Default Diabetic low blood sugar

Been doing this for two weeks now and have lost a nice chunk of weight but have been having blood sugar problems that have made me feel ill. For example i woke up last night in a sweat and dizzy checked blood and it was 55. But in order to stay on plan I can not have sugar etc. What have you all done to keep sugars level. I actually stopped taking my metformin as it made my sugar even lower. I had a peanut butter sandwhich last night which brought my blood to an 81 level this morning, still on the low side of ok. Had my chocolate drink this morning but dreading the low blood sugar to come before I can eat lunch at noon as I ate this at 5.

If you are diabetic you should be doing the alternate phase 1 for diabetics. Are you doing this through and IP center or are you on your own?

Through an Ip center. Theytold me to eat 10 chocolate soy puffs. that is fine when my blood is a tad low but not at 70 or below which it has been for the last week.

I am a type 2 diabetic also. You need to work with your doctor or endocrinologist to adjust your medication or your sugars will be too low. I never did the diabetic protocol but my doctor immediately cut my Lantus dose by 40% and my Apidra by even more prior to starting this. You have to really watch (do a lot of testing) and make drastic cuts to the insulin. I was taking 160 units of Lantus and 35 units of Apidra daily and after 20 days on IP I was not taking ANY INSULIN AT ALL. I am completely off all diabetic medications now and my blood pressure meds have been cut by 75%. You really need to stay in the loop with a medical professional who can help you make responsible adjustments to your medication. The drops in blood sugar for Type 2s on this diet are drastic, as you have seen. Good luck and let us know how you make out!

Thanks Alison. I have quit takling my metformin as it lowered my sugar even more. These levels are with out medication. My problem is this whole week i am going hyp and cant have things to up my sugar levels without worrying about ruining the diet. Just frustrated and wondering if i should go another route. i am tired of feeling this way. i acutally felt better before I started this diet blood sugar wise.

Ask your coach about the alternate phase 1. It is the same protocol with the addition of 1 serving each of fruit, dairy and bread.

If you are not taking any medication and your sugar levels are that low, I think you need to see the doctor because that is really hypoglycemic. Also, not sure of your size, but if your lean body mass is over 200, you need to have an extra packet every day.

I'm a pretty big boy at 346 this morning and they cut me down to 3 packets a day this week. I asked about fruit and they had told me no. My blood sugars were realtivly good when on the four packs a day but doing 3 has plumted my blood sugars. No need to go to Doctor and pay $100 for him to tell me to eat some sugar or honey which i can not have on this diet.

You should check out the men on IP thread. I think most men do 4 packets a day. If you felt good on the 4 packets, maybe that is what you should be doing now.

Thanks ragdoll. I told them i was not sure about the 3 packs a day but was pretty much told thats what i was gonna do. They do let me have the Soy puffs as well as my three packs, but like I said the 10 at a time dont do much for blood levels at 70 or lower.
