Welcome to 3fc.
At the moment i am just eating healthy, but as i get in to it more i will count calories. I find this way easier than other diets i have tried. Weight Watchers or Slimming World are also good, i have tried both and liked them but i still prefer calorie counting. We are all different and it's hard to say which diets will suit another person. I would suggest doing some good research and seeing which one appeals to you and give it a go. Your doctor would be a great place to start also, talking it through with him/her. I am sure they would also be able to advise you on the right amount of calories for you. But research and professional advice is a good place to start. This forum is packed full of information and support, so you have come to the right place. Good luck on your journey Jemma.
After many years of thinking about it I found a diet that I like.
I have been doing one of the Intermittent Fasting style diets for about a year and have lost exactly 2 stone. I have not stuck to any plan or been very good at it, it fits my lifestyle rather than rules it. My logic is that even I can commit to 2 days a week
It doesn't suit everyone, the lady I started with absolutely hates it, but might be worth a read - there are quite a few websites, try Up Day Down Day or 5:2 as key terms.
I count calories and keep track of them on a site called fitday.com.
And you're going to think this is ridiculous but I've been using wii FitPlus as my exercise regime. It has yoga, strength training exercises, aerobics, balance and training games like cycling, running, skiing, and so much more. I love it and have so much fun.
On your phone get myfitnesspal. It is time consuming to log everything but that keeps you on track. If i am close to my limit for the day (1500) i increase water and eat something low in calories for dinner.
If you can the warrior diet is very effective (Works well for single folks but if you live with others the temptation of other food in the house will break you)
Exercise:
I try to walk 1hr every day
I also do one of thefollowing:
I go for classes at puregym (Zumba, spinning, weights, bootcamp)
Exercise video at home - one only (Turbo Jam / Insanity / Focus T25 / Jillian Michael's Ripped in 30 / Jillian Michael's 30day shred / Slim in 6 / Hip hop abs / Black girls can workout too)
I get bored easily so have loads of choices. lol
Dont think the OP is not going to check this anytime soon but
Induction Foods from Atkins DANDR with 48 hour food fasting once a month.
I focus on carbs but sometimes my calories to help portion control.

My routine mainly consisted of exercise DVDs and the occasional long walk. At the moment I'm not doing anything really due to being pregnant. I've had great results in the past just by using DVDs. I've twice been a member of the gym and didn't really get on with it.
The secret to losing weight is to burn more calories than you take in... People some times do not relize that sugar and cream in your coffee count as calories. Just about everything we consume has calorie content.
Eat what you normaly eat for 4 days and record the calories consumed for the 4 days. If you do not lose or gain any weight during the 4 days, then this is your maintenance calorie intake. Now to lose weight, decrease your maintenance calorie intake by 50 calories. You will lose weight slowly but it will be consistent and will not throw your entire system off.
