Default Alternative Folks ... Chocolate protein drink?

Has anyone found a chocolate protein drink that comes close or is as good (if not better) than the IP Chocolate drink mix (powder)?

After 17 months, $7,000 and an empty bank account I am moving to alternative products. I could bit*h about my coach and how she has raked me over the coals for money - but it's fat under the bridge by now and won't bring back the money.

I use V-Core Vantage Milk Chocolate from Complete Nutrition. I have been using it since I went on alternatives. It has more calories than IP chocolate and more protein, but I had no slow down in my losses.

I also ordered the Protidiet Chocolate Shake Mix and was quite pleased with it. I haven't ordered it since last July, as I found the V-Core and fell in love! The problem is that the Complete Nutrition stores are not everywhere and you can't order online. My SIL in Phoenix actually calls the store in ND where I purchase and they sent her free samples of all their flavors and when she orders they ship free.

I have enjoyed the ProtiDiet vanilla and chocolate shakes. Hubby likes the EAS AdvantEdge ready to drink choc fudge shakes.

Same here, Cytopsport Whey powder. It has a little more protein than IP, so I use less powder to mix it--1/4 Cup instead of the 6 TBS the included scoop delivers.

I also enjoyed Cytosport Muscle Milk chocolate or vanilla RTDs. I found them at GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, local grocery chain and CVS pharmacy. They come in either 8 oz, labeled "sugar free" or 17oz, labeled Muscle Milk Lite.

All of these are delicious!

I use premier protein rtd chocolate shakes from Costco and they also have tubs of leanfit protein powder in chocolate and vanilla but I have only tried vanilla and love it.

Thank you all so much! I have been using the Complete Nutrition Gold Standard powered. I had bought types of chocolate, 2 vanilla and a strawberry.

I love the strawberry as frozen pops. The vanilla ice cream and french vanilla are both very good. All of the chocolates are super super sweet and watery and I just can't get them down.

I will look into the ones you folks suggested. I truly appreciate the help!

I am using Genuine Health Vegan Proteins+ in double chocolate flavour. It is vegan, gluten free, and no GMO's or soy. I like very dark chocolate 70-90% so I add a tbsp of Wasco Pure Cocoa powder. The cocoa has only 15 cal, 1g of carb but 2g of fibre (not sure how that works) and 0.5g of fat. The Vegan Proteins+ has 130 cal in a scoop with 2g fat, 7g carb, and 20g protein.

It's not really wonderful tasting but the only ingredients are yellow pea, brown rice, cranberry seed, alfalfa, and hempseed proteins with stevia, and natural dutch cocoa powder and a bit of xanthan gum. No chemical weirdness and it's only $1.50 a serving.

This is good to use for protein cycling - changing your protein source up every couple of weeks so you don't develop intolerances or mild allergies by using the same product for a long while.

Hi Sara Bell

for alternative items to be IP compliant they must adhere to the following:

1) at least 12+ grams of protein
2) calories between 70 - 160
3) unrestricted is 8 or less net carbs
4) restricted is 9 - 17 grams carbs
5) 30% or less calories from fat
6) no aspartame

Hope that helps!

Hi Lisa,

Are you an IP coach? Just curious.

Also note that calories on restricted items can be higher (and are in some IP restricted products - sometimes up closer to 200). Obviously keeping them lower even for a restricted is great, but bars especially will run higher on restricteds.

ok the stats on the protein powder I have are the following:

Calories: 150
Calories from fat: 20

Total fat 2g
Total carbs: 8g
Total Fiber: 1g
Sugars: 2g
Protein: 26g

So would this be used a packet replacement for me if need be?

You have some options. While it is IP compliant-Most of the IP drinks are around 80-100 calories. Instead of getting extra calories and protein- I would measure your scoop of protein powder and only use 2/3 of it then you would be closer to IP. or you could consider 2 scoops as 3 ip drinks. I do this for my cyrosport protein powder I use 1/4 cup instead of their scoop which is 6 tablespoons.
