Default Favorite Fitness Club?

I'm finally thinking of joining a fitness club in my area. However, I'm in San Antonio, and we have soo many! Any recommendations on what clobs are good? I'm looking at Spectrum Fitness and Bally's Fitness, as well as a local place similar to Curves.

I have a membership at Ballys. The club decor is darker than what I would like to see, but I like the fact that its a nationwide club so I can pretty much go anywhere and workout.

Was wondering what the name of the place similar to Curves is? I've noticed a place around here that states it's circuit training. Haven't been inside, but it looks like a Curves type setup. It's called The Pulse, and they have locations for men and for women separately.

It's called "The Power Room for Women", AlmostHeaven. Uses same equipment and follows the curves books.

Well, I live in a semi-rural area, and we have no "brand name" clubs except Curves. I went there for a short time, but quickly felt I had "outgrown" their exercise. Our little town has a nice gym, locally owned and run, with good equipment and classes. What we're missing is (1) certified PTs and (2) an agreement with other gyms so you can go on vacation, etc. THere is a statewide chain here (I'm in Alaska) but the nearest branch is 1/2 hour from me. If I lived where they had them I'd certainly join a chain one if just for the ability to go to another if I was in the area.

Just this past weekend I joined 'Power House' gym with my aunt. I don't know if they have them anywhere near you - but the price was right - and the people were friendly.

There was no one there waiting to 'sell' me a membership. When we asked them about the gym - the gentleman explained a lot of the equipment to us, and when we asked him about the prices, he simply pointed to a sheet, that stated what they offered.

We went for our first workout yesterday and I couldn't have been happier. I thought that the gym was going to be all "buff" people - but once in there - I realized they were just normal people like me!

Good luck in your search for a fitness center!
