Default Weekending on The Beach, SBD Chat for 8/24-25

Good Saturday morning, Beachchicks! The sun is shining in a clear blue sky on this delightfully cool morning here, and I hope it's a great morning where you are!

I have absolutely nothing on my agenda for the day, although Jake will probably want some help with the pool. Our water turned an olive green because of all the rain, and he's been struggling to get it to turn clear again for over a week. I told him he should just close it up for the winter and worry about it come Spring. That would be my solution, but he's determined to get it cleared up now. Other than that, I'll probably spend some time with Dad, and puttering in the garden. All this talk of peaches is tempting me to go out and get a bushel, but we'll see what the day brings.

Good morning Cottage and sleepy Chicks My coffee is gone already so I've moved to tea with breakfast.

Yesterday ended up being a great day. The SO picked a hike without reading thoroughly and I didn't ask any questions. Turned out to be a lot more walking and elevation but we decided to do it anyway and had a great time. Afterwards we treated ourselves to some food porn at our local farmer's market then came home for a healthy dinner and a bonfire. All in all a great last day of my official vacation (still have the weekend, sort of). Today I'm off to a mushroom walk with the local nature center. I know a few already but am curious to see what I've been missing. Then tonight we are going to a winery for wine tasting with friends. Tomorrow will be all chores, all day!

ETA - almost forgot the peaches going into the dehydrator today! Tomorrow some will get canned for winter eating.

Good morning chicks! Thanks for starting us off, Linda. Glad you have an empty day - clean slates are the best.

Cyndi - it will be interesting to see what you're missing on mushrooming. Several people here get....darned, what are they? But they sell them for astronomical prices!

Oops, I hear the dragon noise, we must have a hot air balloon outside again . It is an absolutely beautiful morning (you wouldn't catch me dead in a hot air balloon), but I must go to work soon. This week hasn't been too bad, but I'll be happy the boss is back soon.

We don't have any plans for later, but I'm hoping we do something fun after the crazy week. I did cleaning last night (I'm such a wild chick on a friday night!) so I don't have to do it today . Maybe I should plan meals better for the week, I've been SO LAZY in that.

But until then....coffee....

Good Saturday morning as summer winds down.

After the film festival last night, I came home in the dark at at 8:30! The dogs were sleeping under the kitchen table because the back room was too cold for the spoiled brats. (My pilot light is out on the stove and I did not feel like crawling on the floor to light it!)

Nothing pressing on my agenda today. John's cast of thousands BBQ is later this afternoon but I just need to buy a bottle of wine and wrap my rum cake as my contribution. It's always an interesting group of people, kids and dogs. Although we all bring things, John goes all out with fancy hors d'oeuvres which I'll try to ignore and settle for salad and a skewer of something. I definitely will NOT eat my rum cake - not a problem as it usually disappears within five minutes of being cut.

I am sooo looking forward to September when the Mill is closed and I'm back to just two staff. The cafe will close September 1 and we will have to consider where we go with it next season.

Enjoy this lovely weekend and do something nice for yourself.

at Tammy and Cyndi. Happy Weekend!

Good morning, yes I was a sleepy chick today. Ruth I didn't get home until almost 1!!! We went to Joe's parents for dinner. By the time we got back to his house I really didn't feel like driving home, but I did. Slept great with the windows open listening to the sounds of nature.

Lots to do before DS gets here at 5. I drove the truck yesterday. Has it inspected by Joe's, so she is already. Want to touch up the windows and back it into the garage. It just fits and I mean just. I cannot wait to see. his reaction!

Got a ride in yesterday. Bike still on the carrier, so no excuses. Later I will be cooking for my upcoming work week. Going to make Linda's stuffed peppers. Instead of mushrooms and spinach I am using zucchini and spaghetti squash.

Speaking of spaghetti squash. How do you store them for future use? We had a bumper crop of them in Joe's garden.

OK time to get moving. Enjoy this beautiful day!

Good Morning

We're getting ready to head to the pool then we'll drive back over later today. I'm a little envious of the talk of things slowing down now that fall is coming-we still have that danged renovation in limbo and lots to do before winter. I've been on the phone trying to get ahold of some folks already today. Oh, well.

Happy weekend everyone!

Good morning,

Nothing really on the agenda for us unless we decide to take in the International festival in St. Louis, DH is maybe wanting to hit the pool and I think I will skip if they do that.

I do need to return the microwave oven I bought when my died yesterday, just went to Wally world and picked out the best one from the stock and then researched online and I picked the worst one for reviews and it did what the reviews were talking about- not heating food well and this morning it blew a fuse when the toast popped up in the toaster (This has never happened before so it has to be the microwave). So back in the box and back it goes.

