Question Is this caffeine withdrawal? How to beat it?

I used to drink like.... 4-7 cans of diet soda a day-I know totally unhealthy. But we ran out-probably for the best. And now I feel tired and have been getting terrible headaches. Is this caffeine withdrawal? How do I beat it? All I have had today is 1 cup of coffee and yesterday 1 can of soda that I found.

That's how I felt when I went off of caffeine! I ended up cutting back slowly. Making my coffee with half decalf and then 3/4 decaf until I didn't notice any more

My fiance gets terrible headaches when he tries to quit caffeine. Maybe best to slowly cut back?

Assuming you had a regular cup of coffee - your headache has nothing to do with caffeine.

A soda has very little caffeine compared to coffee and you don't need a lot of caffeine to stop the caffeine withdrawl headaches when you have such a small habit as yourself.

Source: I am a major caffeine addict - 500-600 mg habit per day and have quit three times in my life.

To "beat" the withdrawl symptoms you need to taper off over time. Frankly - you're at less than 200 mg per day from that soda intake and the withdrawl symptoms shouldn't be bad nor last too long if you went cold turkey.

Some people are more sensitive to caffeine, so it is quite possible they are withdrawal headaches.

It could be withdrawal but it could also be dehydration. What have you replaced the soda with?

4-7 sodas represent 100-250 mg of caffeine depending on the soda.

A cup of coffee is over 100 mg.

Unless the poster also has withdrawl headaches when she drinks only 4 sodas than this is not a caffeine withdrawl headache.

I agree that it's probably dehydration. I drink a lot of soda too, but when I tried to slow down I just ended up drinking other sugary liquids (apple juice, kool aid, etc). What I DIDN'T do was replace is with plenty of water. I'd have maybe one or two glasses and that was not nearly enough. Now that I've been trying to get off soda AND other sugar drinks, I make sure to drink lots and lots of water and it's helped with my headaches.
