Morning all. Hump day, thank goodness.

Happy - Thanks for starting the new thread!!

Annie - Enjoy your anniversary dinner.

Michelle - Maybe I should go to the WI state fair - definitely closer to us than the IL fair down in Springfield! What a situation you're in with the computer - good thing you can support yourself.

Mel - Sorry you've got all the alarm trouble. I hope the woman in the office doesn't leave you all by your lonesome. Re makeup application on the train - I rarely wear mascara, so I don't face that challenge. I do, however, wear eyeliner and that's definitely easier to apply when the train's sitting in a station, LOL.

Shad - Love that letter! Isn't it just idiocy that things like that happen?? And I hate that they include all sorts of advertising along with their bills. And I just know it doesn't result in a lower bill for me... Hope the next item on your list was easier.

Ceejay - Hope you're on the mend and feeling better. Are you back at work? When does your weekend start? If I can't be enjoying a weekend, I want someone else to!!

Hellos to Happy, Ellen and Patty.
++++++
Nothing much to report. Bf mowed the lawn yesterday and timed it such that he asked me to take doggy for his walk. After that I did a load of laundry and that was about it.

I know I'm going to sound like a horrible person, but I think I'm washing my hands of any plans for bf's 50th bday. A few of his friends tried to make plans to go to a spot in the lakes area for one of their "party all night and crash" parties, of which I'm not very fond. Not that bf told me about it - I didn't even learn about it until one of his friends mentioned it when we saw them on Sunday. Of course that makes me want to reject my participation simply on principle. Anyway, all the lodging places are already fully booked for this weekend and people have other plans for the next couple weekends.

Furthermore, bf prefers not to do anything if it can't be done until a few weeks later - he hates the idea of not celebrating it close to his actual bday. Really???!! I suppose I should have known better because he has a pet peeve that his family's Christmas celebration is never on Christmas or Christmas Eve because his brothers always spend those days with the spouses' families. So anyway, I guess this means that my idea of throwing a party in September is kaput. I'm so annoyed. At him and at myself (wish I'd just set a party up for this weekend, and taken a chance on the whatever weather Mother Nature wanted to throw at us). There's more to this than what I've said, but I won't get into it because it'll just make both of us look even worse, LOL.

Okay better stop and get on with the day. Oh, might take a spin class tonight.

Ok, I'm back. Ceejay - while you are dealing with 102 degree temps, here we are seeing cool mornings with heavy dew on the grass and as soon as the sun sets, the heat of the day dissapates quickly so while everything is still green as can be, there are subtle hints that autumn is on it's way.

I have not heard anything yet about the job. I kind of hope they don't drag this out and if I don't get it, at least let me know via email or something so there is closure - I know there is alot going on in the office at the moment. Meanwhile I am trying to make the most of each day in case I do have to go back to work - will be a long time before I get any time off if that is the case.

I just checked my slug traps - small tart tins filled with Miller Light Beer - and there are 14 slugs in there. So I guess 1) slugs were the problem eating my tomatoes and 2) I guess the beer traps work because after all, these are Wisconsin slugs and Wisconsonites love their beer from everything I've heard I have had some great cucumbers and grape tomatoes but have lost every big tomato so far (10) to pests chewing holes in them. I had been doing some checking online and were it not by chance that I happened to see 2 slugs preparing to feast on my crop, I probably would not have figured out the problem. And I would have been pretty peeved since I am looking forward to them. Although I am a bit (no actually I am A LOT) envious of my neighbors huge lush garden at the end of the street, I have to say that we are getting just enough out of our garden to sustain us. A cucumber every other day and enough grape tomatoes for a meal for me each day - DH doesn't like the little guys. I need to pick and make a rocket (arugula) salad today.

Got my cast iron grill pan (double burner size) yesterday and I am looking forward to some grilled chicken and veggies today for dinner. Got a zuchinni as big as my arm at the farmstand the other day - will make nice, grilled rounds. I also got some multigrain bread at the farmers market from a Mennonite family that grinds their own wheat and I have to say I am IN LOVE. This was the best tasting, fresh homemade bread I've had in ages. And it freezes well so I'll be heading over to their farmstand on Friday to pick up another loaf and some wheat bread as well. Got up early yesterday and we headed out to the grocery store to stock up on a few things.

