Smile Going to a baby shower tomorrow. First "event" since starting over.

I'm going to a friend's baby shower tomorrow. During past weight loss attempts I would have barely eaten anything beforehand and then eaten 10 of everything at the shower. The shower is at 1pm tomorrow, so I'm going to eat breakfast and lunch normally and then enjoy myself within reason.

I'm not even going to pretend that I would be successful just taking a tiny nibble of everything. The bride is fit and health conscious, so I imagine there will be a variety of fruits and veggies in addition to treats. If I don't go in starving I think I can do a smarter job of indulging without going overboard.

This is how I want to be able to live. To not have to worry that one special event is going to totally derail me. No one ever got fat from eating food at one baby shower. It's the past attitude of "Oh well, I'm sure I already went over for my calories today so I might as well just order pizza for dinner and eat 4 slices" that has taken me down this path.

Good luck tomorrow!!

The best thing I have been taught is to show up to things like this FULL from my own healthy food. Then just pick at the fruits and veggies (and anything else that you just HAVE to taste, have 1 bite and toss the rest). It's worked for me so far!

I have to keep reminding myself these events aren't about the food! I used to get so excited wondering what was planned to eat, whether it was a shower, a superbowl party, backyard bbq. My whole life was food, not anymore!!

If eating moderately there works for you, enjoy

I choose to abstain and just enjoy the social event with no food these days, unless there is an on-plan item there fore me. It helps me break the eat/chat/overindulge habit that is so prevalent in our culture! Not everyone approaches matters in the same way, so stick with what works for you.

I'm happy to report that the shower was fun, the mom-to-be looked amazing and had a wonderful time, and I enjoyed myself without going overboard. It was catered by a local restaurant and I filled half my plate with fruit & veggies. I also ate a turkey sandwich (it was on a sandwich tray and maybe 1/6 of the size of what is normally served in the restaurant), a few of the restaurant's homemade chips, a cube of cheese, and a slice of tomato and mozzarella. I also had a piece of the red velvet cake because, let's face it, I can't say no to cream cheese frosting.

So, I'm sure I went over my calories for the day but I did not stuff myself and didn't leave feeling disappointed in how much I ate. I will probably have a slight gain when I weigh myself tomorrow, but I don't feel like I have done major damage to my weight loss journey.
