Question Superbowl and super food.

Ok who is going to a Superbowl party and what is you plan of attack? We are having one here and I have already written down what I'm allowing myslef to have. We are serving Hot wings, shredded chicken sandwichs and chips with salsa.

It is my treat day so I will indulge some but not over my treat day 600 to 800 calorie limit. I am ready to put my new strategy to the test. In times past I would make food like this and just tell myslef that I'll watch what I eat and then end up pigging out. This is the first time I've wrote down what I'm going to have. So I have a map now all I have to do is follow that map. And this is one man who is going to stop and ask for directions if I get lost.

sounds like a plan Howie...
Hopefully it will be such a good game that you will be too involved with it to think about food.

Good Luck today.. let us know how it goes!

Good luck, if it doesn't work, you'll have to emigrate to England next year for football season!!! We tend to serve jacket potatoes when watching soccer, which is a bit healthier, and they are eaten with chili or savoury mince, no cheese, butter or sour cream (which is a bit boring, but at least a bit virtuous!!)

Your plan sounds great I am sure it worked wonders!

savoury mince??? i'm sure it's yummy - but WHAT IS IT????

i had to chuckle at this thread. we have a UK office and there's always lots of teasing back and forth about rugby vs football vs soccer and cricket vs baseball. last week, the subject of the super bowl pool came up, and one of hte Brits said that he wasn't at all interested in the outcome of a sissy game called football that was actually rugby played by heavily armored children.

ok ok . some back and forth, and then someone's voice rang out: THIS ISN'T ABOUT THE GAME - IT'S ABOUT GAMBLING!!!

and with that, the Brit said: COUNT ME IN!!! <of course, he said that he wanted philadelphia to win, and i had to ask him if he REALLY wanted me to get him the stuff i'd promised him... ?

Ahhhhh, savoury mince. Here's a recipe for you Jiff (mind you, its not the same as what's put in mince tarts - which is a Christmas dessert staple and is chock full of fruit).

Basic Savoury Mince

1/2lb extra lean ground beef
1 small or 1/2 large onion
1 stick of celery (optional)
1 or 2 carrots
Small can of tomatoes
Beef stock cube.
1 or 2 Tbls. of oil
Worcestershire sauce

Method:
Heat oil in pan, chop onion, carrot and celery (if using) and lightly sauté in the oil until beginning to brown. Add the ground beef and stir until evenly browned. Add the tomatoes, stock cube, and Worcestershire sauce, mix well, cover and simmer gently for 20 to 25 minutes.

What do you use it for? Well.....

As a topping for baked potatoes: add 1-2 teaspoons of chilli powder or a drop of tabasco sauce and a small can of kidney beans (drained), cook for a further ten minutes to heat kidney beans right through.

As a base for shepherd's pie: peel potatoes, cook in salted water until soft. Drain and mash, adding a little butter if required. Place mince in ovenproof dish and top with the mashed potatoes. Dot with small knobs of butter and brown under grill.

As pasta sause: add a tablespoon of tomato purée, a small clove of garlic and 1/2 a teaspoon of mixed dried herbs or oregano. Cook spaghetti in salted water until still firm to the bite, drain, serve and pour mince mixture on top. Top with fat-free parmesan cheese.

As a pizza variation: cut two english muffins in half (or use crumpets) and toast. Spread meat mixture over the top, sprinkle on some grated cheese, oregano, or any other favourite or left over ingredients. Place under grill for three or four minutes until cheese is bubbling.

GO EAGLES GO!!!!

Well, I HAD a plan. I had 14 points left for the day and 14 flex points. those of you who don't follow, that's about 1400 calories. I knew there would be lots of junk (cookies - my weakness). I even had a plan, I could have a cookie on my way out, so I wouldn't be tempted to have more.

What did I do the minute I had my coat off. Ate a cookie!!! All bets were off after that. *Food porn ahead* Some pretzels and dip, little bit of chili cheese dip with chips. A few taco rolls. Chili dog and chips for dinner and a small bowl of chili. And numerous cookies and a few brownies (my other weakness). Now I am at home and I could kick myself in the tush. Especially with weigh in being tomorrow. UHHHHHH!!!!

Ok, Nothing I can do about that now. Get back on track right now. Nothing more to eat tonight (not like there is room!) lots of water and pack my healthy lunch for tomorrow!!!! At least I had a healthy breakfast and lunch.

How did you do Howie??

I had no football party to go to or interest in watching the game. I'm usually the type that will watch if I have a reason, but I won't go out of my way.

So... I decided to go to the gym which was pretty good because there weren't many people there.

The Super Bowl is one of the holiest days of the year!! We have all the fixings...but I just tossed some of the high calories left overs and stayed away from alcohol. I ate well within reason. Crappy, high fat, greesy food just doesn't appeal to me lately.

Back to the game...

Oh Sandi my plan did not go as planed either. I was mindful of what I ate. A lot more than what I used to be. Plus I did not stuff myself simple. However I went over my treat calores of 600 to 800 by 600 to 800. So I'm at 3200 calories for the day. That beats some recent treat days of 4000 to 5000. So at least I'm improving and I'm thinking about what I eat.

I really think now that I should have avoided the party altogether. I knew that I was in a weak state (TOM). I drank lots of water last night and am eating my oatmeal as I write.

Since i’ve been on a very strict diet for the past two months, i did not prepare any plan of attack for Superbowl party…i was just gonna let things go. Once every two months aint that bad.

Started the day with a meal replacement shake. For Lunch I had tuna Sandwich.

Went to play hockey in the afternoon; just to make myself hungry for all the junk food planned ahead. After an hour of Hockey, we gathered at a friend’s house…

Had a moderate amount of apetizers….Chips, Vegetables, Spinach dip….. And then the binge……………..

…….did not happened!!!! I had one hamburger and 3 hot dogs; and I was filled to the top. I mean, my stomach would not let anything in anymore. Is that what we call damage control??

I had to laugh at that.

I had to watch soooo much football growing up (my dad and brother love football) I just don't enjoy it now, and bf doesn't watch the games either.

You've got to figure that every fall off the wagon is a chance to learn how to do better the next time. Too, the football parties are usually geared towards eating, sort of like the Thanksgiving of the sports world

Now how about those boxes of chocolates that are going to be floating around on Valentine's Day??? I see troubled waters ahead of me there....

1 Bowl Kahsi Cereal 230
3 servings Chicken Wings 4 each 660
6 beers 600
2 Shreaded Chicken sandwich 400
5 servings chip and salsa 800
2 Skinny cow ice cream sandwiches 260
4 cookies 300

I too went in with a plan of attack and attack away at the food did I!!!! My thought was I could try to exercise off those extra 300 or so calories I had planned on having. Shoot, it's now 3:30 in the afternoon and I'd probably still be trying to exercise all those extra calories I ate
I at least journalled it all. And I know not to keep junk in the house. Before bed I even ate 3 cookies and a small glass of chocolate milk "since the day was shot anyway." That's something I hardly ever do. Oh well, lesson learned. Be more prepared next time
