Default Weekend Beach Chat, Feb 8-9

Good Morning chicks!

I'm quietly getting some stuff done while DH sleeps. Work at the restaurant today-hopefully it will busy.

Linda, I'm sorry to hear your area got hit so badly yesterday. I've never experienced that kind of weather. I hop today brings better conditions for you.

Penmage, baby pictures?

What's happening in your area today? Stop and say hi

Good morning, Debbie, and thanks for starting us up. I have my coffee, the dogs have been out and fed and are now snoozing in their chairs. That's what constitutes a "dogs life" in my house - not a bad thing at all!

Lots to do around the house this morning and I have to hustle since I have a cooking course at noon and who knows what the 35 minute drive will be like. Even when it's not snowing, the wind is picking up the snow and moving it to another spot. Yesterday's short drive home from Brockville was rough.

My cooking class today will be great. It's a Seafood Feast and is a hands on class and we get to eat the meal with appropriate wines. Here's the Menu: Fennel & Arugula Orange Salad with Grilled Scallops; Seafood Linguini; Mussels Marinara; Individual Chocolate Tiramisu. I know some of it is food porn but ... I will have soup for supper if I'm at all hungry.

So I'm going to scurry around doing house chores this morning so I can enjoy my afternoon. My electricity bills are very high lately so I am doing laundry, etc. on the weekends when the low rates are on.

Sure hope folks affected by the recent storm are digging out and that the power is back on for everyone.

Enjoy the weekend - and the Olympics if you watch them.

Oh Ruth, that cooking class sounds amazing! Give us an update!

I am giggling a bit...that Debbie has lived in Alaska and Colorado, and she's telling Cottage in Philly that she's never experienced weather like that....LOL!!

I had a really long day yesterday, starting with DD sick at 4 am, to leaving for a volunteer job at 6:30, then come home to my regular job at 2 pm, and home exhausted last night. Today I am off to work, and then hopefully relax a bit, then some cleaning. DD really needs to get measured for a wedding she's in in May, and the store is in a town 45 min away. My hubbie loves day trips, maybe we'll make a shopping day out of it.

I need to get some exercise in too....

Good morning ladies! I am waiting for my coffee to finish; wish it would hurry up! We seem to have a light flurry going on and also have the wind. It was brutal when I came home from work yesterday. But we missed so much of the awful weather to the south so I am thankful.

Linda, I will echo Debbie's sentiments. After living through the major ice storm in '98, and the smaller one this year I really empathize with people going through weather disasters. I am thankful we mostly get snowstorms; as long as you don't travel needlessly they are pretty safe.

Ruth, your cooking class sound delicious!

Tammy, yesterday sounds exhausting! Hope you get to have some fun today!

I'm just doing my normal chores: laundry, cleaning, groceries, etc. Perhaps I will also get some book time in.

Coffeemaker just beeped that it is ready. Have a great day, chicks!

Good morning everyone,

Yes, I had to smile at Debbie's comment, too, about my weather. I'm happy to report that although many people are still without power, things are slowly improving. I had to drive under a tree that had fallen across the road yesterday. It gave me a moment's pause, but the car in front of me made it OK, so I figured I was good to go, too. There are still power lines laying in the roads, trees and branches down all over the place, and lots and lots of debris. As I was driving, though, I was in awe of all the beauty. The sun shining on the trees and bushes makes them look like they're made of crystal. It's just breath-taking!

Eat a truffle for me today, Ruthie, and have fun at your cooking class. I'm expecting a duplicate on my next visit!

Tammy, I hope DD is feeling better today and you all have a fun shopping trip!

I'm having a slow morning, just sitting here sipping coffee and thinking about what to do today. There's nothing pressing, for a welcome change! We've been watching the Olympics and are looking forward to watching the competitions today. The opening ceremonies were nice, but then it got boring, and I went to bed before it was over.

Good morning.

Debbie - I had the same thought as Twynn about you and winter weather!

Ruth - Yum! And a cooking class sounds fun.

Twynn - Sounds busy; hopefully today will be less so.

Beth - Reading anything good?

Linda - I didn't even bother to watch the opening ceremonies this year. Some past years we've even been invited to viewing parties.

I'm working this afternoon. This is a slow time of year for us so I'm typically only scheduled maybe twice a week. (It will pick up again in the summer when my co-workers tend to go on vacation.) My eating has been back on track for a couple of days now. I did stock up on some sale convenience items yesterday; I like to have some stuff in the freezer that I can pull out as needed. My favorite black bean burgers are not GF so I got several kinds of veggie burgers to try. But first I am actually going to attempt to make some homemade!

Have a great weekend.

Good morning y'all. My coffee is about done, and I am looking forward to it. Was it Cottage that liked Black Silk?

Today we're off to church, then I guess I need to get some cleaning and shopping done - boring day! We did get DD's jr bridesmaid dress, and a new pair of shoes for normal use. They just won't stop growing!

