Has potassium supplement type/dosage changed??? - 3 Fat Chicks on a Diet Weight Loss Community

First off I want to say hello and I am new to the forum. I joined few days ago after finding this forum and seeing how wonderful it is. I want to thank every one for sharing and the information here. I am so proud of every one on here. I can not afford the coach, clinic deal and ideal protein supplements, so I have decided to do the alternative. In my web search about the supplements I read somewhere that the Potassium Bicarbonate 800mg/Calcium 200mg (I think that is the correct dosage) supplements that you can only get from a coach...I read that it has been changed and now its Potassium citrate 99mg ???? Im just curious if anyone has heard of this and why they changed it if it is true.

They did change it. I think it was to eliminate the calcium due to all the studies on excess calcium supplements being bad for your heart.

I follow the IP plan on alternatives, but still use the actual IP supplements. You can order them on plainprotein.com. Even if you don't want to use their supplements, you can look at the labels of the products to find an alternative supplement.

Then again to go down from 800mg of potassium down to 99mg is a big decrease. Since they have changed it, are they wanting people to add other food into make up for the potassium?

Scorbett is the authority on this and has posted about this. I think it was because the different forms get absorbed differently. The 99mg of potassium citrate is basically equivalent to 800 mg potassium bicarbonate.

I looked it up when they first came out.
The new form of Potassium is only allowed to be max 99 mg dosage in the US.
It is absorbed quite differently than the previous form of Potassium so it really isn't a decrease. They are 2 different formulations.

Wow, 800 vs 99 is a HUGE difference! When I went to alternatives I started taking the 99 mg 4x per day. That freaks me out a bit.

I can't remember what the formulation of the other potassium was.
Potassium Citrate max dosage allowable in the US is 99 mg
When I looked up the differences (when I still had the other bottle) they were comparable
