Default Wow! Weekend! July 13 & 14

What more is needed? Well, some handsome guy cooking me breakfast would be great. A veggie omelet would be tasty so I may just treat myself to that in a while. In the meantime I'll satisfy myself with Paul Newman.

Did just a bit of road running yesterday and can stay home today. I do have to go to the Mill at ten to check out the bread delivery order - they shorted us last week. The cafe will be open again and I do hope we get lots of customers - yesterday was sparse.

Tried to pick black raspberries yesterday but it was in a wild area and the mosquitos were ravenous. I was well covered but still got bites on my hands which was the only available buffet for the little buggers. I did get the black currants picked since they were in an open area. Also picked a pot of lovely green beans. It's amazing what a 4' x 10' raised bed can produce.

Dogs are being silly - and noisy - so I'm off to check. No doubt a cat is sitting on a fencepost taunting them. Cats have such attitude!

Enjoy the first day of your weekend.

Morning! Plenty of sunshine and coffee here as well.

Today I will get DH to chauffeur me to the local farmer's market and festival since I can't drive yet. (Had to be my right knee I injured, didn't it?!) Looking to find some tasty produce for my salads and I always like to window shop the craft fair. (Is it possible to "window shop" at an outdoor market?)

Here's to a great day for all.

LOL...I have 5 cats, and they definately have attitude!!

Ruth, I know that one cafe closed down (last year?), did a new one open up in the same location? or reopen? Glad you didn't get carried away yesterday .

I had a lovely time with my friend yesterday, and even better was that all of our children got along great!! My DD had a really rough time at the sitter's this week, I know one reason is because she is a redhead (if you catch my drift), but another is that it is my DS and his two best friends are there as well. Thank goodness she doesn't havemany more weeks there.

I'm off to work for a while which is super booked lately, then who-knows-what DH has planned. Either taking care of housework (I did do a bunch yesterday!) or fishing or something fun?!

Good morning no sun here just overcast with rain predicted for most of the day. Enjoying the silence before DS alarm clock starts blaring. He is working until 5. Afterwards I will pick up his GF at her job and they are coming here for dinner and a movie. So today I must clean and shop. There dinner choices are dismal right now. "Would you care for some almond milk and veggies lol."

Ruth I hope the cafe picks up today

Beth I love farmer's markets!

Tammy glad you and your friend had fun.

We had a really nice time with my sisters. We went out to eat and I decided to test myself with pie. Some stomach woes, but nothing like the other day. I had discomfort after chocolate chip cookies recently too. If chocolate is the culprit I may need rehab!

Time to make my lists. Have a great day

Good morning from the commuter train into the city. I'm on my way to Monica's for the weekend. Carley has a home swimmeet this morning so I told her I'd get there in time to cheer her on.
Gah, I'm getting travel sick looking down, so I'd better end this and look out the window!-

Default re: The Cafe

The Stone Mill Cafe is just an experiment. We are trying it for a few weekends as a fund-raiser and then will evaluate whether or not to make it permanent - for the summer that is. We have a chef who is hoping to set it up as a business. However, talented and nice as she is, she hasn't a very good head for the reality of business. She seemed to think we would let her use our facility free and be able to use our student or volunteers as her staff. Sorry but not gonna happen. We are into overdraft as it is.

There is a limited menu - soup and sandwiches plus seasonal desserts. We are using our own bread and local produce as much as possible. We have a "niche" clientele, mainly tourists and city folk who have retired here plus a few locals. The food is quite good and it just may take off.

Right now we will try Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 11 to 4. It brings in a few hundred dollars per weekend, but that is with using our staff plus paying the chef gas money. We pay the food costs too of course.

So that's the Cafe. The place that closed last fall was Bob's Diner which did a full menu, including breakfast and excellent pizza. We are not going to get into bacon frying or pizza since our small kitchen is not set up for that.

When Linda comes to visit, we will be sure to lunch there and she can give her opinion. (I guarantee Vic won't be there.)

Gaaahhh, that's right! You did talk about that a bit. I think I got thrown off with just saying "cafe" vs. Mill cafe. I do miss your stories re: Bob's though!!

Cottage - good morning! I get dizzy too looking down. If I'm at the ocean with the waves lapping underneath me, I just start giggling (a lot) because I get dizzy!

Good morning So the big news around here is I finally have internet! It's almost three months since the first transfer order was put in and the guy yesterday was the standard comcast totally inept contractor so I had my doubts for awhile, but it really happened. It's so nice to be connected again and not counting every bit of data. I really just want to surf for recipes and read 3FC all day but I have the usual long weekend To Do list. Tomorrow I'm off to visit a friend 2 hours away so chores have to get done today.

