I have a nice sized ham bone left over from Christmas Brunch. It has some meat on it, but not much. I know people usually use them to flavor soups or something but I've never done it and the recipes I'm finding are calling for potatoes. Any ideas?
A ham bone usually goes good in a bean soup or to flavor split pea soup. There are some great soup ideas in our recipe section, and especially check out the Fireside Sausage and White Bean Soup, it's one of my favorites.
Shhhhh! I really want some pea soup. Found myself looking at a bone-in ham yesterday to buy just for the bone! I may see if I can find a smoked ham hock although it's not the same. A real ham has eternal life around here as I'm really not fond of it.
