Question When can we add peanut butter?

I'm a little bit confused about when we can add peanut butter (the natural kind with just peanuts and salt). Is that a Phase 2 thing? Also, I seem to remember Dr. A talking about having nuts during Phase 1, but they are not really in the daily plan. Are they okay during Phase 1?

Thanks, guys! Our secretary had peanut butter toast for snack today, and the smell just drove me out of my mind!

Laurie, you can have up to two tablespoons in Phase I. Here's the link to the list...

You can have nuts including peanut butter in phase one but in small amounts. The problem is that they really go with bread which is not allowed but some people make a ricotta peanut butter desert or use PB for making satay meat dishes.

You can have peanut butter and nuts as described above. For me the thing that saved me from craving sweets was having the South Beach Peanut Butter Cup a few times a week. It's somewhere in the recipe section, I think. But basically it consists of 1 no sugar added fudgicle, 2 tablespoons natural peanut butter, and 2 tablespoons Cool Whip Lite or Free. Let the fudgicle get a bit melty and then scrape if off the stick into a bowl. Add the peanut butter and cool whip and stir together. This is so good and will really satisfy a craving if you're having one. It made me feel "normal" to be eating something so yummy and I think it helped me to stay On Plan.

Thanks, guys! Yummmm!

The peanut butter cup sounds wonderful!

I was actually thinking of just having a spoonful of peanut butter as a snack. I love it! And peanut butter and celery, and peanut butter and dill pickles (I know...this is weird! My mom and I used to eat it late at night when my dad and sisters had gone to bed because we knew they would laugh at us! But it is soooo good!).

So, up to 2Tbsp...but is that a week? A day?

Wendy,

PB & Pickles would be a great way to get in your daily dose of protein. I think it's the perfect post-surgery snack.

Yes, it's not for everyone, but I like it!

Thanks, guys...2 Tbsp a day sounds like heaven! Nuts...would that be the 15 a day of almonds or 30 a day of pistachios he mentions in the book? For some reason, I thought that was a Phase 2 thing...but I must have misread! Whoopee!

I'm confused...the SB book says 1 teaspoon (tsp) of peanut butter...where did the 2 tablespoons come from?

I would LOVE 2 Tbs, as I'm a peanut butter junkie, but don't want to overdo it...

That's the old version. The updated version allows 2 tbsp per day.

LOL! Glad to know that I have a friend in being a peanut butter junkie, MissChevious! Finding out you can have 2Tbsp instead of 1tsp (or none, as I thought) is like getting something to the counter at a store and finding out it's majorly marked down! Happy day!

Thanks for the clarification! I'm new to this (Day 2 of Phase 1), and just discovered the board yesterday--it's been very helpful! Out of curiosity, where do the updated lists come from?

We make them up as we go along.

Honestly, I have no idea. I'm just a co-moderator here. Ruth?

Talking

Ellis! You nut! (no pun intended)

I think the updated lists come from the newer SBD books. The new Phase 1 list is from the cookbook, I think. It might be from the Good Fats/Good Carbs book, though. Either way, it is from Dr. A.

And guess what I had for snack yesterday??? PB & Dill pickles....Yum!
