would LOVE that! I’m more of an ocean person myself, but who can afford a second home on the coast???? Last time I looked, they were advertising veritable SHACKS within walking distance of the beach in the $1 mil. – plus range. Actually, to tell you the truth, with the cost of living as high as it is here in the Boston area, we couldn’t afford a second anything, anyway, so there’s no need for us to do any comparison shopping.

Hope your leg is feeling better, Lyn.

Hiya Dr. Femme! Hope your day to yourself was absolutely great!

Bobbi, I’ll second Theresa’s sentiments….I’d surely enjoy dropping in on your sale. I have the box of crocheted doilies that I got at auction a week or so ago, though, and who even KNOWS when I’ll get around to piecing them together to make any kind of bedskirt? (I always have SUCH ambitious plans…..sigh.)

Karen? If you happen to peek in, I’m thinking of you and hope you’re enjoying your trip!

Ah, and last but never least, my favorite foreigner, Jo-annie!!!!! Check in, girlfriend!!!! How was your weekend? Is it still viciously hot up there? Why don’t you come to Boston for a visit?

Have a wonderful day, GOLDEN GIRLIES! (I apologize for taking up so much space on the thread!!!)

TTFN,

Ella

Hi to all the GOLDEN GIRLS!!!! I can't believe I am now almost a week without counting my calories I need to change that today. I know I have been eating right and not getting stupid with choices. I finally got to do my definition class yesterday -- only had trouble with my knee for a bit. After the class I took off for a 20 minute walk to our Finance dept -- I still had my workout gear on. When I left it was just beginning to rain -- when I got back it was full downpour -- dried off and tried to fix my hair with the hand dryers in the change room - for once I was happy to have naturally wavy hair -- so I survived the afternoon quite well LOL.

Just have to vent a bit about "fad" and "quick" weigh loss "schemes" -- one of the guys I work with is a big guy naturally -- I think about once every other year he does some sort of "fad" weight loss -- sheds about 40 or 50 pounds in a month and looks good for a bit then it creeps back on. Well he teaches nights and weekends so I haven't seen him in about a year -- my goodness I think he is tipping the scale at 400 pounds -- he turned himself into a mountain. He used to talk to me about his weight loss -- and I preached "eat less - move more" but he was the typical loser wanting it fast and furious -- can't even imagine the damage he is doing to his organs -- ackkkkk. Ok off my soap box I just had to get that out - I am still in shock at how he looked.

Lyn - so cool you enjoyed your reunion -- I love reconnecting with my school friends. The fact I never moved helps me to maintain contact though. You may have missed my question to you about your pic with your hubby -- was that taken in Vancouver? Sure looks like our north shore skyline.

Moxie -- if I have missed you hopefully you have a great time with your kids. My only son lives 20 minutes away so I get to see him at least once a month (just barely LOL). I am 16W and can hardly wait to get into regular sizes.

Lily - your second home sounds lovely. We had a great place on a lake but had to sell when I lost my job back in 1993 -- right now its on flood watch which was always a worry for us.

Lynn - That would be so cool to not have to up your meds. Enjoy the ballet - you just never seem to have a dull moment -- you GO GIRL!!!

Paula - we are back to cool - which is nice. Good thing they are taking care of the clots. Those are lovely pics of your family.

Bobbi -- Hi and thanks for the posts -- very good stuff!!!

Phyllis - gotta love loose clothes. It was when everything in my closet was too tight that I started this journey -- now its almost too big YAY!!! WANTING to exercise is a great feeling. I loved getting back to it yesterday.

Theresa - YAY on your 20 pounds gone!!!!!

Ella - I was the noisy spouse and I know where both of you are coming from. I hated that I upset my husband's sleep and he hated that he slept away from me. Our last few years together it was just the way it was -- I had the bedroom and he had the spare room. I even decorated it for him when he was away in New Zealand. Just how it had to be for his sake (he was so very sick and needed his sleep). Once I got over the hurt and realized it was for the best it felt natural. OK just keep riding that bike -- eating right and I bet if you wait another couple of weeks you are going to blast through and out of the 170's. I am still waiting to get out of the 230's LOL

Actually I just read the other day I am just a couple of months from being a maintainer. If you lose at least 10% of your body weight and keep it off for a year you are considered a maintainer. Well I think I have achieved that and then some -- YAY!!!

I will test my will power this week with graduation parties, birthday parties and who knows what else.

Lynn: Congrats on keeping your blood sugar under control. Hope you have fun in NYC. Wish it was closer so we could go more often, our son lives and works there as a TV producer. Sure do miss him.

Theresa: 20 lbs. down. You will soon be passing me by. We are close to the same height, so I know how just five pounds lost can make a big difference. It's almost like a whole size!

Bobbi: Can I bring some of my stuff down there for your sale? On second thought, I would probably leave with more than I brought. My daughter and I are trying to get ready for a garage sale sometime this summer.

Joanne: Glad to hear your knee is better. I can just picture you in the rain. You are lucky you have the perfect hair for wash and dry.

Lyn: I would like to hear more about the hypnotist. I have always been afraid to try that.

Moxie: You will have to do a "book report" on that book/audio of "Rethinking Thin". It sounds like an interesting book.

Ella: Your office sounds wonderful! Sure beats my cramped cube at work. I quit bringing personal items to work because they kept moving me into different offices. Now all I have there is a coffee cup. Fortunately, a lot of my work can be done at home so I don't need to go in daily anymore. I know what you mean about the snoring - my hubby is the same way. Some nights I get only a few hours of sleep. There should be a support group for us.

It's starting to thunder here in MN, so I'd better check the weather. I heard there might be a chance of severe weather today. Get ready for some more rain Paula and Theresa.

