GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS

It is a lovely 53 degree day with the sun shining and everything looks like spring. The hills are alive with fress new green grass and the air is crisp. What a wonderful way to start the weekend. Tonight we go to a wedding reception that will really be a do. Sit down dinner and all the fixin's. Next Friday evening we have our annual White Elephant gift exchange party which is always a great time. I will make a huge pot of chili beans and every one else will bring finger foods. I love this time of the year.

Everyone have a wonderful day and make the most of this weekend ahead.

Type at you when I can....which is more often than not now.

Morning girls! Hope everyone is doing well!

Maggie: Did you have a good time at your wedding yesterday? My niece is getting married in February but we aren't going. It is going to be in Las Vegas and I told them if they planned it close to Christmas and decided to have it there we wouldn't be able to come and neither would my other sister and it looks like a lot of the rest of the family is not going either. They have been going together for years and living together for at least 4 years and just got engaged at Christmas so I don't know what the rush is. She is not pregnant and if she is rushing because she is afraid he will back out, that is a stupid reason for getting married as divorce will be a sure thing. It is their wedding and they can do as they like, but they didn't consider any of her mom's family (none of her dad's family, though large will show up I am sure as they have little contact with them) when they did this.

I had a terrible night last night and woke up in pain this morning. I think it is a combination of the weather and our stupid bed. We are getting a new mattress etc but I am waiting until after Christmas to get the inventory sales around here. We have a state law where these companies have to pay tax on inventory they have by Feb 1 so they have these great sales all over the place. Best time to buy a car here too.

Next week is going to be busy. I have Thomas on Thur and Frid, T's Christmas program Friday morning then grocery shopping and cookie baking. Promised dd and t I would go with them over the weekend to see the Lemony Snicket movie and I have these cookies that take two days to make, one day to make the cookie part that has to be refrigerated overnight and the second day to make filling, fill and bake and it makes 10 dozen and takes all day. Thank goodness I have a husband that helps me or it would take me 3 days to get them done. Has anyone ever had Kieflies? They are a Hungarian cookie and I haven't made them in 2 years and decided to make them this year along with milk chocolate fudge and choc chip cookies. Most of it will go to my dd and I think I will ship some to my son as he loves the kieflies. The kieflies are a cresent shaped cookie. The dough is made of butter, flour, lemon zest, sour cream and a dozen eggs. The filling is a dozen egg whites, lb of powdered sugar, ground walnuts, vanilla. After baking, they are rolled in powdered sugar. They cost about $8 a dozen in Indiana to buy in a bakery or at the farmer's market. They are really divine I must say but as you can see, very FATTENING! The trick is to roll the cookie dough as thin as paper. Let me know if you like to bake stuff like this and would like to try your hand at them as I will post the recipe! If I remember, I will take a pic when they are finished so you can see what they look like.

Well, enough food talk. Need to get some chores done. I may try and get the downstairs cleaned today if I can get my joints going!

Good Evening, Flowers!
Just peeking in before I head off to bed. It has been a long day and is so windy that I'm afraid to see if we have any shutters or shingles left in the morning. It has been 40 mph all day with gusts up to 60 mph -- that is windy!

The bell choir sounded awesome this morning if I do say so myself. The congregation must have thought so too because they applauded afterwards. We played "Carol of the Bells" and a neat/different arrangement of "Joy to the World." We left for the city right after church; I wanted to look for area rugs but didn't find anything that caught my eye. I really don't want to go back to the carpet store as I'm sure they would be higher in price. We went to the concert this afternoon -- they are the only accapella group, in the U. S., to have a recording contract. They are good but have a very different style of music. We met the kids and grandkids for pizza afterwards so that was fun.

Maggie -- Nice to see you here again!

"Gma" -- We're in the market for a new mattress set also. I'd like to move our set to the guest room but I'm not sure it will fit. There is a double set there now and our's is a queen -- the room is pretty small. Your kieflies sound wonderful! I wish I could have a sample but I know I would never make them. I don't get along with anything that has to be rolled out!

Well, I am heading for bed! It has been a long day and a busy week coming up. Have a marvelous Monday, Flowers!

