Default How important is toner?

Is it possible to have good skin without using toner? For years I've been using Estee Lauder's Verite soothing spray toner and just ran out. I went to buy some more but I was told that it is discontinued. All the other tones I was looking at require cotton to swipe them on and I loved Verite because it was a spray and really easy to use. I ended up not buying anything else, is it really important to use toner?

I don't use toner and I don't use soaps on my face so, my answer would be no it's not necessary.
I have tried products, but I tend to break out when I use them.
Water and a facecloth and I'm good.

I don't use toner either. My face was always oily so I used toner in the past and it just made my oilies worse (Here I was overstripping my skin!). I use just Olive , Grapeseed, or Sunflower oil, warm wash cloth, and gently message it into my skin. It removes all of my makeup, moisturizes, and gets rids of my oilies!

I use toner everyday because I feel like it really helps to remove any excess dirt or makeup my face soap left behind (whoa, I sound like a commercial lol). I don't think it's NECESSARY but it's just become part of my routine. If the spray on part is what you're really looking for I've seen many types of spray on toners in Ulta and Sephora so you might be able to find a replacement.

Toner isn't necessary if you use the right cleanser. Your cleanser should be:

1. Deep cleaning (soap only cleans the surface of the skin);
2. Gentle (shouldn't strip oil);
3. Be easy to find (if you have to make a special trip to a department store or doctor's office, you'll end up using soap);
4. Inexpensive.

You only need toner to remove soap film (yuck) or restore skin to proper PH if cleanser is too harsh.

I'm an esthetician and recommend Aveeno and Neutragena Natural cleansers to my clients. Though my favorite is Cetaphil, it contains parabens, so it's no longer on the radar.

Excellent! Finding the right balance of oils, when using the oil cleansing method, is paramount. Oily/Acne skin will need castor oil.

I don't use anything except water, ever, because I can't stand the feeling of "stuff" on my skin....it's a sensory thing with me, I think

I don't use toner. I use a cleanser with my Clarisonic and then just follow with a serum and a moisturizer. Works well for me, I find then when I use toner my skin gets super oily.

I found a really nice light toner from Murad finally, thanks everyone for their suggestions.

My cleanser is phisoderm, it's creamy and really light. It's the only cleanser I've found that's gentle and doesn't make my skin dry. After I cleanse I like to restore pH balance with toner before I moisturize with Philosophy "hope in a jar" I think this routine works well for me.
