Talking Need an answer about chili, QUICK!

Hi ladies...

I did a dumb thing.

I made one of the Ph1 chili recipes I found on the board here. Ground beef, crushed tomatoes, peppers, etc, etc.

I simmered it until about 10:00pm last night, then I turned off the heat but left it covered. Then... oh goodness... I fell asleep on the couch, stumbled to bed... WITHOUT putting it in the fridge.

I woke up this AM, and realized it (freaked out), but called my dear Mom and asked her if she thought it would be ok. She said she thought so, but I'm SOOOOOO leery.

Girls? Ideas? Should I just trash it? I am SO mad at myself for the waste. My food bills have doubled since starting SBD (the only bad thing about the diet), so I'm kicking myself here for wasting good meat, veggies, etc.

I'd eat it but then I am a student. But I've never had food poisoning!

(all eating is entirely at your own risk Dill Inc. & CO. bears no responsibility for your choice in this matter)

The rule is, when in doubt, throw it OUT! DH had a case of food poisening from eating raw oysters--landed him in the hospital. It was not a pretty sight!!

Meat starts to spoil after three hours ar room temperature. Throw it out! Food poisoning is a terrible thing - although you would lose weight!

Throw it out. I've had food poisoning, and a food infection. You seriously seriously don't want to get sick.

If you reheat it until boiling supposedly it is fine to eat. I am always dubious about this but I have eaten lots of meals like this and never had food poisoning from it.

I've done that many times with chili, spaghetti sauce and soups. I turn the stove back on bring it up to boil, then turn it down to a simmer for another couple hours. Haven't had any problems yet.

I would not do it if I was feeding someone with an impaired immune system, an elderly person ,a child or a large group of people, but for me and my husband it's ok.

Whew! I worried all night! My cousin, who is a physician, poisoned her whole family with a ham left on the counter overnight. Everyone was very, very sick! I know because I was cleanup squad! Yick!

Wanna hear somethign gross???

My MIL who we all know how much I just llloooooovvveee her. Reused all of her spices like cloves and bay leaves - for no joke YEARS. So take it out of the spaghetti and put it in the jar to reuse, because it was 'expensive'. (Don't forget these people have millions in the bank).

My DH saw me throw them away and was like, oh don't you save them. With my weak tummy I was flabbergasted. (sp?)
