What about fish? There's also shrimp and crab. Pretty much anything in the ocean, lol.

Hi! My fiance and I went on the South Beach diet for a month to kickstart ourselves back into eating healthily. It's pretty much low-carb, lots of veg, no fruit for the first two weeks and lean meats such as *chicken* and fish. It really helped, though. My cholesterol went down from high to normal levels in two weeks, in addition to going from 200 lbs. at 5'6" to 188 lbs. He went from 280 lbs. at 5'10" to 265. We did about 3 beginner kettlebell workouts a week.

Anyway, it's just a suggestion, until you get to your nutritionist. There are tons of South Beach Diet recipes, food lists and tips out there.

Rather than stress about what to eat/avoid why not calorie count? It's so much easier (for me) than following a strict diet or meal plan. Join myfitnesspal.com, you will be given a daily caloric allowance based on your height and weight and when you can track and actually see the numbers you'll start to figure out how to eat.

The thing is that you are an individual and any meal plan is going to be highly individualized based on your taste preferences, budget, and goals. Are you interested in calorie counting? Weight Watchers? South Beach? Paleo/Primal? Low Carb?

Check out the "Diet Central" boards around here: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/#diet-central

I myself am a calorie counter, and as you can see by my ticker it has been quite effective in helping me take off the pounds. No plan is perfect, and I've been having my own struggles with mine lately.

Most people here are pretty eager to help and are willing to share what's worked for them. Just remember, everyone is different! Feel free to pm me if you'd like.

I am a calorie counter, too. I find it the most effective way for me and I have tried many other diet plans. My food is not expensive, it is just plain ordinary food that you can buy at any grocery store or farmer's Market.

I like to try to do a veggie/carb/protein at every meal. i really like to mix my food together, so i like to make bowls. so i might do 1 cup brown rice, 1 cup broccoli, and 1 serving of tofu with salsa and/or avocado. or 1 serving of oats, half a cup of milk, 1 tbsp peanut butter, and half a banana. or eggs, sweet potatoes, and salsa. gives you some variety while still keeping the nutrients in a range. i'd suggest just figuring out what complex carbs you like (oats, sweet potatoes, brown rice quinoa), what veggies you like/will eat, and what proteins, and start from there.

Eggs. Dirt cheap, and high-protein. Make a frittata with whatever veggies are on sale. (Sautee the veggies first.)

I was surprised you didn't know about carbs given your user name!

But if you really don't know even the most basic information, you need to start reading and educate yourself. There are a many resources on this website, and the internet, but you might want to head to a local library and check out some basic books on nutrition to get a good foundation. The good news is that you can get started on a diet without much cost or fancy meals. Some of the ideas above (e.g., trying south beach diet) are good. You may find the south beach diet book in the library too!

I'm going to go ahead and close the thread.