I felt like going to the casino yesterday so invited DH for lunch and a little bit of play. He wasn't that crazy about going but agreed to it. We had a nice lunch - our big meal of the day. He said we should eat at the buffet once a day and make that our main meal - cheaper than buying groceries and that is true - $10 for beverages, nice salad bar, vegetables - awesome carrots, mashed potatoes, corn, a wild rice casserole and several meats - delicious baked chicken, baked cod fish, liver and onions , Swiss steak, stuffed mannicoti with red sauce and some garlic cheese bisquits that DH said were really good. Also they had 2 homemade soups. And of course there is dessert - cookies, pies, cakes and soft serve ice cream. That's alot of food for 10 dollars - about what you'd pay for a burger, fries and drink at any of the other places. Afterwards I floated DH a loan since he didn't have any money to play with, we wished each other luck and went on our way. He found me about 45 minutes later and returned my money. He won $400 Not bad for an hour's work. He was pretty happy. We left shortly afterwards and even I was up $50 so we had a nice outing.

Did all my personals toggling between last month's thread and this one and then closed the wrong window! I had saved part of my post so didn't have to retype the entire thing.

Shad - hope you had a good steak dinner with the miners. Nothing better for a man than a big hunk of hot meat on a plate.

Mel - maybe the alarms won't be that bad and you won't have to spend ALL day trailing the repair folks around How's your tummy holding up?

Ceejay - yikes sounds like your cholesterol is really out of whack. Are you on meds now? Hope you feel better.

Michelle - well it sounds like you have the standard IT dept. Sometimes people have to deviate from "the build" and as long as it's for business, why not support it? Good luck with that. The State Fair is too far for us to travel - had to smile - Styx is playing there. Haven't seen them since they were a local band starting out in the 70's and played the dance club where DH and I met. How was the REO Speedwagon concert?

Annie - glad Lil Monkey broke up a crappy day at work and gave you a smile. :congrats: to you and C on your anniversary. How many months is it now? Have a nice dinner.

Laura - sorry things did not work out for BF. I threw a surprise 40th party for DH whose BD is early February. Had it at a great Greek restaurant that is now where Pappadeux's stands. We lived up north and except for one friend, all my family and our friends lived in the city or the south suburbs. I had to guarantee a certain amount of plates so I was also nervous about a big snow storm ruining our plans. It is what it is I said my novenas (prayers) and while we got a bit of snow it didn't deter anyone from coming and turned out to be a very nice party. So sometimes you have to go with your gut. I can see the appeal of the guys for renting a cabin for a drunken wonten lost weekend and totally understand how you are a 1-80 on "oh hhellllll no baby". Hope you can work something out.

Hi Ellen and Patty

Time to get some breakfast in me and get a few things done.

Happy...thanks for starting the new thread. It is one year that C and I have been together. 4 years since I first met him at CVS. I am having a surprise 50th party for Curtis. He turns 50 Sept 30th and that is the date of the party also. I would love to go to the casino, I have never really been. SOunds like DH got some spending money out of the deal.

LAURA...I never understood why men conveniently leave out telling you about things in the first place, cause we always find out one way or another. He knew you would be uncomfortable about it, that's why he withheld information.

Forgot to tell you...harvested two yellow tomatos, 3 red tomatos, 1 yellow zucchini, 1 green zucchini and 4 cucumbers last night out of the garden. Yeah!!

Have a good one all...........

Wow Annie - I was kind of thinking one year for you guys (hence the anniversary) but it just didn't seem like a year had passed so quickly. on finding the guy you deserve to love as much as you do. ♥

18 slugs and 2 moths - one of which I may have rescued from a drunken stupor in the garden traps. No wonder my poor tomatoes did not have a chance.

I wish it would cool down enough to make my lemon bread with the fresh blueberries. Guess I have to get up at 6am when it is cool outside because once the sun rises up, it gets hot. Especially in this house with all the lovely light and big windows I can't shutter

Polish sausage and potatoes with garden onions (the farmer's market's garden) and bell peppers and crispy cool tomato and cucumber salad. I have enough to share - it's the GOOD Polish sausage from Chicago too

HAPPY....your dinner sounds fabulous, however I cannot eat sausage of any kind, it doesn't meld with my tummy to well....the lemon bread sounds delish, only if I liked lemon or blueberries...wow, I am just a bummer tonight....It all sounds so good!

We went to Applebees for dinner. I had chicken oriental salad which I love but ate too much. We had to pull over in a parking lot so I could puke...just the side effects of bariatric surgery when you eat to dang much. I felt badly about it and apologized to C many times..he was such a doll...baby it is ok. When we got home the guy across the pond text him as wanted to know if he want to go fishing on the pond between the neighborhood. I said heck YEAH go, I then laid down on the couch for about 30 minutes in peace. Got up and did a load of laundry.

Guess I had better get in there and try to get some shut eye. Have to drop my car off at repair shop and take C to work...that all starts at 4:30 AM...Yikes.

Love and hugs.