Jekel I am excited to hear about your sons reaction

Cyndi enjoy learning more about mushrooms

Cottage I would be with you out away for the year lol

Tywnn hopefully today will go well for you.

Ruth enjoy the barbeque today

Well the scale continues to move down just 4 more lbs to get back to where I was in June and then to move forward.

Have a wonderful day everyone!!!

Good afternoon.

Went for a hike with DH this morning. Late afternoon into evening we'll be hanging out at a bar/restaurant celebrating our nephew's marriage. I think I'll spend my afternoon reading.

Have a great day, all.

Evening, ladies. Checking in from work where we started the day off w/ a barricaded subject. Everything is cleared up now, though, and I'm hoping the rest of the night is less exciting (never EVER say the "q" word when working in public safety...it unleashes all kinds of ****, LOL).

Still noshing on the spaghetti squash casserole that I made 2 days ago. With just mom and I in the house now, groceries last a lot longer.

Ooh, TwynnB, I'm glad you mentioned hot air balloons...I need to see if we can squeeze a ride in while on our camping trip!

Good evening.

I'm back from moving DS1 to his apartment for the school year. Since he shared a house last year there were plenty of items we needed to shop for; everything from a microwave to a dish drainer and bath mat. But, now he should be set and the rest is all up to him: you know, doing the student part.

At least all the shopping and carrying things to the 2nd floor apartment may have offset the car-sitting I did. (that counts as exercise, right?) This past week was so chaotic that I am really looking forward to getting control of my eating this week. You do the best you can when traveling, but it's tough.

Jennifer, can't wait to hear DS's reaction.
Cyndi, we have some huge mushrooms in our yard right now. Want to identify them?
Natasha, when my sons are here I count them each as 2 people when buying groceries.
Pearl, DS1 bought a microwave at Wally World; hope he chose well!

I'm just about ready for bed. See y'all tomorrow.

Good morning. I'll join you in that smoothie, Lexxiss. Mine is peach and almond milk with a handful of baby spinach. It's not a pretty colour but tasted great.

Had a great time at the BBQ yesterday - lots of kids, dogs, decent food and interesting people. John has been throwing this event at the end of August for the past eleven years and it has never, ever rained.

Another summer day is unfolding - they are so precious this time of year. I plan to do some garden things but will also work on a quilt I hope to have ready for a silent auction in October. It's fall colours in batiks and looks lovely so far.

Not sure about dinner plans but know it'll involve the BBQ. I've not done a beer can chicken and may do that and invite Barb and her husband for dinner. If not, it'll be a skewer of chicken. Summer is short and it's winding down, alas.

Have a great Sunday, whatever you do.

How bizarre to talk about summer winding down! Ruth, hope you enjoy your chicken and friends. John's parties sound great. (did you resist your rum cake? )

Lexiss - Good morning! Hope work is going okay.

It is another beautiful morning here! I got some stuff done last night, but honestly not enough (not when a coworker is staying here this weekend....). I do hope we go do something fun and play with summer winding down and this will be our last free Sunday night out.

Natasha - I think I hear the dragon again. You are nuts for wanting to go in one!! I do remember your pic from before. Whoops! Just went and peeked, it's above the field behind our house!

I just made a pot of 5 bean baked beans (not SBD compliant but not bad, and it was DH's request) for a cook out with friends today. We're off to church first, and then hopefully some play.

Enjoy the day!

Good morning! I'm sitting here with a bowl of yogurt and granola for my breakfast and desperately trying to avoid the pan of cinnamon rolls that Dustin just took out of the oven.

It's so sad that summer is coming to an end but I do love autumn with it's warm days and crisp nights. I can only hope that we have a long Indian Summer that lasts into November.

I have a small grocery shop this morning before Jake and I go over to Dad's. I'm going to weed his flower bed while Jake mows the lawn and does the trimming, and later this afternoon Dad is taking us out to dinner.

Good morning I'm enjoying a zucchini omelet with cheese and a giant mug of coffee this morning. The mushroom walk was perfect, exactly what I was hoping for. I now have about half a dozen new mushrooms to forage for this late summer. I want to expand my confident mushrooms a few each year. The presenters were great. They even have a blog and encourage people to post pics if they aren't sure about a find. After that we went wine tasting with friends. It was the perfect evening to be on an open deck looking over the river valley. Today is get serious day - lots of house chores, food preservation, and some work to catch-up on. I need to make my list and get moving.

Debbie & Ruth - some of my peaches got a little burnt on the edges. I'm worried my dehydrator may be quitting but not sure. How do you cut your peaches for drying? I remember getting halves from Trader Joe and wonder if I cut mine too small.

Twynn - Thanks for the idea. I've got a crockpot bean recipe that would go nicely with the week

Cottage - I'm with you, I'd be happy to have this weather until, well until spring

Okay, time to get moving now that my breakfast is done.
