Default TGIF - Friday Chat

Good morning. Ok I'll start today......

I am gaining and losing the same 2 freakin pounds lately...oh well. Not going to fret too much. It has been a really stressful week and also TOM so I will just kick butt next week and hope for the best.

I am starving this morning because I didn't have my quiche yet and they have bagels here at work on Friday. Better run to the kitchen NOW and heat up my quiche before the evil bagel wizard gets me!

Will check in later..just wanted to get things started today.

I see people post that they have a Valentines day challenge to lose XX amount of weight. Is this something you know or can predict? I sure couldn't because at the moment my scale isn't going down and I don't think my measurements are either. Gets kind of frustrating!!!

It's still cold here (not below zero) but now it's snowing. UGH! The furnace guy is coming to clean our furnace around 9ish so I'm determined to clean the house a little. No matter how much I try this place always looks trashed Anyone have suggestions on how to keep it clean (w/out a bulldozer anyway)??

Have a great day

Morning all!!
I'm incredibly excited after last night when I was expressing my fears to my friend Brenda that the whole Atkins thing might not be working because it's that TOM and I happened to start both on the same day AND.. I haven't had any horrible headaches and the past 3 days have been pretty easy for me. Well, she shoved me into the bathroom with one of those urine test strips AND... whooo hooo!!! It registered somewhere between moderate and high leaning more towards the high side! I can't even express how much better I felt. AND... lost 2 lbs... I'm all sorts of excited.
Got this memo in my mailbox yesterday at work saying "Come on, be a BIG FAT LOSER" they're doing a competition here at work. Ten bucks to get in on it and if you lose 10lbs, you get it back. The person who loses the most weight gets the money of everyone who didn't lose their 10lbs. I figure it's worth a shot I have until sometime in March.
After that, all I have to say is TGIF... I have NO class tonight (whoo hoo!) but I do have class all day tomorrow
Have a great day all!

There sure is a lot of weight loss contests going on at work these days, I read that someone's sister could win a trip to cancun if she wins. That's a fabulous motive to help out in the beginning wow. We better not do it at work, 2 collegues had WLS last year and they would kick everyone's butt hands down. Shimma, Brenda, I feel your pain ladies, I'm still at the same weight since weight in but i figured out my fat ratios were too low, I was not paying that close attention this week so serves me right. I usually lose fairly easily so I always have to be wary not to get discouraged easily (I do gain it just as fast tho ) but so far so good, it's only been a week and I'm not going to get all pissy...yet .

Theo'sGirl: Thanks for the vote of confidence... I believe I am going to do it.

The only problem I'm having right now is finding time to work out. I'm at work from 7:15 am- 3:00 pm and then I get in my car and drive to the university and go to my night class that I'm taking which runs until 7:15pm. Half an hour to drive home, plus another half hour to stop in at my friend's house who so kindly keeps some of her Atkin's dinner leftovers for me to eat and then I'm home by about 9 pm. This goes monday through thursday.

What I'm wondering is this.... is it possible to get decent results working out friday, saturday and sunday? Anyone have any suggestions? Please don't mention getting up early because 5:30 am is already early enough for me.

Shimma: not saying it is the right thing to do but I have lost weight on this WOE without moving hardly a muscle. I too find it so hard to find the time to fit exercise in. My goal this year is at least try.

Good morning!

FROUFY, I MISS YOU!!!! I miss a lot of people lately. Jamie, Karen, Fullfig, Supersized - where are you?? And our infrequently appearing Kim, Lisa, and Julie. I miss all of you tons!

I'm dragging tail today. Just like every Friday! The good news is that I've worked too many hours this week and since overtime is not usually allowed, I'm outta here at noon!

Froufy, I totally understand about the wine. My old, dear friend Jack Daniels has recently been making frequent appearances with some diet coke.

TG - we still need to get together for dinner at Uncle *****y's? Butchy's? whatever it's called. Have you tried it out yet?

Shimma - can't wait to hear how the contest goes! And yes, you can lose weight without exercising, but I wouldn't recommend it. Reason one: your metabolism will stay slow thereby making you more resistent to losing weight and not able to eat as much when you go into maintenance. Reason two: who wants to be a skinny fat person? You'll be thinner, but still have that overall "softness". Working and toning our muscles is what holds everything up and in and smoothly. It's a good thing!

As for workouts on a busy schedule - you can do it! A workout doesn't have to be 30 minutes in lycra. Just do little things. Walk some laps around the building at work on your breaks. Do some incline pushups against the counter in the bathroom or against your desk. Take the stairs and forget that elevators exist. I'm not sure what you do for a job, but if it's a desk job, keep a set of weights at your desk and do curls when you're stuck on a long phone call. Be creative! There's tons of ways to fit it in!

And now, for the new folks, I'd like to introduce one of the best sources of information and inspiration out there, The Skinny Daily Post! This is a daily column written by a wonderful woman who lost 100 pounds and has been successfully maintaining that loss. She's fantastic and her essays are priceless. The Skinny Daily Post

I appear to be down another pound today, but it could be dehydration from my buddy Jack so I'm holding off on counting it. Mr. Mucus is back at his desk today and I think I'm going to be ill. Thank goodness it's Friday!!!!

