I agree that would be an annoying feature, if you didn't really take the steps.
The FitBit is really just a pedometer with software, it isn't anything like the BodyBugg that tracks actual physical responses during exercise, so it isn't as accurate. I have used and compared most of the products, and at the end of the day I really just prefer my Omron HJ-112 pedometer. It has been rated the most efficient, and I've personally had great luck with it. The software programs are kind of nifty at first, but in the real world I didn't need them.
Omron also makes a pedometer with software that is cheaper and probably more accurate than the FitBit. I have one, but don't use the software because it isn't Mac compatible. The pedometer itself is great.
