Default possibility of cancer

I didn't know where to go. I've heard you guys are very supportive, and some may be able to help me. I'm 25 years old and had a baby 8 months ago. 7 months ago I found a jelly bean sized lump on my right breast aBout 4 inches from my nipple. My ob said its nothing. It has not grown but.I'm having an ultrasound tomorrow. I'm incredibly nervous. If It's not cancerous, what else could it be? I'm worried they are going to want to have it biopsied. Does anyone have any advice, or ideas as to what else it could be? It's very movable and it seems soft but I can't pop it.

Also, my thyroid is very large. I have hypothyroidism but my endocrinologist felt it and said he wants to have an ultrasound for it as well. I'm scared that's cancer as well. Ah, I'm freaking out.

Dear Brittany,

I'm glad you are getting checked out. So many times, it turns out to be nothing serious. It's frightening, for sure.

Please let us all know how you are.

you need to calm down. of course, these things are freaky. i also suffer from the "i have every cancer" anxiety but then I calm my self down by thinking well, I couldn't possibly have a brain tumour, colon cancer, stomach cancer, throat cancer, and bone cancer all at the same time!! lol. that would just be incredibly unlucky. You're freaking yourself out too much, but it's good to be on top of things and get it checked out. I know my mom has had a lot of "scares" that turned out to be nothing, lots of people do. i've never had baby or breast fed but is it possible that's related to any changes in breast tissue?

It definitely could be related. Actually. when I'm thinking straight, I am certain its related. When I first had my son and I was pumping I was told to push downward on my breast as hard as I could handle so I could excrete more milk... Well, I bruised myself. Lol. After that I had little bumps. They haven't grown at all. I'm fairly certain that's what that is. but I worry, and imagine my husband and son being without me. Then with the thyroid, the doctor sais it is a substantial size, and I have known 2 people to have thyroid cancer.

((((Brittany))))
1. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. Knowing you are not alone.
2. Go in with questions. Let them know you'd like to know what to expect next in your evaluation. Fear can totally overwhelm us. Try not to let it.
3. LRH is right. I had the same thing about 8 years back. I WAS scared, but thankfully it turned out to be nothing. Just fibrous masses, which runs in my family.
4. If (God forbid) it is something to "get taken care of", get a few more opinions. Contact a local cancer support group...check out on line. American Cancer Society can probably direct you to support groups & the like.
5. BE STRONG!!! WE ARE HERE FOR YOU!!! Attitude counts a lot in facing & conquering disease.

I'll add you to my prayer list. Do let us know what you find out. Also remember medical technology has come great strides in this area. Never give up hope!

Thank you!! I'm praying they can see it is nothing and they can tell during the ultrasound. Did you have to get a biopsy afterwards?

I just responded to you on the other thread but to answer, the ultrasound can confirm if a mass is present but if so, I think they would still biopsy but it's been a long time since mine so maybe things are different now.

DW has had several of these and all have been benign. They will biopsy and based on that they will do several different things. Since DW's have always been benign, she has to have MMG's a little more frequently. Just stay on top of things.

Thank you for all of your support! The doctor said that the breast looks like possibly a cyst, or clogged milk duct. And they want me to come back in 6 months just to check on it. Hopefully I will hear soon about the thyroid. I'm SO relieved. I sat in there crying. Lol she must have thought I was a nut.

Sounds good. Yeah, cysts & clogged ducts can cause lumps. But do stay on top of things, if for nothing more then peace of mind.
Don't you just wish that stressing out counted as exercise? It seems like when things like this happens the stress is crazy wicked. It should count for more then sleepless nights & headaches!

briters glad to hear you got good news, just wanted to throw in, when my mom had breast cancer, they didn't mess around, everything happened pretty fast. Now if they call me instead of sending the results by mail I get scared.

Again, so glad you got good news and hoping you get good news on the thyroid as well.
