Default You know you need to lose weight when...

....you lie about your weight, and your fake weight is still in the obese category! (if I said anything less it wouldn't be "believable")

The story is that my husband's good friend is an insurance salesman. He talked my husband into buying a new policy for me in case of my untimely exit. In order to qualify for the policy he had to come over to the house and ask me a few health related questions - including my weight! Needless to say, I was highly embarrassed, as I was just under 200lbs at the time. I knew that his company would send out a nurse to do a basic exam (including weight) and ask health questions, but I didn't know that he would be privy to the information, much less be the one asking the questions! Flustered, I blurted out that I was at 180lbs, but on a diet and continuing to lose weight. Unfortunately, even my fake weight put me in the obese category! He took down all the information and said that I needed to call to make an appointment with the nurse who would come to do blood work, blood pressure, urine test, and weight on a scale. I never made the appointment ! I was too embarrassed for him to see my true weight and that I'd lied. When he called to follow up, I just said that I didn't think I would qualify for a good rate with my current health conditions. Actually, he recently called again to see if I was interested in applying now (he saw me at a party) and I said no. I'm still embarrassed to tell someone I know what my weight is - especially a man!

Any of you have any moments like this?

That is embarrassing. (It also seems kind of creepy and invasive.) NY doesn't have weight on their drivers' licenses (they're probably smart enough to know everyone lies anyway!), but I've lied on plenty of others!
A moment for me would be when kind people offered me their seat on the subway this past winter. #NotPregnant

HungryHungryHippo - Yeah, it was creepy and invasive! Ahhh...I've been asked "when the baby was due" more times than I care to remember! Fun times. Oh, and my driver's license weight is my goal weight - so I'm still lying about it!

I worked mynbooty off to finally have my drivers license say my true weight, and they don't do it anymore! I was genuinely upset, as silly as that sounds. I stopped upping my weight on my ID after 155 pounds, so it was huge when I passed that benchmark and finally hit goal. I got all gussied up, drove to the DMV twice (forgot my birth cert!) and then BAM....no weight. I don't know why, but it still bugs me.

ChickieChicks - That sucks! I know that I am looking forward to the milestone of my actual weight being the same as my driver's license weight.

Quite a few years ago, my firm offered some sort of long term disability policy. I low-balled my weight (by 30 pounds, it turned out) but still had to go through the embarrassment of having to get checked out by a nurse. I failed to qualify because (this was the official reason on the form) I had an "abnormal body type." Ouch.

Guacamole, at your current weight, you'd have no trouble getting coverage. As for being embarrassed, well, I hear ya. Most women whose weight is public knowledge have stats like 5'10" and 120, so it makes it hard for those of us in the normal range!

the weight on my driver's license was nearly 100lbs lower than my starting weight. Now that I've lost some weight its only about 60lbs off, lol. But you can bet when I get smaller than that number I'll gladly pay the $25 to get an updated one!

I don't know how long I just said that I was 180...for most of it I was about 180 (on the high end of overweight for my height, but not obese), but when I was up closer to 200 for a few months, that was still my go-to number. People claim that I don't look my weight (I actually have a ton of muscle under the layers of pudge), but I don't believe them.

It's so weird to be in the 160s now...haven't seen this since about freshman year of high school (and I was 3-4'' shorter then). My Connecticut license is expired now since I'm out of the country, but it didn't have my weight on it (also, I've apparently grown an inch since I was 17 )

I'm terrified of having to go to a doctor here...Japanese women my height are apparently about 50-60kg...I would be so embarrassed to have to step on a scale and see the doctor's face when they saw a 73 pop up >.<

Hotaruchan, they still use 25 as the cutoff for "overweight" BMI so don't worry! The last time I got a health check over there I think my BMI was 24. something and I got an "A" on that part of the exam (yeah, letter grades).

I knew I needed to lose weight when I decided at 198 pounds never to check to see if it went higher.

But anyway I can't remember if we have weight on our licenses in Texas; however, I sure as heck am going to take a new picture when I'm at goal.

LOL! You've all made my day. I thought I was the only one who lied on drivers liscence. Yep, I need to make that one of my mini goal.Actually weighing what my liscence says. I've been gray so long now I just realized no one ask if I'm pregnant any more. One good thing about being old anyhow.

Guacamole - I work for a life insurance company and used to work in underwriting. Depending how much insurance you're applying for, weight may or may not make a big difference. You can always apply for it and see what kind of rate you get. If the rate is too high - based solely on weight, it would probably be worthwhile to wait until you're at a normal weight then reapply. You can also purchase the policy now and convert/reapply again once you're at a rate you're happy at if you're uncomfortable not having insurance.

Everyone else - Yep, getting life insurance can be invasive, and if something is in your health history, chances are they will find it, especially if you're looking for a decent amt (over 100k) If you're young, I would fully suggest getting it now (after we all lose weight heh) before any other health issues come up and you have to pay extra high prices for it.

You know you need to lose weight when you can no longer shave your legs because you can't bend and reach.

Oh, and when other routine hygiene becomes problematic. Toilet paper on a stick, anyone?

I never actually used TP on a stick but it was getting to a point I was going to have to do something like that!

Don't lie on an insurance application. If you want to buy life insurance there are a lot of options.

My day job is running an insurance agency and with one of the companies we represent a 5'5" woman can be 175lbs and still super preferred. Preferred rates allow up to 185 and you can get standard rates at 225. After that it starts getting more expensive but it's not until one weighs over 292 that they would be ineligible.

Furthermore many companies (including ours) allow you to requalify at a lower rate if your health improves or weight drops. This is called reconsideration.

My point is if you think life insurance is important (and I do) there is more than one option available and unless you're super obese weight alone shouldn't be a problem.

Remember: don't lie on your application.