Default Quick check-in today

Hi all,

I was at a conference yesterday so did not check in here. My leg is on the mend - actually rode the stationary bike today and it was fine. Will be back to walking my 45 minutes/day soon. Thanks for all of the good wishes.

Ella - my DH is a snorer and he finally went to a sleep specialist and they said he had sleep apnea. They put him on a Continuous Positive Air system (C-PAP not sure what the final "P" stands for)...but it is a mask and supplies air into his nose and mouth when he sleeps. I used to have to sleep in the attic he was so loud, but now he no longer snores at all. It's wonderful. (Not very romantic looking, but he puts it on after the lights are out.)

Jay-Jay- the photo was taken in Alcapulco - our wonderful vacation 2 years ago. your shoreline sounds beautiful too.

Theresa, Lynn and Phyllis - WOW...nice job with the weight loss!!

Sun is out here too, but it is a lot cooler.
I never should heve weighed in on Monday. I was up 5 pounds!! (Some of it due to the swelling in my leg, but not all of it.) Back to sensible eating now.

Lyn

I am so happy, I'm so glad. I've been doing the happy dance all day long. My DH is smiling too! You spent waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much money and I'm awed by your generousity.
Now what can I do for you?

Good Morning Everyone,

Hi Paula, thank you for sharing your photos. I love to see everyone.

Hi Bobbi, Hope you do well with your rummage sale.

Hi Phyllis, I see you listed your "hypnotist" as your "FUN." Must be relaxing for you.

Hi Moxie, OK - I ordered Rethinking Thin on CD's - BUT the discussion begins this month & the CD version won't be out for a while. Soooo - I guess I need to pick up a hard copy. Oh well, one can never have too many books!

Hi Theresa, I'm DoInG tHe HaPpY dAnCe fOr YoU! Congratulations on your loss.

Hi Ella, I LOVE Alvin Ailey - that was the first ballet I ever took my daughter to see. Yesterday, the girl dancing Aurora was amazing. She held an arabesque en pointe while 4 men turned her around by holding her hand - after each one, she would lift the held hand away from the man and hold her arms over her head - did this 4 times in a row without ever getting off pointe! AMAZING! I used to dance also - ballet and tap. My DD did ballet and jazz. My sister owns a dance studio - she danced professionally. Her daughters teach in the studio & her grandchildren dance there. My great niece just got accepted into the dance program at Rutgers.

Hi Joanne, I'm DoInG tHe HaPpY dAnCe fOr YoU! Congratulations on being a "Maintainer."

Hi WoodLily, Good luck getting through all those parties.

Hi Lyn, glad your knee is feeling better.

The ballet was just BEAUTIFUL! We had a great time, but ate in NYC for lunch AND dinner. Too much fat and salt (I avoided the carbs). Yesterday I was 171.6, today I was 172.8.
This afternoon, I must have another small surgery to get rid of basal skin cancer on my back. My dd is driving me and staying with me in the doctor's office. No fun or exercise today - unless, maybe I run out to do some shopping this morning - I'm planning to get a new laptop if I can find one that's light enough.

Hope we all have a Happy and Healthy day,

Lynn

Good Morning Golden Girls- Schools out! Yippee!! All 4 grandkids are going to the in-law GPs for the rest of the week. The oldest will have to come home on Sunday so he can go to band rehearsal on Monday. They are practicing for a parade on the 19th.
I went to visit my dad last night and talked to the nurse. She said they are not talking about a filter for the blood clots yet. They are going to see if the meds help first. He still has the congestion in his lungs. The therapist came in and said they had him sitting up for a long time.
She said he asked where his Sausage gravy and biscuits were. That is what he would be eating if he could eat. That's too funny. He seems to still have a good sense of humor when he's awake. I couldn't get him to open his eyes again while I was there. He was asleep most of the time. He did tell me good-bye before I left.

Bobbi- I loved your Great Truths. I printed them out for my Red Hatters.
Congrats on winning the 1st challenge prize. Sounds like it was a very nice gift.

ella- The sun is back here today. It was cool yesterday again. I wore a sweater all day. It's suppose to be near 90 today. How can it change that fast?
Were you brave and did you get on the scale? If so I hope you got a good report.

Joanne- Sounds like your knee is on the mend. Take it slow & easy. You don't want to hurt it again.

Lily- Good luck with all the temptations.

Lyn- Sounds like your weather is like ours.
Sorry to hear about the gain. You will have it off in no time. Injuries have a way of spoiling our plans.

Lynn- Good Luck at the Dr. today.

I'm off to take my shower and then to the dentist for my cleaning. YUCK!

Hi all,

I am happy to report I have losst 2.5 of my 3 vacation lbs. Hope that last .5 isn't gong to be stubborn!!! lol

Paula, that is funny that your Dad asked for that type food, he has a good sense of humor for sure.

Lynn, good luck at the Dr. office. You sure do keep busy, we are getting lazy here and into a retired RUT!!! Working on changing that.

Woodlily, you asked about the hypnosis and I think you meant the question for me as I am going to one. I love it, #1 it is so relaxing but it is expensive.
I go every week for 7 weeks and then once a month for 4 mths. I haven't lost a lot of weight but my clothes are fitting lose now. The main benifit is my energy level is very high, I exercise everyday (and I want to now), I see changes in my portion sizes, foods I choose, things like WANTING to park further away from stores....I could name many things....it is working for me. I get a CD on a different subject every visit to listen to during the week, the last one was Thinking Thin. I LOVE IT....wish I could go every week.

Lyn, great you can get back on the bike now. Glad your better.

Got to run, sorry I didn't get everyone....Phyllis
