Default calves hurt (from walking) but not when walking, only when running

Hi everyone,

I am wondering if anyone may be able to help me. The last few weeks I have been walking between 3 and 5 miles a day. Prior to this, for a few weeks I walked maybe twice or three times a week. This last week, sometimes when I try and run on the treadmill, my calves feel tight and I stop because I'm worried about causing more damage. My calves do not feel anything other than ordinary when I'm walking, or even after walking, it is just when I try and run/jog. They do hurt a little when I walk up and down stairs. I stretch before and after walking and have recently been foam rolling (advice from a friend).

Should I stop walking until my calves stop feeling tight? I'd really appreciate any advice

Thanks

I think your post is ok here...

The tightness you speak is of is not pain, right? If it was pain I would stretch and give them a rest.... But if it's nothing more than a tightness then carry on what you're doing eventually it will go away...
