Red face New on Atkins

Hey, I am Joanna and I decided to try out this diet for the first time. I am a little stressed out because I never seem to be able to stick to anything for more than 5 months, and my family has very bad eating habits, so trying to eat seperatly than them may be a problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
Joanna

Hi Joanna, Welcome! I hope you like your new way of eating (WOE) Just stick with it for the first two weeks and follow everything close. If you get hungry, just eat a little more of the allowed foods. Then you should not be hungry.

I have stuck to the Atkin's for over 4 years now and it's the first diet I've been able to do that with. I did go off for several months and gained a bunch of weight back, so I'm starting over now. There are so many meals that even your family con't tell if it's a "diet" meal. And if they still like bread, just a a roll or potato for them. But maybe they also will see how well you are doing and want to do it also. My husband is on Atkin's with me. He does very well...better than me...no fair! haha kidding. We support each other in order to succeed at the on going wieght loss (OWL)

Hi Joanne, and Welcome !!

The first thing I would suggest is reading the book. Then read the FAQ thread here and also going to the atkins site and reading up there... The more info you get, IMHO, the more likely you'll succeed and won't make mistakes (like I did ).

Changing ones habbits is not an easy thing to do. From what I've learned and read, its best to make changes slowly. Yanking things out from folks never works, we can all testify to that can't we lol. Slow is good. Stuff like, if your a fast food junkie, well stop going to fast food places, try cooking what you like at home instead and tweeking the recipies to be more on the healthy side. I don't mean instead of a burger throw some tofu on their plates How about a chicken burger and some home made baked fries...you get the point. As for your eating with them, just eat the burger and not the fries, have a plate load of atkins friendly veggies ckn wings, deviled eggs, etc.

Slow Is Good !!!!

Hope to see you in the daily chats.

Hugs.

Welcome Joanna!! I can honestly say I've never managed to stay on a diet either. Make sure you read the book! And of course feel free to ask questions and come here for support. I told myself (because the book said so) I'd give it the 3 weeks it asked for and when that didn't work I'd just resign myself to being fat. Well, it's almost a year later (and of course slip ups here and there--mostly here lately) and I'm still on this WOE. It's simple!! My family doesn't eat what I do. I just make a salad for myself and they get potatoes. Then we all enjoy a steak, or hambuger (bun for them, onions on mine ) and away we go to eating supper. Or I'll make them pizza and myself something I like that they don't. It gets easier