Morning all.

Happy - What a nice trip to the casino - a tasty, inexpensive meal and winnings!! Yum, Polish sausage. We get ours from Kalinowski's on Rand right in MP. Oh, and Pappadeux's is no longer there (Golf/Algonquin) - now it's a Cooper's Hawk, which is a restaurant/wine bar. Hope your slug solution is working and you still have time in the growing season for a nice harvest of tomatoes.

Annie - Feel better soon - maybe that salad is still causing problems? Or was it just too early of a start this morning?? Congrats on your 1 year anniversary with C.

Shad - Hope you get a chance to slow down and relax a bit.

Mel - You sound busy as heck. Hope you've been getting sufficient down time.

Hellos to the rest of the Worldlies.
----

Went to a spin class last night. Only two students, which was fine by me. I'm actually surprised it wasn't cancelled because my past experience is that if there aren't at least three students they can do that. Maybe that's only for the other group passport classes and not spinning. I actually think the spinning program is not as successfull as they hoped it would be since it started about 3 years ago. (They converted on of the racquetball courts into the spin studio.)This might be why they're offering combo passes and now they've added a few classes to the group exercise passport program - they want people to try out a class and maybe get some interest going.

Anyway, it went fine. I could have worked harder, but I was remembering that one class I took a while back w/ bf at Bally's when we went all out, and I was sore for a week! I sure didn't want a repeat of that. To make the pedaling harder and more challenging, there's a resistance knob, and the instructor tells you to work at a certain level of effort from 1-10, and you adjust the resistance based on that. And of course that's all subjective, and no one knows how much resistance you're really using, so there's no pressure except from yourself. So far, I'm not sore, but we'll see how I feel this afternoon/tonight. I'm not sure I'll like it enough to continue with it beyond the 5 classes on my pass...but the instructor (who was actually a sub) was pretty good. Couldn't hear everything she said because the music was rather loud. We'll see what the other instructors are like when I work through the remaining 4 classes.

If I'm to keep to my 2 exercise classes per week I really should do a class tonight, as I'm busy on Saturday morning and I know I won't want to do a class on Sunday morning. Oh, and it turns out bf's drink then crash party has been worked out for this weekend. I'm not sure if I'll join the so-called fun, but if i do, I won't even be around on Sunday morning.

For the e-mails I'm being copies on, the boss is on the warpath with one of our service providers, and it happens to affect me because they said something they need from me is a higher priority than the boss thinks it is. On the one hand, it's good because I'm at a standstill right now because I'm waiting on some items from other people. On the other hand, I don't want to be caught in the middle of this battle. Oh the fun!

Better get back to work. Have a great day everyone!

I've had a restful day and semi productive day.
Called Jenny Craig last night to check about starting their program. That's out of the question as it's to expensive. Even with my insurance covering part of the cost.
Had a nagging headache most of the morning but I took a nap this afternoon and all is well.

Happy
I like your idea of the beer to catch your little varmints that are eating you tomatoes. Dinner sounds good. May make that tomorrow night.

Annie
Ugh on the Applebee's meal that made you sick. Too much of a good thing!

Mel
Alway's something going on it seems to take care of the apartments.

Shad
If you get to bored come to my house, I'll share some work.

Ellen, Patty Have a good day.

Morning all. TGIF!! Awfully quiet here. Maybe everyone's off enjoying their Friday (or Saturday for Shad).

Hi Ceejay - Too bad the Jenny Craig plan is too expensive to give a try. Guess you'll have to come up with the Ceejay plan.

Nothing much to report in my corner of the world. I ate too much yesterday, and it was topped off by a visit to our favorite gyros place in the city after work. Bf picked up his new glasses from his old eye doc (I guess you could say he's two-timing because he used our new doc for the exam, but found the pricing for the glasses way too high so he got them through our old doc.), then met me at the train station a few blocks away and off we went to the restaurant. We skipped the flaming cheese because it would have been too much food, but it was still too much food anyway!! Next time we'll each have a cup of egg lemon soup, but split a gyros sandwich (they're huge, we'd forgotten that) and then we can order the flaming cheese too. As it was, neither of us finished our gyros, so we took home the leftovers.

Back at home, we took doggy for a walk, and then watched some Olympics. Been doing that all week, but mostly I've just seen swimming and women's gymnastics. Ready to see some other events!

Nothing planned for tonight except we'll get a Costco rotisserie chicken for dinner. Tomorrow morning is breakfast with a former co-worker. The weather is supposed to be nice Sunday (I thought tomorrow too, but no, forecast says 96 degrees!), so we'll go for a bike ride. That's about it for me, so back to work it is.