Jean -- in Iowa!

morning ladies

Jean: We plan on putting our old mattress in what is now my office. We are going to have to rearrange the whole house because of the candle business so I decided to make that a guest room. It is wallpapered in hot air balloons and I would like to get something fitting for the bed comforter wise etc. Bed, Bath and Beyond used to have a cloud and sky comforter, which would be perfect, but I don't know if they still sell it. Of course, I just bought the new stuff for that bed for our room and it won't fit, because it is a queen and we are going to buy a king, but I don't want to put it in the other room I don't think. We shall see. Wish I could have heard the bells yesterday. The cookies are a big pain, especially rolling, which you end up with sore palms, but my kids and dh love them and I haven't made them in 2 years now so thought I would give them a treat.

I am not feeling so hot today. Got sick around 2 am and still feel kind of out of it, but I hope as the day goes on, I will feel better. I need to light the candles in the house as Jack fixed breakfast this morning and the sausage smell is all over the house, ick!

Arrow Good Evening

HOWDY MAGNOLIAS

It has been another lovenly Spring type day here in the mountains. No snow down this low again this year but up higher there will be good snow fights. Suits me fine. However, I do miss those white Christmas days we used to have when living in the snowey country. I have a snow scene as my computer wallpaper and that "snow for windows" program going. Pretty. A friend of ours dog ~ a black and white toy Shih-Tzus ~ just had 6 puppies. They usually only have 2 to 4 and she had 3 females and 3 males. They sell for close to $700. The man who is the owner was over today and told us that they were born and I said I would LOVE to have one but just can't afford it. He told my husband that he would make him a deal. I don't know what kind of a deal and am not going to ask because Cowboy said he would get me one ~ a male is what I want and will have him "fixed" for I don't want to raise them. OH ~ Turn will have a puppy to deal with that will only grow to his size. It will be a sight to see them getting to know each other. Guess it will be the later part of January before I get him. I moved the place where Turn will be fed today so as not to have that as a shock when the puppy arrives. He now gets to eat on a pretty mat on the washer instead of on the kitchen floor. He will have a good six weeks to adjust to that arrangement. Got to feed him out of the reach of the puppy.

I sold the glass village that I had entered in the fair. Now I am going to start a new one which to be a smaller "fishing village" to enter in the next one. Any orders I get I can make and do my village in between. I like to keep busy. My eating has been out of control but I KNOW I will crank it down come the new year and get REAL SERIOUS. Cowboy is going to do it with me since the doc told him to lose some weight. He knew he had to anyway but that was just the kick that he needed to make up his mind.

FAYE sounds like your candle business is going to go well. I know how it is to make room for craft items in a small space. Cowboy has put up some sheves in here for me which is sure a great help. The wedding dinner was so fun! They did a real nice presentation of the pictures I took and had them on the screen. Then they had lots of them in frames with the bride and grooms names on them to give out to the guests. Real nice presentation to the guests. I am so glad the pictures turned out so good. I didn't realize how old the first roll of film I used was for it was in the camera and the date that showed up was way back. Way back. So I was doubly glad the pictures turned out well.

JEAN I love Christmas music. I can just hear those bells ringing. I bet your place will look great with the remodeling you have been doing. One day I just may see it.

Have a wonderful evening friends.

Good Evening, Flowers!

I fell asleep in front of the TV this evening so need to make some fast tracks in the next hour or so. I guess my yesterday caught up with me tonight and I was more tired than I realized.

It was windy and cold again today. The sun was out so that was a welcome sight.

I am beginning to panic about Christmas! I have lots of shopping left to do and there's not much choice in this town . . . WalMart or the Hallmark shop. We need to make a shopping run -- maybe some day right after school. *groan*

"Gma" -- I hope you are feeling better by now!

Maggie -- It will be interesting to see how Turn feels about a puppy invading his space. Bob's secretary has two stray cats that adopted her and she had a dog when they moved in. She had to put the dog to sleep and wasn't going to get another one. After two months, she was just too lonely without a dog in the house so she got a Pomeranian (sp?) puppy. Lizzie is black and looks just like a little bear. The cats were very upset at first but now Lizzie rules the roost so to speak. She gives the cats their exercise! Feeding Turn "up" is a good idea!

