Smile Starting my 100lbs goal today

Just started today in my goal of losing 100 lbs, I would love to do it in 6 months but will be very happy if it is done in 12. My plan is to eat better, less, and excersise. I am currently at 330lbs and am 6'3" tall.
Any advise would be much appreciated!

I have lost 15 pounds in 5 months. I know it isn't very much but it is exciting. The only advice I can give is to exercise and count your calories . Measure everything. It is amazing how calories sneak up on you. Good luck.

Good luck, Tex! Keep reading on the site and you'll find lots of tips. Remember to take photos today. You'll want to look back on them because you won't look anything like them 100lbs from now! You CAN DO IT!

Welcome Texas79! 6 months is not a very realistic timeframe for losing 100 pounds. A healthy rate of loss is closer to 1 - 2 pounds per week. You will lose more in the beginning.

Good luck!! But I agree with Judy, 100 in 6 months is not realistic. I can see perhaps 12, but that seems unhealthy. Please be safe with your weight loss. I have done the "unhealthy" way and it is never a solid success. I do the same thing. "3 months 30 lbs GO" and I get depressed cause I give myself such a time frame and never succeed. Just go with the flow. Days go by so quickly!

Hi Texas79! The three things you mentioned, eat less, eat better, and exercise will get you to where you want to be! That's all you need! (oh, I'd throw in PLENTY of water too) If you are consistent and persistent, you will gaurantee your success.

Glad you posted. Remember plan, plan and plan some more. Planning is key, I think. When things are planned then food thoughts don't spin around in your head all day because it's decided. You CAN do this.

I too, think it's not realistic to lose 100 pounds in six monthes. However, you can get a great start in six months.

Carry on and keep posting.

Hi Texas and Welcome,

Losing 100 lbs is very doable. Also, you will be amazed at surprised at how fabulous you feel long before you hit that 100 lb mark.

(keeping it off can be tough, but that's another story.)

I suggest counting calories. If you don't lose it all in 6 months, don't get discouraged...it will come off. Hope to see you around here a lot! This group is a great support system.

What is a good amount of calories for me? I've been having a slim fast shake for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch and a small dinner (usually grilled chicken and salad). I am also only drinking water or unsweetened tea to drink.

Texas79 - how many calories does all that come to? It doesn't sound like much. If you google "calorie needs calculator", you can find a calculator that will tell you how many calories you can eat and still lose weight based on your weight, height, age, gender, etc. I think you could easily eat 2,500 bare minimum and still lose.....but check out one of those calculators to get an idea of your range. I'd be clawing at the cabinets if that's all I ate in a day LOL!

Too few calories won't get you there faster! It is more likely to mess you up, leave you hungry and binging or screw up your metabolism. I'd try starting at 2500 cals, and see if you're losing. muscleandstrength dot com has a bmr-and-daily-calorie-calculator that you can use to check what you should be getting to maintain your current weight. I use the calculator by setting it to what I'd like to be and the amount of excercise that I expect I can maintain, and then my weight loss daily calories are about 250 below that. Or you could go to LoseIt!, a weight loss app, and it will figure out how many calories you should eat if you want to achieve a certain goal (1, 1.5, 2 lbs/week).

One thing to keep in mind is that whatever you do to get down to your goal you will have to *continue* to do. Maintenance is not returning to old ways - it's continuing pretty much with the way you lost the weight, with a few minor tweaks.

That's one reason to not rush the process as well. When you first start it's easy to say no to a lot of stuff and eat shakes and tiny salads, but as time goes on it gets a lot harder to stick to such a limited plan. You'll have to learn to deal with meals out at restaurants, family functions, holidays, and just your own boredom!

Not trying to discourage your efforts, I just want to get you to be in a more realistic frame of mind.

I'm in my third year of my plan and I'm at 90 lbs down, 35 to go to get to goal. I'm taking the *slow* road! I've plateaued at various times, but never gone up.