We are enjoying a break in the rain and humidity. We managed a short hike yesterday and are planning another one this afternoon when the SO gets out of work (the good thing about 7-3:30 shifts. 5:30 wake-ups are the bad thing). I'm going to do some basic yard work, laundry, a little cooking, and more unpacking today.

Ruth - The Cafe sounds lovely. Yet another reason for a Delta road trip.

Beth - I love farmers markets. this is my favorite food season. There's just so much available!

Tammy - 5 cats?! I had 3 for awhile and they just never got along. Just like kids, it was always 2 against one. I know you are all out enjoying the weather today

Jennifer - no, it can't be chocolate! Chocolate would never hurt anyone. Good luck with dinner

Cottage - Enjoy the weekend

Okay, time to check the blueberry cake and make some more yummies. We need a few grab and go things for the week and I want something to bring to Pam's tomorrow.

Morning ladies! We had a bit of a panic at the penmage household this morning. I have a pet snake (nothing dangerous, don't worry ) and keep her in the basement. Well last night was feeding day, so I got her all set up on the pool table (in a feeding container) as per usual, fed her, and left her alone in her container. I went down a few minutes ago, intending to put her back in her tank, and THE FEEDING TUB WAS EMPTY!!! (Cue the "oh " reaction)

Fortunately she's a lazy little so-and-so, and hadn't gone far. Curled up in a brown and cranberry red wreath on the other end of the pool table was a bright orange and yellow snake. If I hadn't been looking for her, it would have scared the dickens out of me.

I'm positive I'm the only person that's been down in the basement this morning- otherwise Mom or Dad would have been upstairs to tell me they pooped themselves, thank you very much.

So, crisis averted!

Cyndi- yay internets! Oooh, blueberry cake? If you need a taste tester I totally volunteer! I love anything blueberry.
Jennifer- nope, can't be the chocolate. That's like being allergic to oxygen.

Good afternoon, ladies. Just popping in to say hello. Last night was exceptionally slow for a Friday now, so I'm expecting tonight and tomorrow to make up for it. We shall see.

Tomorrow my shift is doing a healthy cookout instead of our normal hamburgers and hot dogs. I'll be making the deep dish spaghetti squash casserole. Yum!

Good evening,

Busy day for me today, last home swim meet before conference and then had to take DD2 car to get flat tire fixed. We got our toes done while we waited and then we had to go shopping for clothes for a scholarship interview she has.

I did get my carpets shampooed yesterday so I just have dusting and the girls room to get straightened out before my parents arrive on Tuesday.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

Went out for breakfast with Donna yesterday - pure food porn - so did not lunch at the Cafe as planned. I did manage a few things on my list. My friend Karen dropped in and we relaxed on the front porch with the doggage late afternoon. That's what summer is supposed to be all about!

Today I'll scratch a few more things off my list and then tackle the financial report for tomorrow's Mill Board meeting. Not my favourite Sunday afternoon activity but it'll be a relief to get it done - I replaced my colour cartridge so can do parts of it in red ink. The Board members are adept at seeing money coming in but ignore what goes out!

Breakfast first though. I'm treating myself to a slice of Mill raisin bread with some raspberries to follow.

Do something nice for yourself today. You deserve it!

Good morning I guess the heat is coming back and the humidity is already 96% so it will be another one of those days. Looks like several in a row this week. Oh well, time to turn the AC back on.

I am heading off to the Boston burbs to visit a friend. Her Mom died a couple of months ago and she is trying to move on after many, many years as a caretaker. I'll also get to meet her newish granddaughter. It's not a bad day to spend 4 hours in the car with the AC blasting

Mmmmm....raisin bread sounds delish-ous!! I must say, I hope you put lots of butter on it .

Yesterday was good - work went fast since it was so busy, and then got a few niggles done, and then off to go fishing! I caught 6 fish (we won't discuss their size ), and tons of mosquitos too!

Today we're off to church, then I'm not sure what. I definately need to get some groceries and plan some meals. DH needs to get the a/c in our window, I guess there's a nasty heat wave a comin'.

I have another couple of pounds of blueberries, any recommendations?!

Good Morning

I didn't get here yesterday but managed an pretty close to OP day. Yay.

We're down to the last week before we fly out to the wedding and I've got lots of niggles. Today I've been getting some paperwork done and have already picked up in the kitchen. DH needs a new lawn mower....so will make a short trip early then a trip into Denver in late afternoon for granddaughters 1st BD party. Fun!

Have a great day everyone!