I just saw a recipe on allrecipes.com, and it was crock pot italian sausage. mmmmm....I think I'd eat it over rice or something, while the kids have it in a bun. A new quick and easy meal?

Yes, it was Black Silk, Tammy, and that's what I'm drinking right now.
What color is your DD's dress for the wedding? She must be very excited!

The only thing I have planned for today is watching the Olympics and maybe doing a load or two of laundry. It must be sausage day since I was thinking of making Fireside White Bean & Sausage soup for supper.

More snow is expected this afternoon.

Morning ladies. I'm drinking Columbian coffee this morning. It is pretty much our go-to. I do have a bit of a love affair with those SF syrups when I make decaf after dinner! Just a dusting to an inch of snow in tonight's forecast, but back to sub-zero temperatures for the 1st part of the week.

Today's recipe is marinated pork loin. I'll make 2: one for dinner and 1 for lunch this week. Other than that it will be wrapping up the laundry and cleaning I didn't get done yesterday. And I need to pick out a few recipes for the week. We all know planing is the secret to success!

Tammy and Cottage, sounds like your days are similar to mine. Hope you get your chores done and have some relaxation time too.

to the chicks to come!

Good morning Black Silk is a regular staple here too or Paul. Always depends on sales and coupons. I believe we are having sausage and peppers tonight oh and snow too. Must be a conspiracy lol.

Spending time with Joe until the snow starts. How exciting we are going to Walmart!!! Yes that was sarcasm. I need a few things and I really despise my local Walmart. Not really sure what if anything is on the agenda today

Linda so happy your dad has his power back.

Snow is getting boring, isn't it? Who do we talk to about getting more variety? Turquoise would be nice or magenta.

The cooking course yesterday was a nice break - only four of us in the class since it was an overflow class - Sunday was overbooked so they put on an extra. The recipes were good but I really didn't learn anything new. When you've mastered the art of cleaning squid, you really don't need to learn how to do Italian seafood recipes. I guess my Harry trained me well. Anyhow 'm still glad I went as I met an interesting woman who makes lace! Now to avoid getting too interested - I don't need another craft!

Today is a stay-at-home day with the laundry and some organizing for a busy week ahead. I have Delta Family Dinner tonight and am planning to make a rhubarb/strawberry crisp since I'm on dessert. So nice to have all the stuff for it in the freezer - it will bring back memories of last June!

Enjoy your day of "rest" - a change is as good as a rest, etc. Drink coffee!

Jekel, I call WalMart the necessary evil. Hate it, but almost have to go there. Darned it.

Mmmm, fireside bean and sausage soup sounds delish. I thought of making my bean and sausage ragout, the kids will eat it - but I might put the spinach in after their servings, they get grossed out!

Beth, I love pork loin, is it a good recipe?

Cottage - the dress is - coral something. She loved going shopping WAY. TOO. MUCH. (lol) David's bridal was jam packed. I had to order my 9 yo daughter a size 14 dress. She'll be taller than me next year!

Good morning I don't think I ever made it in here yesterday. I am very good at distracting myself over and over

Tammy - It is sausage week, we have a piece of the holiday veggie lasagna and sausage on this week's menu.
I had my first, and hopefully last, David's Bridal experience with DD last year. It's quite a place.

Cottage - I am really tired of the snow and winter this year. I've been ordering seed catalogs and reading garden plans all week

Beth - My weekends always include recipe sorting and prep for the week too, so exciting. Hope you have a little relaxation time in your plan

Jennifer - I dragged my spin bike out this week. I've been thinking of you I found a series I like on Netflix so that will keep me on for a little while.

Ruth - The cooking class sounds like fun and the crisp sounds delicious

So I made a gingerbread granola yesterday for Tim. Luckily I halved it because it looked very gingerbready so I wasn't sold on it. He says it tastes burned. It doesn't but it does taste like molasses even with just 3 T. I'm thinking about putting it on apples to make a crisp because I don't want to waste it and I don't want to eat it. Any other ideas?

Last night we had fish tacos in romaine leaves. They were so good. Today I'm trying a chickpea flour cracker recipe. I love the sesame crackers form Elana's but I'd like something a bit lower fat. Now I better get to the chores though or they will bleed into my evening.

Jennifer and Tammy, I have to swing by WM today as well. For some reason they are the only place in town that carries large cartons of Southwest Eggbeaters, Kraft LF cottage cheese (both DH's favorites) and I like their generic Greek yogurt. I also will buy 2 or 3 bananas; can't get that small amount at BJs!

Ruth, I have some rhubarb in the freezer as well and was thinking about making the dessert with jello. Great minds all think alike.

And yes, Cyndi, I am fitting in relaxation time! I didn't get out of my fleece pjs until lunch yesterday and finished almost an entire novel.
