I do this too and I highly recommend it...you can look up 5:2 or The Fast Diet if you're interested.
On this plan, once you reach your goal weight, you maintain by fasting (500 calories) once a week instead of two.
I'm not there yet, but its so manageable right now and maintenance seems manageable, too. Unlike other "diets" where maintenance seems like it can be scary and just as difficult as losing weight.