Hi everyone!!! fingers crossed that this post actually works. I have been having a heck of a problem coming in to read everyones posts and other threads. Ask Jane....I was getting a little paranoid after 2 days of not getting in. I thought everyone was blacklisting me!!! lol. Glad to say, I've dropped another 1.5 lbs and today is my 25 POUNDS LOST... DAY!!!! So glad I could share it with you !!! You all have been so supportive and have offered such great ideas, friendship and fun. THANKS!!! Thanks again Jane for my little 'pm' rescue. Not sure if I'm out of the woods and can post freely now or if this is just a fluke post.

Default I Am Here...

but I hang my head in shame as I am coming off a mini carb binge!!! What was I thinking???

It all started at lunch - new job you know....an email went around to our team (8 of us today) asking about lunch plans...and let's all go out. Four of us were available....and of we traipsed in the BITTER BITING COLD a few blocks from the office at a THAI RESTAURANT!!!...now I don't normally eat Thai food due to a nut allergy - but I was hoping to find something I could eat.

They had some sort of Thai salad w/shrimp and pork on the menu which sounded good until she mentioned it was pre-dressed in some sort of peanut dressing...ending up getting something else: padpakpoopiedo....or something like that??? Shrimp and veggies in a garlic pepper chili sauce....well let's just say it was PRETTY SPICY HOT - a very meager portion...and most of the plate covered in rice!!! So at first I stayed away from it - but in order to "cool" off my mouth I tried some - it was very good...so I had some more....lots of water too. Portion was actually pretty measly with only about 5 shrimp, some snowpea pods, spinach and asparagus. My mouth was on FIRE!

Figured I was okay - but now I realize I cannot HAVE ANY CARBS as I am a true carb addict and even a bit affects me (newbies take heed!)....all afternoon I was tired, sluggish, brain dead, wanting to sleep at my desk...and CRAVING SWEETS...had some pepperoni and sf jello to tide me over.

Got home and went nuts on (of all things) those mini blueberry muffins. Had some left on counter and decided to freeze them for ds's lunches next week - one flew into my mouth...then a couple more...then I was devastated!! What had I done! I am now even more bloated...didn't eat a proper supper (dh called to say he was working late so I basically gave up and just fed the kids).

I am so fearful of the damage done...after all my hard work this week I feel like a failure now! ..and I could just cry!

I am trying hard not to cave in completely and continue on the carb binge altho that is what I want to do....have left kitchen/food area and plan to stay upstairs til bedtime....I really need to get focused for the morning and get back on plan....is it stress? stupidity? or weakness? I'm not really sure.

So that's my sad story - besides that my job is too hard I think...when I imagine the stuff I have to do...I feel very overwhelmed.....not sure I even know what I"m supposed to do...feeling lost and confused.

But it's friday - 2 days off to at least do some laundry and try to get some order in here...nothing major planned this weekend....but dinner out Monday night for best friend's birthday - at an Indian restaurant no less....any suggestions?

Hi to all the newcomers: Shimma and Sha - sounds like you are on track and doing great...hang in there!

Star - where is everyone? I too miss Jamie and fulfig, supersized and karen, Lisa and Jina...is Kim around? I think she was the other day.

Too bad Mr. Mucus did not hand in his walking papers along with your other "friend"......

Jane - talk about the same 2 lbs...I think I have been hovering at this weight since Hallowe'en.....but mostly due to my own transgressions....I am finding it hard to stay on track and getting depressed about it...at the very least I should try to maintain and not go crazy and gain the 38 lbs back! It is nice to wear smaller size clothes!

A SPECIAL CONGRATULATIONS TO ANGEL-EYES - way to go! 25 lbs off is an amazing feat....you must look and feel gorgeous! Keep up the good work!

Have to go get kiddies to bed....maybe turn in early as well!

Nitey nite!

I miss reading all of your posts. I've been very busy with our homeowner's association. I've been chairing the budget review committee and just became the treasurer/secretary. I've been working through lunch on our current audit report as well. I'm gonna do my best to find a few minutes each day just to pop in.

It sounds like most of you are doing very well. I finally lost the pounds I put on after Christmas and am one pound below my lowest weight at Christmas.

Hi all... it's been a really rough week around here- not a good time to start a new diet, but I'm plugging along. The good news is that since starting on Monday, I have lost 5 whole pounds! I'm really amazed. I didn't think I'd lost anything, and wasn't going to weigh in until Monday. Maybe things are looking up!

My DH made the best burgers last night, and I made these green beans with pistachios to go with them. Just having the crunchiness of nuts was a relief for me!

I was supposed to have a root canal today- went to a special dentist and everything. I wasn't in that chair five minutes before he decides he doesn't want to work on me. We had discussed well in advance my dentist anxiety issues, and he assured me it would be fine. I made one noise during the shots in the back of my mouth (the hinge part with the muscle) and he said he cound't work like this, and I have to see someone who can sedate me completely. I'd asked for that in the first place, but he was sure he'd be able to provide everything I'd need. So now I have to see another new specialist who will be a jerk. I hate dentists. They're positively sadistic. At least that's how I feel right now- maybe after this is over I'll be able to change my mind...

So, I've discovered that my worst cravings are between 4-7 pm. I need to plan ahead for that- what do you guys do for attacks of the snack monster?

Well, DH took the wind out of my sails a bit... he's lost 10 pounds since Monday! It's not fair that men lose so easy and we have to work so hard at it. But I'm still trying...
