Question Are low carb products phase one legal?

Hi Ladies, I was wondering if products like low carb bagels, breads, bake mixes, etc. are legal for phase one? Adkins has lots of products available. I know they are competing diets but would they work? I'm just restarting SB and want to be sure to stick with it this time so any info would be so helpful! Thanks and happy 4th everyone.

Pear, I'm sorry to tell you, "No." You really need to read The South Beach Diet book or join online at Southbeachdiet.com. Phase 1 is very limiting. You may have protein and vegetables. Even some vegetables are off limits like carrots which become legal in phase 2. You may have no fruit until phase 2. The point of phase 1 is to essentially detox your body of all sugars and carbs. In order to do that you mustn't have any or you will have to start phase 1 all over again. Once you've gone through the difficult first two weeks successfully and move on to phase 2, the diet will allow all those low carb foods. Good luck!

Welcome back to The Beach!

The emphasis for South Beach dieters is on good carbs and foods that are processed as little as possible so those products are not considered SBD friendly for Phase I or Phase II. When you get to Phase II, you can add whole grain products.

I guess that it would depend on the product. Be sure to read the lables and pay attention to the fat and calories per servings. It also depends on which phase you are in. Look at the ingredients~are they allowed on SB?

Remember that low carb does not equal low fat or calorie. SB is about healthy fats and calories, not just carbs.

Thanksso much, ladies! Good point about the processed foods. I didn't really think of low carb products as "processed" but when you think about it that's exactly what they are. Luckily I love vegetables and that chocolate milkshake recipe I found here really is helping with my sweet tooth. Going good so far! Can't wait to weigh in on Friday and see how much more I've lost!