I need to fold a load of towels and am heading for bed! I hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!

Jean -- from Iowa!

Arrow The Deal

I am back with the 411 on my puppy. Will got a call from Bubba, the man with the puppies, and he told him what he wanted. Biker saddle bags, a chained biker wallet and something for his wife ~ probably a purse. That is the deal. I get third pick of the litter. The owner of the male that is the "father" of the puppies and a women with cash in hand get first and second pick. Fine with me for that leaves me 4 from which to pick from and I don't know what gender will be left but if each of them do pick a male that leaves one for me but by then maybe one of the females may catch my eye. I will just have to wait and see on that. The remaining 3 will probably be sold on e-bay. Life is good.

JEAN I don't know how Turn will react to a puppy. He is the boss of any dog that has come into this house but none have been babies. Hopefully he will react different to a baby than a full grown dog. I can just see it now when Turn is asleep on his back with that furry white under belly exposed and that puppy pounces. He will only do it once. Turn has been the boss in this house for so long. It will be interesting.

morning girls!

I got up early this morning and cleaned my whole house and did my laundry and sheets so all I have is the laundry to fold (about 1/2 load) and put away then I am done for the day. Tomorrow is clean the deck day and put away patio furniture and the grill. I am not looking forward to that because it is pretty cold here today and will be tomorrow also. Just hope the wind dies down. Got to get out there before it rains again or the leaves will be glued to the ground so to speak.

Maggie: Some advice about picking your pup. Try and stay away from pups that seem to be very afraid and shake alot. Lean toward one that seems friendly to you. They adapt better and seem to have less health problems than ones that are "nervous" acting. I am sure you are going to love him. I know my sister loved her two. I am a die hard yorkie fan so will only buy another of those. They, unfortunately, cost around $1200 for one from a top breeder. Right now we are full up with pets!

Jean: Why don't you buy online more? You can pretty much get online what you can in the stores and it is quiet, restful, and not crowded. No lines to stand in either and the selection is good! I have used Amazon.com. Overstock.com, Penneys.com. QVC and HSN and Barnes and Noble.com all with very good success as far as a good product and getting here quickly. I especially like Overstock. Oh, and Zappo.com, which is shoes and handbags upscale not Payless or Kmart. Anyway, just a thought. Harry and David when it comes to food is good also, but stay away from the Popcorn Factory at all costs!

Well, I want to get stuff taken care of downstairs and my feet are freezing so I need to get some socks on. We keep the heat off at night because I just can't sleep with it on so it is about 58 in the house right now, BRRRRRR!

Have a good day everyone!

Arrow It's Tuesday

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS

It is a bit foggy here this day ~ the high kind and the sun is trying to peek through. That puts a bit of chill in the air. Not much out of the ordinary happening around here this day. When Will gets back from a meeting he is at we are going to town. Yep down the mountain on a beautiful drive.

FAYE that is good advice on picking out a puppy. When we got Turn he was the only one of the bunch that came up and talked to me so he was the keeper. He was only 5 weeks old when he did that too. And he hasn't stopped coming up to me and talking. He is a very quiet cat but when he wants something he lets me know what it is. He did fine with our puppy in TN so I think he will adapt with this one. It won't ever get much bigger than he is. I like those little Yourkies too, they are so sweet and cute.

Have a lovely evening folks.

Good Evening, Flowers!
Well, I wrapped and DH packed MIL's Christmas box and it will be mailed tomorrow. I wrote two Christmas notes during some "down" time at school today so addressed those envelopes and they are ready to go! I went wagon shopping on the internet after school and ended up buying one at my least favorite store . . . Wal Mart! But the only other place in town didn't have what I was looking for and Toys R Us didn't think they would get any in before Christmas. I should have bought the first one we looked at a couple of months ago! live and learn . . . you'd think after all these years I would know better!

Not much is newsy from my corner of the world tonight. I am having email problems -- sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't! It's getting to be more and more "it doesn't." GRRRRRR, I don't have time to mess with a testy computer!

