What to eat after gym at night?
Hi all, I had a diet question.
I count calories and work out at night usually after 7:30PM. I snack on nuts or hummus and wheat bread before I hit the gym and I usually feel hungry by 9PM when I am done and I try not to eat too much, I snack on nuts or have a glass of milk or even turkey meat on wheat bread after working out.
I don't know if I am wrong and want to switch things up a bit and was wondering... what does everyone eat after gym or before gym at night?

I try not to let gym hunger be an excuse for snacking, at least not any more. I used to eat kippers after a workout and it started to stall my losses. Can you delay your dinner until after the gym?
If not, I can't see any harm in a glass of non-fat milk. That can stay. And if it is all within your calories for the day, then it can all stay. But at 170lbs, 5'8" it caught up with me eventually. I just don't have the spare calories any more.

I work afternoons so I don't get to the gym until 11:30pm - I usually eat my dinner around 9pm to fuel my workout then just stay hydrated after and I'm in bed around 2am. So, generally I don't eat after the gym. I count calories also, but at the suggestion of my doctor I don't indulge in any type of bread, rice, potato or pasta after lunch. My dinner is always protein and veggies

IanG you're right.. snacking is no excuse. I'll try to stick with milk or fruit and see how that helps

I could never eat before going to the gym so I schedule my dinner after working out and stay within my calorie count for the day.
I think the best thing for night time munchies is always no cal low cal fresh fruits and vegetables.

If I workout that late and it's after dinner then I'll only do something like a protein shake with water.

I usually work out an hour or so after I get up, so I eat an apple and have a coffee, then off to the gym. I have yogurt when I finish, then lunch.
When I worked out in the evenings though, I'd make sure I accounted for about 200 calories at night, I'd have a bowl of healthy cereal with skim milk, that filled me up, but not too much that I couldn't get to sleep, and it gave me some carbs and protein.

If you are trying to build/maintain muscle with your work-outs, most nutritionists / trainers will suggest adding some protein and carbs right after.

I am the worst at this, as I really don't feel like eating after I work out generally. But I make an effort to eat some lean protein and a little bit of carbs.

I usually have some kind of protein a few hours before I work out, like eggs and cheese ...I workout about 11 a.m....and right after I workout, I have a protein bar that's low in sugar and higher in protein....the rest of my day includes a low-fat, sugar free mocha, various lower carb choices of food at work and something for dinner, meat and veggies usually....some days i'm higher carb and sometimes I can stick to the plan better
