I wouldn't go so far as to say that I LOVE Dr. Phil but I do think that he is good at what he does and I think that he does help people.

he doesn't exactly look like someone that should be giving weight loss advice. i'm trying to take into consideration that the camera adds 10-15 pounds but he still looks a little too big to be telling other people they are fat.

He doesn't express anything I haven't already seen, heard or read from hundreds of others in the field, so until he comes up with something new and profound I choose not to listen to his annoying, grating voice (his good ol' boy accent makes me cringe) or suffer his pompous, condescending and patronizing manner. Gee, am I the only one to vote "hate" so far?

I don't think that it is neccessarily that he is saying anything totally new or profound. I think it is the way that he is saying it. IMHO a lot of people who talk about weight loss today let you get away with having some kind of excuse or reason for being overweight. It's a bit too touchy/feely/emotional for me. I can relate to Dr. Phil's approach because I feel like he is saying that I've done enough whining and complaining. It's time to sh!t or get off the pot.

So, Jill, you're not the only one to vote hate so far!
Have I conveyed my thoughts effectively?

i voted depends on the day. but i'd actually say i have a love hate relationship with him. its really about 65% hate and 35% hes ok.
some of the times i watch him he just totally pisses me off and i dont think he has a right to be saying some of the things he says to some of the people he says them to.
my mom CAN'T stand him at all!

I voted Love...even though that is a bit strong...I would more say I like him and his ways.
As for him being 'fat'....I personally think he is a large man(big boned, tall), and sure he might have a few pounds to shed, but not that many. What's more important here is that he is healthy and in shape.
And I do agree....he can be a pompous windbag at times, but usually what all comes out of his mouth is the truth.
I don't watch all of his shows, but I do LOVE his Weight Loss Challenge shows.
Also just wanted to add that his Weight Loss Challenge ways of eating isn't a diet, it's a life style change....it's what you will be eating for the rest of your life, so it's not just something to help you lose weight, but it's also to help you keep it off when it's off and also to help you make wise food choices.

Overall, Dr. Phil kinda grates on my nerves, but only because he is ridiculously overexposed. I bought the audio version of his book and really enjoyed listening to him voice some of the emotional difficulties that I have on a daily basis regarding weight loss. There is just something honest about him that other weight loss "entities" just don't seem to touch on. I wouldn't say that he helped me lose weight, his eating plan didn't really grab me, but he made me feel less alone for a while.
