Default Who knew a breadstick had THAT many calories??

Just went out to eat with a friend after walking 5 miles with her. I ate 3 breadsticks, thinking my walk worked those suckers off. Nope. A dang breadstick has 240 calories = 720 calories!! Sheesh. Normally I check my calorie intake before I eat, but the rest of my meal was salad and chicken so I assumed I was fine. Nope, nope, nope.

That's what I really like about calorie counting. It is EYE OPENING! It's no wonder I'm working to lose weight now that I think back to how many breadsticks I've shoved in my mouth without giving it any thought. It is also eye opening how much exercise is necessary to burn calories.

Thanks for quantifying the breadstick calories. I knew they were bad, but not THAT bad!!!

Right??

Before counting calories, I always thought I could eat a few because the rest of the meal was good. But now they're not worth the waste in calories. Learned my lesson.

beecurrency: totally feel you! went to Olive Garden and had to really stop myself from eating a ton of the breadsticks they start you off with because I knew it was bad for me! so much easier now that california tells you the calorie count on so many restaurant foods...

Yeah, I am amazed by how many calories certain foods have, especially bread. Just logging my food has cut my intake drastically, because when you actually see the numbers, it's shocking. I don't know how I wasn't much larger.

Popeyes biscuits are 260 a piece used to eat 4-5 and then eat a chicken strip meal and fries... I knew they were naughty food but was pretty mortified at the calories in 1 measly biscuit

Popeyes - 260?!? That doesn't even seem possible! Why does bread have to be so high in calories?? It's like my favorite thing ever. =(

Froyo is another one of those shockers. You think you're having a "healthy" treat until you log it. OMG!

Or, restaurant salads. Another area where you think you're doing the right thing, but typically - NOPE.

And, granola! 1/4 cup or you're in trouble.

You can eat anything when you calorie count, but it sure helps you realize there are trade-offs. Definitely helps with portion control.

If I get rolls at like Texas Roadhouse or something, I tell them to bring me one, but no basket

Oh my, granola. I couldn't believe how many calories I was putting onto my Cheerios - just a handful is easily 200 calories.

Also, pasta. 2 oz of pasta (200 calories's worth) is one of the saddest sights. I basically don't eat it anymore unless I can afford to have two servings.

I ate two sausage burritos at McDonalds yesterday morning (I hardly eat there, or at any fast food joint) because I forgot to eat breakfast before I went to my class and was feeling ill. Then I logged them. Whoops, 300 calories each! They have a lot less than that when I make them at home! But of course I usually use turkey bacon and real cheese. I needed to eat something, but lesson learned.
