These hints of summer are such fun, like the college kids out in shorts and t-shirts ahead of the rest of us.

I'm looking forward to summer eating habits when I'm outside and excess food is inside. There aren't many calories in watermelon.

DS was studying at his friend's house when an old teacher called for help. They interrupted their studies to go over to her house. DS came home with the haul--they harvested peaches for her. We must have 5 pounds peaches--some of which are so tiny they can't be more than pit and skin, but there are a few that should yield fruit.

And so it goes. DS graduates high school on Thursday. DD takes her last final Thursday as an undergrad. She isn't walking in graduation, though--just picking up her diploma. We'll soon be empty nesters.

The in-laws leave Friday for their summer travels. They're heading east this year instead of sticking to the west coast. I wonder how they'll like Minnesota in July? Humid and full of mosquitos is all I can imagine!

Allison, you are so right about Minnesota , I was born and raised there. You are not exaggerating about Minnesota summers, it is a very beautiful state, though.

I've blown up like a balloon after a weekend with BF's family eating his mom's cooking and a cheeseburger and pie at the AA sober club with his dad. For a place that caters to AA, ACOA, OA and SAA (sex addicts anonymous), it sure isn't OA friendly. I saw a lot of very overweight people going back for third and fourth cheeseburgers. But I can also see how if you're clean off booze or pills, food is the remaining comfort.

Is it hot there already? My dd is going there this weekend for a conference. She is doing very well so far on her weight loss journey and is hoping the few days at the conference don't derail her. She is bringing snacks but isn't real sure if she'll be fed food or have some choices.

I'm quite proud of myself from my choices yesterday. I suggested to dd that we have acai bowls for dinner and she agreed. I was out walking with a friend and she called asking if we could try this amazing sounding sandwich spot instead. I said yes because I'm trying to do stuff with her and not be too rigid. I looked up their menu and the sandwiches sound very intriguing but not at all healthy! Here's their menu if you want some food porn: http://ilikeikesplace.com/menu

I called dd back and told her that I'd be happy to go with her to get a sandwich but that I'd prefer to go pick up an acai bowl for myself after. She said fine and later changed her mind about the sandwiches and we both got bowls. A much healthier option!

And while the scale wasn't down today, it wasn't up either. I'm still three pounds over my redline and I'm glad it isn't more.

I also love days when you wear pants that are slightly big. My pants today are making me feel skinny!!

Michele, Wow !! Those are really some sandwiches and some of them are $20.00 !!!

PS , Weather forecast for Minneapolis today 1s high of 75 degrees, not that bad, give it a month , though, starts out hot in the AM and stays hot all night. I love Northern Calif weather can get hot in the summer but always cools off at night.

Hello, maintainers. I haven't been reading this thread too much because of the whirlwind of activity since my DH was offered a job in Seattle in April. We spent April downsizing, then moved into a temporary corporate apartment for a week while I looked for housing. We're in a 2 bdrm. apartment a mile (uphill) from DH's work, and it has closets that you'd see in older apartments--teeny. So we're downsizing some more. I've been walking or riding the bus everywhere because I don't want to drive. After our stuff was moved into the apartment, I immediately went to Arizona with my sister. We had an awesome time in Bisbee and Sierra Vista, the hummingbird capital of the U.S. My sister added lots of birds to her life list. I was her spotter so she could photograph, and I was proud of myself for spotting a Montezuma quail, something that isn't uncommon, but isn't spotted that often.

Allison, hopefully you'll be okay with being an empty nester. And let me tell you that even though they leave, they often come back again and again. My youngest came back to live with us in April, but, surprise, we moved out. Anyway, it's fun to watch our "birds" learning to fly on their own.

Krampus, I've heard that AA and NA meetings are full of sugar, coffee and smoke. If you've got an addictive personality, it's probably easy to switch from one addiction to another.

Michele, good for DD! I didn't look at the link, but saw Bargoo's note about $20. Wow!

We are on holiday here - I forgot it was Monday as the days have all blurred together at the dogsit. I'm going to go see fireworks alone tonite - DH installed two small AC units and is beat. I'm OK with that - we are constantly bickering about the new house and right now I'm preferring the company of the dogs. They are happy and cheerful and always glad to see me, despite my having to insist one wear a cone on his head.

Good week all!

Shiela~you're another person I know who has relocated to Seattle! Hope you like the rain. A friend from here, who I have known since DD was in kindergarten, is moving up there in less than two weeks. They found a place that must be outside the city because they have a huge amount of land. Her DH spent 5 hours mowing the lawn this weekend! They're looking for a riding mower now.

Dagmar~good luck with the dogsit.

I have watermelon in my fridge! I'm lazy and get the pre-cut packages.

I bought some dried apple slices yesterday, Seneca brand - delicious! I wish I had bought many more bags. I was at a grocery store I rarely go to so I'll have to go back and stock up, as I've never seen them at my usual store.

I didn't watch any live TV yesterday so am just learning about the horrible tornado in OK. I can't imagine how awful it must be to lose everything in a matter of minutes.

Dagmar, I'm a cat person, but dogs are such wonderfully joyful creatures! A friend brought over her 4-month old Aussie last week and it was such fun to get snorgled by her.

Dad came home Friday, and is recovering very nicely. Another big thank you to everyone for your prayers and good wishes - I do believe that they make a difference!

Now I've got another one - my mom emailed me at 1:39am that my 97-year old grandma fell and broke her hip last night. Replacement is required and could be as soon as today. Could we fire up the positive thoughts one more time? I have to admit, I'm kind of scratching my head about the wisdom of replacing parts on a 97-year old, but only because I had a conversation with this lady about the very same topic not long ago, and she found the idea ridiculous and wasteful. I hope she has changed her mind, although this particular family matriarch does so very rarely.

I'm not good with this stuff. Not at all.

Sorry about your grandma, Becky. Prayers for a full recovery! I know when my great-aunt broke her hip at about age 91 the recovery was slow but she was okay and lived another three years. Glad your dad is home and doing better!

That's a really hard one Becky - 97! But she must have a really strong will to live. And it's not like she's taking an organ away from another person who would benefit more. I guess she will make the final decision?

I asked DH to fake some enthusiasm for the new house this morning. We'll see how it goes. I am going to get very excited when I do the first house "visit" in July. I have 2 1-hour long visits to the house before the closing and I plan to make the best of my time there.

Only 12 more days @ the dog sit. I'm not ready to kill the conehead yet but we're both pretty frustrated. One really good thing about staying with dogs is that it's really hard to binge eat - they are there staring.