Maggie -- I hope all goes well with your puppy picking! You will have to keep us posted of all the antics that go on.

"Gma" -- I do shop online but there are some things that I like to see in person before I buy. I'm not feeling quite so panicky tonight and have decided what gets done, gets done, and what doesn't no one will know the difference. . . .I hope!

I am off to catch the news and head to bed. I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!

Morning everyone. It is quite chilly here this morning. Had to turn on the heat overnight for the pipes and the animals so I am all stuffy headed this morning. Also have a slight headache from it. I dry out so easily.

Maggie: Sounds like your new glass project will be fun and interesting and congrats on selling your other village. I am looking forward to the first of the year to start with my candles.

Jean: I remember last year being in a panic because the easel I bought for Thomas was not here a week before Christmas and that was our big present to him. I was furious with this company because they had no idea where it was (hadn't even been shipped, though I had ordered it THREE weeks before) and didn't care whether I got it on time or not. Problem was, it was really popular last year and everybody was sold out when I went to buy it and had waiting lists! We got it a couple days before Christmas, but I won't use their company again, that is for sure.

I got on a roll yesterday after all the work was done and went outside to check the mail. I decided since it was sunny I would at least get the patio furniture stored as well as the bbq. Once I got started I just went all the way and blew leaves out so now the deck and flower bed is cleaned up too so nothing to do today but my regular chores! Tomorrow Thomas is here so that will be fun. I was thinking about maybe getting some cookies for us to bake and he can than take home.

Guess I should get off my behind and get my chores done. Everyone have a great day today!

Good Evening, Flowers!
I've been to bell choir practice and should be writing some Christmas cards. I don't know what my problem is this year but I just can't get going.

I need to pick up my kitchen and wrap a gift that needs to be mailed tomorrow.

"Gma" -- I wish you'd send some of your energy my way!

Have a terrific Thursday!

Morning girls! Quick post as I am about to take Jack to work and then will have dgs all day today and the dreaded commissary this afternoon!

Jean: How is you mil doing? I have thought about her a lot and keep forgetting to ask. A lady down here went to the casinos with a group from her retirement community, walked out of the casino and wandered off and has been missing since Monday. Just makes me sick, knowing she had problems with memory etc that they didn't have a staff member go and stay glued to her.

It is cold here this morning and going to get colder this weekend but I guess I will survive. I just need to go back to my 50's!

Everyone have a good day and will check back tomorrow with you if I don't have time today

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS

Well it wasn't a pretty sight at WW this morning. I showed another gain and decided I must stop the leak. I don't want to gain back all it took so long and hard to lose. I am cranking down today and not waiting for the new year. Enough is enough.

Guess I really got a good deal on my little soon to be Shih-Tzus. A friend back east paid $1200 for hers. Yilkes! Glad that Cowboy can make the owner of this little fur ball some leather goods in trade. I am thinking of a name. Ragg-Mopp. Got a good ring to it. "Ragg-Mopp, do tee ott do tee do too, Ragg-Mopp." Raggs. Yep I like it. We will see for I still have a month to think on it.

Have a lovely aftrernoon Flowers. Christmas is just around the bend.

Happy Thursday . . . tomorrow is Friday!
It was a beautiful day in my corner of the world with a 40 degree temperature, the sun was shining all day, and NO wind for a change. I love it!

I have to keep working on my cards tonight. I will get them done! I did write a couple of notes at school today because the kids were working on review sheets and I was all caught up with my own work. That doesn't happen very often.

DH is putting the Christmas tree together as I type. It is better if I stay out of the way and do the decorating later. I need to dream up something for supper since we ate leftovers last night.

"Gma" -- MIL got to go home yesterday! She is still very sore but will have home health nurses/aides coming each day to help her bathe and take her to therapy appts., etc. When DH called the hospital, he had a nice visit with her roommate because his mom had just left to go home. Thanks for asking! I hope you and T had a fun day today!

Maggie -- You will have to post a picture of "Ragg - Mop . . . . . " -- you do come up with the best names!

DH is done so now it is my turn with the tree. I hope you all have a fantastic Friday! Take a few minutes to do something nice for yourself!

Jean -- from Iowa!
